Volume 4:
Chapter 11: Trench Run
Back on Yavin IV, pilots were getting ready for the assault on the Death Star!
Luke and Ahsoka were going to help in the fight as well.
Both would be piloting X-Wing's.
Luke planned on having R2 helping him in the battle.
Sam was there to wish his family luck.
Especially since they were gonna need it.
Sam hugged his adopted mother.
He said, "may the force be with you, mom."
Ahsoka smiled softly as she hugged her adopted son back.
She said, "and may it be with you, my son."
Sam went over to hug Luke.
He said, "stay safe up there, brother."
"I will", Luke said.
And with that, Luke went off towards his X-Wing.
Ahsoka then got into her X-Wing.
As did the other pilots.
Sam then walked off to the side, as he saw the X-Wings about to take off.
He closed his eyes, silently wishing for their safe return.
"It's okay, Sam, I'm sure they'll be okay", Alastor said.
Sam said, "I hope so."
"Like Ahsoka said, trust in the force", Polly said.
Sam nodded and said, "haven't I always."
Alastor hugged Sam close to him.
Sam smiled into the hug.
….
We then see the X-Wings in space.
They all began to check in.
"All wings report in", Red Leader said.
One of the Rebel fighters checks in through his mike.
"Red Ten standing by", Red Ten said.
Biggs checks his fighter's controls, alert and ready for combat.
"Red Seven standing by."
"Red Three standing by", Biggs said.
"Red four standing by."
Luke checked his shields and said, "Red Five, standing by."
Ahsoka checked her systems and said, "Red Six, standing by."
"Lock S-foils in attack position", Red Leader said.
Everyone in the squad began to do so.
The group of X-wing fighters move in formation toward the Death Star, unfolding the wings and locking them in the "X" position.
"We're passing through their magnetic field", Red Leader said over the headset.
Luke adjusts his controls as he concentrates on the approaching Death Star. The ship begins to be buffeted slightly.
Ahsoka is muttering, "I'm one with the force, and the force is with me. I'm one with the force, and the force is with me."
"Switch your deflectors on", Red Leader said.
The group did as instructed.
The fighters, now X-shaped darts, move in formation. The Death Star now appears to be a small moon growing rapidly in size as the Rebel fighters approach. Complex patterns on the metallic surface begin to become visible. A large dish antenna is built into the surface on one side.
Wedge is amazed and slightly frightened at the awesome spectacle.
"Look at the size of that thing", Wedge said.
"Cut the chatter, Red Two", Red Leader said.
Ahsoka said, "listen to Red Leader, boy's. This is a do or die mission, and I ain't letting any of us die before that thing is gone."
The fighters move closer to the Death Star, the awesome size of the gargantuan Imperial fortress is revealed. Half of the deadly space station is in shadow and this area sparkles with thousands of small lights running in thin lines and occasionally grouped in large clusters, somewhat like a city at night as seen from a weather satellite.
Ahsoka muttered, "this is where the fun begins…."
"Red Leader, this is Gold Leader", Gold Leader said.
"I copy, Gold Leader", Red Leader said.
"We're starting for the target shaft now", Gold Leader said.
Red Leader said, "copy that."
R2 began to beep nervously as Luke said, "easy, Artoo. We'll get through this."
Two squads of Rebel fighters peel off. The X-Wings dive towards the Death Star surface. A thousand lights glow across the dark gray expanse of the huge station.
….
Inside the Death Star….
Alarm sirens scream as soldiers scramble to large turbo- powered laser gun emplacements. Electronic drivers rotate the huge guns into position as crew adjust their targeting devices.
Vader was skulking down the hallway as scouts ran around him left and right.
….
Outside….
We then see Laser bolts streak through the star-filled night. The Rebel X-Wing fighters move in toward the Imperial base, as the Death Star aims its massive laser guns at the Rebel forces and fires.
Ahsoka called to the others, "evasive maneuvers!"
"Understood!"

Back on Yavin IV….
We see Sam with the others in the war room.
Alastor said, "the battle has officially begun, it seems."
"May the force be with them all", Sam said.
Polly nodded.
….
Back in space….
X-wings continue in their attack course on the Death Star.
