Dark Desires Ch. 5
Ruby stood in the cold shower for what seemed like forever, her mind replaying every moment from the night before. Remembering every little detail, from leaving the last gallery, to her back pinned against this bathroom shower, her cumming around his fingers.
She wanted to blame the blood that he gave her for her behavior, but she knew that wasn't the only reason why, washing the last bit of soap from her body, she turned off the water and wrapped herself up in a large towel.
When she woke up this evening she found his spot empty, for a second she was relieved, but once her brain started to work again, she was a little hurt that he wasn't there when she woke. A wave of self-doubt hit her hard, that's why she jumped into the shower, not that she needed it, but figured she needed to get a grip, or she'd end up acting like a butthurt child.
Making her way to the bed, she wanted to sit down for a bit before she ventured out to the living room, taking her brush Ruby absent mindedly untangled her hair, hoping this feeling of rejection was just her insecurities about her growing feelings for him, and not him actually losing interest.
Ruby was so lost in her own head she didn't hear the door open, or Deacon call out her name.
Deacon was sitting at the island, drinking his blood, his mind racing from the night before, never in his 613 years walking did he feel so complete. Closing his eyes, his mind going to back to the moment in the shower seeing her cum undone around his fingers, the look of pure bliss and trust on her face, it was enough to make him hard just thinking about it.
Shaking his head clear, he could see that Mercury and Raquel were watching him, "What?" he snapped, not liking being entertainment for the pair.
Sharing a look, Mercury was the one to speak, feeling a little bit more secure in her safety, "You and Ruby, are growing as a mated pair, yes?" She liked the human, she was a friend, and as much as she respected Deacon, she felt it was her job to look out for Ruby, knowing Raquel felt the same.
Hissing, "Why is that any business of yours?" Making a step towards her. While he liked Mercury enough, he wouldn't let anyone speak on his mating with Ruby.
Standing up and sticking out her chin, "Because she is my friend. You are my leader and I respect the hell out of you, you know this, but I care for her. I want her to be a part of this life." Looking down only when she felt Raquel take her hand.
Stopping in his tracks, he looked at his most lethal fighter, "You are protecting her?"
Nodding, "Yes. I know you're not intentionally going to hurt her, but you can be cold and cruel, I don't want her hurt." Her eyes never leaving his.
Smirking at her, "She's done something to us, hasn't she?" Downing the rest of his blood, distracted by the sound of the door. Turning on his heel he opened it finding one of his familiars holding a very beautiful dress.
Taking it from her hands, he just shut the door, dismissing her. Holding it up, he enjoyed how the deep purple reflected in the light, this was going to be stunning on her.
Looking up he found a very amused looked pair of vampires watching him, rolling his eyes, "I am taking her to Swan Lake." Wanting this to be the end of their discussion on his mating.
Raquel stood, lightly touching the dress, "It's lovely." Stepping back, reaching for her lover's hand, "We love her, so don't screw this up." With that she gently pulled Mercury out the door, wanting to see the city, instead of going to vampire bars, she wanted to see it the way a human might.
Deacon was stunned as his most loyal all but threatened him if he hurt her. Smirking, well, at least he didn't have to worry about them harming Ruby. Moving towards his room, his eyes finding her body wrapped in a towel her eyes staring into space, "Ruby."
Her lack of response worried him, moving quickly he placed the dress down on the bed next to her, "Ruby." He tried again, touching her face. Smiling when she jumped and looked at him.
"Are you OK?" Worried that something happened to her.
Touching the hand on her face, "I'm fine, sorry, I spaced out." Feeling a little more relaxed now that he was here with her. "You weren't here when I woke up, everything OK?"
His eyes watched hers, she was hurt that he wasn't here. Moving to sit, pulling her into his lap, "It is. I woke up to get you this." Pulling the dress up, laying it across her lap.
Ruby looked down, it was gorgeous, "Now I just feel silly." Sighing when he kissed her neck, tilting for him.
Scrapping his blunt teeth down to her collar bone, "Don't. It's natural for you to feel this way, I would too, it will ease once we are fully mated." Groaning in her ear as her body responded to his words. "Woman, you are testing my resolve." Putting her on her feet, "Get your ass in that dress, we are going to Broadway." Shoving her towards the bathroom.
