Historia Shoukan Chapter 13
Altaras Rescue and Zeroth Area

Date: November 18th, HS 2069/CC 1639
Location:
West Rodenius Sea
Place: Disguised Altaran Merchant Ship Tarcos

Under the crystal-clear blue skies, a comfortable wind blew and the waves were calmer than usual. In a region filled with small islands so unremarkable that they're not even reflected on maps, a single merchant ship was traveling with its sail in the wind. It was a merchant ship from first glance, but the defensive capabilities it possessed were far better than a meager merchant ship. It was the Tarcos, a proud disguised merchant ship that belonged to Altaras Kingdom.

King Taara XIV woke up from his slumber. He was shaken in fear as all of his soldiers are annihilated.

"We... We've been defeated..."

The King kneels while Lumies try to comfort him. The entire SAO group are on lookout duty.

"We apologize for causing this to happen..."
"No. It's alright... It's our fault that we didn't take the initiative soon as well..."

North Rodenius Sea

They continue to sail for another week. During the entire voyage, their supplies were still abundant thanks to SAO Veterans' Inventory system that allows them to store more. If not, they might get hungry for next few days.

With her father being taken care by few attendants, Lumies looks at the ocean. Her face was a bit worn out from worry as sadness loomed around her eyes.

"Your Highness. It is time for your meal."

A man respectfully bowed to the woman before guiding her towards the inside of the ship.

"Since we are currently on transit, we could only prepare such shabby meals for you. We apologize for this."

For someone so ordinary to eat in the presence of the woman is a grand thing.

"You haven't eaten breakfast yet, haven't you? Aren't you strict with the stores of food that we have?"

The man made a worried face as it was not something that could be hidden from her. In truth, other than those that did the actual hard work, nobody has eaten breakfast or lunch. Even with the abundance of supplies, the food distribution is quite strict to account for the unexpected.

"... Indeed. The headwind is stronger than anticipated so the journey will take longer. We wanted to resupply in Louria but... Ever since they lost the war with Qua-Toyne, the lords have split up and the government is no longer stable. There is also Parpaldia to the north, but since it's highly possible that there are people who know us, we cannot risk the danger."
"... Then please take my lunch. I have no need for it."

The man's eyes widened.

"I cannot! Your Highness is royalty, so even aboard this ship, you must have a satisfying meal! I cannot for the sake of my dignity! I should have anticipated this situation and arranged for my own meals! Please, we still eat, so don't mind it!"

Their meals were restricted to only one per day, but so that the princess wouldn't worry, the man didn't bring it up. He bowed his head to Princess Lumies, one of the survivors of Altaran royal family. He was one of the top-class warriors that have protected the royal family. To send off the king and princess to a safe country, he continues to work additionally as a sailor without rest.

"What are you talking about? You are the one using up their strength to work for this ship. The one who truly needs the food is you. I have no need for it. I order you to make my meals less than yours from now on. This is so that we could all survive."
"B-But you mustn't, Your Highness!"

Even if the gesture moved him, he still tried to stop Lumies from leaving her seat. Understanding that he was desperately doing what he was meant to do, she smiled at him with a face that looked like a goddess's.

"I do not want to be a princess that sits on her throne as the rest of the populace suffers in hunger. This is also for the sake of myself."

The man finally gave in. While they could only allot two bites worth of food if distributed to those who really need it, the feelings of the wise princess were enough to fill the hearts of the sailors who were on the brink of starving. She continued for three hours adamantly denying to eat lunch. Back on top of the Tarcos' deck, top-class warrior Lilceide was looking at the ocean.

"Your Majesty..."

She remembers her meeting with the king before they set out. Determined to fight with a Superpower, the king was determined to protect the kingdom. Not only did he want to protect his own daughter from the loss of the war, he even showed her his fatherly side. He was kind, never proud, and together with the princess who actively tries to do something for the people, Lilceide loved them.

With the help from SAO group, the Altarans onboard Tarcos witness the battle between their army and Parpaldians. And as expected, their nation fell in three days. It's thanks to them that their king is still alive. Lilceide decides to do anything to protect the king and the princess, even if it meant sacrificing her own life.

"Hm?!"

Suddenly, from the shadows of the islands, six ships appeared. They flew black flags that had skulls drawn on them. All six ships were clearly heading for them.

"Pirates?!"

On the decks of the pirate ships, barbarian-looking men were swinging their swords around as they let out crude shouts.

"All men prepare for battle! Prepare for battle! Pirates are coming!"

Lilceide momentarily felt regret taking a route through the islands. Regaining her senses, she readied for battle. The camouflaged merchant ship Tarcos has storage room for muskets along with arrow-deflecting boards all over. They don't have a magic cannon, but they do have ballista. She was only a merchant ship in name. 70% of her crew were warriors and soldiers. To protect the king and princess of their now-fallen kingdom, they prepared to fight back against the pirates.

