Volume 4:

Chapter 7: Family Bonding

We then see a 17 year old Sam.

He was currently dressed in a beige dress and gray headband.

Sam and his father were going to go on a trip. Some father and son bonding.

Alastor was escorting him, which Sam was very happy about.

"I really love having you with me", Sam whispered.

Alastor whispered, "the feeling is one hundred percent mutual."

Sam smiled. He was happy to have Alastor as his bodyguard much more now then when they first met.

Now he felt that he couldn't live without Alastor. It felt like true love.

He just wished he and Alastor didn't have to hide their relationship. He wanted to show off his affections.

Soon, the two made it to the hangar bay, where Vader was waiting near a small shuttle.

Vader said, "ah, Sam, my boy. Are you ready for this trip?"

"Yes, Father", Sam said.

Vader nodded and said, "very good."

Sam asked, "where are we going dad?"

Vader said, "an old campsite I would sometimes take your mother to when on shore leave. It's on Takodana."

"Really? Cool", Sam said.

Vader chuckled.

The three then board the shuttle, kickstarting their trip….

….

Sam was with his father in the cockpit as Vader showed him pictures of the planet.

Vader said, "welcome to Takodana. A lush green planet, perfect for a relaxing camping trip."

Sam smiled in awe at the photos.

Sam said, "it looks beautiful."

"That's what your mother said about this planet as well", Vader said.

Then a crashing sound was heard.

"Can't catch me!"

Sam asked as he heard her voice, "wait, is that Polly?"

"GAH!"

That's when Alastor entered, carrying a pouting Polly in by her tail.

Sam exclaimed, "Polly!? What are you doing here!? First of all; how did you even get inside the shuttle!?"

Alastor said, "she was hiding in your backpack."

Sam facepalmed.

"You stubborn little child", Sam whispered.

Polly gave an embarrassed giggle.

Vader let out a chuckle at the scene.

Sam took Polly into his arms.

"As a punishment, you're staying with me until we get to Takodana", Sam said.

Polly pouted but nodded.

….

Some time later….

We see the shuttle landing on Takodana.

The shuttle stood in a large empty field as the doors opened and the group disembarked.

"It's even more beautiful in person", Sam said in awe.

Vader chuckled and said, "I'll get everything set up."

"Okay Dad", Sam said.

Sam saw a nearby log and went to sit on it.

Polly asked, "can I go explore, Sam?"

Sam said, "fine, but please have Alastor go with you to keep you safe?"

Polly nods her head.

Alastor began following Polly.

Sam smiled. He loved seeing those two getting along.

….

A few minutes later….

The camp was all set up.

Three tents, a campfire, logs set up to sit at.

The three men were sitting on the logs.

Each one was roasting Bantha Sausages on sticks.

Sam had given Polly candy for her to eat.

But not too much.

Sam then waited for the sausage to cool down a little and then he took a bite of it.

It was quite delicious.

"It's so good", Sam said.

Vader and Alastor chuckled.

Sam took another bite of the sausage.

It tasted so good.

The three men then finished their Bantha sausages.

Next were the smores!

Sam already had his marshmallow on a stick. He carefully roasted it.

Sam then grabbed a cracker and chocolate.

He soon built himself a smore!

Sam took a bite of his smore.

It tasted absolutely amazing!

Sam then took another bite of his smore.

He couldn't get enough of it!

Alastor smiled at the sight of Sam.

He looked so adorable as he chomped on the sugary treats.

He knew Sam loved candy and sweets a lot.

It was honestly quite cute.

Vader ruffled Sam's hair.

Sam giggled innocently.

Vader said softly, "what did I do to get such an adorable child like you?"

Sam shrugged with a smile.

….

A few minutes later….

Sam was sitting on the log by himself as he was in deep thought about his adopted family.

He hoped they were doing alright. He really missed Ahsoka, Hunter and the others. And he kept hoping his path would lead him back to him….

Sam felt a few tears in his eyes.

"Son, come on, time for bed", Vader said as he walked over and then he sensed his son's sadness.

Sam wiped his eyes and said, "alright dad. Have a good night."

Vader placed his hand on Sam's shoulder.

Vader asked, "you're thinking about them, aren't you?"

Sam said, "it's hard not to…. I've known them for so long…. I know they're rebels…. But they're my family…. Just as you are."

Vader sighed as he hugged his son.

He then led Sam to his tent and wished him good night before retiring to his own tent.

Polly had her own little tent set up as well.

Sam sighed as he laid down.

He was eager for a good night's sleep.

Sam then felt an arm wrap around him.

He smirked as he looked over his shoulder at a smiling Alastor.

"You always know how to cheer me up", Sam whispered.

