Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Thieves' Dance. Enjoy the 900-word chapter. I don't own RWBY. Monty Oum and Rooster Teeth do.
"You are aware there is a window. Yes?" Ozpin questioned and turned to face the masked and hooded figure. "I'm surprised your back from your mission so early. You didn't send word, Russ." Ozpin stated as the man removed his mask.
His blackish longcoat helped with stealth missions and keeping a low profile. A pair of weapons hung on his belt as the man ran a hand through unruly rust colored hair. Russet dusted off his blackish blue pants and walked forward.
"Qrow sent me back, thought he could go it alone." Russet said as he tightened a pair of rust-colored fingerless gloves. "I didn't want to keep him from his work… Plus one of us had to make a report… And deal with things in Vale." Russet said and put his hands on Ozpin's desk.
"Yes, I'm sure that you've heard much on your way back." Ozpin said while crossing his arms. "What did you learn in the meantime?" Ozpin questioned while Russet sighed and shook his head.
"It's nothing good, the Grimm are spreading like wildfire. You could drop a bomb on them and there's still going to be hundreds more…" Russet said before clearing his throat, his eyes widening as he paused.
"My turn, what the hell happened, Oz? You sent us out to do some field work." Russet said as he walked closer and looked to the side. "I hear that a string of robberies is gutting the city. Hell, a SDC freighter got raided by the time I was coming back." Russet added while shaking his head.
"You know exactly who ordered that." Ozpin said and tapped his cane on the ground. "And why she cannot be allowed to continue this… I have another assignment if your back already." Ozpin said while Russet raised an eyebrow.
The man kept his eyes covered despite the mask. Ozpin knew he rather enjoyed making people think he was blind and harmless. Russet was a very unique being around Ozpin's circle.
"And I'm guessing it doesn't involve blowing things up and lots of violence?" Russet asked as he raised an eyebrow. "Because plenty of things have been blowing up left and right. Stealth isn't exactly my strong suit." Russet stated and clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth.
Russet cracked a cocky smile. His skills did not stop purely at combat, Ozpin knew that…. Which meant this mission was big if it involved him to begin with.
"There's a White Fang meeting in town which is on the down low." Ozpin said which got a hum from Russet. "I was hoping a Faunus with a knack for being where he shouldn't could pay it a visit… And I'm sure you have your own way of figuring out more about our friends?" Ozpin asked as Russet shrugged.
"I'll handle it, Oz." Russet said and turned around to leave. "Just allow me to think of something. I'm sure we're have something when it's all done with… I'm not responsible for any explosions or wreckage of White Fang equipment you may find." Russet said before spreading his wings and flying out the window.
Glynda walked out from the elevator while brushing her glasses free of dust.
"Was that Russet?" Glynda asked and got a nod from Ozpin as he turned and looked at his lieutenant. "I didn't think he'd return anytime soon. I thought you sent him towards Mistral with Qrow." Glynda stated and crossed her arms.
"He was, he told me he just returned." Ozpin said while standing up. "And so has SHE last I believed. I ordered Russet to investigate the robberies… Their far too coordinated to simply be the work of Mr. Torchwick… Especially considering how low profile he was before this." Ozpin stated and clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth.
"And what makes you think that Mr. Adargo is up to the test you've put in?" Glynda asked and walked around the desk. "Russet has never finished a 'stealth' mission without destruction… Or shall I recant the time of how we sent Russet to spy on the Grimm occupying Vacuo… Which ended with several explosions and a burning Nevermore crushing most of the enemy camp…" Glynda said with distain upon thinking of the subject.
Ozpin said nothing. His mind was focused more on Salem at the moment, wondering what his old enemy was focused upon at the moment. He couldn't fathom what her purpose was in Vale. He didn't want to know at the moment, he was scared of what she could do and she WOULD do if given the chance to cut upon Vale.
"She has made her move… And it's time to make ours." Ozpin said as he turned to look out the window.
Russet hadn't failed him before. He wouldn't fail him now. There would be much more work to do soon.