Soon, the Altarans will see the strength of SAO Veterans first-hand.

North of the former Louria Kingdom were islands that didn't even have names. Making the islands their stronghold, the Ruffle pirate gang had spotted their prey: a lone ship. The merchant ships of the nations around them, wary of pirates in the region, hardly pass through the islands. With that said, this lone merchant ship cruising through their waters were either people who weren't acquainted with how things work in the region or were merchants from far away. Considering the size of the ship, they definitely weren't the latter.

A large, lumbering prey stumbled into our humble abode…

Gang leader Ruffle was overjoyed. Few months ago, Louria Kingdom was defeated when fighting with a country called "Historia" and so the merchant ships that have been traveling through the region became fewer. There was simply no way they should miss this opportunity.

"Fellas! Tonight will be a feast to remember!"
"YEAAAAAAAAHHHHH!"

His henchmen responded with great vigor. Confident in their ships' speed, the pirates had them go faster as they approached the merchant ship. Once they were close enough, they started hurling threats and intimidation from their decks. By whittling down their will to fight, they can get their bounty sooner. However, the sailors' movements were fairly quick and the reaction to their threats were minimal. Misunderstanding these signs as the other side being too busy trying to run away, he gave the order to loose fire arrows.

"Are the fire arrows ready?! Let's make it harder for them to run away!"

If fire gets a grip on the ship's hull, the sailors will move to conduct firefighting operations. Because of that, they will neglect their maneuvering, making it an important first strike.

"Hah! Hah! Hah! FIRE!"
"Yeah!"

Multiple fire arrows were launched from the pirate ships onto the merchant ship. The arrows took a parabolic arc as they cut through the air, eventually raining down on the camouflaged merchant ship Tarcos. However, they bounced off the thin iron anti-arrow plating on the ship and fell into the sea. That, or they were blocked by the wooden shields neatly attached along the ship's deck. The Altarans suffered no personnel casualties.

"W-What?!"

Ruffle was aghast at the unbelievable defensive capabilities of the merchant ship. In return, the merchant ship crews fired their muskets at them. Countless bullets pierced the pirate ships, wounding some of the men. Unfortunately for them, a dry piece of rope was set ablaze, ironically forcing the attackers to commence firefighting operations. The number of bullets launched at them and the proficiency of those onboard hinted that they were clearly not just some merchant ship. It was extremely likely that they had skilled mercenaries with them. Still, no matter how strong they were, his pirates had six ships. With their numerical superiority, they'd win even if their opponent was a warship. Above all, a meticulously protected merchant ship must mean that it is brimming with treasure.

The pirate ships then made contact with the camouflaged merchant ship. The hoarse shouts of men loudly reverberated within the island group.

Due to the fact that Historia Alliance is allied with Qua-Toyne and Quila, Louria's invasion is halted due to the unexpected loss of their advance force. Furthermore, the Alliance unilaterally invades Louria and subjugated them roughly in a week. During the following months, the chaos within the government caused by the arrest of the king made many regular troops left from service. As result, the pirates activity increased. The Alliance decided to deploy a large number of Seawolf Gunboats and several Horizon Destroyers to guard the oceans north, west, and south of Rodenius Continent. By June 26th, their patrols began in earnest. A particular patrol group consisting of 3 Seawolf Gunboats and a single Horizon Destroyer are currently patrolling the area that would be passed by Altaran ship Tarcos. The patrol grop have been informed beforehand about Altaras' current situation, and when they see the designated ship, they will escort the ship.

Past noon, during one of their usual patrols, boat-like signatures appeared on the battlefield control of the Horizon Destroyer. Feeling that something was out of place, the destroyer captain decided to dispatch the V-22 Osprey to verify the situation. The tiltrotor took off from its platform and flew off into the skies as the patrol group ships follows it from the sea.

To avoid hand-to-hand combat, Tarcos crews launched fire arrows all throughout the battle. If they were boarded, they may not be able to protect King Taara XIV and Princess Lumies. Even in the best circumstances, a big merchant ship cannot do sharp turns. If they were to be caught by even a single ship, they'd be immediately permitting an enemy attack to happen. Then, the arrows launched by the pirates finally landed on their sail, burning Tarcos' important propulsion component.

"Shit! They got the sail!"

They used the Tears of the Wind God against the headwind so much that it lost power, but now that they don't have a sail, they couldn't even move. It would take manpower and time to get the reserve sails up. Lilceide, who was commanding over the battle, couldn't help but feel pressed.

The pirates are approaching and SAO Veterans brace themselves for combat. When the pirate ship was around 15 meter, they throw the boarding hooks to Tarcos, where King Taara XIV and Princess Lumies are located.

"Get ready, everyone."

Kazuto then unsheathes his swords, Elucidator and Dark Repulser.

