"Stark, I hope you have a good reason for interrupting my lunch," asked Fury, apparently not in the least surprised that Tony had found his new privet number. Tony was actually disappointed. What was the point of being a genius when you didn't impress the unimpressible?
"We have a problem,"
"Of course we do, you haven't been back for three days yet and now there's a problem," ignoring the jab, he went into detail about the infinity stones and Thanos. Expertly not mentioning that he had a wanted God drinking all his alcohol in the Tower (well he wasn't going to drink it, three years sober baby!). He revelled in the silent shock from the other end of the line, while he let Fury digest that, he got a syringe ready. The syringe was filled with an opaque liquid, which when released into his blood stream, would eventually lead to his brain, making the nanotech armour work on the same wavelength as him mind. Very complicated sciency stuff was involved, but luckily as Tony said, he is a genius. "If you want to alert the other governments you will have to be present. Some evidence will be needed," Tony sighed, so much work. He just wanted to be able to rest, move SI in a more medical and helpful direction then maybe retire. He was only 47 but he had done a lot in his lifetime.
"If I am to do that, I'll have to organise a press conference to show everyone that I'm still alive." The word press conference left an ashy taste in his mouth, he hated those things.
"We will also have to alert every hero across the globe to stand by. If what you are planning and Thanos launches an invasion on Earth we need every country to be prepared,"
"I agree. I'll send you the notes that you should give to the UN. Don't mention that we are planning to find the stones. There are to many people in the world who would want to get their hands on them, but say we have evidence that there may be another invasion, keep it quiet to avoid an uproar and we'll work from there,"
"We can manage that,"
"Excellent," Tony hung up without another word, watching as the bar for the nanotech progress reached completion. Tony picked up the object, hands shaking slightly. If this succeeded, it might be the most amazing thing he's ever created, other than the AIs that is, they were his babies after all. Reverently, he placed the arc shaped holder onto his shirt. With a thought, the case adhered to his t-shirt, it wouldn't come off unless he instructed it to do so. With a thought, he told the nanotech to form into his suit. He stood as he felt the nanos travel across his body, the helmet the last to come up, the display lighting up as if it was one of his older models. Holy shit this was so cool. "Friday, I'm awesome,"
"Of course you are Boss," Tony frowned, even as he continued to admire his suit,
"Is that sarcasm I hear?"
"I wouldn't dream of it, Boss," He wouldn't try flying it yet. The Workshop wasn't big enough for that. He looked down at his left gauntlet, he wanted to see his hand. In seconds the nanos retracted, leaving his hand bare.
"Huh," he said, unable to say anything else. "Fri, copy the casing for the nanos, but design it as two bracelets,"
"Yes Boss," while the gauntlet watch was impressive, if he used the nanos, it would be more practical. "Boss, Dr. Cho is calling again," crap, he'd forgotten that Helen had tried to call him,
"Right, yeah, put her through,"
"Mr Stark,"
"Dr. Cho, how can I help you?"
"You're results for your blood test have come through, and they are… unusual. It would explain how you felt no pain in your arm and how quickly you healed after the surgery, if you wish, I can send you the results,"
"Yes, please," That… was not what Tony was expecting. What exactly was unusual in his blood. It was the nano binding serum as he hadn't injected that yet. A ping from his phone over on a work bench made move over to it, opening the folder that Helen had sent to him. He almost dropped the phone. No way. He recognised the DNA sequence, both from his childhood and Howard's collection he had inherited. It was what happened when your DNA bonded with Super Solider Serum. It was a slightly different variation but Super Solider Serum not less.
"I cross referenced it with Rogers and Barnes' blood, it seems that you only received the accelerated healing factor,"
"Wow, okay," Tony sat down heavily in a chair, "Thank you, Helen,"
"You're Welcome. I'm sorry for simply throwing this at you, but I have to get back to work,"
"No problem," The call disconnected, and the Workshop descended into silence. Tony ran shaking hands over his face, trying his hardest to take steadying breaths. He wasn't sure why this made his heart pick up, but the thought that Hydra had done something so… irreversible… made him want to vomit. He couldn't undo. It didn't matter if it was at the end of the day more useful, it was the fact that they had changed his fucking DNA without his approval. He bent over, resting his forehead against his knees, fighting for air now.
"Boss, if you don't slow your breathing, you will pass out," Friday's voice was filled with concern, but to Tony it sounded like he was under water. With great difficulty he forced his mind of the topic, counting slowly in his mind.

Oh god, he couldn't do this. He felt the nano particles begin to form around him. Trying to protect him. They couldn't.

There his breathing was slowing down. The helmet began to cover his head but left his face bare.

That wasn't in his head. It was coming from his suit. Friday quietly counting right by his ear. He matched his breathing to Fridays counting.

He took one more shaky breath, breaking out of his semi panic attack. Thankfully he didn't spiral too far. That never ended well.
"Thanks, Fri," he gasped, sitting back up. The suit retracted, realising there was no danger. He couldn't dwell on that. When this was all over, when the earth was safe, he could think about the implications of this. Instead, he had a press conference to arrange. He got up and pulled on a game face. Hiding away all his panic in the furthest recess of his mind. "Fri, I need you to book a venue, sends notes to every newspaper. It's time to come back for real."
"Is that a good idea Boss? You should at least speak to the Coronel,"
"I don't need to bother Rhodey, anyway it's not important,"
"…Very well Boss," Tony ignored the hesitation and wandered back over to his elevator, if he was having a conference, he needed to look a bit better than this. He ran his hand over the new arc. Under a suit jacket it would be almost invisible. Good, that was necessary.
The trip to the penthouse was quick, just as he liked it. He wandered into his bedroom, and walked straight into the un suite, glancing in the mirror he wrinkled his nose. People were letting him out looking like this? He needed a good shower, that's what he needed. Shower, suit, conference, meeting with the UN? What else? Tony shook his head; he didn't need anything else on his plate. He placed the arc on the side and ran a hand through his simply grimy hair. Shower first. Think of nothing after that. Wash the last remains of Hydra off him (it will never come off him, not now it's in him) and prepare to be Tony Stark again. Yay.
