Dark Desires Ch. 16
Raquel looked down at her phone, hissing at the message. "Angela, I need you." She hollered out.
Angela tossed her book down, and ran out of her room, double timing down the stairs, her eyes landing on Raquel who was looking very agitated. "What's wrong?" Worried that something happened to Ruby.
Looking up as Angela moved down the stairs, "Everyone is fine, but Ruby found a human girl, she's in need of medical attention, would you please setup the downstairs guest room?" Her eyes turning towards the door, hearing a vehicle pull up.
Nodding, "Yeah, of course." Moving quickly, Angela took a moment to get darker sheets on the bed, not knowing the condition of her injuries. Once the bed was made, she could hear Raquel opening the door, her eyes falling on a female doctor and her nurse walking in. Clearing her throat, "Is there anything else you think you'll need?" she asked, wanting to do what she could to help the soon to be patient.
Dr. Taylor looked at her, "A few rags, I'm sure that she is filthy and would want to be clean." Turning to her nurse, "Get the equipment from the car, I want to make sure we have everything we need to take care of her." Looking over at the vampire, "If she needs surgery, I can't perform that here, she'll need the hospital."
Raquel just nodded, "Fine. I will let Frost know." Her eyes tracking the nurse leaving the room, "I'll help her bring in things." Making a slight step towards the doctor, "If Lady Vangr is bringing this woman here, you better do everything in your power to help her." Turning on her heels, Raquel followed the nurse to her vehicle.
Swallowing her spit, Avery looked down at the brunette, seeing her bring in a small bucket filled with steaming hot water, and towels. "Thank you."
Angela just nodded, "Yeah." Her eyes looking towards the door, hearing Ruby's voice. As she watched her walk through the bedroom door. Unable to stop herself, she couldn't help but cover her mouth, the woman in Ruby's arms was so skinny and bruised, wiping a tear away, she looked at Ruby, "Please tell me who ever did this is very dead."
Ruby looked over at Angela, her eyes still filled with hatred and anger, "Very much so." Moving towards the bed, Ruby placed her down and took several steps back, letting the doctor start her initial exam. "I gave her some of my blood when I found her."
Dr. Taylor just nodded, "OK." Listening to her heart, she quickly examined all of her injuries, turning to Kim, "Get an IV drip going, she's severely dehydrated."
Ruby watched as the doctor and the nurse get to work to help the young woman. She could feel Raquel and Angela near her. Turning towards Raquel, "Would you please go get me something to change into?"
Raquel darted out of the room, her heart breaking at the sight of the human on the bed. Passing everyone else in the foyer, her eyes landed on Mercury, giving her a swift hug, "I'm glad you're safe." Kissing her gently, Raquel darted up the stairs to Ruby's closet grabbing her sundress and some panties.
Alexander looked around the home, his nose picking up the sweetest smell, but it was faint. Orange blossom, his mind wandering to who it could be. But for now, the glass of blood in his hand, the look of satisfaction on the faces of everyone else, told him all they needed to know, they were able to quickly and effectively put the offenders down.
Blade knew that he needed to get back, following Ruby's scent, he gently knocked on the door, waiting outside.
Ruby could smell Blade, "Come in." Her eyes never leaving the doctor's as she finished up the rape exam.
Stepping in, he found her with Angela standing over her, her eyes not even bothering to look up. "How is she?" he asked. Curious about the small woman on the bed.
"Dehydrated, emaciated, and beaten." Closing her eyes, she could feel her fangs sliding into place, "But, they didn't rape her." Grateful for that small miracle.
Wrapping his arms around her, "I'm proud of you." His eyes looking down at the young woman, then turning his attention to the doctor and nurse, "Is she going to make it?" Knowing that's what Ruby really wanted to know.
Dr. Taylor looked up at the man, "I'm keeping her sedated for the next 24 hours, to give her body time to heal. But with no unforeseen medical complications, she should make a full recovery." Grabbing the catheter, "I'll insert this as well as a feeding tube, to make sure that she's getting the proper nutrients." Turning her eyes back to the man, "I will kindly ask you to leave, we are going to wash her, and she doesn't need an audience for this."
