Personal Reasons
A train had just left the Narita Station and was making its way to the Tokyo Settlement. In the train, Lelouch and Shirley were sitting together while CC sat on the other side. After the ordeal with Mao and with Lelouch's help, Shirley was able to gradually calm down. The whole thing was traumatic to her but Lelouch was able to help her get through it. Lelouch was angry when he thought about Mao and at that moment, he had one thing in mind and that was to make sure Mao suffered for what he did to Shirley. Lelouch swore to himself that he would make Mao regret that the decision of targeting him and Shirley.
Port Yokosuka
The sun was setting in Area 11 and Rai was in the port and looked out in the sea. He thought about the battle that took place here and thought about how they succeeded in the main objective and the fact that they crippled Cornelia's forces again and that he took down the two Knightmare Frames that were piloted by Guilford and Darlton.
"We succeeded in what we set out to do here," Rai said in his head, "although it wasn't easy…not with Nonette Enneagram and Suzaku in the fold."
Rai sighed and admired the sunset.
"It is nice to look at the sunset," Rai said.
Flashback: Three Years Ago
Rai was sitting on the ground wearing a white sweater and black pants with black sneakers. He had just arrived on from a boat and Lelouch and Nunnally were with them who was also wearing their own casual clothes.
"What is this place?" Rai asked.
"This is Yokosuka," Lelouch said.
"Well, anything that seems familiar to you?" Nunnally asked.
Rai looked and he sad shook his head.
"No, nothing is coming to me," Rai said.
"It's okay," Lelouch said, "just take your time."
"That's right," A female voice said.
They looked over and saw Milly and her grandfather Reuben approaching them.
"Eventually you'll remember," Milly said.
"I hope so," Rai said.
"So you don't remember anything except your name," Reuben said, "is that right?"
"Yeah and the fact that I'm half Britannian, half Japanese," Rai said.
"So you don't know how you ended up in that ruin on Kamine Island," Lelouch asked.
"Just what was that place anyway?" Nunnally asked.
"Sorry, I really don't know," Rai said.
"Well don't worry about it," Lelouch said, "I'm sure we'll be able find your lost memories and maybe we'll find out about that strange ruins in the cavern of Kamine Island."
"Thank you," Rai said.
Flashback End
Rai sighed as he looked at the sunset.
"It's been three years since then and I'm still nowhere close in recovering my lost memories," Rai said, "still it's not all bad. The three years have been pleasant for me. I've made friends. I have people I care about and even..."
Rai thought about the time he met Euphemia and he smiled.
"I hope to see her again," Rai said, "I want to really get to know her…Lelouch and Nunnally's half-sister Euphemia."
Old Tokyo Tower
"Alice, you're my best friend," Nunnally said and got in front of Alice, "and I'm not going to abandon my best friend."
"N-Nunnally…" Alice spoke again.
Sancia, Lucretia, and Dalque saw what was happening and they shook their heads.
"Oh dear," Sancia said with a sigh, "truth be told, I figured this would happen. We still don't have any quarrel with you Nunnally vi Britannia and we could care less about what your father the emperor wants or what VV wants for that matter."
"Yeah but since it's obvious that you no intention of backing away from Alice," Dalque said as she activated her Geass, "unfortunately you've just tied our hands."
"This is sad," Lucretia said with a sad expression as she activated her Geass, "I am sad about this."
"It really isn't worth it," Sancia said as she activated her Geass, "but we have our orders and we have orders to deal with those who would obstruct our mission."
On the other side, someone was watching and took a step. The person threw a smoke bomb at Sancia, Lucretia, and Dalque and caught the three off guard and it surprised Alice and Nunnally.
"Is this…?" Nunnally spoke.
"Lady Nunnally, Lady Alice," Sayoko's voice spoke.
"Sayoko, is that you?" Nunnally asked.
"Yes," Sayoko said as she appeared before Nunnally and Alice.
"Sayoko," Alice said.
"Please, follow me," Sayoko requested.
"Hey, I see them!" Dalque said.
"Let's go," Nunnally said.
"Sayoko led Nunnally and Alice away and Dalque barely saw them and directed Sancia and Lucretia to where the three where.
"Who is that woman?" Lucretia asked.
"She must be one of their allies," Sancia said.
Later on, Sayoko, Nunnally, and Alice looked around and didn't see the former agent nor did they see the former Britannian princess or the woman that had just helped them. They went on to look for Alice and they didn't see them hide. They three came out of hiding and heading to the exit out of the tower. It was there they met up with Jinta.
