Hi everyone! Once again, I come with another story! This particular entry has been sitting in my notes since 2021? I think? I finally typed it down back in February but I never got around to sharing it since I felt it was slightly incomplete. Well, enough of that, read and enjoy!
Title: Gummi Ship School House
Type: Story - One Shot For Now (Update: Now Two Shot)
Summary: From the moment Sora entered the Gummi Ship, he knew that there was so much to learn about the worlds. But in order to prepare the great unknown, Professors Donald and Goofy were ready to teach him what to do.
Idea: Sora probably has done more than just had a long vacation away from his actual school work. So I thought Donald and Goofy taught him things in-between hopping from world to world and fighting heartless ship raids.
Sub-Ideas: Ideas For What Sora Learns
- Learning there's more than just the Wet Season and Dry Season (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winer - with a long conversation about what snow is, since it's only told about in stories on the islands.)
- Learning/Relearning Manners after the incident with Queen Minnie
- Magic Lessons, Fighting Techniques, and Defense.
- World Order vs. World Borders
- Actual School Work

The Gummi Ship, when Sora first saw this space craft he was in awe. A vessel that could sail the stars and visit new worlds was all Riku, Kairi and he had ever dreamed of doing and more. Visiting new worlds, seeing what was beyond the island, and going on a daring adventure to face the troubles head on, what a dream. That was Sora's first impression of the ship. When he first boarded, he was so impressed by what it had to offer. A cool interior with lots of fun buttons and a steering wheel, a view of space where he could see lots of space rocks, so many stars shining surrounded the ship, and they got to engage in several space battles while trying to reach a new world. That was then. Now, as they made their way to worlds that were farther out of reach, the rides were sometimes getting more quiet than before. Sora's restlessness to participate in another battle was reaching new levels of antsy. In other words, he was bored when there wasn't a heartless ship hoard to battle. Donald and Goofy had noticed this boredom, remembering their own children and the way they got when they wanted something to do on a long ride, but there wasn't much except looking at the scenery or just making up games till they got tired. They wanted to provide some sort of activity that would keep him distracted until they had to land. It was then Goofy and Donald realized something. Sora was only fourteen-years-old. Even though they were off saving worlds while looking for the King, as well as his friends Riku and Kairi, they realized he had quite a lot to learn. Sure, Donald was teaching him how to use his magic and Goofy was teaching him how to fight, but they wondered where he was at with his other skills. Was he doing well with school work like math and science? Did he know other useful skills like what Donald's nephews learned from the Junior Woodchucks? What exactly did Sora know and not know?
So that was what lead Sora here, in the kitchen on the Gummi Ship that was now transformed into a mini classroom. Donald and Goofy didn't want to go too hard on him, so they decided to gauge what kind of knowledge he had in general. They quickly figured out it was just about average amount. Sora knew how to read and write, math was a bit of a struggle but he had a pretty decent understanding of science. Somehow that conversation about science led to knowing about the weather and Sora had done a pretty good job of telling Donald and Goofy about weather patterns to look for in the clouds. They were impressed and Sora explained that his and Riku's dad are fishermen so whenever they both got to help, they would teach them what kind of patterns and shapes to look out for in the clouds, the winds, and the waves. Knowing all this, Goofy had to wonder about something.
"Gwarsh Sora, ya sure do know about your island's weather patterns! But I didn't hear ya talk about when it snows." Donald summoned his staff and whacked Goofy a bit.
"Goofy, Sora's from a tropical island. I don't think they have snow unless they have a super tall mountain over there."
"You're right Donald, we don't have a super tall mountain, it's just a volcano on the island. Oh and I have heard about snow. Riku told me this story before that Santa brings the snow when he comes on Christmas, but it disappears with him. So unless you could stay up and see him drop off your present, you can see the snow at your house!"
"Really?" Both Donald and Goofy wondered if that was true for the islands.
"Well… that's what Riku said before he told me that Santa wasn't real." The two looked at him sympathetically, giving him a pat on the back. Goofy remembered when his son Maxie tried to prove Santa was real and he played the part for the family only for his son to discover him and that broke the illusion. He remembered later that night, both of them ended up seeing someone who they thought was Santa.
"Aww Sora, don'cha give up! Remember, you didn't know there were other worlds out there before. But now that ya do, who's to say Santa isn't living on one of 'em?"
Sora looked up at Goofy expression hopeful, "Really?"
"Never know until we find him."
Donald cleared his throat a bit, "This is sweet and all, but we're getting off topic. What else do you know Sora?"
"Oh well Santa knows-"
"Not that! What else did you learn while on the island?" Donald asked, a bit impatiently.
Sora didn't mind Donald's attitude and he continued to share what kinds of things he knew. Other than the weather patterns, how to steer a boat with paddles or a sail, and what kinds of fish and creatures were fished up each season, the Disney duo found that Sora also had hunting/fishing skills, basic cooking skills, and crafting skills. He dabbled in wooden carvings and hand crafts, but he wasn't as delicate as his friend Kairi whose hands were made for creating finer items, such as keychains and wearable accessories. He claimed his best work was this wooden robot he created after seeing a small one in the toy store. It was cute and small, but he thought if it were much bigger it would be fun to play with, so he created his own.
Once Sora completed his the list of his repertoire of skills, Donald and Goofy finally got a better idea of where Sora was at with his education. They had their work cut out for them and decided to let Sora rest for now. Since then, they've been teaching Sora different things and making sure he kept up with his education.
Thus, begins the stories of the School House Gummi Ship!
.
Yep another short one, but the idea is that Sora actually has been learning and Donald & Goofy have been doing their part to help Sora keep up with his education he's missing from not being in school. Because Donald and Goofy also have boys they take care of, they have that sense of duty to care for Sora as well. So that is basically the whole idea behind this little fic.
If you're wondering where that little Goofy flashback came from, it's from the Disney Christmas Movie, "Once Upon A Christmas." There was one part in their segment where Goofy pretended to be Santa for this family and his son Max believed he was Santa until Goofy was found out. Then they had this talk later on and sorted it all out. Anyway, it's really cute! If you're curious, you should try checking it out.
I have lots of ideas, but I don't know how to write them out. So for now, this will remain a one shot. Though, if you have any for this story feel free to leave a review, maybe it will help spark inspiration for another chapter.
For now, that's all! Thanks for reading another fun idea! See you on another one soon!
