The message read:

WEAPONS ARE READY OUR MAN WILL MEET YOU AT THE SUNSET COORDINATES 28°22' E, 59°37' N

As soon as she cracked the code, they had a meeting in the code-breaker tent, where they were all bending over the map laid on the table. The meeting above the map was tense. They did not smile, they just talked about the whole action.

"The coordinates point to this school."

"Where should we park the trucks?"

"What about in here? Behind the church?"

"We do not know where they are coming from, they can see us there."

"I would park it in these woods. We can hide it easily."

"Then we will have to bring everything with us, it's a few kilometres."

"We will need only our guns, it won't be that heavy."

"Should we not use only one truck?"

"Nah, there will be too many of us. No place for hostages."

"And no place for lying down, when there are so many of us."

"- and for injured ones."

"Shut up, Gabe."

"What, I'm just saying."

"Stop saying it then, you know the rules. We do not talk about it; we are just prepared for it."

"What is our plan, captain?"

"We must find out who is the mole. But there will be two parties. If the enemy is there first, we would have to wait for the second party. They mustn't know about us, otherwise, they would send an echo."

"Can we hide in the school?"

"I do not know, maybe."

"Will the exchange take place inside or outside?"

"They will not bring boxes and weapons inside just to bring them outside, but they might want to meet inside."

"What does it mean for us?"

"We will split into two teams."

"Do we take hostages? What are the commands?"

"To take hostages if possible. The most important thing, however, is to find out who betrayed us. That would be our main man."

"How far is it?"

"Approximately 6 hours ride."

"We will be there approximately 4 hours before sunset. Let's hope it's enough."

"Yeah, that also means that we should eat something in the truck – we will not bring it with us."

"You and your never-ending hunger."

"Don't blame me – I have not eaten properly since 1939."

"What about uniforms?"

"It's school so the camouflage uniforms are not necessary. But take bulletproof vests on."

"Should we leave a message here about where we are going?"

"What if they follow us in order to take the credit?"

"We should not reveal that we found out – if the agent is in this camp, they will be informed…"

"Good point Peggy."

"What do we do if it is somebody who has a higher rank than we do?"

"Let's cross that bridge when we come to it."

Peggy remembered what once col. Phillips told her about finding moles in their army, though…

/

"If you find out that somebody in our army is a mole, do not dare to tell anyone."

"But Sir…"

"… to anyone, you do not trust with your life. Do not tell your friends; do not tell your superior if he knows the mole too. You must tell to somebody that you know will not just wave his hand and say that it is only in your head. Because if you do so and if he will not take you seriously – and bet on that that they will doubt you more than their friend in arms… you are in mortal peril. Do not let the mole out of your sight but wait and inform someone impartial. When it is not your direct superior, go higher… You can always tell me, Carter. I will not doubt you for one second. But it may happen that I will not be there. You must go as high as possible since you are not completely sure about the honesty of the confidant."

"I should go to the general, then, if I am not sure, sir?"

"Even higher. If it is necessary to, go to the commander-in-chief of the armed forces if necessary."

"The president?"

"Yes, Carter. When it is necessary, you must go as high."

"And what if I do not trust him either?"

Phillips looked at her amused.

"If it is because you did not vote him, you can still confide in him. If, however, you do not trust him because you think that he is part of the plot, then you can do only one thing."

"Shot the president?"

"No, Carter. Leave the army."

She raised her eyebrows.

"Once you can't trust him, you should come up with a very good story about why you want to leave the army and go and hide somewhere. If it is so high, you will not be able to do anything about it, and you can only enjoy the rest of your life. Do not look like that, Carter. That is maybe the only advantage you have as a woman. When this happens, you can say that you want to start a family. Nobody would ask you. You have a universal excuse for leaving.

Peggy considered telling them for a while, but then decided to be quiet for now… As Steve said… they will cross that bridge when they come to it.

Before they departed, they left a message to Wells, but since this was supposed to be their action, they did not wake anyone (not even the guys on watch who were snoring behind barrels with fire. But they left a message. Completely false information about their destination and that they will come back in two days after they meet colonel Phillips in the nearest city.