"Ha ha ha ha ha! Take all of their belongings! While that ship isn't here, take all of their belongings and women!"
"H-Hey! Boss! We got a big shot!"

Looking at the sight of King Taara XIV and Princess Lumies, the pirate leader became delighted.

"Woohoo! We got a big bounty! Let's capture them and ask for a huge ransom from their country! Everyone, CHAARRGG...ee?"

When the Princess is praying for the safety of the ship, one of the pirate captains felt something hitting his chest. Looking down, he is shocked that someone managed to shot him. In fear, he looks above and found someone on Tarcos crow's nest.

"Ah... Ahh..."
"Boss!"

Another shot to the head ends his life. It happened so fast, the Altarans and the pirates stunned in silence due to shock.

THUD!

"T-The boss is gone!"
"W-Where are you, you bastard?!"

They're getting closer to Tarcos, hoping to expose the assassin when they capture King Taara XIV. Unfortunately, there are another two pirates who got killed by the sniper at the crow's nest. Just like the first one, both of them received chest shot and head shot before they die.

"G-gaahhh..."

The pirates then notice someone going down and joining SAO Veterans. They have a strange staff-like weapon.

"T-There they are! Kill them!"

But when the pirate ship managed to reach Tarcos, SAO Veterans suddenly leaps at the crew, and caught them by surprise. Noticing it, the Altarans then helped them by firing their muskets at the pirate crew to reduce their numbers. One by one, the pirate crew witnessed how this coordinated attack decimate them.

"N-No... I didn't sign up for this! Turn back! Turn back!"

On SAO Veterans' side, they finished scouring the ship.

"Looks like there's a lot of stolen goods here."
"Did you seize it?"
"Yes. I've put all of them inside the guild storage."
"Good to hear. No doubt a patrol group from the Alliance will notice the increased naval activity in this area. They should arrive anytime soon."
"Got it."

Nodding, Kazuto then creates a party. The party immediately leaps to the next boat while Altaran crews fires at the other pirate boat. They pondered whether to call Nanaya and Ryougi for quick elimination, but decided against it because their Mystic Eyes of Death Perception are considered as 'overkill'. Furthermore, the Altarans would have to reclaim their dignity after their Kingdom subjugated by Parpaldia. As of how SAO Veterans became part of the Outsiders, a group from Gensokyo managed to gather the notable players there and cleared the game, then they connected Gensokyo with Kawahara Dimension.

Since Kazuto showed some exceptional leadership skills alongside Asuna, both of them are chosen as the leaders of SAO Veterans, the position they held to this day. Recently, the Union planned to promote both of them to be part of the Elite Outsiders due to their skills.

As the group reaches the next ship, they brandishes their weapons and immediately charges at the pirates. Their experiences in Aincrad certainly helps in this case as the pirates became demoralized when facing them.

To avoid hand-to-hand combat, Tarcos crews fired their muskets all throughout the battle. If they were boarded, they may not be able to protect King Taara XIV and Princess Lumies. Even in best circumstances, a big merchant ship cannot do sharp turns. If they were to be caught by even a single ship, they'd be immediately permitting an enemy attack to happen. Then, the arrows launched by the pirates finally landed on their sail, burning the Tarcos' important propulsion component.

"Shit! They got the sail!"

They used the Tears of the Wind God against the headwind so much that it lost power, but now that they don't have a sail, they couldn't even move. It would take manpower and time to get the reserve sails up. Lilceide, who was commanding over the battle, couldn't help but feel pressed.

Tabatabatabataba…

"Huh?!"

An unsettling sound which sounded like something was being hit in succession could be heard from the distance. The pirates and Altaran soldiers stopped their fighting as they looked towards the direction of the mysterious sound.

"W-What the hell is that?!"

A non-living, artificial something flew in the skies and passed overhead. The patting sound of the air being hit came with high-pitched screeching. The never-before-heard roar endlessly echoed throughout the vicinity, agitating everyone. The pirates openly launched arrows against the turning object but it appears to be in a position higher than what it seemed. The arrows cut through the air before falling into the ocean below. While everyone looked up at the floating object, the door on the deck of the Tarcos made a sound.

"P-Princess!"

Getting away from the servants' restraints, Princess Lumies emerged into the battlefield.

Yells and screams jumbled all over each other outside the ship as the warriors risked their lives to fight. Powerless, Lumies could only feel the vexingness of having to just sit and wait. Then, she began hearing a high-pitched sound which she has never heard of before, mixed in with the sound of the air being rapidly beaten by something. Feeling that it was not a trivial matter, she shook off her servants' restraints and exited her safe dwellings. Running up the stairs all at once, she emerged out onto the deck.

"!"