Rolling her eyes as she shut the door, Ruby quickly started the process of drying her hair, while she wanted to leave it down, she knew how much he loved having access to her neck. Placing a simple braid, she carefully rolled it up into a bun, putting a little mascara on and some eyeshadow.
Slipping the dress on, she smirked with how short it was, just above her knees. Taking a second to look at herself in the mirror, Ruby was stunned with how well the dress fit her, but if she was being honest, it really didn't surprise her, he was an extremely detailed person. Taking a deep breath, Ruby walked out into the bedroom, smiling when she saw him leaning against the dresser, his dark black slacks with matching black shirt.
Inhaling deeply, he always looked so dangerous, but the truth was he was extremely deadly.
Standing in front of her, his body humming, "Let's get going, or I'm going to peel that dress off you." He said growling into her ear. Taking her by the hand he pulled her towards the private elevator, once the doors shut, he pinned her to the wall, running his tongue across her throat, inhaling her scent his eyes damn near rolling back in his head, "Fuck."
Ruby kept her neck tilted for him, enjoying feeling his tongue on her neck. Sighing in frustrating when he stopped, "I think you enjoy tormenting me."
Laughing, he carefully pulled her into the car, keeping his arm around shoulders, he pulled her into his chest enjoying her warm body against his.
His eyes watched her every reaction, enjoying how invested she was in watching the people below them. In his basic contact with the human world, most of them her age would not be interested in watching such a ballet, they were more concerned with clubs, but Ruby, while he was learning that she loved those things, her desire to experience more excited him, she had a thirst for learning.
Placing his hand on the back of her neck gently rubbing her, he turned his eyes to the stage enjoying the peace he felt when she was near him.
Ruby never seen anything so beautiful in her life, watching the main dancers move with each other, the way they moved together, she truly believed their story of heartbreak, and eventual forgiveness. Feeling a tear slide down her face, carefully reaching up to wipe it from her face, but Deacon already beat her to it.
Turning her eyes to him for a moment, seeing his concern. "I'm fine, it's just so beautiful." Giving him a small smile, her eyes turned back towards the dancers, not wanting to miss a thing, soon however, the lights started to dim and flash briefly, turning towards him, "What's happening?" she asked him.
Standing up, he pulled her to her feet, "Intermission my goddess." Carefully leading her out of their private box, while he was sure she would have been happy with sitting in the crowd, he didn't want to sit near the humans, while he could control his bloodlust, he found that most people were disgusting, lacking basic hygiene.
Heading towards the VIP lounge, he ordered a scotch, his eyes finding hers looking at everyone and everything. Chuckling, he leaned down gently biting her exposed shoulder, smirking when she jumped and turned towards him. "Are you enjoying yourself?"
Gently taking the glass from his hand, enjoying the burn that his drink provided, "That I am." Handing back his glass.
Downing it, he pulled her to him, not caring what others around them would think, she was his, and until she was fully a vampire, his scent need be infused with hers, even to the humans they would notice something about her, and natural avoid her.
Looking up at him, she could see him mind was working on something, tilting her head, she watched as he kept his body close to hers, it took a moment, but soon she understood, she showered, so his scent wasn't as strong on her anymore. Leaning towards his lips, "Are you trying to scent me?" She asked, curious about if she was right.
Deacon was learning quickly that Ruby was keen to the things around her, it only served to turn him on. Rubbing his stubble against her cheek, "Yes. Is that a problem my goddess?" He asked, hoping that she wasn't upset with him.
Seeing the lights flicker, "Of course not. However, those lovely ladies over there are looking all kinds of jealous." Her eye finding a group of well-dressed women staring at him like he was meat. Rolling her eyes as they sneered at her.
Deacon knew who she was talking about, he saw them the moment he walked into the lounge, rich, desperate, and easy. Grabbing her by the back of her neck, bringing his lips down to hers, enjoying how she opened herself to him, and his display of possessiveness.
Tasting the scotch on her tongue, hating to stop but he knew that she wanted to see the rest of the ballet. Pulling back, he enjoyed how her eyes grew large, filled with desire when she looked at him. "Time to get back to our seats."