"Looks like you made it," Jinta said.
"Yes, I did," Sayoko said.
"Jinta, why are you here?" Nunnally asked.
"We can talk about that later," Jinta said, "you three get going…I'll keep those three agents busy."
"Jinta," Alice said.
"Very well, we'll leave it to you," Sayoko said with a nod.
"Of course," Jinta said with a nod.
"Okay, just please be careful," Nunnally said.
"Don't worry, I'll be fine," Jinta assured.
Nunnally, Alice, and Sayoko made their way and then Sancia, Lucretia, and Dalque arrived and they were facing Jinta.
"You…" Lucretia said.
"Hello ladies," Jinta said, "unfortunately for you three, I'm here to get in your way. You will not be taking our precious ally and friend."
"So, we'll have to go through you first to get to Alice," Sancia said.
"That's assuming if you can," Jinta said.
"Sancia, why weren't we informed about Jinta Kuromaki?" Dalque asked.
"I don't know," Sancia answered, "but we're going to have to ask the colonel."
"If he bothers to give us straight answers," Lucretia commented.
Area 11 Viceroy Palace
Villetta and Jeremiah were walking through the hall and Villetta was visibly upset.
"Lord Jeremiah, it's like you sold me out," Villetta said.
"I did no such thing Villetta," Jeremiah calmly responded, "you're suffering disgrace due to your own actions, you know that."
Villetta stopped and was shaking.
"Lord Jeremiah, you know that when you were disgraced by Zero, I defended you and still had faith you," Villetta pointed out, "do I not have get the same thing from you with what's going on? Have you forgotten that stood by you even after this Orange thing?"
"I haven't forgotten," Jeremiah said as he stopped and faced Villetta, "I am grateful to you for what you've done and sticking up to me. You've helped me in Shinjuku when Kewell and the others were attempting to kill me. However though, I cannot ignore what you had decided to do with Madd back in Yokosuka. Had you done what you should have done, we would have been rewarded and would have been back in good grace. You knew that and yet you blew it by ignoring orders and went after Zero."
Villetta looked away from Jeremiah's gaze and clenched her teeth.
"I'm unable to understand why you did what you did," Jeremiah continued, "Are you really not working with Madd?"
"I'm not!" Villetta responded upset.
"Then why did you let him go?!" Jeremiah asked upset.
Villetta frowned and shook her head.
"Answer me!" Jeremiah said losing patience, "Why did let that weasel go? The same weasel who is involved in that illegal project that Bartley and Prince Clovis was part of? Look at me Villetta Nu!"
Villetta hesitantly looked at Jeremiah.
Area 11 Airport
Jarvis arrived in the airport and was wearing a blue shirt, brown slacks, black shoes, brown belt and wore a black overcoat with rolled up sleeves. He was carrying a long red bag.
"So here I am," Jarvis said, "in Area 11 and all just to pick up Madd and all those research guys."
Jarvis's cell phone rang from his pocket and he picked it up and looked at the caller ID and then he answered.
"VV," Jarvis said.
"I take it that you arrived in Area 11," VV said on the other line.
"I have and I'll begin to retrieve Madd and those other guys," Jarvis said.
"Of course, doing work for the emperor," VV said, "By the way Jarvis, I have a favor to ask."
"No," Jarvis immediately replied.
"What do you mean no?" VV replied back surprised, "I haven't even told you what I want."
"You want me to do something regarding Former Prince Lelouch and Former Princess Nunnally," Jarvis said, "I won't do it."
"…Why not?" VV asked.
"Because His Majesty has given me no orders to do anything regarding those two," Jarvis said, "if he hasn't told me to do anything about those two, then they're not my concern."
"You do know that those two are now rebellion against Britannia undermining Britannia's rule in Area 11," VV said.
"I'm aware and I know that the emperor knows as well," Jarvis said, "but if he hasn't told me to do anything about them, then it's not my job to do so. Besides, he's already has Nonette Enneagram on it plus Princess Cornelia is in charge of Area 11. It's her job to handle the situation with Zero and the Black Knights."
"You could help him by getting involved," VV insisted, "besides, wouldn't like it if the emperor praised you for doing extra?"
"I would indeed but he gave me orders to follow exactly and if hasn't told me to do anything about them then that means those two are still not too much of a concern for him and things are still fine," Jarvis said, "pretty sure your major project whatever it is that you're doing is not threatened by them in any way."
"Jarvis, you need to listen to me," VV said in a demanding tone.