Alastor whispered, "if I didn't, I'd be a terrible boyfriend."

Sam giggled. The two of them then kissed one another.

Sam wrapped his arms around Alastor.

Alastor rubbed Sam's back.

Sam and Alastor began to french kiss. As they did so, they began to slowly shed their clothes.

"Oh! Oh", Sam breathed out as he felt Alastor kiss his neck.

Alastor whispered, "you like that? My little imp?"

Sam nodded before he asked, "little imp?"

Alastor chuckled and said, "a common nickname for lover's where I grew up on Dantooine."

Sam giggled as he nodded his head.

The two continued to kiss until they were only in their underwear.

They were in their own little world.

They almost couldn't hear anything.

And then….

"WHAT?!"

Sam and Alastor broke the kiss and they turned around to see Vader!

And they both thought, 'oh shit.'

"DAD!? Uh…. I can…. Expl-" Sam said before his father yelled, "GET OFF OF HIM!"

Vader suddenly used the force to throw Alastor out of the tent and stalked towards him as Sam and Polly frantically ran out of their tents!

Sam shouted in fear, "DAD! STOP!"

Vader growled as he lifted Alastor in the air and began to slowly choke him!

Vader growled, "you'll pay for this treachery!"

But suddenly, a branch was smashed over his back! This made Vader drop a coughing Alastor to the ground as he slowly turned to see Sam holding the broken remains of the branch.

Sam growled, "don't kriffing touch him."

Vader was very shocked by this act from his son.

Vader tried to ask, "wha-"

Sam growled, "I need him! I can't live without him! And if you ever touch him again, I'll never forgive you for this!"

Vader froze when he heard his son say those words.

Sam then stormed past Vader and over to Alastor.

Sam asked, worried about his boyfriend, "Alastor, are you okay!?"

Alastor coughed but nodded as Sam held him close.

Sam hugged his boyfriend.

Polly hopped over and hugged Alastor.

Alastor held her close as he finally caught his breath.

"Oh my love, I was so scared, I didn't want to lose you", Sam cried.

Alastor hugged Sam and said, "it's alright. You'll never lose me. I promise."

"I love you Alastor", Sam whispered.

Alastor whispered, "I love you too, Sam."

Sam then turned around to see his father

Sam was angry beyond belief.

Sam asked, "well, have anything to say yet Father?"

Vader stood silent for a moment before he said, "I'm sorry…."

"I hope you really mean it, cause like I said, I will never forgive you if you do anything to Alastor", Sam growled.

Vader nodded.

Sam then helped Alastor up and helped him walk over to the tent.

Polly walked behind them and gave Vader a kick to the shin. It didn't hurt him, but it satisfied Polly's anger.

Vader was in his own thoughts.

He stood there as still as a statue.

His mind was still processing everything that he saw.

His son's anger and rage, as well as the affection he held for Alastor. And the words his son said, when he nearly killed Alastor. He had never seen his son so enraged!

It reminded him…. Of himself. Of the things he had said and did when he turned to the dark side and tried to save Padme.

Vader felt a tear fall down his cheek.

His mask hid his sadness.

Now he had to find a way to make it up to his son.

Somehow….

….

The next day….

The campsite was eerily quiet.

Vader had resigned himself into the ship as Sam, Alastor and Polly sat by the remains of the campfire.

"Awkward", Polly muttered.

Sam and Alastor nodded.

Sam said, "the trip was fun while it lasted…."

Alastor wraps an arm around Sam.

He said, "look on the bright side. At least we don't have to hide our relationship as much."

Sam smiled and said, "ever the optimist, eh my love?"

Alastor smiled and gave Sam a quick kiss on the lips. Sam smiled into the kiss.

Polly giggled and clapped at the sight.

She thoroughly approved of their relationship.

Sam and Alastor broke the kiss.

"Now I'm worried about my father", Sam said.

Alastor and Polly nodded.

"I sure hope…. He does accept our relationship", Sam said.

Alastor and Polly hugged Sam.

Sam smiled softly.

He said, "thank you both."

"Your welcome", Alastor and Polly said.

"Come on, let's pack everything up", Sam said.

Alastor and Polly nodded as they began packing up the campsite.

Soon the three finished and headed inside the shuttle.

They didn't speak as they saw Vader in the cockpit.

Sam could sense his father was too ashamed to speak to him after what happened last night.

So they began their trip back home in silence….

….

We see the group arrive on Coruscant.

They still remained quiet as they made their way out of the ship.

Lilith was waiting for them.

Lilith asked, "how did your trip go?"

Sam said, "it went okay…."

Lilith noticed Sam was not looking happy at all.

