Tony had finished the braces at quarter to nine. They were a lot more hidden and could be worn under clothing if the wearer wished, they also moved a lot smoother then the first design Tony had given Rhodey. Just when Tony stood back to admire his handy work, all the lights in the workshop automatically turned on, causing Tony to blink rapidly as he had been staring at holograms for a couple of hours.
"Fri, what's up?"
"Agent Romanov has entered the building, she wants to speak to you, I believe it is important." Tony swallowed and rubbed the back of his neck when a thought came into his head. He headed over to the door where a small metallic red box sat. Opening it carefully he took out an unamusing watch. Not the original, he had no idea where that had gone, and secured it to his wrist, with great difficulty. He swore out load,
"I'm getting this cast off as soon as possible," he muttered as the watch finally latched. He turned to look at the workshop. "Hey Fri, what's the best way to take a cast off at home?"
"Tin Snips boss, they will help you avoid injury," Okay sue him, but he didn't want to meet up with a super spy with only one working arm, he was still drugged when meeting Steve to really care, but now his survival instincts were telling him to not let anyone see his weaknesses, and if it really wasn't broken then it should be fine realistically
"Dum-E, U you guys up?" A low chirp came from the charging ports next to him and Tony looked to see Butterfingers' camera staring right at him, "Moring," he murmured giving the robot a pat, "Can you find the tin snips for me, buddy?" a few crashes and some whirring later, Butterfingers sat proudly in front of him holding the Snips. "Tell Agent Romanov I'll be there in a moment,"
"Right away boss," Tony made quick work of the cast, and pulled on an old jacket as he felt slightly unprotected in just a t-shirt as well as installing a small earpiece in his ear, it was always good to have access to Friday without anyone else hearing what she said. Inspecting his arm, he judged that it looked fine, and he felt no pain at all when moving it, they really must have made a mistake then, huh.
He took a couple deep breaths to calm himself. So what if he went through an entire year of barely remembered pain and fear, he wasn't going to let any spy get a read on him. He was Tony Fucking Stark. He'd had masks in place since he was five. As soon as he was sure that nothing was being shown on his face, he stepped inside the elevator. He didn't have to say anything for Friday to immediately start the elevator, heading for the ground floor.
He didn't think he'd seen Natasha yet. Or maybe he had, as he thought, every memory from between getting the metal plate inserted into his brain and taking it out was blurry and half there, so Maybe he'd seen her when they came to… rescue him. Actually the only one he'd remembered seeing properly was Rogers and wasn't that fantastic.
"Agent Romanov, how can I help you," he asked, approaching her. She stood at the edge of the Towers lobby, clearly watching anyone who entered or exited.
"Trust me Stark, we wouldn't have contacted you unless it was absolutely necessary, but we have a delicate situation where you're needed,"
"I always thought I was supposed to stay away from delicate situations," he quipped, glancing down at his repulsor watch. A wave of blue light waved through it. Friday had gotten access to the compound. Great, now he didn't have to deal with Natasha expertly avoiding the point. He innocently reached up to scratch his ear, tapping the piece twice and sighed. Natasha simply ignored him, still looking out at the people so hopefully she hadn't noticed, though knowing her she had.
"We need your tech. What SHEILD has won't work with what we need and so I've come to you," Tony raised an eyebrow,
"You've come to me. So the others don't know."
"Rhodes does, he suggested it, but he couldn't get away. Everyone else is determined to leave you out of this." Tony had come up expecting to get a jab at his ego but now he was just confused.
"What is this, some sort of olive branch,"
"No, you are simply the most obvious answer to an issue and the others are letting their feelings get in the way to resolve it," Ah, there was the super spy he knew and…. well, knew.
"It appears a ship full of sentients crashed at the avengers compound this morning, one of the individuals is identified as Loki," Friday said, voice low. Tony was going to have to talk to her about why she didn't tell him immediately. Once he got over the panic,
"Loki's back?" he hissed at the spy. If she was surprised, she didn't show it. She nodded slightly,
"Clint's to compromised so tell us the information to confirm what they're saying and all the footage of Loki from SHIELD was lost during the data dump, you're the only one with the footage from the Tower to confirm."
"Confirm what?"
"We've already said to much, we'll brief you about the rest when you get to the compound." With that she turned and walked away, Tony was seriously tempted to just walk in the opposite direction, but this was unfortunately important. He followed her grumbling under his breath about how he'd just escaped the compound and now he had to go back.
"Fri, be prepared to bring up every video of when Loki was in the Tower," he mumbled quietly, walking quicker to catch up with the red head and keeping an eye out on his surroundings.
"It will be done, Boss,"
"Thanks Fri," a simple black car was pulled up down the pavement from the Tower. To most it would look unassuming but to Tony he could clearly see that it was either a Government thing or a relic from what was left of SHIELD. He was proven right when Natasha paused by the car and looked back at him expectantly, almost as if she thought he was about to do a runner. Considering how Tony felt being faced by a car with tinted windows and the prospect of an avenger's reunion, it wasn't too far from the truth. He begrudgingly slid into the back of the car, not interested in being tackled by a spy so early in the day. Natasha sat in the back too, probably supposed to be a display of trust, but it just felt like Tony was being boxed in. It was going to be an uncomfortable trip.