"No, you need to understand something VV," Jarvis interjected strongly, "I'm a Knight of the Round and that means that I only answer to the emperor himself. Now if the emperor was order me to do the things that you're asking, I'd do it in a heartbeat but he hasn't and that makes it not my concern. The only thing I'm concern with right now is doing what I'm assigned to do and that is taking Madd and those researchers. With that, I can't spend any more time talking to you so I'm hanging up. Good day VV."
"Jarvis—" VV spoke.
Jarvis hung up his cell phone and put it back in his pocket and then he made his way out of the airport.
Geass Order
VV looked at his cell phone and he shook his head with several cloaked members of the Geass Order with him.
"That ungrateful brat," VV said, "has he forgotten that it's because of me that Charles allowed him to be a Knight of the Round. Has he forgotten that it's because of my support that he has succeeded in his military career?" VV sighed and shook his head, "Some people are just not loyal."
"Master VV, what do you want to do?" One of the cloaked agents asked.
VV sighed again, "There's nothing we can do about it. If I get too pushy on the matter, Charles might suspect and I can't have that. Oh well, I may have to take a little trip. Besides, that boy that curious about…"
"You mean the former director's former accomplice?" One of the cloaked men asked.
"Yes Mao," VV said and had a grin.
Area 11 Airport
Jarvis exited out of the airport and picked up and looked at his cell phone.
"Now then," Jarvis said and then he pushed some button and placed his phone on his ear again, "Bismarck, it's me."
Bismarck spoke on the other line and Jarvis nodded.
"Yes sir," Jarvis said as he started walking, "everything is on schedule. I will complete the task that His Majesty has assigned me and one more thing…VV gave me a call."
Bismarck spoke on the other line and Jarvis nodded.
"Yes that's correct," Jarvis said.
Ashford Academy
In Lelouch and Nunnally's residence, CC stood and waved at Nunnally and Sayoko who were surprised.
"I'm back," CC said.
"This is a surprise," Nunnally commented.
"I'll fill you in what has happened," Lelouch said, "and Sayoko, welcome back."
"Yes, it's good to be back," Sayoko responded with a bow.
Lelouch told Nunnally and Sayoko what had happened earlier with Shirley with the confrontation of Mao and CC intervening. Nunnally and Sayoko were upset at what had happened to Shirley and despised Mao for what he had done and CC had a sad expression when it came to Mao. Lelouch assured them that Shirley was fine for now and that she was in her dorm room getting rest. Nunnally in turn told Lelouch what had happened at the Old Tokyo Tower when she and Alice were confronted by the three agents of the Geass Order who were looking to take Alice back with them and how Sayoko and Jinta helped them along the way. Lelouch was surprised and concerned about what he was told and they all figured that it would be only a matter of time.
Area 11's Public Library
Mao was staggering and was having a hard time. Even though no one was talking, he was hearing multiple thoughts all over the place and it was him driving crazy. He couldn't take it and decided to pull something out of his pocket. He pulled out a recorder and played it and it was CC's kind voice as played the praise and encouragement that CC had given to Mao. Listening to CC's voice made him feel in peace and relaxed and he felt calm as he was able to hear only CC's voice.
"CC, I promise we'll be together very soon," Mao said happily, "Lelouch doesn't deserve you at all. I'll take you back and we'll be together again."
The Next Day, Ashford Academy
Lelouch and Nunnally were meeting with Rai, Sayoko, and Alice and they were discussing their plan regarding Mao and how they were going to deal the three agents as well as the Code-R Research Team.
"Since this Mao guy has the ability to read minds, he could go after our weak points if we confront him recklessly," Rai said.
"Exactly," Lelouch said, "he'll definitely be gunning for me though."
"So how do we combat someone that can look into our thoughts?" Alice asked.
"Master Lelouch?" Sayoko spoke.
"He may seem to be so difficult," Lelouch said, "however I won't back down."
Lelouch thought about Shirley and the verbal torment that Mao put her through.
Elsewhere in Area 11
Mao was in a gun shop wanting to purchase some weapons and he was speaking with gun shop owner.
"Sorry but I can't sell you one without a permit," The gun shop owner said, "and besides, you're from the Chinese Federation, aren't you?"
"Yes I am," Mao replied, "but can you really not accommodate me?"
"No, I cannot," The gun shop owner replied.
"Even though you sell them to the Black Knights?" Mao pointed, "I suppose if I was one of them, we wouldn't be even having this conversation."
The gun shop owner was shocked and Mao grinned.
"You're actually a supporter of the Black Knights," Mao continued, "You made your last sales to them last Tuesday, 23:00. Your contact name is Wolf, an alias for obvious reasons."
