Dark Desires Ch. 3
Ruby stared at herself in the mirror, the last 48 hours took its toll on her mentally. The night that Deacon found her at the airport, and coming to the loft, by the time she hit the bed, she passed out for a whole day and a half.
He wasn't in bed when she woke up a not too long ago, and honestly, she was happy about that fact. Sleeping next to a fucking vampire, that couldn't be safe on so many different levels. But she promised that she would give in a month to learn what she could about him, to keep an open mind as he said to her on the ride over, but as she looked down and washed her hands, what if at the end of the 30 days she hated him? Wiping her face with a towel, she needed to make peace with the face was that she wasn't making out of her alive.
Either he was going to kill her because she rejected him, or Blade would find them and kill everyone here. Feeling a tear slide down her face, Ruby looked at herself in the mirror, that was one thing she wasn't going to do, cry, if this was the last month on this earth, she was going to do everything she could to enjoy herself.
Peering out of the bathroom, she didn't see her bag, looking down at her clothes, she really wanted to change. When she got to the hotel, she didn't bother showering just grabbed the first thing from her bag and changed. Letting out a frustrated sigh, she didn't want to go through his things, but she really needed to shower and change.
Walking towards the door that led to the living room, Ruby slowly opened the door, finding Mercury and a redhead. "Um, do you know where my clothes are?" she asked from the doorway. While she trusted Deacon enough not to be violent to take a snap at her, the others she wasn't sure.
Looking towards the girl, Mercury could see that she wasn't leaving the door, a part of her was little offended by that, but given the fact that she didn't know anything about them, and from her brief conversation she had with him, she didn't know anything about vampires except from what she saw in the last few days. "I put your panties in the drawers, and your clothes in the closet."
Ruby couldn't help but blush at the thought of her touching her panties, "Um thank you." Before she shut the door, "What's the rules here? Am I allowed to walk around or am I like a prisoner?" she asked, figured that one of them would give her an answer.
Raquel choked on her drink, standing quickly she moved right to her, realizing she startled her with the speed, "Sorry."
Waving her hand, "I'm going to have to get use to it at some point."
Smiling down at her, "No, you're not his prisoner, you're his mate, means you are treated with the same respect that we show him." Placing her hand on her shoulder, "Mercury and I will always watch out for you, stay away from Quinn, he's an idiot."
Nodding, "I appreciate that," taking a needed breath, "I'm going to clean up," her eyes finding Mercury smiling at her, "Is there any food, you know for me?"
The women shared a look, realizing that no one even thought of that. "I'll go handle that, what do you want to eat?"
Smiling the redhead, "A few things, one, Thank you. Two, what's your name?" Ruby asked the woman.
Chuckling, "I'm Raquel, and what else can I do for you?" she asked, laughing inside her head, being kind to a human, this was something new, but perhaps it was good, unless you were born a vampire, everyone started off as a human.
"Pleasure to meet you, Raquel. If you could get a cheese pizza, please. Personal size is fine." Figuring that was the easiest thing for her to obtain, and quickest. Maybe tomorrow morning she'd be able to go shopping for herself and get food in the fridge for her.
Nodding, Raquel turned and headed out the door, almost laughing at the idea of her grabbing food, it's been 90 years since she's eaten human food.
Shutting the door, Ruby started opening drawers until she found her panties, quickly grabbing a pair, she turned and headed to the closet, gasping at the sheer size of it. "Jesus." It wasn't even half filled and seeing her few items hanging near his designer labels almost made her laugh.
Grabbing her purple sundress, she made a beeline back to the bathroom locking the door behind her, while she agreed to give him a month to learn about him, that didn't mean she was going to be comfortable with him walking in on her.
Quicky showering, she found some feminine shampoo and conditioner, not wanting to think about the very beautiful, and deadly women that have been in here, she moved as quickly as she humanly could.
Looking down at her body, grateful that she shaved the night before, but if she was going to be staying, she'd needed to get waxed, there was no way she was going to accidently cut herself in a room full of vampires, that just seemed like a good way to get eaten.
If she wasn't so nervous about being in his shower, she would have enjoyed all the gadgets the thing had, but perhaps next time. Shutting the water, she wrapped the towel around her body, and quickly dried off and dressed quickly.