She looked up at the sky searching for the origin of the sounds before her breath was taken away by what she saw: an unfamiliar object hovering in the sky decorated with a crest that has a red disc with sixteen rays on a white rectangle. There's no doubt about it, it's the flag of Historia Shoukan Dominion. Below the blinding sun, the object, a tiltrotor, dance around in the blue skies. From where she looked, she saw two flat blades rotating above the object.

"Princess! What are you doing?!"

Lumies returned to her senses and looked back. At that moment, an arrow brushed against her arm. The pirates not only attacked the flying object, but they also continued their attacks on Tarcos. Seeing blood pooling on Lumies's arm, the servants panicked before forcibly carrying her away back inside the ship.

"What the hell?! We can't hit it with arrows!"
"Cap'n! It's just up there doing nothing!"

While his pirate henchmen were talking amongst themselves, Ruffle looked up before being overcome with worry.

"What's wrong, Cap'n?"

His henchmen noticed that he was trembling all over.

"A-Are y'all… ready for what comes next?"

Not knowing what he meant, his henchmen were at a loss on how to respond.

"That bastard... It's one of the iron birds, the underlings of the 'grey demons'. That damned thing is calling it as we speak!"
"G-Grey demons?!"

Roughly two months ago, the 'grey demons' appeared out of nowhere, hunting down pirates wherever they went. They were frightening beings that possessed greater combat power than even the warships in Louria's arsenal. Among the pirates, rumors surfaced that the ships was from a country called Historia, which was the same one that routed the Lourian great fleet in the Rodenius Grand Naval Battle.

The other pirates suddenly began to feel unnerved. However, the gods did not give them the luxury to think. From behind the island appeared a glistening grey ship that was far bigger than both the pirate ships and merchant ships and it even had no sails. The remaining three pirate ships immediately changed their target and rushed for the 'grey demon'–a single Horizon Destroyer. Oars emerged from the pirate ships as they rushed towards the Horizon Destroyer at full speed. Then a shot is fired.

BOOOM!

"T-the ship!"

They saw one of the 'cleared' ships destroyed by a single fire from the Horizon Destroyer. SAO Veterans then leaps to the pirate ship that the Altaran crews fired upon.

Suddenly, a loud voice rang out as if to pause everything.

"Good day to all! This is Historia Shoukan Patrol Guard. Stop your ships this instant, or we will fire on you! I repeat–"

"Cap'n! That ship is speaking in a loud voice!"
"Send 'em gifts from our longbows!"

Longbowmen used their longbows to hurl fire arrows at the Horizon Destroyer from maximum range. The arrows drew a parabolic arc across the sky before hitting the destroyer and disappointingly bouncing off from its deck.

"What the?!"

Ruffle was aghast at the hull of the ship which was impervious to arrows. While the pirates were taken back by what unfolded, a long rod mounted on the front deck of the Horizon Destroyer then turned towards one of the pirate ships.

"Is it attacking?"

It was too slender for a magic cannon. Ruffle scratched his head as he wondered if it were a blowgun. The moment after he suddenly felt dread, ear-piercing sounds came from the long rod of the 'grey demon', followed by multiple shots. The 155mm rounds from the 155mm autocannon on the Horizon Destroyer flew as tracers drew lines across the sky. The rounds, which have enough destructive power to pulverize a light tank, easily penetrated the bilge of the pirate ship, opening up massive holes under the waterline. Massive amounts of seawater rushed into the pirate ship as it slowly sank. The other two pirate ships were then attacked in order. The pirates then lost the will to fight after seeing how unbelievably short the amount of time it took for them to be attacked.

"What the hell is that ship?! Was that a magic cannon?!"
"Nah, it's different. It fired at an unbelievable speed."
"And it hit all the shots... I can't believe it."

Lilceide's subordinates were surprised at what happened. Lilceide herself couldn't believe what just happened. Moreover, the grey ship, no matter what angle she looked at it from, was bigger than even the magic ships of the line of the Superpower Parpaldia. This may be a ship from Historia, which she was told to ask for help from. However, if these men were to turn their fangs on them, she wouldn't be able to protect Lumies. The combat power was just too immense. Cold sweat ran down Lilceide's cheeks.

'At any rate, they saved our lives for now...'

She both felt relief and the urge to talk with the men who wielded such strong power. It was handy that they handed out a warning before attacking, leading her to believe that they didn't attack willy-nilly.

"This has to go well..."

Lilceide muttered. With that, as the sounds of battle faded away, Lumies once again showed up on deck after she had received treatment.

"Lilceide! Everyone! Change shifts and rest! That grey ship is from Historia, the nation that established diplomatic relation with us. While the ship is being repaired, go take a break! I will go talk to them."
"What are you thinking, Princess?"

The grey ship approached the remains of the four pirate ships as its crew picked up the pirates floating along the ocean surface one after the other before taking them deeper inside the ship. They counted about 200 men–a good catch. They may have been normally tasked with capturing pirates. After it finished picking up the pirates from the ocean surface, the grey ship approached Tarcos. It seemed as if Lilceide didn't have enough time to think.