Ruby shook her head clear, smirking as he pulled her towards their balcony, as she sat, she took several deep breaths, she wondered if her body would always be this charged in his presence, or if she completed the mating would her hormones return to normal, but she wasn't sure what she would prefer.
It was almost the end of the show, and he could feel someone staring at them, it was sending his beast haywire. His eyes scanning the crowd, looking for the threat to his mate, after a moment his eyes zeroed in on the women from the lounge, watching from across their box. Keeping his growl to himself, not wanting to upset her.
Deacon was tempted to get up and head over there, just to snap their necks for thinking they had the right to look at her with such distain. Turning his eyes to Ruby, he could see that she was entranced by what was in front of her, smiling at her, an idea popped into his head, if they wanted a show, he'd be more than happy to give them one.
Gently pulling her up onto his lap, he could feel her body turn towards him, "No my goddess, keep watching." Growling into her ear, "Do not take your eyes off the performance."
Sliding his hand up her leg, slowly over her knee, and up her thigh, groaning as he felt the heat coming off her pussy. Moving his hand until was over her center, "Don't move my goddess," gently biting her shoulder. Pushing her silk panties to the side, pleased to find her wet for him.
Ruby gasped, never before had anyone touched her so publicly before. She was so tempted to close her eyes, but sparring the occasional blinking, she kept her eyes on the ballet. Biting her lip as he thrusted two fingers into her.
Inhaling deeply, Ruby did everything she could to keep from crying out, sinking her teeth deeper into her bottom lip, she was sure if she bit down any harder, she was going to bleed, but perhaps that's what he wanted, to taste her again.
Rolling his wrist and thumb, he could feel she was close, speeding up, enjoying how she was squeezing his other hand to steady herself, the smell of her impending orgasm set his teeth on edge, "Cum for me, I need to feel your pussy milk my fingers." He cooed into her ear. Chuckling as her body tensed, "So beautiful. Cum for me, Ruby. Fuck my fingers." Pushing them deeper into her body.
Gripping his wrists, Ruby bit down hard on her lips, unable to keep her eyes from closing, rocking her hips as her body came around him, hoping to God that she kept her mouth shut from crying out.
Deacon moaned as her body rocked into his fingers, enjoying how her pussy squeezed his fingers, but it was the smell of her blood that drove him over the edge, gripping the back of her neck, pulling her blood soaked lips to his, twisting his fingers and rubbing her clit as he did so, enjoying feeling her body roll into another orgasm, it made everything so much sweeter.
Pulling back, using his tongue to soothe her lips, "You taste fantastic." Gently pulling his cum soaked fingers out from under her dress, chuckling as she gasped at the loss of contact, "Keep your eyes on me Ruby." Smiling as she did.
Taking the two fingers he brought them to his mouth, sucking her essence off them, he could feel his fangs getting longer, she tasted of honey, warm, thick, and just sweet enough not to be overpowering. His eyes closed as he licked his fingers clean, enjoying the moment, counting down to when he could bury his face and cock in her body.
Ruby watched as he licked his fingers clean, it set her body a light. "Deacon." She murmured against his cheek.
His eyes found hers watching him, pulling out his fingers, "Ruby. You are mine." Slamming her lips down on his, wondering if she would hate the taste of herself on his lips, but to his pleasure she kissed him deeper.
A loud round of applause pulled them apart, sharing a look, the couple laughed, realizing they missed the last few minutes of the show, but their moment was far better than anything they could have watched.
His eyes found the women that were now avoided looking over here, smirking, knowing that he proved his point, his eyes were only for Ruby, no other women could ever pull his attention from her.
Laying in bed, Ruby was out like a light, Deacon couldn't help but smile down at her, with his body wrapping around her, he knew he was started to fall for her, and even in his human life he never once loved anyone the way he loved Ruby. Placing a gentle kiss on her shoulder, smiling, even her sleep she leaned into him.
Closing his eyes, the only thought was in less then 2 weeks, she was either going to run or stay, and what truly frightened the man, he had no idea what she was planning on doing. While he wouldn't want to keep her against her wishes, the thought of letting her go scared him more than his final death.