Looking around the bathroom, she made sure that she didn't leave a mess, smiling it almost looked like she wasn't even there, good. Ruby really didn't want to get too comfortable here.
Stepping out into the living room, she clung to the doorframe, making sure that at least Mercury was out there, smiling when she saw Raquel holding the pizza box like it was going to explode. But it occurred to her, that it probably smelled horrible to a vampire, "Oh God, I'm sorry. I should have realized that it wouldn't smell good."
Placing it down, she snorted as Ruby made her way to them, "No big deal, just no garlic, please."
Pulling the box towards her, "Um OK, would you mind if I went to the balcony to eat, so you aren't surrounded by the smell?" Not wanting to make them uncomfortable in their home.
Mercury laughed, "Yeah, it's a nice night out." Gently leading her out to the porch.
For a few minutes Ruby felt awkward eating in front of them, but feeling her stomach react to the smell, she slowly took a bite, not wanting to get sick from eating so fast. She could feel them watching her, carefully finishing her slice, "What?"
Mercury snorted, "It's been a long time since I've seen a human eat, I guess I forgot what it's like."
Made sense. "If it makes you feel better, I've never drank blood before." Hoping to relieve some of the tension.
Both of the women laughed at that, Raquel liked the human, she could see that she was still nervous around them, but at least she was trying to talk to them, and not kiss their asses because she wanted to be a vampire. "Are you going to let Deacon turn you?" She asked, curious about her intentions.
Ruby blinked rapidly, her first instinct was to scream hell no, but that seemed rude, given the fact that they were both vampires, "Um, I don't know. This world is so new to me, and I have a lot to learn before I fully enter it." Hoping that her answer was good for them, at least for now.
Mercury smiled, while she would love for her to join them, at least she wasn't some vamp groupie doing it because Hollywood romanticized the idea of being a vampire. "There are a lot of upsides, but just as many downsides to it as well. Good for you." Leaning back, she knew that Deacon would be back soon, she had so many questions that she was sure the girl wouldn't answer in front of him.
"The daywalker, normally he kills us, never met anyone that survived him, what's he like?" Tipping her drink back.
Ruby looked between them, so he was their boogeyman. Made sense. Taking another slice, she took a few bites before she answered, "He's a dick. He only took me because you were protecting me, figured that I was important to Deacon. So, he was going to keep me until he was able to set a trap for him."
Jumping a little when she heard them growl, but she could understand, Deacon was their leader, so she didn't take it too personally. Letting them settle down before she continued, explaining everything Whistler told her about himself and the little he shared about Blade. "I can understand his need to get revenge for his family, and Blade's distrust for vampires, but it can't be that absolute, there are good and bad in everyone, shouldn't give anyone the right to be the judge and executioner."
Deacon walked in on the end of that conversation, "That's good to know sweetheart." Smirking as she jumped a bit, enjoying how her eyes went wide. Moving quickly, he was next to her before she could blink. Smirking as she gasped, "Evening sweetheart."
Taking a second to focus on him, "Evening." Hearing the ladies chuckle she turned seeing their amused faces.
Gently touching her face, "You were asleep for a long time. Are you OK?" Worried for her.
His touch set her skin a blaze, but he asked her a question, enjoying the contact for a moment longer, "Yeah, I'm fine. Between going to the club, being drugged, kept prisoner, finding out vampires exist, escaping, and essentially kidnapped again, I've had a really stressful couple of days." Hoping that the humor in her voice was coming through.
Pulling her close to him, "I will kill him for touching you." He growled out. Like most of the vampires, they wanted him dead, but him touching his mate, well that was just extra motivation for him.
Being a breath away from him, she could see that he wasn't joking, while she wasn't a fan of killing anyone, who the hell was she to say his way of life was wrong, she was sure there was a lot of wrong doing on both sides, so she wasn't going to get involved in their war.
Deacon watched as Mercury and Raquel moved inside, giving them privacy, his eyes holding hers, "I'm a very violent man, I will kill someone for just looking at me wrong, but I will never hurt you." Not sure why he was telling her this.
Swallowing her nerves, "I hope not. I'm pretty breakable." Attempting to laugh at her current situation.
