As Fred had grown up he'd always thought of what it would be like to be married. He'd always thought of what he didn't want too. He had no desire to be rich but he did desire to have just enough. He wanted a suitable house to fit him and his family whoever that turned out to be with later on. He didn't want his future wife to be like his mum. He adored his mum so much but she'd just elected to spend her life having children and never working so they were always short on money. They did always manage to about just get by but it did mean they could never ever have anything extra. They always got one galleon each on their birthdays and he knew this was a struggle for his parents to afford. Now with this marriage law in place and Hermione being chosen as his new wife he was relieved. He was terrified she'd be totally insulted if he ever told her he didn't want her being like his mum but knew he'd need to be brave and tell her.
After breakfast Hermione could tell he was anxious even more so when he pulled her into an empty classroom for a while. As it so happened they both had their first period free so it was now or never. "Hermione we need to talk and there is something I must tell you. I don't want to offend you and this never came up last night because it was never asked about. There is no easy way to say this so I'll just out with it and hope you're not highly offended. The truth is I adore my mum beyond measure but I don't want you to be like her" he said seriously as Hermione looked at him highly confused.
"I'm afraid I don't understand Fred. Why would that offend me?" she asked him feeling out of the loop and hating it.
"When I say I don't want you to be like my mum I mean I don't want you to be baby making machine who doesn't work at all. I don't want our kids to have the life I did growing up where our parents always struggled to provide things for us. I want you to do what makes you happy and work wherever you like. My mum made her choice and I don't hate her for it but we did suffer for it whether she knows that or not. I love her so much I'm just conflicted on this one issue!" he said as realisation dawned on Hermione's face making her scowl deeply.
"Fred! You shouldn't have called her a baby making machine even if that's what she was. That's a bit mean but I can see you could find no other words to describe what she did so I'll forgive you. In all honesty I've also been giving this a lot of thought. To be honest I need to work. I'm not one of these silly people who can be content being at home with my children all the time. I think every mother should take one year after giving birth and then return to work gradually. If childcare can't be afforded then she could always work from home or something. The point is I know what you mean and it's ok!" she responded carefully.
Fred looked highly relieved she'd taken it well. He had been highly concerned she'd not take it well and get highly offended but she hadn't. She seriously didn't like that in some homes the woman had to do whatever her husband said but it was what it was. At least Fred wasn't like that as she'd hate him if he had been.
"I love my dad so much and he's the coolest but unfortunately because he's always worked so hard his whole life he can be a bit checked out which I don't love. I promise now that I won't be overworked and checked out like him. I plan to work a nine till five job always and I do feel chores should be shared. You need to teach me how to cook so I can cook for you at times! I promise to be a checked in father" he said seriously making her swoon.
There was just something so sexy about him wanting to provide for and nourish her in that way. It was a very romantic and tender thing to do. He was perfect. Well almost perfect as no one was truly perfect. She'd read up on magical births before and it was fascinating to say the least. It was totally different to muggle birth. You could choose to let your pregnancy take its course normally like a muggle would or you could alter it. Some women who hated the idea of constantly being pregnant would opt to do it once but take a potion to guarantee multiple births so that she could have as many children as she liked but need only be pregnant once. They could also take another potion if they desired so that when they chose to do this not all children came at once either with a week between each delivery. Hermione hated the idea of this though as she felt like it was a bit like cheating or something. She felt that if she was destined for multiple births it would happen naturally. As their conversation ended and Fred left the room she spotted Ron and dragged him into the classroom shocking him greatly.
"Ah Ronald just the man I needed to talk with. You will explain yourself at once Mr! What in the hell is this I hear about you not telling those of house that we never slept together! What in the hell were you thinking
cause it doesn't look like you were doing much thinking at all!" she snapped furiously as he reeled almost as though he'd been slapped.
"I dunno who told you about that or why but I only did it because you're so cool. This is embarrassing to admit but I did it because it excited me that I could be cool by extension. I mean we all know I'm not that cool but you're so smart and stuff which everyone knows. I just thought if I left people in suspense it might make something about me interesting. I'm sorry I didn't think!" he said as she bristled slightly, a slight blush on her features.
"Next time you think of doing something like that don't or if you do at least tell me first. Now I've been meaning to ask you how it is that you got matched with Pansy Parkinson of all people! Isn't she like super pureblood?" she asked casually.