"With all due respect, even after we establish diplomatic relation with Historia, we still don't know much about them. For you to be the one to request for assistance is too careless. We must first..."

Lumies shook her head.

"We are all that's left of our country. We don't have the leisure to discuss this in depth. We must be sincere if we are to ask for help."
"But if something were to happen to you..."

Lilceide desperately persisted. If something were to happen to Lumies, not only would she not be able to face Taara XIV later on, but she would also regret it for the rest of her life.

"Then let's do it like this. Please come with me since I don't feel well doing it alone."

Lilceide finally noticed Lumies's trembling hands. She took her hand and bowed.

"As you command."

Shortly afterwards, the SAO Veterans returned to Tarcos after clearing the last pirate ship. Noticing the Horizon Destroyer, Kazuto sighs in relief. Lumies was amazed to see SAO Veterans' strength.

"Your group are really strong."
"Thank you for the compliment, Your Highness."
"Just where did you came from?"
"We're from Virtual Players United, a guild tasked to maintain the Union's technological edge."

Despite the grey ship not having any sails, it continued to sail towards them. It was big beyond any common sense with its smart design making sure there aren't any useless spaces and its form being marvelously beautiful. It left a long, white wake across the sea from its rear as it let out a low, growling sound. The Altarans couldn't help but feel fear as the upcoming talks that would decide their fate neared. Finally, the grey ship reached the side of the Tarcos. Lilceide then told her companions not to attack. Since Altaras already established diplomatic relationship with Historia prior to their subjugation by Parpaldia, the crew are aware of the technological disparity. The Tarcos could not hope to emerge victorious over this grey ship.

The waves caused by the colossal ship shook the Tarcos. Finally, a loud voice spoke in the Common Language.

"Are any of you injured? If so, please raise your left hand."

Unlike back on Home Dimension, they did not use the international distress signal. Since they'd only understand if told, the Alliance prepared easy means of communication so that they could properly convey their intentions. Since several dozen people raised their hands, Lilceide too raised her hand.

"We will now go to you to verify the situation. We request that you do not attack us."

After that was said, three oarless boats, which took in the pirates earlier, appeared before heading to the Tarcos.

HSD Horizon Destroyer of HSD North Rodenius Sea Patrol Group

In the middle of patrolling the Kilchers region north of Louria where they believe there was pirate activity, the Horizon Destroyer sent out its V-22 Osprey to verify the dubious radar returns and discovered pirates attacking a merchant ship. The destroyer then subsequently rushed over to the scene. Despite warning the pirates, they were attacked, therefore they exercised their right to self-defense, sinking the pirate ships. Three Seawolf Gunboats that were escorting the Horizon Destroyer taking into custody 200 pirates. Since they also learned that there were several who were wounded on the merchant ship, they were deployed to aid them.

It was truly an encounter with the unknown. Princess Lumies and top-class warrior Lilceide boarded the Horizon Destroyer as the commanders of the Tarcos to explain their situation. They stood on the deck of the massive ship and were once more overwhelmed by the real experience of being on a ship that was colossal.

Lumies and Lilceide followed the crew members down a hallway.

"Princess... This ship seems more like a fortress than a vessel... Its hull and interior seem to be made out of iron. I beg you... Don't mess up and startle them, Your Highness."
"O-Of course..."

Feeling anxious all over, the two followed the crew members to the room where the captain resided. Inside they found a tall man who welcomed them courteously.

"My name is Minamoto, the officer assigned to HSD North Rodenius Sea Patrol Group. You seem to have been attacked by pirates and have some who are in need of medical attention. Just how maneuverable is your merchant vessel?"

Lumies felt both assured and taken back by the officer's gentlemanly and ordinary folk-like disposition.

"I thank your nation for helping us. I am Lumies and I represent our ship. This is warrior Lilceide. Skipping the pleasantries, we have sustained some casualties due to the pirate attack. Fortunately, thanks to the help of one of your nation's groups, we won't have to worry about food. My apologies, but I would like to ask for your help."
"I take that you came from Altaras and want to go to our mainland?"

As said before, the patrol group has been informed beforehand about Altaras' current situation. Since Historia already established diplomatic relation with them, the Alliance decided to help them establish a government-in-exile. Despite that, Lumies and Lilceide felt nervous and looked at each other wondering how best to answer.

"Uhh…"

When Lumies opened her mouth to speak, she abruptly felt dizzy and her vision grew blurry.

"Huh?"

All of a sudden, she saw the floor get closer. Losing energy, she fell where she stood.

"P-Princess!"

Lilceide subconsciously screamed. Taking Lumies into her arms, she started sweating profusely as drool started dripping from her mouth. Her eyes started to fade and she began to shake.