Giving her a small nod, he turned to Ruby, "I'll be in touch in a few days. Call me if you need anything." With a quick hug, he turned to leave, as he walked out to the living area, his eyes landing on Deacon, "She's watching over her now. I'll be by in a few days."
Deacon sat down, his family along with Alexander drinking blood. His eyes turning towards the hallway that Ruby and the human were in, clearing his throat, he could see that Mercury wanted to go back there, "You can go if you want."
Touching his shoulder, "Thank you." Moving quickly, she quickly stepped inside, seeing that Raquel, Ruby, and Angela were helping the doctor and nurse clean the human. "Were you able to get her name?" she asked her.
Gently brushing her hair, Ruby shook her head, "No. She only opened her eyes for a moment." Carefully getting out the knots that were through out her naturally auburn hair, turning her eyes towards Angela who was taking the time to clean under her nails and file them down, Raquel was working on her toes. It pleased her to see that they were here to help her take care of this young woman.
Mercury didn't have anything to do, so she just stood, her eyes making sure that the young woman was safe and protected.
Dr. Taylor never seen anything like this, in her brief interactions with vampires, most of the time they were selfish by nature, but Lady Vangr was far from that. Checking the last of the monitors, "Everything is setup, I will be back tomorrow evening to check on her."
Ruby put down the brush, her eyes looking at the woman, "You will stay here, Mercury, please escort the doctor and her nurse to the guest suites." Turning her attention back to the young woman in the bed.
Mercury smirked at the discomfort that they displayed, "This way." With that she led them out of the room, and towards the guest suite, as she opened the door, she let them walk in, and indicated that food would be brought to them and fresh clothes.
Grabbing the knots that she was able to get out of her hair Ruby stood and made her way to the guest bathroom tossing them in the trash. Taking a second to look at herself, she was filthy, stripping herself down, Ruby stepped into the shower, not caring if it was hot or not, scrubbing herself down, it didn't take long for her to feel clean. Running her fingers though her hair, seeing that that the water was running clear, she turned the water off, and wrapped a towel around herself.
Moving quickly, Ruby dressed and stepped out to find Angela walking in to dump the dirty water and toss the towels in the basket. "Are you OK?" She asked her friend.
Angela turned to look at Ruby, "I will be." Wiping her face, "Please tell me that you and the rest of the super vamps are going to continue to work at cleaning up the vampire community."
Linking her arms through hers, "You have my word. I will die before I ever let this kind of treatment continue." Moving to sit next to the girl, "She's pretty." Now that her face and body were no longer covered in filth.
Raquel sat at foot of the bed, smiling when Mercury came back dressed in more comfortable clothes, "What is the plan for her when she is better?" she asked, curious to see what Ruby would do.
Looking at everyone in the room, "Give her a choice, to be a member of our house as a familiar, or go home." Ruby would never force anyone to work for her, it would always be a choice. Closing her eyes, she could feel her fangs itching for blood, given the excitement of her first battle, and the emotional roller coaster of finding her, Ruby knew that she needed to feed and quickly.
Standing, "I need to get some blood," turning towards Angela, "You can go rest my friend, I will stay with her after I'm done feeding."
Shaking her head, "No. I'll sit with her, I was just sitting in my room reading, so I'm fine." Standing with Ruby, "But I could use a snack."
Mercury and Raquel looked up, "We'll stay until you come back Angela."
Ruby walked with her arms linked with Angela, moving in the direction towards the kitchen, but as she passed the living area, she found Deacon, Alexander, and Quinn looking at her. "She's sedated, the doctor said that as long as she doesn't get an infection she should survive."
Alexander's eyes locked on the young woman who was standing next to Ruby, her pale white skin, the deep brown of her hair, but it was the expressive deep blue eyes that stared back at him. For the first time in almost 3000 years, he wanted her more than his next breath.
Ruby watched Alexander, his body tense, following his line of sight, he was staring at Angela. Realization hit her like a ton of bricks, taking a second to think on how to start the process. Knowing it was important for Angela to feel it too, and if Ruby remembered correctly it started for her with a touch.