Hissing, his instinct to protect her set his fangs on edge, gripping the back of her neck, he pulled her close, placing a possessive kiss on her lips. Demanding entrance into her mouth, loving the way she tasted of honey, being mindful of nicking her with his teeth, using his tongue to control hers.
Ruby felt dizzy, she knew she was attracted to him, hell every time he touched her, she could feel her body respond to him. But having his mouth devouring hers, was enough to send her into a tailspin, wrapping her arms around his neck, she couldn't help but moan around his tongue as he took control of her mouth.
He hated the thought of stopping, but he could hear Krieger knocking on the door, pulling back, chuckling at her whimper, his eyes finding her green ones staring back, rubbing his thumb at the bottom of her lip, "Krieger is here, he has information I need." He said, his eyes watching her face go from relaxed to angry in a moment.
Leaning back into her chair, "I hate him. So damn much." Resigned that she was stuck with him at least for the next 30 days, she stood and looked at Deacon, smiling when he stood and walked with her into the loft.
Leaning down into her ear, "I could always kill him for you." He said, wondering if that would please her.
Rolling her eyes, "That's not the normal way to deal with people. I hope you know that. Murder is bad." She said, looking up into his eyes with a smile on her face.
Snorting. Wrapping his arm around her shoulder, "Maybe. But it can be fun." Chuckling at her scrunched up nose. Turning his attention to his familiar, he could feel her tension being that close to him, while he understood, but for him her walking into his club was a gift, he would probably have never met her if it wasn't for Krieger.
Moving towards the island she found herself sitting near Raquel, "So, I was wondering, would you take me out for groceries?" Knowing that there was no way that Deacon would allow her to go alone.
Seeing that Mercury nodded, while Deacon and Krieger went to the office, Raquel carefully wrapped her arms around the human, "Let's go. There should be a grocery store near here."
Waving goodbye to Mercury, she kept in step with Raquel. Enjoying the banter back and forth on their trip.
Deacon pinned the man with his eyes, waiting for him to speak. Smelling his fear. "Well?" he barked out.
Shaking in fear, he didn't understand this reception, his master should be pleased, he was the reason he had his toy, and got her back, if anything he should be fucking thankful. Shaking his thoughts clear for now, "No one knows where he is. Everyone under your command is looking for him, but we are coming up empty sir."
Quinn hissed, hating the daywalker, "We could always throw another rave, that's one way to flush him out."
Before Deacon could say anything, Krieger opened his mouth, "Have you asked the girl? She was with him for 24 hours; she may have remembered where he's located." Wondering why neither of them thought of it. Perhaps she really wasn't important to his master, just a little distraction, if that was the case, he'd have his fun with her.
Quinn looked at Deacon, while he didn't know the significance of a mate, he knew it wasn't something you would put in danger either. Hell, he'd protect her if it came down to it, but the cop was right, they never even bothered to ask her. "Boss?"
Rubbing his face, he stood and walked out to the living room, finding Mercury enjoying a glass of blood, "Where's Ruby?" not seeing or smelling her in the loft.
"She's with Raquel, grocery shopping, it seems that we have a lack of human food, and she doesn't want to live off pizza." Laughing at the image.
Nodding. Turning his eyes towards Krieger, "Get out of here, I'll let you know when you're needed." Effectively dismissing him.
Walking passed his master, hating that he was being treated like scum again, if that didn't change, and soon, he knew that meant that he was never going to be turned, and if that was the case, he'd break Deacon's toy before he was killed.
Quinn watched the human leave, something in the way he walked out of the penthouse set his teeth on edge, he was going to keep an eye on him, if he stepped out of line, he'd rip his fucking throat out.
Deacon watched Quinn stare at Krieger, "What?"
Sitting next to Mercury, "I don't trust that one, when he's done being useful, you should kill him." Enjoying some blood that she poured for him.
Nodding, "Ruby hates him too." Sitting down in his chair, his eyes looking over his people, wondering what they were thinking about his girl.
Mercury wanted to roll her eyes, but they were men, and no matter how long they lived, sometimes they were morons. "Well, Deacon, if she wasn't your mate, you would have drained her without a second thought, and she knows that." Smirking at his very stunned face, "She hates him because he sacrificed her life to you without any regard of hers. She will never forgive him for that."