She asked, "is everything alright?"

"Not Really", Sam said.

Vader then stormed off.

Lilith looked at Alastor, hoping for an answer.

"Vader found out that I and Sam are boyfriends", Alastor said.

Lilith said, "oh dear…. And I'm guessing he didn't take it well?"

Polly said, "Sam's dad tried to strangle Alastor when he saw them kissing!"

Lilith had a look of horror on her face.

She asked, "how could he do something so vile?!"

"That's what I would like to know myself….", Sam said sadly.

Lilith hugged Sam and said, "oh, you poor thing."

Sam hugged Lilith back.

He whispered, "thank you."

Lilith smiled a little.

Alastor and Polly smiled.

….

We then see Vader in his office.

He kept mindlessly looking through files on his datapad.

A knock was then heard on the door.

Vader said, "enter."

Sam then entered his father's office.

Vader sighed and looked down at his files once more. He didn't dare meet his son's eyes.

"Father", Sam said.

Vader said, "yes?"

Sam asked, "I need you to be honest with me. Do you accept my relationship with Alastor?"

Vader sighed and said after a full minute, "if he makes you happy…. You may continue to see him…."

Sam then ran over to hug his father as tears were in his eyes.

Vader remained as still as a statue as Sam hugged him. He felt like he didn't deserve his son's love at that moment.

"Thank you dad", Sam sobbed in joy.

Vader nodded and said, "you're welcome."

Sam kept hugging his father for a while.

Soon, the hug ended, and Sam left in a better mood.

Vader beneath his mask, smiled a little.

If only a little.

….

"Alastor! Alastor", Sam shouted as he ran inside his room.

Alastor asked, "what is it?"

Sam jumped into Alastor's arms and said, "my dad says we can still date!"

Alastor's eyes went wide, before he smiled.

The two then shared a happy kiss.

Sam wrapped his legs around Alastor's waist.

Alastor wrapped his arms around Sam's body.

The two kept kissing one another.

They felt at peace in that moment.

The two were so happy that they didn't have to hide their relationship anymore.

It felt like a new chapter for them…..

….

But then, a year later, Sam would learn of the Empire's secret weapon….

….

We see a now 19 year old Sam walking to his father's office.

Just as Sam approached the office, he heard his father talking to someone.

Vader was saying, "remember Tarkin, this super weapon will strictly be about instilling respect. I want it used as little as possible."

Sam thought, 'weapon?'

He heard the man Vader called Tarkin say, "rest assured Lord Vader, only a small portion of project: Death Star will snuff out any more chances of rebellion. I am foreseeing the operation as we speak. In a few weeks, it will be completed."

Sam did not like the sound of this.

Sam thought, 'what is the Death Star?'

Vader said, "I know it will be a great tool. The ability to destroy a planet is a frightening one. But I do not want this space station to be used willy nilly!"

Sam covered his mouth in horror.

How could such a thing exist?!

And his father supported the idea of the weapon!

How could he?!

Sam felt tears in his eyes as he ran off.

'Sam.'

Sam stopped as he heard Revan's voice.

Sam whispered, "Revan?"

Revan said, 'you must go to Tatooine…. Find Obi Wan Kenobi….'

Sam asked, "Obi Wan Kenobi?"

Revan said, 'he will help lead you to not only stopping the Death Star…. But to your brother and sister….'

Sam whispered, "really?"

Revan said, 'yes. You must leave as soon as you can…. The galaxy needs you….'

Sam nods his head as he heads to his room.

It looks like he once again had to leave behind his father…. And while it did hurt…. This time, the whole galaxy needed him more than ever!

But he was going to leave his father a long message.

That, he was sure of.

When Sam got to his room, he packed all of his stuff.

That includes his clothes and such.

"I sure hope mom's clothes don't wear or tear in these bags", Sam whispered.

Next was the matter of leaving yet another message to his father.

And this time he was going to be more clear on why he left and that he will not come back home until the Empire is gone.

His father needed to know his reasoning. He deserved that much.

Sam sighed, this was so hard for him.

But it had to be done.

Sam then began to record the message for his father….

"Dad…. I know how hard this is…. Saying goodbye again…. But now more than ever, I know where I must be…. To hear of such a weapon the Empire has made…. The Death Star…. To destroy planets…. I cannot stand idly by when this kind of destruction exists! I love you…. But I must do this…. I must once again set off on a path the force has put me on…. But just know…. I'm sure the good in you will make itself known…. I believe in you…. And I love you so much, Dad…. Even after everything that has happened…. Goodbye Dad…. May the force be with you…."

Sam had tears in his eyes as finished recording the message.

Truly the hardest thing was always saying goodbye….