Maneuvering her towards him, "Alexander, this is my familiar Angela Phillips, Angela this is Alexander Van Esper, Head of Van Esper House, Leader of the vampire council."
Angela was dumbstruck, she knew by living with vampires for the last month that they were all beautiful, but he took the cake. Doing her best not to gasp as he stood, he was tall, easily 6'2, his dark dirty blonde hair slicked back, but it was the strangely colored yellow eyes that captivated her. Extending her hand, "Pleased to meet you."
Gently taking her hand, he could feel the electricity running through his body where they touched. Not knowing what was happening to him, he did his best to keep his composure, "The pleasure is all mine."
Looking down at his hand, then back to his eyes, Angela knew what just happened, she spoke with Ruby enough to know. "Ruby?" Her voice filled with excitement and fear.
Deacon and Quinn looked at the three of them standing around, Quinn leaned over, "Is what I think happening, happening?" he asked his friend.
He could only nod, "I think so." Not taking his eyes off his love, "Do not touch her." He whispered to his friend, remembering how volatile he was until they sealed their bond.
Quinn just nodded, "Yeah. I remember." Standing up, he zipped upstairs to his room, knowing that the Vampire leader didn't need an audience for this moment.
Ruby gently placed her hand on her shoulder, "It's OK." Turning towards Alexander, his face was stuck somewhere between shock, and desire. "Alexander, do you know what is happening?" she asked him. Keeping her voice soft as she spoke to him.
Not taking his eyes of the beautiful woman in front of him. "No. What is this?" he asked, his voice gentle but stern.
Smiling up at him, "You found your mate." Her eyes locking on his as he turned his attention towards her, she could see that he was almost scared to believe it, "It's a lot. I know. But this pull, it's the way you find your mate."
Turning his eyes back to Angela, "Are you feeling this too?" he asked, desperately hoping that she was.
Carefully pulling her hand out of his, startled by the growl that passed his lips, "Yes." Turning to Ruby, she wrapped her arms around her, "What do I do?" She asked her.
Gently hugging her, keeping Alexander in her line of sight, moving slowly so that he didn't think that Angela was in danger, "Take it as fast or as slowly as you want." Locking eyes with Alexander, but speaking to Angela, "Your body will start wanting to be near him, and as long as he doesn't emotionally or physically harm you, it will be this way. He can't make you submit to him; you will do that in your own time." Smiling when she felt her relax a bit.
Feeling a million times better, grateful that he couldn't force her into anything until she was ready, "OK." Her eyes looking over at him, "I will take the time to get to know you, but I am staying with Ruby until I'm ready for more." Her eyes never leaving his.
Alexander couldn't help but smile, enjoying that she was telling him exactly what she needed, "I am OK with that. But" his eyes looking over at Deacon, "May I request a room to be close to you?" Not wanting to be far from her.
Angela looked up at Ruby, then Deacon, "While it is their home, I am OK with that, but you don't come into my room unless invited." Still dealing with the attempted rape from the alley.
Deacon stood, "OK. Well, That's fine." His eyes locking on Ruby who was smirking at him, "I'll show you to the room you can stay in." Moving, but as he took a step, he found Alexander frozen in his spot, "I know that feeling, but advice, don't crowd, she'll come around on her own." He whispered only for the vampires.
Shaking his head clear, "I will be back in a moment." With that, he turned to follow Deacon up the stairs hoping that he would put him in a room in closer proximity to Angela.
Ruby watched as they walked up the stairs, snorting at Angela's face as she watched him move. "So, snack?" She asked, gently pushing her with her shoulder.
Coming out of her daze, Angela followed behind her, taking a seat at the island taking an apple from the fruit basket, after a few bites, "Do I have to move in with him?" worried that if she mated, that Ruby wouldn't be her friend.
Slowly drinking the blood she warmed up, "Eventually," frowning at her face, "Hey, it doesn't matter, Lady of Van Esper or not, you'll always be my friend. That doesn't change because of this."
Finishing up her apple, Angela grabbed a banana, "So," taking a bite, "Will I still be considered your familiar?" Wondering how this all worked.