Luke nosedives radically, starting his attack on the monstrous fortress. The Death Star surface streaks past the cockpit window.
"This is Red Five; I'm going in", Luke said.
Ahsoka replied, "copy that Red Five. I'll cover ya!"
Luke's X-wing races toward the Death Star. Laser bolts streak from Luke's weapons, creating a huge fireball explosion on the dim surface.
Terror crosses Luke's face as he realizes he won't be able to pull out in time to avoid the fireball.
"Luke, pull up", Biggs shouted over the comlink.
Luke's ship emerges from the fireball, with the leading edges of his wings slightly scorched.
R2 screams in fright as Ahsoka yells, "you okay, kid?!"
"I got a little cooked, but I'm okay", Luke said.
Ahsoka said, "good to know. Be careful."
"We've got company", Wedge said.
Luke and Ahsoka both thought, 'oh great!'
TIE Fighters were then seen flying after the X-Wings!
Ahsoka said, "everybody watch their tails! The Empire ain't going down without a fight!"
The TIE fighters then began firing at the X-Wings.
Ahsoka yelled, "just like the clone wars!"
Ahsoka sees a TIE fighter after Luke and she quickly fires at the TIE fighter.
She managed to hit the engines and made it skyrocket into the station!
Luke yelled, "thanks Red Six!"
"No problem, Red Five", Ahsoka said.
….
On Yavin IV.
Sam and the others are listening to the Rebel Fighter's radio transmissions over the war room intercom.
Sam said, "alright mom!"
"Good job honey", Hunter said.
Polly and Alastor clapped.
….
Back in Space….
The X-Wings and TIE Fighters continued their battle among the station!
A few X-Wings had already been shot down.
Luke was already heading to where the exhaust port is.
Ahsoka and Wedge were right behind him.
Two Tie Fighters fired at Ahsoka and Wedge.
Ahsoka yelled, "son of a Rancor! They're on my tail!"
"I'm hit! I can't stay with you", Wedge said.
Luke yelled, "you two get to safety! I'll take care of these guys!"
"No, Luke, you can't do this on your own", Ahsoka shouted.
Luke yelled, "I don't want Sam to lose you! I'll be fine!"
Ahsoka sighed as she said, "may the Force Be with you."
Wedge and Ahsoka quickly began to fly away as Luke grew closer to the exhaust port!
"Use the Force, Luke."
Luke gasped when he heard that voice.
Obi Wan!
"Let go Luke", Obi Wan's voice said.
Luke closed his eyes for a moment before opening his eyes with a fierce look and deactivated the targeting system!
….
Back on Yavin IV….
"His computer's off. Luke, you switched off your targeting computer. What's wrong?"
Sam could sense it.
His brother had a plan.
….
Back in space….
"The force is strong with this one", Vader said.
His TIE was flying after Luke's ship, along with two others!
R2 then let out a scream as he was hit.
The scream would've translated to, "AH! KRIFF YOU, YA SON OF A BITCH!"
This was before they shut off!
Luke yelled, "I just lost Artoo!"
The three TIE Fighters approach Luke.
One of the TIE's is hit and explodes into flame. The two remaining ships continue to move in.
Vader asked, "what?!"
We see the Falcon fly by as Han yells, "YAHOO!"
Eda and King were sitting on the couch as she said, "look at this. Look at how much more comfortable we are saving the day."
"Look out", the scout piloting the other TIE shouted.
Vader's wingman panics at the sight of the oncoming pirate starship and veers radically to one side, colliding with Vader's TIE fighter in the process. Vader's wingman crashes into the sidewall of the trench and explodes. Vader's damaged ship spins out of the trench with a damaged wing.
Han said, "you're all clear, kid! Now let's blow this thing so we can all go home!"
Luke looks up and smiles. He concentrates on the exhaust port, then fires his laser torpedoes.
Luke's torpedoes shoot toward the port and seem to simply disappear into the surface and not explode. But the shots do find their mark and have gone into the exhaust port and are heading for the main reactor.
Luke throws his head back in relief.
He begins flying toward the Falcon and surviving X-Wing's!
….
Tarkin held a look of dread as he stared at the planet below….
….