The shop owner was shocked and looked at Mao surprised.
"W-Who are you?" The shop owner asked.
Mao was still grinning as he held his sunglasses.
"So what do you say Mr. Wolf?" Mao asked, "You accommodate me, give me what I want," Mao got close revealing his Geass eyes at Wolf, "and I won't alert the authorities on you. That sounds fair, right?"
Wolf was shaking and had his head down and clenched his teeth.
"Zero," Wolf said in his head upset.
Ashford Academy
Back in Lelouch and Nunnally's residence, Lelouch entered his room and there was CC sitting on his bed writing something on a paper.
"So did you all decide on something regarding Mao?" CC asked.
"First thing we need to do is find him first," Lelouch answered, "and even then, we have to be cautious and can't be reckless."
"Of course, that is absolutely true," CC said, "and that's because of his Geass," CC sighed as she stopped writing, "look, you should just use me. I'm Mao's real target after all. I'll keep him away from you and the others."
Lelouch just looked at CC.
"You have enough to worry about," CC continued, "I heard that Nunnally and Alice met those three agents. It's a good thing that Sayoko and Jinta were there to help them. They wouldn't have been able to really get away from them but they'll be coming soon if they're not here already and then there's Nonette you have to worry about. You don't need any more enemies dangerously closing in on you. I can deal with Mao and keep him away you and the others. So you see Lelouch, having me go to Mao and keep him at bay is the logical thing to do. I know you want revenge for what he did to your friend but I must insist on not trying that. You know you can't really beat Mao but I can so let me handle it."
"Tell me CC," Lelouch said, "why did you come back?"
CC was taken back and was a bit confused of Lelouch's question.
"I already told you Lelouch," CC said, "I came back to help you with your problem with Mao. I came back to get Mao away from you so that he doesn't interfere with you and doesn't come after you or anyone else close to you again. I already told you all this yesterday."
"…But why though?" Lelouch asked.
"Lelouch," CC said.
"CC, while I do appreciate you helping me and Shirley back in Narita yesterday," Lelouch said, "you didn't seem concerned about Mao roaming around before nor did you care for my safety and well-being for that matter since our fallout so tell me, why did you really come back and why did you really decide to help me?"
CC just looked at the floor.
"I had assumed that you had made a contract with someone else or would have found a way to leave Area 11," Lelouch continued, "so I'm shocked that you are now willing to help me get Mao out of my life even thought I want to him to pay severely for what he did to Shirley."
"I have my reasons," CC said, "but if you must know, I realized that there was no point trying to avoid him. Mao won't stop until he finds me and he's willing to hurt and kill anyone who he deems as someone who stands in the way such as you and use whatever means to remove those he considers a threat."
"Like using Shirley to get to me," Lelouch said angrily.
"That's right," CC said and then she sighed sadly, "why would he want to have me in his life? I mean seriously after all that has happened and after what I did."
"CC?" Lelouch asked.
"I'm sure you already know Lelouch," CC said, "I abandoned him. He is unable to turn off his Geass and it has driven insane. I wanted him to take my Code so that he could be the one to give Geass and end my immortality…but he refused so I left him. I left him knowing full well that he had grown attached to me and what may happen but I didn't care. Finding someone to fulfill the contract, finding someone will finally take my place and free me of my immortal life. That is all I cared about."
Lelouch just looked at CC and he had his thoughts of the things she said and the way she said them.
"Just tell me this CC," Lelouch said.
"Yes?" CC replied.
"Tell me, if I constantly use my Geass, will I be like Mao?" Lelouch asked, "Will I too get to the point that where I'm unable to turn my Geass off? Will it drive me to the point of insanity?"
"…The more you use your Geass, the more potent and effective it becomes," CC answered, "if you can't control it at that point, it will consumes you."
"Just like with Mao," Lelouch said, "and you gave him Geass when he was, what, six years old?"
"Yes…" CC responded.
"CC," Lelouch said clenching his fists.
"You're furious with me, aren't you?" CC said, "Well you have every right to be. Even knowing how Mao was going to be, I still just up and left him. With the choices I made, it resulted to your friend who suffered. I've ran from Mao too long and it's time for me to understand that no matter what, Mao won't stop until he gets what he wants and that's me. So with that Lelouch, I really, really want you to let me handle it. I'll keep Mao away from you and the others. I'll worry about what happens afterwards."
"You're serious about this," Lelouch said.
"I am," CC said as she stood up, "it's gone on long enough."
"What are you going to do CC?" Lelouch asked.