A shrill sound woke her from her sleep, reaching over she carefully felt around for her phone, grumbling into it, "Hello?"
"Yes, this is Dr. Carter, from Mount Sinai hospital, I'm calling looking for Ruby Edwards, is this her?"
Popping her eyes open, "Yes. Give me a moment to get somewhere quieter." her eyes darting to Deacon, wanting to get out of the bed, she didn't want to disturb him. Carefully sliding out from under his arm and moving quickly to the bathroom. "What can I do for you Dr. Carter?" she asked shutting the door.
Clearing his throat, "We have a Julia Larson, she was brought into the ER last night, she's currently in the ICU, per her insurance you are listed as her emergency contact."
"OMG, OK, yeah, I'll be right there." Stopping herself from panicking, "What room number?"
"She's in ICU Floor 5-557. Please drive safely."
Disconnecting the call, Ruby looked down at herself, only wearing her panties to bed, knowing that she needed to dress and leave, grabbing a brush and hair tie, she tossed it up in a messy bun. Stepping into the bedroom, she could see that he was still asleep, quietly moving to the closet, she grabbed a pair of jeans and tank top.
Slipping on her socks, bra, and sneakers, she walked out of the bedroom, heading for her purse. Realizing that she was just leaving, she grabbed a piece of paper sticking it to the fridge. Rushing out the door, she damn near ran to the end of the hallway.
By the time she reached the hospital Ruby was in full panic mode, hoping that Julia was OK, wondering why she was in New York, and more importantly how did she end up in the ICU. Running up the stairs she didn't stop until she found her room, gasping at what she found.
Looking down at her friend, she could see the bruises all over her body, the tubes, and vents coming from various parts of her body, covering her mouth, "Oh Julia," gently touching her hand.
Sitting for an hour, she could hear someone walking into the room, "Tell me what happened?" she asked the Doctor.
"Are you Ruby Edwards?"
Recognizing the voice, "Yes, now what happened to my friend, is she going to live?" It was all she wanted to know.
Looking down, "She has severe swelling in her brain, we had to remove a piece of her skull to reduce pressure." Rubbing his face, "Besides her head injuries, she had severe internal bleeding, the surgeon was able to handle some of that, but he had to stop, she was close to coding, so now they are waiting and watching of when it's safe to bring her in. Too soon, she'll die, too late, she'll die."
Ruby watched as he took some vitals, "You're saying that she's probably going to die?" Her eyes finding his looking around, uncomfortable with her question, "Just answer me, now." She barked.
"There is a high probability for that, yes." Clearing his throat, "I'm sorry Ms. Edwards."
Her eyes holding his, "Don't be sorry, do what you can to save her life." Looking down at her friend, "Do you know what happened to her?"
"The police brought her in, they didn't explain anything, but I will call the officer that found her, perhaps he will be able to shed light on that." Sending a text to the surgeon about her vitals. "Is there anything I can get you?" he asked her.
"No." Pulling the chair up, she stared down at her friend, watching the machines breath for her. "I swear to you, I will find who did this to you, and I will make them pay dearly."
After another hour of staring at her friend, she heard someone enter the room, not even bothering to turn her eyes away, "Doctor, nurse, or cop?" she asked, her voice cracking.
"Detective Anderson." Clearing his throat, hoping that she would turn to him, but seeing how she just stared at the young woman in the bed that wasn't going to happen.
Ruby could feel him staring at her, "What happened to my friend?" she asked, wanting the information.
Stepping in front of her, he looked down, "That's what we are trying t figure out," it wasn't from a vampire, if it was, she be drained, and his master would have made him bury it.
Ruby turned her eyes towards him, "Then why are you here? She can't speak." Looking him up and down she could see the tattoo glyph on his wrist. Snatching she could see he was under Deacon's banner, "Deacon Frost, you're his familiar? Was this a vampire?" she blurted out.
Pulling his arm back, "Who are you?" Not seeing a glyph on her neck. Worried that he stepped into something.
"Ruby, I'm Ruby. I'm staying in the loft," she didn't know what to say to him, she didn't want it out that she was his mate until she was turned, "I was called by the doctor to come, Deacon allowed me to come. Please. Tell me." Hoping that would explain everything.