Tossing the blood away, "No, my dear, you are not. You are mated to the Leader of the Vampire Council." Chuckling at her face, "What's with that face?" she asked, as she grabbed another bag.
"I wasn't even sure if I wanted to be a vampire, but I guess that part has been decided for me." Letting out a sigh, "But until I am changed, you'll still train me?" Until such a time that she was fully mated to him, she would still be a member of House Vangr, and he better understand that.
Smiling at her face, "You know I will." Finishing her second bag, she walked around pulling her into a hug, she could hear both Deacon and Alexander sitting in the living room, "You know, that night I saw you in the alley, I knew somewhere in my body that you were going to be special, I just didn't guess it would be this way."
Angela stood and tossed out the core and peel, washing her hands, "I'm sure you didn't." As she dried her hands off, she couldn't help but wonder how if it wasn't for Ruby having complete control of herself, or whatever gut feeling that told her she was important, she wouldn't have met him, and he would probably never have met her. "If and when I turn, will you help me? I want to live like you, hunt like you."
Nodding, gently leading her towards the living room, "You know I will." Smiling as Alexander stood as she entered the room.
Angela looked at him, "I already promised Ruby I would watch over the girl for the night," the urge to touch him was strong, but a promise is a promise, and until she mated with him, she was going to uphold her duties to this house, "I would like to talk with you tomorrow evening, if you would like."
While he wanted to keep her by his side, he could see that above anything else, she was loyal to Ruby. "I would enjoy that."
Smiling up at him, "Thank you." Looking over at Ruby, "I'll see you tomorrow night." Turning towards the room, Angela was going to take the alone time to come to grips with her new reality.
Ruby walked around to the couch, leaning her body into Deacon's, feeling at peace now that she was in his arms, but her eyes finding Alexander watching them, his eyes were filled with a million questions. As she went to ask, she found Mercury and Raquel heading up towards the room, "Goodnight."
The pair looked down, "Goodnight." They said.
Hearing their door shut, Ruby turned back him, "Please, ask whatever question you want, we had to figure it out by trial and error." She said, her eyes finding his amused face.
Deacon gently kissed her lips, "She's right. If I could pass anything along to make it easier, I don't mind." While he wasn't fond of sharing his inner most thoughts with anyone other than Ruby, on this topic he would make an exception.
Alexander nodded, "Thank you." Rubbing his face, "You mentioned before, as long as I don't physically or emotionally hurt her, she'll feel the pull, please explain that."
Keeping head on Deacon's shoulder, giving him the names of the books she found this information in, "My understanding is, as her mate, the pull to mate, to breed is programmed in us, but if your mate violates that trust, the bond is broken." Shivering at the thought of her bond breaking.
Rubbing his face again, he leaned back, his eyes landing Frost, "How did you convince Ruby to trust you?" Wanting insight, Frost is very violent by nature.
Leaning down to kiss her temple, "I never lied to her, I told her everything, good, bad, and the horrible." His eyes looking into his, "It was the most terrifying thing I've done in my life, but Mercury told me if I lied to her, I would never have her trust, and I needed it."
His eyes falling on Ruby, "I've done horrible things in my centuries alive, what if she doesn't accept me?" Worried that his past was going to prevent his future.
Locking her eyes with him, "I think, that regardless of what you've done it doesn't matter to the mating bond," sitting up, but keeping her hand locked with Deacons, "It's who you are now that will dictate how your mating will go. If you have grown past the unnecessary violence, that will settle with the person that she is."
"I still need to kill, as the leader of the council, it's part of my job, sometimes that does involve humans." Not knowing how she would feel about it.
Standing, she moved and sat down next to the man, "She's similar to me in some ways. While I will never be OK with just killing someone because your bored, I understand in certain situations it is necessary. Angela gets that." Realizing that he didn't know how she became a familiar, giving him an explanation, she watched as his body shook with rage, growling and moving to stand.
"HEY." She snapped, smirking when his eyes landed on her, "She's fine, in the next room, watching over that poor girl. So, take a second before you scare her." Doing her best trying not to laugh at his ashamed look on his face.