"?!"

Minamoto couldn't contain his surprise at what happened and he glanced upon a bandage wrapped around her right arm.

"When did she get this injury?"
"This... Did she get this from the battle?! ... Could it be from a poison arrow?!"
"This is bad! Minamoto here! The Altaran Princess is in dire need of medical attention! Get the V-22 Osprey ready for takeoff to bring her to the Dominion hospital in Qua-Toyne!"

The officer howled out orders. He then looked to Lilceide with a grim look.

"Ms. Lilceide… Could you tell me more about what happened during the journey?"

Princess Lumies of Altaras Kingdom was transported aboard a V-22 Osprey to an Alliance hospital in the base at Ejey in Qua-Toyne. Once Tarcos arrived at Port Maihark, she was then transferred to a major hospital in Historia mainland under direct order from Alliance Leaders so that nothing bad would happen to her.

Since the patrol group apprehended the pirates, Tarcos now can sail and safely reach Port Maihark. The crew then being transferred into the Alliance's Voyager Transports and evacuated to Historia Mainland. The SAO Veterans are being recalled once again since Altaras mainland is now under Parpaldia's occupation. After showing the Altarans their spot in the New World Embassy, they then escorted them to their temporary residence in Rairekishigaku.

Date: November 27th, HS 2069/CC 1639
Location: Shiratamaro, Inner Meikai Territory, Meikai Region, Historia Shoukan Dominion, Zeroth Civilization Area
Place: Seikoushii Military Base

Inside the military base, there were a lot of activities. The reason for this? It's because Gra Valkas finally accepted to expand their joint military exercises with the Alliance. Currently, two divisions from the Imperial Ground Army are facing the infamous Magus Trio Joint Forces in a war game.

"Air infantries incoming!"
"Send our Antares to deal with them!"
"Don't forget their ground forces!"

The Alliance recognizes that Gra Valkas have a very strong navy, hence why they decided to flaunt their fleets during the first contact. The fact that Gra Valkans use astronomy naming themes managed to make Marisa interested to see their ground forces.

So far, the Imperial Ground Army managed to hold their own. However, once Marisa reveals her Hakkero Drones, the ground army are defeated easily. Fortunately, every Gensokyo military units sticks to non-lethal danmaku when they're not at war.

Right now, the Gra Valkans are being treated after receiving the unexpected aerial strike that easily wiped out their forces. They chatted with each other and grateful that their Empire have made the right choice to not antagonize the Alliance.

"Phew..."

This time, Marisa took the armchair command position. By technicality, Magus Trio Joint Forces have the home field advantage, but the reason Seikoushii being chosen as the war game venue is because it's located in Meikai, and can be considered as a neutral territory. Unknown to the Gra Valkans, GUF and UNM still didn't shown their true strength, and the Alliance want to keep it that way until Ravernal returns.

"Good work, everyone. This should show them why they shouldn't mess with us. You all can return now."
"Yes, Ma'am!"

Marisa then ponders about what has happened in the 2060s as well as a brief history lesson regarding GUF alliance with HMF before the latter officially joined Historia Alliance.

Ever since Project Shoukan initiated on 2062, GUF played a major role in building up the continent since they already have a plan to expand Gensokyo 2 years prior. UNM also gave a major contribution since they will provide the main military force for the new Dominion.

It's not to say it was easy. During the first three years, the Alliance created an artificial continent that will serve as the mainland for the Dominion. In 2065, LCF and MDF also joined the Project alongside HMF who joined the Alliance at the same year, so in addition to building the base on the continent, several landmasses are created north of it, which later being put under LCF and MDF management. No one in the Alliance objects to this.

In 2043, GUF offered their help to STI, who was supplying HMF with advanced technologies during their war with a rogue non-human militant force known as STICK Army. This is because the Union heard that the previous STI CEO is assassinated by the same rogue force. Despite the majority of GUF being non-human, they still decided to help STI and HMF for the next 7 years, and a joint operation between GUF and STI ended the STICK War once and for all. Later, STI joins HMF and GUF became their ally.

In 2065, GUF saw the emergence of Kokusho Void Legion, who actually observed Historia Gensokyo as early as 2035. Intrigued by the Union's victory over Koumaden Death Army three years prior, Kyomu Kuroshin'en, Kokusho Goddess and leader of KVL, decided to challenge GUF. Including herself, the other famous KVL Commanders are Onajimi no Rei, Enjin Sekigai, and Anbu Jusha.

KVL Shadow Division is the unit led by Anbu Jusha. This division serves as Kokusho's primary intelligence gatherer. They can turn themselves into shadows and gain crucial intels without raising suspicion. Currently, they're assigned to gather intel on Parpaldia Empire in order to give the Alliance massive advantage should the war became inevitable. The fall of Altaras Kingdom spurs the division to work better.