They split into two trucks. The first one was driven by Bucky, and the second one by Dugan. Dugan's truck was marked as "the snoring car", so Peggy decided to join Steve, Sam, Pinky, Morrita and Junior. They were not able to sleep at first (even though they knew that they would not have many opportunities for doing so till they come back to the camp), and they started to share ideas of what are they looking forward to once this mission is over. They laughed a lot. Firstly, Steve was in the front with Bucky, but then he joined them. He sat next to Peggy and only listened. He did not want to contribute with his own wishes, but he liked to hear his men talking. Peggy did not join them either but was chuckling along with Steve as they were talking about their plans. After an hour, they fell asleep. They slept on the floor of the truck and looked peaceful.

Steve was watching them for a while. He checked on Peggy to see if she was about to fall asleep in the sitting position, but she had her eyes opened and looked over their fellows as well. He took his breath and asked her quietly (well, as quietly as possible considering the truck rumble.

„And what are you looking forward to?"

„Sleeping. Haven't been sleeping properly since the last month. "

"Yeah, well... it was a hard month!"

"That was."

"You know… I am a captain, so… I can guarantee you twenty-four hours of sleep."

"Can you?"

"Yes, I can. Any other requirements?"

"What about breakfast to the bed?"

"As you wish. Would you like some tea?" He tried to sound British.

"Of course, it would not be complete without tea."

"Black or fruit?"

"You know that the fruit tea is not tea."

"So, black it is."

"Hmm… then I am really looking forward to it."

"I can't shake off the feeling that you do not trust me."

"Hours of sleep has the same value as gold in here. Are you that rich?"

"I am not, but I can bribe Col. Phillips. Actually, you won him one hundred pounds, so…"

"Did I? I am not aware of that."

"Yeah, he bet on you that you can crack the code. So… maybe with his little help… it can be even 25 hours of sleep."

She laughed.

"You know that we led this dialogue five times already? And I haven't slept since we started talking about it."

"That is true… do you suggest that this dialogue is somehow cursed?" He laughed. "But" he added. "About the wish of having breakfast in your bed… it almost happened."

"I do not remember such a thing! Was I present?"

"Yes… do you remember the biscuits you ate in your sleeping bag?"

"Do you mean the pack of biscuits you ripped over my sleeping bag and then eating them?"

"You joined my feast."

"You did not complain."

"Of course, I did not – but if it was anyone else – I would complain… and bite his head off."

"I could not sleep the whole next night because it scratched me. I think that some crumbs are still in there."

They both laughed silently not to wake the others.

"You are making progress."

"In what field?"

"In talking to women."

"Nah – haven't had much opportunity to practise in there."

Ouch! She blinked a few times in order not to lose her composure.

After a while when Steve suddenly realized what did he say, he tried to save the situation.

"I just meant... you know... you are part of Howling commandoes, it's different to talking to women out there… I mean… I take you as one of us, you know… as one of my brothers." He was really terrible in this.

Peggy looked at him with a mixture of pity and disappointment in her eyes.

"I got it, Steve. Now I think that I will try to sleep for a while." She laid herself down next to Sam in her sleeping bag.

Steve moved next to Bucky who looked at him with such pity that Steve thought that he would be announced about the death of some of his friends.

"What?" She asked when Bucky stayed quiet.

"You were so close…"

"Close to what?"

"Close to be allowed to ask her out for a date once the war is over… if you finished two sentences earlier… and did not call her your brother… Steve, you should really listen to yourself when you talk to women."

"She is not…"

"A woman? Yes, you said so."

"That is not what I meant. I … look at me Buck, you know who I am… I do not know how to do that and even if I knew… she saw me before the transformation, I would not stand a chance."

Bucky's face was unreadable, but he thought otherwise.

They were not particularly whispering as they wanted to hear each other, and the road was so rocky that the trucks made noise. However, they were loud enough that Peggy could have heard them. She was laying in her sleeping bag, and she rolled her eyes when she heard Steve talking… Before she fell into a restless sleep, she thought … Yeah, Steve… you were THAT close….