"…I'll think of something," CC said, "oh and one more thing."
"Hmm?" Lelouch responded.
"I wrote a story," CC said as she handed a stack of papers to Lelouch, "you and Nunnally should really take a look. Trust me on this; it's something that you two have been looking for."
Lelouch looked at the piece and raised an eyebrow.
"CC, it seems like it's just a bunch of random lines and words," Lelouch said.
"I know," CC said and then she smiled, "but that story you and Nunnally read about two brothers who are skilled in alchemy. That one chapter where the two officers that had a conversations after so long, you know when that female officer was transferred to be the president's personal assistant."
Lelouch was confused and looked at the stack of papers and then he realized something and looked at CC surprised.
"CC?" Lelouch asked.
"I'll be heading to the base," CC said.
"Hold it," Lelouch said.
"Hmm?" CC replied, "What is it?"
"Before you go," Lelouch said as he pulled out something out of his pocket and handed CC his credit card, "it's not much but it's my thanks for your help in Narita. Use it to order as many pizzas that you want."
"Oh I see," CC said surprised as she looked at card and smiled at Lelouch, "thanks, I'll happily accept this as your thanks. Looks like I'll be able to get that plushy after all."
CC left to head to the underground base and Lelouch looked at the story that CC wrote. Lelouch left his room and called for Nunnally.
Area 11 Viceroy Palace
In the throne room, Jarvis was in his Knight of the Round uniform and kneeling before Cornelia and Euphie who were sitting on their throne.
"Welcome to Area 11 Sir Jarvis Trenton," Cornelia said.
"Thank you," Jarvis said, "it's good to see you again Princess Cornelia," Jarvis looked at Cornelia and then Euphie, "it's good to see you again Princess Euphemia."
"Yes thank you," Euphie replied with a nod.
"I understand that you're here under orders of the emperor to retrieve Madd and his cohorts," Cornelia said.
"Correct," Jarvis said, "Madd was not even supposed to be in Area 11 in the first place. There had been suspicions of his involvement in the project that the late former Prince Clovis was involved in. The report we received from Nonette confirmed our suspicions."
"I see but do you have a way to tracking him down?" Cornelia said.
"Not to worry Your Highness," Jarvis said, "I already know where they are."
Euphie and Cornelia were surprised at what Jarvis had just said.
"You already know where they are?" Euphie asked.
"Yes and with that, I will begin to retrieve them," Jarvis said, "I can assure you that they will not escape from me."
"Very well, you have my thanks," Cornelia said, "it's just shameful that you had to come all the way here to fix our problem."
"Be at ease Your Highness," Jarvis said, "it's my understanding that a member of the now disbanded Purist Faction blatantly allowed Madd to leave when there was the opportunity to capture him. That soldier is the one that is guilty and should feel shame, not you."
"Yes and I can assure you, Villetta Nu's choice is now costing her," Cornelia said.
"Well then," Jarvis said as he stood up, "I'll take care of it."
"Thank you," Cornelia said.
Jarvis bowed to the two princesses of Britannia and left. Later on Jarvis was walking through the hall.
"Jarvis," Nonette called out.
Jarvis stopped and looked behind him and saw Nonette approaching him.
"Ah Nonette, it's good to see you," Jarvis said.
"Yeah, same to you," Nonette said.
Nonette and Jarvis walked together in the hall.
"So you'll be going right now to get Madd and those researchers," Nonette said.
"That's right," Jarvis said, "this won't take long. I know where they are and have the means to capture them."
"But how do you know where to find them?" Nonette asked.
"I have my ways," Jarvis said, "tracking people down is something I'm good at."
"Jarvis tell me…do you know what is really going on here?" Nonette asked.
"Huh, what do you mean?" Jarvis replied.
"There is something more going on than I realized and I really don't want to make assumptions or seem disrespectful but I get the sense that Bismarck and His Majesty knows more of what's going on," Nonette said, "especially with the emperor having me keep track of Zero's activities and his…nonchalant approach and response when I give my reports. I think they are hiding more than what they know."
Jarvis sighed and turned his back on Nonette.
"Nonette, I don't know what you're talking about how you came to the conclusion of you just said but I say this to you with all due respect as my senior, it would be best for you to just stick of what you've been assigned to. You've never questioned the emperor and have always believed in His Majesty, please don't start doubting His Majesty now."
Jarvis left and Nonette looked and narrowed her eyes. She then pondered that there was still that there was more going on.
Underground Base
CC had finished ordering pizza and gave specific instructions to where the pizzas needed to be delivered. CC was happy and looked at a stamp card she had but then she reminded herself about having to deal with Mao.