Nodding, "No, it wasn't a vampire, at least not anyone from Deacon's house." Looking around, making sure that they were alone, "Rumor has it though, several homeless and even some tourists have gone missing, more than normal. No bodies, just gone." Stepping a bit closer, "I think someone is taking these people, but I have no proof. My theory a new vampire might be in town, under the radar."
Resisting the urge to scream, "And what exactly would you need to find out?" Wondering what she could do to help along this inquiry.
"I'm going over the footage from where she was taken, it's going to take a few hours, but I'll let you know if something comes up." Handing her his card, "Call me if she wakes up."
Ruby watched him leave, her eyes falling back to her friend. Kissing her head, "Please Julia, you have to fight to live." Her hands holding her friends.
Several more doctors and nurses came in and out of her room, but eventually they determined that she was stable enough to see if they could fix the bleeding in her belly. As they wheeled her away, the surgeon looked at her, "I will do everything I can for her."
Ruby left the room and followed them up to the surgical floor, finding the waiting room, she just watched the doors, waiting, praying,
Deacon rolled to his side, reaching for his love, but finding her space empty. His eyes opening to the dark room, he couldn't see her in bed, scanning the room she wasn't anywhere in his master suite. Jumping up, not caring that he was only in his boxer briefs, moved to the living room, finding a very amused looking Mercury and Quinn. "Where is Ruby?" not smelling her out there with them.
Standing quickly, Mercury moved to the outside balcony, knowing that she loved to sit out there. Not seeing her, she moved inside, "I have no idea."
Panic filled him, did she run from him? Was she rejecting their mating?
Quinn walked around the apartment, his nose was the best out of all of them, following her scent to the fridge, "Boss!" grabbing the note and zipping to him.
Handing over the note, seeing him relax a bit as he read it.
NOTE:
Deacon, I'm so sorry for leaving without telling you, but it's noon. My friend Julia was injured and is at Mount Sinai. Room # 5-557. If I'm not back by sundown, I'm still at the hospital.
With love,
Ruby
Breathing a sigh of relief, he moved quickly to his room, dressing, by the time he was done and back in the living room, he found that all 3 of his people were ready to head out with him. "You don't need to come."
Quinn rolled his eyes, "She's out there alone, unprotected, we go."
Nodding, they made their way to the to hospital, why didn't she tell him that her friend was in town, was she worried that he would kill her? His mind racing through every possible scenario of why she kept it to herself.
By the time they reached the hospital, they were on high alert, wanting to get her surrounded by them, make sure that she was safe.
Deacon hissed at how slow the elevator was, but soon it opened, and he darted as fast as he could without letting anyone know what he was, but as he entered the room, neither Ruby nor the patient was there. His eyes looking around the hallways, wondering if she got the room number wrong.
Seeing a nurse pass by, stepping in front of her, "Where is the patient from this room?" he asked.
Looking up, she was stunned by his pale skin and his cold eyes, "As far as I know she's still in surgery. It's one floor up."
Not even bothering to say anything, he turned and ran up the stairs, his crew keeping in step with him. Pushing his way through the door, he inhaled, finally relaxing smelling her, she was here. Following her scent, he found her talking to a doctor in scrubs, but as he got closer, he watched her fall to her knees, and wrapping her arms around herself, crying out.
Pacing back and forth, Ruby was unable to sit still any longer. She felt like she was going insane, every time she heard the door open her eyes darted to the door, but each time a nurse or doctor came out, they either walked to another person or they headed to the nurse's station to update some bit of information.
At least 3 hours had passed since they wheeled her into surgery, Ruby was taking that as a decent sign, but until someone came out tell her that she was on her way to recovery, she was going to watch the city lights come on.
Staring into the night, she wondered what brought her friend here, but she needed to have faith that she would get the chance to ask her.
"Julia Larson?"
Turning towards the sound of the voice, "I'm for Julia. Is she OK?" she breathed out.
Dr. Smith felt for the poor woman, she looked exhausted, "I'm sorry, we did everything we could."
She could still him talking, explaining what happened in her surgery, but for Ruby everything went black and the last thing she remembered was hearing her name being yelled.