Quinn looked at the blonde, "What do you mean she knows that?" A little confused at that.
Hissing at him, "Don't be so fucking stupid. Think about it, if she wasn't important to him, he would have ripped out her fucking throat, hell all of us would have. She knows that she only was spared that because Blade took her, and when he found her," pointing to Deacon, "explained to her she was his mate. Ruby is very aware she is only alive by a small miracle."
Deacon tilted his head back, Mercury was right, if she didn't register as his mate when he met her, he would have drained her. Fuck. How the hell was he supposed to over come that? Sorry I almost killed you, won't happen again. "What do I do?"
Looking over at him, "Just be honest about everything, while it could still scare her, if she ever found out you lied, she'd never forgive you." Finishing her blood, she could hear Raquel and Ruby laughing as opened the front door, turning to see them, they were both carrying a bunch of bags. "Is that enough food for you?" she asked them.
Holding several bags, Ruby couldn't see over them, "I think so." Smiling when she felt a few bags lifted out of her hands, expecting to see Mercury, but to her surprise Deacon was the one holding them. "Um, thank you."
Walking to the kitchen, she carefully put everything away, trying not to move too many things of his around, but as she opened the fridge she jumped back, seeing a bunch of blood bags in there. "I should have expected that."
Kneeling down, she carefully moved them around and put her things in there, once it was done, she found 3 vampires staring at her. "What?" she asked them, not really enjoying being stared at.
Deacon pulled her towards his chest, "How are you handling everything."
Smiling up at him, "OK, Raquel explained a bunch of vampire things to me, so now I have to learn to eat food without garlic." Shrugging, "But I figured you guys have been around a while, it would be pretty sad if a schoolteacher from Minnesota took you out by having garlic in the fridge."
The room laughed, but Deacon walked her towards the balcony, dismissing his crew wanting to be alone with her.
Sitting down on the couch, she leaned against the arm watching him, "How old are you?" she asked him, figured if she was going to be here for the next month, she should learn about the man.
Clearing his throat, "613 years old." Laughing at her face, "I'm a relic." He teased.
Doing the math, in her head, that was at the start of the Middle Ages, and the fall of the Roman Empire. "That's," stunned… "You've seen so much of history, that's amazing." Her eyes looking at him, "Where did you grow up?"
Reaching for her hand, smiling when she put it in his, gently pulling her onto his lap, once she was settled in, he told her his life, how he was turned, and what he's done in the last few centuries, not leaving anything out, while he didn't want to scare her with who he was, but the only way she could truly trust him is if he was honest with her.
Ruby listened intently, if she was being honest with herself, he was the terrifying monster she had nightmares about as a child, but she did respect him for being honest with her.
Looking into his eyes, she could see the fear that he held there, it was a little humbling that this man was terrified of her opinion of him, but one thing Ruby was not was a liar. Touching the scar under his chin, realizing that must have happened before he turned, "Deacon, you're absolutely terrifying." Leaning down, she laid her head on his shoulder, "Thank you for telling me."
Wrapping his arms around her, "I can't apologize for how I was before, all I can promise is that no matter what, I'll never harm you." Hoping that was enough for her.
"Sounds fair." Her body leaning into his fingers as he stroked her back, "You might be a vampire, but if it came down to it, I'd take out an eye if you got snappy." Leaning up as she felt his body shake from laugher.
"My eye? Sounds painful sweetheart." Touching her cheeks with his fingers, "I need to ask you something." Worried that she would be nervous about it.
Looking at his face, reading his concern, "You want to know where Blade is?"
"Yes. Do you know?" he asked her.
Nodding, "Yeah." Giving him the location that she remembered, the name of convenience store, and even the window she was able to crawl through. Smirking at his face, "What?"
"How did you remember all that?" Surprised that she was able to get that all that information.
Clearing her throat, "I may have sworn to myself that I was going to draw you a map and mail it to you, he stuck me in the neck with a needle, and kept me in room, I took that personally."
Tilting his head back, he couldn't help but laugh, "You were? Why's that?" curious about her motives.