The Death Star bursts into a supernova, creating a spectacular heavenly display.
The rebels' ships fly away as fast as they can!
Luke hears Obi Wan say, "remember…. The force will be with you…. Always."
Vader saw when the Death Star exploded.
He sighed in some sort of relief.
He was honestly glad the station was gone.
It had made him lose his son yet again.
"Until we meet again my son….", Vader whispered.
Vader flew his ship towards the nearest Imperial outpost.
….
On Yavin IV….
The Falcon and X-Wing's all landed at the base.
Luke climbs out of his X-Wing and is cheered on by everyone in the base.
Leia runs forward and hugs Luke, yelling, "Luke!"
"I did it! I did it", Luke said in joy.
Sam ran to Luke yelling, "that's my brother! You did it!"
Sam then gave Luke a hug.
Ahsoka and Hunter had run to one another, with Jesse in Hunter's arms.
Han then ran to Luke, Leia and Sam!
"I knew you'd come back! I just knew it", Luke said.
"Well, I wasn't gonna let you get all the credit and take all the reward", Han said.
Leia said, "I bet that was worth more to you than money?"
Han smirked and said, "maybe."
That's when everyone gasped as R2 was brought down, burns and scratches all over him.
"Oh, my! Artoo! Can you hear me? Say something", C3-P0 said.
Sam yelled, "mechanics, fix this droid up!"
"We'll get to work on him right away", one of the Mechanics said.
C3-P0 looked at Luke in worry.
"He'll be alright", Luke said.
C3-P0 said, "you must help him sir. If any of my circuits or parts will help, I'll gladly donate them."
"It's all going to be okay Threepio", Luke said as he began leading the worried droid to where R2 was being taken to for repairs.
"Artoo is much stronger than he seems, I've seen him survive many dangerous things", Ahsoka said.
Sam said, "good to know. Now, what's next for us?"
….
A few minutes later….
An awards ceremony was being held for the heroes who had destroyed the Death Star.
Sam was standing next to Alastor and his adopted Family, except for Ahsoka.
He was dressed in an elegant white shirt and pants with a gray cape and boots.
Polly was being held by Alastor.
Jesse was being held by Hunter.
King was Eda's shoulder.
All of the rebel soldiers were standing at attention as some large doors at the end of the room opened up.
We then see Luke, Han and Chewie.
Luke now had a yellow jacket, a white shirt and brown pants.
Han and Chewie were a little more cleaned up, but still looked mostly the same.
Absoka was in her garb she wore when sje was on the planet Mandalore.
Luke and the others solemnly march up the long aisle.
Leia stood at the end of the aisle in an elegant white dress.
Luke, Ahsoka, Han and Chewie kneel before Leia.
Leia smiled as a rebel brought over a pillow with four medals sitting atop them.
Leia places a gold medallion around Han's neck.
As Han rose to his feet, he smirked and winked at Leia.
Leia lightly chuckles and she then puts a gold medallion around Luke's neck.
Luke smiled brightly at Leia.
Leia then placed the third medallion on Ahsoka's neck, who smiled and nodded.
Leia then puts the last gold medallion around Chewie's neck.
Chewie gave a happy growl.
Luke then turns to see C3-P0 standing there with the others, and smiles brightly as R2 hobbles over.
The four heroes then turned to the cheering crowd.
Sam smiled as he felt so proud of his little brother and his adopted mother.
The entire area went into thunderous applause.
Polly whistled and clapped.
Sam gave a fist pump.
Eda and King clapped their hands.
Jesse giggled as Hunter clapped and Ahsoka smiled at her husband.
Luke, Ahsoka, Han and Chewie all kept smiling.
This was truly an amazing victory for the Rebellion!
And if they kept this up, then the Empire would soon be gone.
And the galaxy would be free once more!
….
Later….
The rebels knew they had to find another planet to establish a base, as the Empire would soon come for them.
Ahsoka, with a little help from R2, pinpointed a new location for the rebels to hide in the Outer Rim.
After that, it took nearly an entire day to pack up everything and have it ready to set off.
But once that was done, and the ships had all left the planet with their supplies in tow, they all took off into lightspeed, hoping to have a headstart on the Empire….