"Actually she's not. It turns out someone in her familial line lied to everyone in her family and she's actually a halfblood but it doesn't change how I feel about her or see her and I hope the same is true of everyone else too. Look you know I'm not good at dealing with girls or their feelings but if Fred ever hurts you he'll answer to me and then Harry and everyone else. I love my brother really but I'll not have him hurting my best friend in the whole world because he's feeling off or something!" he snapped as she smirked slightly.
Ron was so sweet even though he often got it very wrong. His heart was always in the right place and that's all that matters. He was a great if not silly friend at times. It was shocking to hear about Parkinson but because Hermione truly was the better person Pansy would get no judgement whatsoever from her. It would teach Pansy to not always judge the book by the cover as she normally did. To be honest Pansy was stunned about what had happened to her so much that she wasn't really doing any judging anymore. Those in her house didn't think any less of her for it either. Everyone including Ron was stunned at her now beautiful face. She'd been cursed by Quirrel in her first year to look bad and her family had just assumed she was meant to look like that because of all the hormones you get when you hit puberty. They'd be in for a shock when they next saw her for sure.
Ron and Hermione left the classroom whereupon they were set upon by Malfoy who sought to tease them and accuse them of sleeping with each other because their spouses to be wouldn't touch them.
"Look at what we have here. That classroom must have been luxurious for you Weasley. I mean don't your family all eh live in one room. You guys had to seal the deal because your spouses to be didn't want to know didn't you!" he sneered.
"Fuck off Malfoy!" Ron snapped angrily.
"Ooh temper, temper. I can see I've touched a raw nerve. Just because this mudblood here is the only one who'd ever have you by choice!" he sneered further.
"What did you call me?" Hermione asked her tone lowering slightly.
"I think you know I called you a mudblood because, well, it's what you are you filthy little bitch!" he sneered haughtily while laughing at her.
"Oh for god's sake get a damn life. Like I have time for you, you stupid weasel!" she snapped waving her hand and freezing him where he stood.
"Come on Ron we've got class and I'm done with this fool!" she said pulling Ron along behind her. Ron was stunned at what she did but he didn't mention that to her.
In fact he thought he may have imagined it. They entered class and the teacher asked where Malfoy was and everyone said they didn't know. He received detention from Flitwick for bunking on class. A short while later a stunned Malfoy ran into the classroom accusing Hermione of attacking him.
"Mr Malfoy you're late now take your seat. I don't even want to hear it and you have detention with me tonight for trying to bunk on class. Ten points from Slytherin for not listening. Would you care to make it twenty?" he snapped as Malfoy glared at Hermione and went up into her face.
"I'll get you for this you stupid mudblood mark my words. Oh shut up sir I'm going to my seat now" he sneered really not caring what happened to him at all. They were learning a new charm for cleaning today and it was a complex one as it cleaned one whole room at a time as oppose to one item at a time. At the end of the lesson Snape turned up to question Filius on the point loss. When he heard why he was furious.
"Draco come with me now. I apologise Professor I'll deal with him myself in a while and he can serve that detention with me. Now what were you thinking?" he snapped as Draco reeled.
"That mudblood cursed me! She froze me and made me late for class!" he snapped back.
"Well Draco this school is a bit full of those so which one is it?" Severus snapped shocking Draco greatly who mumbled Granger.
A quick glance into Hermione's mind by Severus showed him all he needed to see. Draco had been frozen but it didn't look like she'd done it to him in the memories at least. He had been frozen but it had looked like he was cursed by someone they couldn't see. He'd seen Draco antagonising them first and scowled deeply. Was he just looking for trouble? I mean he'd been as subtle as a brick. Severus thought he'd have cursed Draco himself at this point.
"Suffice it to say Draco I do know what happened and next time you'll think twice before you antagonise someone won't you?" he snapped moving out of the way of the exiting students.
Draco jumped. How in the hell had he known that? Had he been there? This terrified Draco who agreed at once almost soiling his pants that his lies were caught out so easily. Clearly Severus had been there somewhere and he'd not seen him. Was Severus following him? This was a scary prospect to consider. They had potions next so he walked with them down to the dungeons with Severus looking around to be sure Draco wasn't cursed again. Clearly Draco's mouth had run away with him and he was paying the price for it now. Better luck next time Severus thought with a sneer. This lesson would be interesting.