"I wonder if I'll be able to enjoy it," CC said.
"You amaze me CC," Marianne's voice spoke.
"Marianne," CC said.
"So decided to go back to my children," Marianne said, "And all to take care of that boy you left years ago."
"I simply decided to stop running from Mao," CC said, "it's gone on too long."
"I'm amazed that you're willing to help my son and daughter in keeping Mao away from them as well as their friends," Marianne said, "not that I don't appreciate it though. You're doing a good thing."
CC was silent.
"By the way CC, I'm curious," Marianne said, "that story you wrote, I have to say you might not be able to have that story published anytime soon. I'm sorry but your little story made no sense."
"Oh, I'm hurt," CC replied, "well I bet your kids will like it."
"If they tell you they like it, they'll say it just to spare your feeling," Marianne said.
"Hmm, are you sure about that?" CC asked.
"But don't feel bad," Marianne said with a cheerful tone, "you keep working on it and improve. So what's the deal though CC? Are you trying to be an author?"
"Hmm, maybe," CC said with a smile.
Ashford Academy
Lelouch and Nunnally were sitting on a table and they were reading the piece that CC wrote.
"Seems like a bunch of random stuff," Nunnally said.
"Exactly," Lelouch said, "however, it's not really a just a bunch of random things she wrote."
"Okay, let's see," Nunnally said.
Lelouch and Nunnally read the story that CC wrote and Lelouch looked in and had guess right that what CC wrote was actually a coded message. Lelouch and Nunnally began by taking certain words and letters of each paragraph of every page in the story.
"Let's see," Lelouch said, "there's the "A".
"The 'V'," Nunnally said.
"…Hmm, manor," Lelouch said, "but if switched around…"
"…Relative," Nunnally said.
Nunnally and Lelouch continued the decoding of CC's work. Moments later, they were gradually putting the message together and they were gradually surprised at words they saw.
"Marianne?" Lelouch spoke.
"Wait, Mother?" Nunnally said surprised and looked at another set of words, "then here…'tall man of with renaissance hair'…of course, that's referring to Father."
"Then 'short kid named V'…of course," Lelouch said, "VV, our immortal uncle."
The siblings connected the words for the message and they were surprised in what they say.
"Lelouch, this is…" Nunnally said surprised.
"So that's it," Lelouch said.
The message read, 'Your uncle VV is the one who killed your mother Marianne and he did it out of jealousy. Your father Charles is aware but as to why he has ignored it, you'll have to ask him when you see him. This is all I can do for you. I'm sure you know what to do next after reading this. There will be more that I will share with you if I feel it is safe to do so expect more.'
"Lelouch," Nunnally said turning to her brother.
"Yes," Lelouch said.
Lelouch went in the bathroom and with a lighter in his hand, he burned the coded message and placed it in the toilet and flushed down.
"Finally we know," Lelouch said.
Lelouch left the bathroom and sat next to Nunnally in the common room.
"So now we know who killed Mother and the fact that Father knew all along," Nunnally said.
"There was never any doubt in my mind that Father knew but I guess it just means that he really cares only for his own brother," Lelouch said with a frown, "but I promise you this Nunnally, I will get them back for this, our father and our uncle."
"Hmm," Nunnally nodded and placed her hand on Lelouch's shoulder, "I'm with you on this Lelouch."
An Hour Later
Lelouch stood in front of door that leads to Shirley's room. He knocks on the door and then the door opens with Sophie, Shirley's roommate answering the door.
"Oh Lelouch," Sophie said.
"Hi Sophie," Lelouch greeted, "Is Shirley in?"
"Lulu?" Shirley spoke.
Lelouch saw Shirley and waved at her.
"Hi Shirley, how are you feeling?" Lelouch asked.
"I'm feeling a lot better," Shirley responded with a smile, "thanks."
"Glad to hear it," Lelouch said.
Sophie looked at the two of them and then she smiled.
"It looks like you two have much to talk about," Sophie said, "I'll leave the two alone."
"Oh Sophie?" Shirley said.
"Good luck," Sophie said to Shirley with a grin as she left.
Shirley blushed and Lelouch was a bit confused but looked at Shirley.
"Are you really okay Shirley?" Lelouch asked.
"Oh yes, I'm fine," Shirley said regaining her composure, "really I'm okay."
"I see," Lelouch said, "I'm glad. I really am."
"Lulu, I…" Shirley said.
"Hmm, what is it?" Lelouch asked.
