Hey Guys! Sorry it's been so long, I've quite honestly hit a mental block lately in all aspects of life. But I'm glad to finally return to this. I hope you enjoy, and always please give feedback and thoughts :)
Draco slowly shifted under his green satin sheets as he nervously glanced at the fireplace in his room. Pansy had hurriedly left their usual Saturday night floo call stating she heard her mother calling for her. Draco knew her parents wouldn't ever call for their pureblooded daughter at this hour of the night, leaving him in worry over his dainty friend. Perhaps she would call soon and they could continue their exciting conversation about their upcoming year at Hogwarts.
Draco was excited at the prospect of being able to learn and grow with his developing magic. Everyday his mother and father tried to teach him a new skill, but it was no match for his growing hunger to learn. Besides, going to Hogwarts meant he could see Pansy everyday. Pansy and Draco had grown up together as little ones. Toddling around the Malfoy Manor's marbled halls. His parents had adored Pansy, and were concerned along with Draco at her sudden absence from the Malfoy halls. Draco could tell his parents were concerned from the hushed conversations from the drawing room he would listen to around the corner.
Always catching wind of words discussing what Pansy's parents had been like in high school, Draco didn't even understand them most of the time.
Draco was stirred from his thoughts as he heard his mother's light wrap on the door. "Mum?" Draco asked lightly. "Yes dear", Narcissa responded as she opened the door to enter Draco's room. Laying in the far center was Draco's large bed, which Narcissa scolded Lucius for letting him have. Wrapped in his green blankets, Narcissa noted the worried smile stretched onto his face.
"Pansy?" Narcissa gently asked.
"Her mum called her away, she said she would be back in a minute." Draco quietly answered.
Narcissa pressed her lips together and leaned on the side of the wall, "I think it's time both of you got some sleep anyway, tomorrow is a big day after all."
Lucius swept in beside her, "Remember we have to be up early if you want to get brunch before we head off." Narcissa pushed her husband off lightly and strode over to sit next to Draco on his bed. She ruffled his hair lightly and said, "If Pansy does come chat with you, make sure she knows she's more than welcome to join".
Lucuis murmured," in more ways than one." He looked up and smiled at Draco," Go one now listen to your mother, sleep is important for greatness, and greatness is what you bring to our world." With that he rapped the door lightly and stepped out of the room into the hall, his footsteps fading away as he receded to his and Narcissa's room.
"Your father was always one for the dramatics" Narcissa lightly laughed as she rose from the bed. She smoothed the corner she had perched on and strode to the door. She turned toward Draco, "Goodnight son, pleasant dreams" as she gently closed the door behind her.
Draco flopped into bed looking at the charmed constellations that played across his ceilings. Swans and horses pranced together as the stars collided and played with one another. Pansy's favorite was the north star, she had told him, because it was the brightest one in the night sky. Draco rolled to his side and settled among his pillows. Perhaps she would floo back, he thought, if only he could stay awake for a little longer. Draco drifted into sleep as the stars gently flickered to a stop above him.
Narcissa rounded her bedroom door only to find Lucius standing, carefully holding their old yearbook.
"Looking at Eira and Nicholas" questioned Narcissa as she lightly treaded to their shared bed and sat down. Lucius smoothed back his long hair that had become rumpled from his anxious thoughts. He flipped the yearbook shut, silencing all the tiny portraits giggling and smiling. He tossed the book back in the open trunk that laid at his feet, "Just wanted to remember what we all used to be like" he murmured lightly.
Lucius gingerly leaned down to close the trunk the couple kept at the foot of their bed. Filled to the brim with bright memories and happier times, they both loved looking through it while getting drunk with wine on lazy nights.
Lucius stood up brightly and strode to the edge of the bed, grinning lightly he tackled Narcissa on the bed and started plopping kisses on her angular face. "Tonight it doesn't matter," Lucius said as he placed a final kiss on her nose and rolled over to Narcissa's side.
Narcissa turned on her side to face him, her hair fanning over her face. "Tomorrow it might" she posed thoughtfully. Lucuis reached over to tuck her silky hair behind her ear. "Perhaps it might, but we will handle it together."
"Always have always will" Narcissa murmured as she nestled into the soft pillows behind her.