Clearing his throat, "Sorry." Feeling a stupid for getting so emotional. "I have no idea why I got so angry." Feeling a little embarrassed for his outburst.
Deacon snorted, "It's because your mate was in danger, and your inner vampire wants to protect her." Pouring another glass of whiskey, "It settles after you mate." His eyes looking at his love, "Not completely but I don't feel like a fucking rabid animal."
Ruby couldn't help but look over at him, "You still act like one from time to time, but I find it sexy." Smiling at his face, turning her eyes back to him, "What helped me bond with Deacon, was he took an interest in me, showed me the city, not the vampire way, but the human way. And I'm sure a lot of that was annoying for him, but he did it for me. So, I suggest as you get to know her, take her out."
Moving to stand, smiling when they stood up with him, "Thank you for your advice," feeling the sun starting to rise, "I will see you in the evening." With that Alexander double timed to his room, and as he flopped on the bed, his mind racing back to the brunette that was his, hoping that he did this right.
He wanted what Deacon had with Ruby. Closing his eyes, he let the stress from the evening fade away, and soon he was drifting off to sleep.
Ruby curled up into his arms, placing a small kiss above his heart, yawning, "I love you, Deacon." She murmured.
Running his fingers through her hair, feeling her doze on his chest, "And I love you, my goddess." Closing his eyes, he knew that once this got out, that not only Ruby was a daywalker, but her familiar was mated to Alexander, people all over the world would flock to her, thinking she was some Divine spirit.
Angela stared down at the young woman, taking in her body, she was so small, if she had to guess, barely 100 pounds, she knew that this was the worst example of what a vampire could be, but to be fair, humans did this to each other too.
Letting out a sigh, she could see that the fluids were helping her; when she first was brought to this room, she was so pale, but now a little color was returning to her cheeks.
Standing up, she shut the blinds to the room, while she knew the girl was sedated, she wanted to keep it as dark as she could, knowing that the more rested she was, the better her chances of healing were.
Taking a second to sit down, Angela leaned back, wondering if the girl could hear the things going on around her, figuring that it couldn't hurt to talk to her.
"My name is Angela Phillips, I'm not sure you can hear me, but if you can, I want you to know that you are safe." Gently touching her hand, "Ruby was the one that found you, she is the Lady of Vangr, one of the newest vampire Houses." Leaning back, "I'm sure that your experiences with vampires have been terrifying, but you can trust Ruby, she would never do anything to hurt you. She actually saved me from being raped in an alley a little over a month ago."
Closing her eyes as the memory of that night washed over her. Wiping her face, "At first I thought that she was going to feed on me like she did my attacker, but to my pleasant surprise, she offered me a choice, become her familiar or go home," chuckling at the memory, "she even offered to walk me home so that I got home safely." Pulling the blanket over her legs, "At first, I was just going to go home, and pretend that I didn't see a vampire, because I mean that shit is crazy. But if I'm being honest, I was barely surviving, working nonstop, trying to get ahead, but I was just failing. Figured Ruby could have been lying, but I took the chance, and I don't regret my choice for one second. Since I've been here, she's started to train me in self-defense, saying that she didn't want me to feel helpless, and soon I'll be starting school, and I do work as her assistant, I mean the benefits are way better than working at a diner."
Letting out a yawn, "She's worried about you, but don't worry, if you don't want to work here, and you just want to go home, she'll make sure you get there and are taken care of." Standing quickly, she looked over all the monitors, seeing nothing out of place, heading back to her seat, she picked up the book that was on the nightstand, smirking at it. "Someone has weird sense of humor, Interview with a Vampire."
Clearing her throat, Angela began reading the book, figured that she needed to stay awake until the doctor came in, and perhaps having the sound of her voice would keep her calm.
Georgia could hear everything that the person next to her said, she felt herself in a deep fog, but she didn't want to fight it. She wasn't sure how long she was in that basement, almost scared to know, but if the voice that was speaking to her was correct, they would take her in.
She hoped that was the case, her father sold her to the vampires, she didn't want to go back to that man or that house again. Feeling the pull to sleep, Georgia let it take her under, hoping that when she was awake, the words that were spoken were true, she needed something good to happen in her life.