"Lulu, about that guy…" Shirley said with worry, "Are you going to…I mean is he going to come after us again? If he is... is he…?"
"Don't worry Shirley," Lelouch said, "I promise you that he won't go anywhere near you again. I'll make sure of it," Lelouch had the expression of determination, "I'm sorry you were caught up in this."
Shirley shook her head, "It's not your fault Lulu. I feel though that it's actually my fault."
"No, it's not," Lelouch replied strongly, "none of it is your fault. You were a victim in the situation."
"Lulu…" Shirley replied.
"I promise that I will stop him," Lelouch said.
"Lulu," Shirley said, "I don't know what you plan to do but please, please stay safe."
Lelouch looked at Shirley and nodded, "I will."
"Um Lulu, while you're here, there is something that I want to talk to you about."
"Hmm, what is it?" Lelouch replied.
Shirley looked around wanting to make sure no one else was around.
"Shirley?" Lelouch asked.
Shirley took a deep breath and looked at Lelouch with determination.
"Lulu, would it be possible for me to join the Black Knights?" Shirley asked.
Lelouch was taken aback by surprise.
"Wait, what?" Lelouch responded.
ASEEC Knightmare Hanger
Suzaku was putting on his Ashford black jacket and Cecile informed him of something.
"A medical check-up?" Suzaku asked.
"It's required for all Knightmare pilots," Cecile informed him.
"Oh, okay," Suzaku replied.
"Right, so you'll take one after school tomorrow," Cecile said.
"Sure," Suzaku said, "oh Miss Cecile, one more thing."
"Yes?" Cecile replied.
"Is there a way I can officially meet with Princess Euphemia?" Suzaku said.
"Princess Euphemia?" Cecile asked.
"Yes, the thing is that one of my classmates wants to meet her," Suzaku said, "She wants to thank Her Highness for what she did back in Lake Kawaguchi."
"Oh I see," Cecile said, "I assume she was one of your classmates that was held hostage at that time."
"Yes," Suzaku nodded.
"You can forget it," Lloyd said as he was still doing work on the computer.
"Lloyd," Suzaku said.
"You have to be a least a Knight of Honor to get an audience with her," Lloyd explained.
"That's true but surely you would be able to help him, right Lloyd?" Cecile said.
"Huh, me?" Lloyd replied.
"Yes, after all you are an Earl," Cecile said.
"Well I suppose…" Lloyd said.
"Huh?" Suzaku responded and then after processing what he had just heard he was surprised, "Wait a minute! Lloyd, you're actually an Earl?"
Lloyd laughed and felt bashful, "Well, it's kind of embarrassing."
"He's a prodigal aristocrat," Cecile said with a smile, "honestly he can't differentiate between work and play."
"I see…" Suzaku said as he was amazed, "wow…"
Ashford Academy
Lelouch was on the roof of one of the buildings and sighed.
"It's only a matter of time for Mao to make his next move," Lelouch said with a frown, "if only I knew when and where," Lelouch clenched his teeth in frustration, "I have to be able to get him somehow. I could get my Black Knights to try to locate him but I don't want to put them at risk if they get close to him. Mao can use his Geass on someone within a 500 meter radius and use their thoughts against them. No wait, I could ask Jinta. He's the same as CC so Geass won't work on him as well. In fact…" Lelouch pondered and had an idea, "yes, this could work."
Lelouch heard footsteps and he turned and when the door opened, it was Kallen.
"Oh Kallen," Lelouch said.
"Hi Lelouch," Kallen replied, "I'm glad I found you."
Kallen and Lelouch stood and looked at the view of the campus.
"You and Naoto visited your mom, right?" Lelouch spoke.
"Yeah, we did," Kallen said.
"How is she doing?" Lelouch asked.
"A lot better," Kallen said, "she's still feeling the effects from the Refrain but she's able to speak."
"That's good," Lelouch said, "I'm happy for you."
"Thank you," Kallen said with a smile, "what about you? Rai told us about what happened to Shirley. Is she okay?"
"She's fine," Lelouch said, "she's actually doing a lot better."
"That's good," Kallen said and then she had a serious expression, "Lelouch, this Mao guy, is there anything we can do."
"Kallen?" Lelouch said.
"Me and the rest of us of the Black Knights," Kallen said, "is there something we can do to help?"
"No, this is my personal fight," Lelouch said, "I have to be the one to deal with him."
"Lelouch," Kallen said.
"This guy is dangerous," Lelouch said, "I'd rather not have you and the others in the Black Knights involved."
"It's not the first time we faced someone dangerous," Kallen pointed out.
