Tony had been right. Sometimes he really hated being right. Rogers had kicked up a fuss as soon as Tony had shown his face, completely forgetting to actually tell him about their decision on Loki. Tony was going to have to watch it himself anyway. Instead he had dragged Tony to the kitchen where the group was occupying, all either eating something or simply relaxing on the couches. Rogers had proceeded to blow up at him, saying he couldn't make decisions without telling the team and that he had no right simply letting them out of his cell. Tony felt his own anger rising up, determined to pull Rogers down a couple pegs, but refused to stoop to Rodger's level,
"It seems you have forgotten that I am no longer part of this team and since I own the entire compound you cannot say a single thing about what I can and cannot do. In fact, almost everything you own, your weapons, your outfits were designed by me and manufactured by SI and my own hands meaning I can take them away from you, So Rogers, it would be appreciated if you stopped your childish tantrum to tell me about your decision on Loki," Rogers immediately closed his mouth, his face burning red,
"It looks like Loki was brainwashed during the invasion," he ground out,
"Excellent, now was that too hard?"
"Wow, what a dick," whispered the Raccoon not to quietly to Quill. Rodger's gaze settled on the Raccoon and looked like he was going to say something, instead, Barnes β who had been standing and watching β grabbed Rogers' arm and pulled him back,
"Com'on Stevie lets go spar," the two left the room.
"Thor, Bruce, you two can let Loki out," stated Natasha, who was leaning against the door frame.
"Great, since you're gonna be stuck here for a while, I guess introductions are in order." Quill β who appeared to be the head of the group, pointed at everyone,
"Rocket (the Raccoon), Nebula (cyborg), Drax (topless guy), Groot (tree), Gamora (green one) and Peter Quill, you can call us the Guardians I guess," he ended, there was clearly a story behind that, but Tony simply nodded, filing all their names away. He knew that Friday was doing the same. Tony turned back to Natasha,
"Since it appears that everything is under control, I'll head back to the tower, I have things I need to do," just then, Rhodey entered the room, seeming slightly taken aback by the Guardian's presence, before his eyes settled on Tony.
"Ah, Rhodey excellent timing. If you're not busy, I've got something to show you at the Tower." Rhodey opened his mouth but simply nodded,
"Sure I'm not busy," leaving behind the chaos, Tony followed Rhodey to the garage that sat on the edge of the compound. "I wasn't expecting to see you here, like at all. What's going on," Tony shrugged,
"They needed my help, surprise surprise, I let the Guardians out," Rhodey gave him a questioning glance, "the people with Loki, since there was no reason to hold them, Loki is apparently innocent so he'll be allowed to wonder around the compound to an extent until we decide what to do with him and the guy actually behind the invasion was a twisted Titan or something who knows my name which is terrifying," Rhodey just shook his head,
"Only you Tones," there was a smile in his voice and Tony felt warmer. When they got to the garage Tony automatically went to one of the cars, he knew belonged to him, which automatically opened when he got nearby. God, he loved Friday. Rhodey looked slightly sceptical at that, "are you sure you should be driving Tones, wasn't your arm broken?" Tony shrugged and slid into the car, Rhodey following slower,
"They must have made a mistake, Fri said it was fine and as you can see it's fine," Rhodey just accepted that, even though he had seen Tony's arm and knew that it had been broken.
"Tony, you've been back for like only a day or something, shouldn't you be resting,"
"I'm good, anyway there too much stuff I have to get done,"
"Make sure you take care of yourself," warned Rhodey
"Always Platypus."
With Tony's slightly reckless driving and the fact that the tower wasn't to far from the compound, they reached the tower very quickly. Tony pulled the car into the garage which was at the ground level and he and Rhodey travelled in the evaluator to the workshop.
"Seriously Tones? You haven't been up to your rooms yet, have you?"
"I'll have you know I have a perfectly good bed and coffee machine down here,"
"Right so you haven't eaten yet. Fri?"
"Yes Coronel?"
"Order some burgers please,"
"Of course," Tony sent Rhodey a disapproving gaze, but the elevator stopped before he could say anything, and he was immediately surrounded by indigent bots,
"Whoa, whoa guys bit of space, what's got you lot so riled up?" the bots gave them enough room to leave the elevator, however Dum-E kept a firm hold on Tony's jacket. They all let out sad trills and beeps, Tony got the gist of it and patted Butterfingers arm, "Hey, I wasn't leaving again, I just had to do something, sorry I should have told you," Trust the bots to think like that. That was when U noticed Rhodey standing slightly behind Tony with a small mile on his face. U's beeps changed from sad to excited as he drove up to Rhodey and poked him with his arm before Rhodey gave in a stoked U's arm,
"Hi guys, I've missed you lot" it seems they had missed Rhodey as well, especially Dum-E who was the oldest and knew Rhodey best. Tony knew all the bots saw Rhodey like an uncle as he was there when most of them had been born. After they had given the bots enough attention, Tony dragged Rhodey over to the Braces that sat waiting. Rhodey froze and sent Tony a sad look,
"Tones- "
"Yeah, I know I didn't have to but I see how stiff your other ones were, and I had so many ideas of how to make then better and"
"Breath Tony," Tony took a deep breath and saw the genuine joy in Rhodey's eyes, "I'm glad you still like building things," Tony sent him a sheepish smile. Sure, there friendship wasn't the same as it had been but to see Rhodey but in so much effort made Tony glad he decided to give his friend a chance. Rhodey with small assistance from Tony slipped out of his old braces and secured the new ones on. Tony was obviously a genius, but these were amazing, unlike the other ones which were noticeable from where they secured around his waist, and how it was difficult to sometimes get the legs to do what he wanted, these new ones where almost like he never became paralysed in the first place. His friend was amazing,
"Tony," he breathed, walking around the workshop as one might when they try on knew shoes, Tony smiled at him, the same smile he got when his projects worked, especially when these projects helped rather than harmed.
"I was thinking of also improving Branes' arm if he let me, also I was thinking about mass producing them. I would talk to some Doctors beforehand but if SI mass produced affordable prosthetics and such, we could help so many people,"
"That's amazing Tony,"
"I was planning to go round to SI and talk to er⦠Williams about everything and see if I can get the board to agree," Rhodey grinned and opened his arms slightly, asking for permission. Tony matched the grin and pulled his friend into a hug. It was always well and good to have the bots and Fri, but it was always nice to have Rhodey on his side. Friday's voice interrupted the peaceful moment between the two friends, to her credit she sounded apologetic,
"You have a call from DR. Cho and an emergency call from DR. Banner," Tony pulled away from Rhodey and frowned,
"Bruce first," the call connected, and Bruce's voice swept through the workshop,
"Hey Tony, sorry for calling you after you just left but...er we have and issue. Loki has been talking to us, and the Guardians are all saying that Thanos is up to something. They don't want to keep talking without your presence. Apparently, they like you more than Steve," Bruce's voice held wary humour, not disagreeing.
"Do we have to come or can we stay,"
"I don't know," Tony thought about it,
"Hey Fri, where are they?"
"They are all currently still situated in the Kitchen,"
"Right," Tony turned to his desk and pressed his hand to it, a blank blue screen appeared over the desk, before blinking and showing the live feed from the Kitchen at the compound, "mimic this Fri,"
"Tony?" asked Bruce, confusion in his voice, Tony smirked as he saw Bruce staring at him over the hologram, ear still to the phone. Tony waved his phone and the call disconnected, Which left them looking at the Guardians and Avengers while they could see Tony and Rhodey standing in the Workshop. Rhodey just shook his head, not surprised by his friend's antics.
"I heard you wanted to talk?"