Rolling her eyes at him, "For several reasons, one he kidnapped me because Mercury protected me and was planning on using me as bait, two, I figured if you two were busy trying to kill each other neither would notice I left, and three while I'm sure if things were different and I wasn't a mate, you'd have snapped my neck, but because of some cosmic reason I'm your mate, so you weren't mean to me when we met, figured because of that you by proxy were nicer to me so why not pay that kindness back."
Grabbing the back of her neck, pulling her closer to his face, his tongue licking the side of her neck, "After I killed him, I would have done everything I could have to find you." Smirking as she shivered as his tongue licked down to her collar bone.
Gripping his collar of his shirt, Ruby couldn't keep her eyes open if she wanted to, enjoying how his arm gripped her hips. "That's not fair, you have an army of people to search for me. That's cheating." Tilting her back a bit more for him.
Centering himself, if he didn't stop now, he'd turn her before she asked and as much as he wanted her to be like him, he couldn't force her, she was the one that had all the power in this relationship, gently nipping her neck, enjoying feeling her shake a bit, "No it's not fair, but you're mine, and there isn't anything I wouldn't do for you, or anyone I would kill to protect you." Gently pulling her hair so that she could see his eyes and how serious he was.
"That's a little insane, I hope you know that." But that was just how he was, and she wasn't going to change him, it wasn't her job, he was who he was, and she was who she was, "but for now, no murder please."
Lifting her up, he carried her into the house, "But possibly?" he teased.
Shaking her head, "I won't say never, best I can do for now." Realizing that he was locking down the penthouse, "Can you feel the sunrising?" she asked as she watched the metal plates come down.
Gently placing her on the bed, "Yes. We all can." Not caring about stripping in front of her, she was his only, no one else would see him so comfortable again.
Ruby watched as he took off his shirt and pant, standing there in just his boxer briefs. Her eyes taking in everything from his pale skin to the chest hair, he was gorgeous. Realizing that she was staring at him, she turned and blushed. Her experience with men was limited to the one guy from college, but that was a single night, but if she was really his, she shouldn't be embarrassed to be seen by him.
Standing, she reached behind her unzipping the dress and letting it pool at her feet, carefully picking it up, as she stood back up, she found him right in front of her, gasping, "That's mean." She said, smiling at him.
Taking the dress from her hand, he tossed it onto the dresser, his eyes looking at every inch of her, perfection. So many women in long life wore these barely there panties, but here she was in her bikini cotton panties and matching bra, and he couldn't have been more turned on. Turning her around, his eyes wanting to look at her, smirking when he didn't see a single tattoo on her, leaning into her ear, "Beautiful."
Looking over her shoulder, she just smiled, "Not so bad yourself." Yawning, it was such a weird thing to get used to be up all night and sleep all day she wasn't sure that she'd be able to go a month like this, but that's life he lived, and for a while she would too.
Crawling into the bed, she could hear him growl as he slid in with her, as she got under the covers, she could feel him pull her to his side. Her eyes finding his blue ones watching her, "Can I see the archives tomorrow night?"
Pulling her to his chest, needing to hold her as closely as he could, "Yeah. Of course, we can." Placing a kiss on her forehead, "Get some sleep sweetheart."
Nodding, Ruby could feel herself drifting asleep, never in her life would she have imagined how her life was going to go, but cuddling a vampire, that was definitely not on the list of possibilities.
Deacon looked down, smiling as she fell asleep on his chest, the sound of her heartbeat was strangely soothing, feeling the sun rise, he closed his eyes, holding her for everything he was worth, scared that when he woke, she would be gone.
Across town, Blade was furious, he spend the last day and a half searching for her, to no avail, and even Frost's familiars didn't know anything about the girl, he was starting to think he miscalculated about who she was to him, and perhaps she did get the hell out of the city.
Looking down at Whistler that was fixing his car, "She's gone."
Shaking his head, "I know, it was wrong to take her Blade." Hoping he understood that while there was the war between him and the vampires, he couldn't be crossing the line like that, it would make him no better.
Rolling his eyes, "I do what needs to be done." Not understanding what his problem was.
Blowing out smoke, Whistler just shook his head, this wasn't going to end well for him if he continued down this path.