"That's true however though, it's not the physical prowess that he has," Lelouch said, "it's how he can get someone mentally. It's battle of wits on this one."
"And you want to take on this guy by yourself?" Kallen asked.
"Yeah, he used and tormented Shirley to get to me," Lelouch said, "and I won't be satisfied until I make pay severely for he did."
"Well don't you think that's more of a reason to let us help you?" Kallen asked, "Lelouch, we all made a promise to stick with you to the very end. You helped us in our dire need, please let us return the favor and help you with what you need against Mao."
"I appreciate it Kallen," Lelouch said, "I'm grateful to you and everyone but please, I need to handle this on my own and besides, if something was to happen to you, to anyone of you, if Mao was to get to you like he did to Shirley, I…"
Lelouch clenched his fists and Kallen looked worried.
"Lelouch?" Kallen spoke.
Lelouch calmed down and smiled at Kallen.
"I'm sorry Kallen," Lelouch said, "I'm okay. It's just that I value all of you and I don't want any of you to suffer because of me."
Kallen just looked at Lelouch and suddenly wrapped his arm on her. Lelouch looked at Kallen and was surprised by her action.
"Kallen," Lelouch said.
"Lelouch, we're here for you," Kallen said, "all of us. You're being considerate of our well-being and I know that the rest of us appreciate that but please, if it's hard, you don't have to face it alone. Please remember that."
"I know Kallen," Lelouch said smiling, "this is something I need to handle on my own but if I need help, I won't hesitate to ask. I said it to Nunnally earlier and to Rai and Alice. Just trust me on this."
"Okay, I trust you," Kallen said with confidence, "I know you can do it."
"I appreciate the confidence you have in me," Lelouch said happily, "thank you."
"Sure," Kallen said with a warm smile.
An Alleyway within the Tokyo Settlement
Dalque and Lucretia were slammed to a wall and they fell on the ground. Sancia was shocked and she looked on with her Geass activated and glared at the person who confronted them and it was CC who wore her own casual clothes.
"Damn, I never expected that you would get in our way as well," Sancia said.
"It seems that Jinta really gave you three a hard time yesterday after he helped Alice and Nunnally escape from you. It was so bad for you three that you had no choice but to retreat. I bet Madd was quite furious with you three when you went back to him with nothing to show for. Anyway, there's something I want to know from you three."
"What are you talking about?" Sancia asked.
"Mao, I want to know where he is," CC said.
"Mao?" Sancia replied surprised and shook her head, "Why would you think that we would know?"
"During the time that I was experimented on, I heard Madd talk about Mao and how he had you three keep track of him," CC said, "were you three keeping track of him?"
"Oh I see…well we were," Sancia said, "but we were told that you would not even be interested so why are interested in one of your former accomplices now?"
"That's not your concern," CC replied, "I just want to know where I can find him."
"Hmph, if I tell you, will you stay out of our way to capture Alice?" Sancia asked.
"Unfortunately for you, I can't allow that," CC said.
"Wait what?" Sancia said surprised.
"That's right," CC said, "I also intend to keep you from getting Alice."
"I don't get it," Sancia said upset, "Why are you doing this? Why are you going out of your way for Alice too? She never received her Geass from you. Logically, she's not worth a damn to you so why?"
"I have my reasons," CC responded, "That is all you need to know."
Dalque and Lucretia looked on and couldn't believe what they were hearing as well.
"Well then too bad," Sancia said, "we won't tell you where that Mao guy is and even if we were to tell you, it won't do you any good."
CC glared at Sancia, "That's not what I want to hear."
"Do what you want to us," Sancia said, "the truth is that we stopped keeping track on him not too long ago so really, we have no idea where he is."
"Well that's disappointing," CC said with sigh, "no choice then."
CC charged towards Sancia which surprised Sancia, Lucretia, and Dalque.
Clovisland
Mao was walking through the theme park. He was hearing the thoughts of people in the theme park and it was driving him crazy so he immediately turned up the volume of his recorder hearing only CC's voice. He was able to feel relaxed again and felt at peace again. He then looked around at the theme park.
"They have this park Clovisland still standing and open," Mao said, "even though the prince who built the park and had it named after is considered a disgrace for this illegal project he was involved," Mao got angry, "the same illegal experiments that they were performing on CC. Damn them all. When this is over and I have CC back with me, I'll hunt down those bastards and kill them myself."
Mao looked around and felt confident.
"Now then," Mao said, "this place will be the setting of our long awaiting reunion. CC, it's time we got together again."