Lucius thoughtfully threw a blanket over his wife as he swished his wand to extinguish the candlelight in the room.
Thoughts flew rampant through Lucuis' mind as he drifted off to sleep. Perhaps he would have to speak to Nicholas in the morning about what was going on in his own manor.
Pansy awoke with a start as she heard her houself Periwinkle pop into the room.
"Missus asked Periwinkle to wake her up before Missus Eira woke up" said the dainty elf.
Pansy had a secret enjoyment of making sure she was up before the rest of the household. When she was younger, her father had always woken her up right as the sun was rising. He always would preach how the master of the household should arise before all others, to make sure everything was perfectly run before even the first eye blinked open in the Parkinson household. Of course it was always followed by a secret breakfast hidden from her mother, before they surprised her with Violets from the garden. Now, Pansy simply awoke in the mornings to ensure any damage from the night before was wiped away clean. No need to invoke her fathers wrath before he started drinking by mid afternoon.
Pansy flashed a light smile at the elf, "You know I asked you to call me Pansy, Periwinkle"
"Oh Periwinkle would do so Missus but Sir Nicholas would think me improper if he heard. Better to not let Periwinkle get comfortable with it", Periwinkle said as she bobbed her head and started up the fire in Pansy's room again. Pansy's smile faltered as she was gently reminded of the personal duties she had to attend to in order to make sure an explosion didn't happen in the house once her father awoke. Nicholas was well known for cursing and shattering anything that didn't please him when upset, including her mother and herself. Pansy shuttered as she rubbed her ankles which had faded cuts glimmering in the light streaming in from her balcony window.
Pansy shook her head out of her thoughts as she swung her feet over the side of her bed. The fire was toasty as it crackled in the early morning. Even though the temperature outside was perfectly liveable, the mansion always seemed to be laced with cold air at every waking moment. As she slipped her feet onto the marble floor she began bustling about. After showering and drying her hair, she worked on putting a presentable outfit together. Choosing a light blue dress that flowed to the ground, Pansy carefully slipped a matching robe on top of her bare arms. Turning to the mirror she pinched her cheeks and slipped clear gloss on her lips. Mother always said she detested glamour spells and makeup on young girls, claiming it made them look whorish for their age.
"Missus always looks so pretty in blue" popped up Periwinkle who was smoothing down the covers on Pansy's bed. "A splitting image of Miss Eira".
Pansy blushed as she turned away from the mirror to look at Periwinkle. "I wish she thought so too". Pansy quickly grabbed her shoes, and glanced around the room seeing it was clean. She missed Periwinkle's worrying glance as she swept out of the room.
Periwinkle stood in silence folding Pansy's royal blue blanket. "Missus should be happier than this, '' sighed Periwinkle.
Pansy swept down the master stairs, her blue robe sweeping behind her. Rushing to the drawing room, she groaned at the sight of the white marble floor stained with wine and blood which was still pooled on the floor from the night before. She turned and headed for the kitchen where she knew the house elves kept cleaning supplies. She quickly grabbed what she needed and hurried back to the drawing room.
About an hour later, the floor was perfectly polished. The table was reset and a glass of wine and scotch were poured for her mother and father, who now skipped their morning family breakfast. Just as she finished placing the ice in her fathers glass, the drawing room door cracked open. Periwinkle toddler is carrying Pansy's blanket from the night before and a light pink long dress in her arms.
"I brought Missus a new dress and saved your blanket from the hall" Periwinkle beamed as she ran up to Pansy. Gently talking, she said, "Missus has red stain on her dress, needs to change before Master and Missus arrive". Pansy glanced down at her dress, seeing the stain Periwinkle had found. "Merlin, thank you Periwinkle," Pansy murmured. Taking the dress from the tiny elf, she ran to the bathroom to change.
Just as Pansy slipped back on her robe, she could hear her mothers heels clicking down the hall. Pansy took a breath and walked into the hallway, just trailing behind her mother.
Eira turned eerily, a smile plastered onto her face. "Good morning Pansy" she crooned as she swept into the drawing room and immediately grabbed the wine setting on the table.
"Good morning mother" Pansy chirped right back. Perhaps things today will go better than expected. After all, she was heading to Hogwarts today. Even her parents could resist making today a bad day right?
She was wrong.