KVL Armor Division is the unit led by Enjin Sekigai. It's safe to say that this division is the strongest KVL unit below the two Corps. As one of the Coliseum Units, they're considered as KVL Elite Unit, which is supported by the fact that they can serve in both base defense and heavy assault role. Their rivals are Abendrot Jörmungandr Corps.

When it comes to two Corps of KVL, the Zero Corps serves as the primary force of Kokusho. This corps is led by Onajimi no Rei, the Void Marshal. Due to the fact that she's the direct second-in-command for Kokusho, she's being compared with Yumeko from Makai and Kleine from Abendrot. It can be said that this unit saw the most action during Gensokyo-Kokusho Skirmish in 2065. Since KVL integration into GUF, the Zero Corps serves as one of the Union's defense forces.

Finally, the Abyss Corps is the top force of Kokusho, primarily because Kyomu herself is the one leading them. The size of this corps may vary greatly since she also have the authority to request any KVL Divisions to reinforce the corps with a fraction of their numbers, giving her a great deal of versatility. She's been admitted into the rank of Gensokyo Sages since 2066, one year after the skirmish.

Location: Sealed Dimension Kokusho
Place: Castle of Emptiness

Several Gensokyo Sages are gathered at the Castle of Emptiness. Those who attended are Yukari, Okina, Kasen, and Kyomu. They're going to share the intel from their respective operation zones.

"Now, let's start this meeting."

The meeting starts with Kyomu sharing the intel that KVL got from Parpaldia.

"The Shadow Division reported that Parpaldia Empire have withdrawn from Altaras mainland, switching their primary force with garrison force of at least 2,000 personnel. The Alliance FOB in Altaras also reported the same thing as well."
"From the diplomatic front, Gra Valkas have recently expanding their joint exercise program with the Alliance. As we speak, they're facing Magus Trio Joint Forces at Seikoushii Military Base located on Meikai Region. Right now, Grade Atlastar is currently patrolling the ocean between their mainland and Leifor."

The one who speaks next is Yukari. Since Yuyuko isn't present, she also speak on her behalf. While all of this is happening, a holo-map appears and shows the movement from both Altaras mainland and Gra Valkas territories.

The Alliance have been expanding their naval activity around Rodenius Continent once the internal situation in Louria has been sorted out. Without a king, the monarchy collapses and a new government took their place.

After assessing the intel that Kyomu shares, Okina asked a question.

"So, how much do you want me to keep our information sealed? There's also a possibility that the spies could bring back the books that the Alliance sold at the bookstore."
"The books are alright, and I don't see any problem sharing common knowledge. The one that aren't published, however, are most definitely off-limits. The Gra Valkans most definitely want to know just how more advanced we are compared to them. But thanks to the joint effort between us and ITU (International Telecommunication Union), we managed to put a stop to it."
"Ah, right... They should be glad that they didn't meet Epsilon Army."
"So, the objectives remain the same. We'll carry on our usual activities, but stay vigilant for any possible threats, no matter how miniscule it is. Is there any report regarding the Southern Superpower?"

Now it's Yukari's turn to share the intel she has.

"Since that area is my responsibility, I'll show you."

She then displays the current movement from the Southern Superpower (Annonrial Empire) via the holo-map.

"Several task forces from Epsilon PsiCorps detected multiple marine lifeforms guarding the Southern Superpower. And we all know that they have isolationist policy to prevent any outsiders from coming in. It's almost like Sakoku, now that I think about it. No one besides the Alliance aware about this."

Looking at the holo-map of Branchel Continent, Kyomu smirks.

"Hoo... I see..."

From the satellite images that has been procured all these months, the technological disparity between Branchel Continent and Bushpaka Latan, the Alliance knew that they weren't the only one hiding their true technology level in Shoukan Dimension. It's telling that the PsiCorps became alarmed when they approached the vicinity of Annonrial Empire. Regardless, Yukari managed to secure a position inside, so it won't be a problem.

"I'll tell the Epsilon Proselyte to send a force to keep an eye on the Southern Superpower. I'm sure he's aware about the danger of exposing the technologies that Epsilon acquired here. I'll also speak with him about a joint operation between his intel forces and my shikigamis in Branchel Continent."
"Alright."
"If that's all, then we'll end this meeting."

While the Sages were discussing their intel operations, Yasei and Reimu talk with each other about the situation in Altaras.

"Well... We've done it. I have to admit, we made a somewhat dastardly move by not extending the Council invitation offer to Altaras, and Parpaldia got the land."
"All things considered, I think we made the right choice. At the very least, we still have a FOB in Altaras as insurance and they can return in the future."

Yasei can only sigh as he hears Reimu's answer.

