Maggie burst through
her cousin's door.
"David, something has to be done about
that man!"
David looked up from his chemistry lab.
"Who?"
She
snorted. "Who else? Michael Cambias."
"He needs to
be dead, but we can't do that-"
"But we can!"
Maggie interrupted him, sitting down next to him. He gave her a quick
look.
"Look, I know you want to kill him, we all do, but
actually doing it-"
She was exasperated. "Who will then?
Everyone is thinking the same way you are. Nothing is ever going to
happen to him at this rate! That monster is never going to get what
he deserves!" She flopped down in her chair, tired, worried, a
bit shaken from her encounter with Michael.
David looked at her
sympathetically. "Maggie, he is going to get what he deserves.
Everyone's time comes around...and with him, I know it will come
soon."
She shot him a look. "David, please. Did you look
in a crystal ball to get that information? He has done so much harm
to so many people..." she felt herself shake, her voice crack.
Just being around him the way she was...I should have just
strangled him. Not kissed him. She swallowed.
"Maggie?"
She jerked out of her thoughts to see David standing over her, a
worried look on his face. He crouched down next to her. "Maggie,
has he done anything to you?"
She looked surprised. She
didn't realize she had given so much away in her demeanor. "Nothing
like what he did to Bianca-"
"Then he did something."
David stood up angrily. "Maggie, Michael Cambias sexually
harassed you!"
"I'm going to kill him!" Came a
voice from the doorway. David and Maggie looked up to see Aidan. His
face was filled with hate. He turned towards Maggie.
"Maggie,
I need you to tell me everything he did to you."
She shook
her head quickly. "No! I mean-well, it was not like he raped
me!"
"That doesn't matter!"" David intervened.
Aidan nodded.
"That's right. It is a crime whether he
touched you inappropriately or forced himself upon you."
"Well,
he did neither." She stood up quickly, turning away from
them.
David and Aidan looked at each other confused.
"I
don't understand." Was all David could say.
She closed her
eyes. Don't be angry with me. "I went over to his
condo," a deep breath, "with the intent of seducing
him."
"WHAT!?" Aidan cried. David couldn't even
say anything. He was too shocked.
She turned around quickly to
defend herself. "I had to make a deal with him to stop harassing
Bianca and her baby. With a man like Michael Cambias, you have to
either offer sex or money..." Her shoulders sagged, "and I
don't have any money."
David came up and hugged her. "It
was an incredibly brave, noble, seriously stupid thing you did. I'm
proud of your strength and your need to protect Bianca. I'm just
glad that that bastard didn't lay a hand on you."
Now,
comes the blow. "Um, actually, he did."
David had to sit
down immediately. Aidan opened and closed his mouth several times
before he just shook his head.
She sighed for the umpteenth time.
She couldn't believe she had breath left. "I let him kiss me.
I thought I could go through with it...but when he put his hands up
my shirt, I-"
Aidan immediately stood up, fuming, about to
head out the door.
"Aidan! Please, don't!"
He
looked at her. David stared intently.
"I broke away, unable
to continue. He was almost laughing. He knew I wouldn't be able to
do it. He even mentioned that I couldn't have sex with the man who
raped my best friend."
"Wait-" David broke in, "are
you saying he confessed to raping Bianca?"
Maggie stood
there, not knowing what to say. "Yes, he did. He just said he
would lie to a judge and jury."
Aidan looked thoughtful.
"Maggie, did you have a recording device or anything with you
that could have picked up the confession?"
She shook her
head.
Aidan and David both shook their heads at a loss.
"Well,
something has to be done about him!" Aidan got up quickly, went
to the door.
Maggie rushed after him. "What are you going to
do, Aidan?"
Aidan smiled at her, ruffling her hair. "You
are so young, have so much of your innocence left. Your spirit and
your beauty would make any man want you." He gave a meaningful
glance to David. David seemed to understand it. "But men like
Michael Cambias come along who take advantage of that, who rip a
person's very soul away." He shook his head. "We can't
let him do that any longer."
With that he left. David
couldn't help but feeling like someone was ready to take the fall.
Maggie couldn't help but feel like Michael was going to finally get
his due.
