The poor thing had missed its chance!
It's new possible friend had pranced off into the rift without giving her a glance.
Angry it was, but sadness struck it like an arrow
Leaving her much to wallow in the bitterness of sorrow
And so it laid there, tears gold and body bare
Waiting, craving for someone to answer it's silent prayer
When from the right, with not a sound
Came quite the ragged looking hound
Wounded it was, from head to toe
With two big, white glossy eyes that did so brightly glow.
"Come hither dearest friend, for certainly this is no end.
Gain courage and go through I say!
For surely your weird friend is just a grasp away."
The spirit, knocked out it's stupor
Looked at the dog, with some mild humor.
"Oh, you tempt me, you do!
But I will not be led askew.
For Wisdom has told me that only stupid young take foot into the land of the breathing,
And it is not me who will see them seething!
Now I say, off with you!"
The old dog didn't move a paw.
Instead a loud bout of laughter escaped an unhinged jaw.
"You listen to the words of the wise, it is true,
But who is to the say that lies from the wise are shed from view.
For Wisdom may turn to Pride in a snap,
And even great Valor may fall to Rage's trap.
Now open your ears young one and to only me listen,
What a fool's thought it is to think that noble spirits cannot touch the land of the living.
I have met Compassion and Lust, Faith and Fear
And all retain their nature as it were in here.
Will truly be a fool and listen to the words of a jailer?
Or will you find this mortal and your own destiny, shall you tailor?"
The spirit cried out without thinking
Anger created from small-headedness left its mind shrinking.
"Oh ignorant dog! I listen to who I please!
Not to Wisdom or you who disrupt my mind from its ease.
I create my own path, as such your words have no sway
But I shall follow her, and I shall declare so on this day!"
The spirit flew widely with such enragement
That only in but a second through the rift she went
The dog, through another bout of laughter, howled and howled
"Oh what a dumb child, but pitiful is she.
The world outside is barren and treacherous
Not even kind to a dying tree.
A hard lesson it is to learn,
But she will do so soon! And soon I say!
Lest she feel the world's burn."
The dog waltzed away, finding pride in what'd it done.
But little did it know it may have started a series of events
That can not be undone.
