Arrogance
Disclaimer: Don't own Kain. Or his pretty legs or his armour. Or his eyes.
Kain is, as usual, on his own. He really has nothing better he could be doing. So he sits, swinging his armoured legs a little, waiting. Waiting for something to happen. But whatever it does that is going to happen, doesn't happen. And the vampire slips (unintentionally) off the brick wall he had so delicately arranged himself on and falls to the (thankfully soft) ground in an undignified yet pretty heap. Furtively glancing to check whether anyone has seen this, Kain stumbles to his feet, brushing himself down and cursing the wall, himself, and everything else in general, when a movement catches his golden eye.
He is instasntly alert, every muscle tensed to spring, but he relaxes. It is just a cat. Actually, a huge albino cat, with feral, shrewd eyes and a thick coat of dusty white fur. A stray.
In spite of himself, Kain smiles a little. He has always liked cats. Not dogs – they are messy and smelly, clumsy paws skating everywhere, gaping jaws usually open and panting. No, Kain is not a dog person. But he does like cats. He very, very faintly remembers he had a cat when he was a young human. So Kain crouches, holds out a pale hand slightly as a sign of peace, and clicks his tongue.
In an instant, the cat saunters up to him. It glances up at the vampire, yellow eye to yellow eye… and purrs. It weaves around his legs, and Kain strokes the creatures head with a hand that is unused to making such gentle movements. It inclines his head into his touch, eyes half closed. But the slit of gold Kain can see is proud and…
"Just like me," Kain murmurs, sitting down with one leg out in front of him "Such arrogance…" he watches the cat lose interst and wander away. It stretches out a dainty paw and washes itself, all the while staring at the vampire. "A stray, maybe from a loving family…were you cast out as well?"
The cat stares at the vamipre and Kain returns the creature's gaze. After a few seconds, it rises, slowly and deliberately, and walked away with all the grace and haughtiness of a proud Queen.
"But as we both know," sighs Kain, getting to his feet with one fluid movement, "Arrogance makes a fool out of the best of us…"
Authors Notes: Sorry, sorry, sorry. I really don't know what was going on there, so you probably won't. It was a random idea that popped into my head late one night, and I've always thought of Kain as a cat lover. I always think he's a bit like a cat as well.R&R plz!