"I suppose so. One reason for me to instruct SAO Veterans to not tell the Altarans about Shoukan Defense Council is because I want to respect their national integrity. Like you said though, at least we managed to secure a land for the FOB and even able to add the airport into the treaty. Still, the Parpaldians became restless once they found out that the resistance movements still exist. Perhaps we can use that as a path to liberate Altaras from them."
"It somewhat backfired, but like a certain Slavic country, they're not yet lost."
"Mazurek Dąbrowskiego." (Poland Is Not Yet Lost.)
"That one. To think the Outsiders actually gave up on the diplomatic front with Parpaldia... I got the feeling that they're trying to find anything that might be our weakness. If they did this back on Earth... Well, the Saderans are proof of that hubris."
"True, that. Regardless, they're going to invade Fenn next. We already have a sizable force present there."

The conversation between them continues.

"One way or another, this cold war between the Alliance and Parpaldia will gone hot. And since we already have a base on Altaras, we can contact the resistance and coordinate our movements with them. Due to their geographical location, we can use it to our advantage by invading Esthirant from there. I'd say we go for it once we repel their next invasion."

Parpaldia will invade Altaras regardless of the Alliance's stance. At the very least, the royal family survives to see another day.

"And it's not like they have something that allows them to instantly obtain information about Princess Lumies. I heard that King Taara XIV planned to abdicate because of guilt, and he decided to let his daughter take the mantle. It will be in our best interest to both honor his wish and hide her true identity until the time comes. Of course, the rest of the Altarans can stay for the time being."
"Hmm..."

News from Altaras FOB says that the resistance groups started appearing, and Parpaldia Empire decided to quell all of them, only to be beaten by the soldiers that can teleport at will. Unknown to Parpaldians, these soldiers are part of Chrono Legion, one of UNM elite units. The moment the first resistance is spotted, the Legion teleports to the location and beat the invasion force before then guiding them to the FOB. This actually forced Parpaldia to replace their invasion force with their garrison force.

"We can go with that. However, I don't think telling the resistance that the King is actually alive is a good idea. So I'm glad that you suggested it. Alright, then. Let's do this."

Since the Alliance already established diplomatic relation with Altaras, their embassy is now being used as the seat for the government-in-exile. As of now, the Chrono Legion are still dilligently looking for any resistance groups and consolidate them all at the FOB for better coordination.

It felt as if it were all a long dream. Born as a princess, she was raised by a strong father and a loving mother. Despite being royalty, she was made happy by both of them as if they were a normal family. After her mother passed away, she was cherished by her father so as to fill in the gaps in her heart left by her mother. However, her happiness did not last very long.

The Siltras magic gem mine was to be given up and the princess was to be enslaved. It was an extremely unreasonable demand but since the kingdom's survival hung in the balance, it was a demand they must not fulfill. Her father, King Taara XIV, so as to not bring unhappiness to her, refused the Parpaldia Empire's demand. He was questionable as a king, but as a father, he was the best. As for what happened in the conflict with Parpaldia, she saw her father's expression, and knew that they lost.

She then noticed herself crying…

Then, Lumies awoke from her long slumber.

A bright, white light shone on the ceiling above and the room felt unauthentic.

'Where am I?'

"!"

She let out a yell as a painful headache gripped her. As if hearing her, Lilceide then burst into the room.

"Princess! Thank goodness you've awoken!"

While Lilceide was relieved, there were dark rings around her eyes.

"Where are we?"
"We're in a hospital in Historia mainland. You were struck by an arrow laced with poison from a scorpion. In any case, I'm glad you're alive!"
"Where is everyone? Where are the others?"
"The Tarcos was pulled by Historia ships and is now safe in Port Maihark in Qua-Toyne. Everyone is currently in a place called Tobichi. The 31 who were injured are also receiving treatment in a hospital at that place. We're currently in their capital, Rairekishigaku."

Knowing that everyone is alright calmed Lumies's heart. It was saving grace that Historia Alliance didn't turn them down.

"Really... So they didn't throw us back out..."

Lilceide then changed her tone as she began to explain to her what happened.

"With your permission, I spoke to their Department of Foreign Affairs (Advent Outsiders United) in your place. For the meantime, the Alliance would aid us. Additionally, for your safety, they've suggested keeping your status as Princess of Altaras Kingdom hidden while you will stay here as a foreign exchange student from Qua-Toyne Principality. As for us... Simply put, we'll be staying at the residence area they provided..."

Silence. They didn't have much of a choice. Still, this condition seemed to come with goodwill. Lumies herself noticed.

"Even Historia wouldn't want to hold close something that could spark a conflict with a superpower. We could say that this is a sound decision. Considering that it did not amount to them kicking us out, only time will tell what comes next."
"Of course."

It wasn't on point though.

While they talked, a nurse reported that Lumies had regained consciousness, prompting the doctor to come. After an examination, it was determined that Lumies could be discharged after three days.
