Mitsuhide's used to performances and the stress of orchestra nights, but also the joy. There's no greater joy than to be up there on stage with the whole group, as he plays his saxophone, and they all play their own instruments. Or maybe there are greater joys, but Mitsuhide still has a lot of living left.
And there's Kiki, off to the side with her violin, and she looks prettier than any violinist that Mitsuhide had ever seen. She's calm and composed, an expert at playing that instrument, and Mitsuhide feels a great deal of awe as he looks at her, or even when he sneaks a peek to watch her play.
She's incredibly talented, and she's kind with the others though not a woman who talks a lot in general, and Mitsuhide just wants to go over and say hi, to bridge the gap from being acquitances that play together and become perhaps a couple that plays together.
But Mitsuhide's more than a little clueless when it comes to romance, and he's not quite sure what to do at all.
And then one day, he buys a dozen daisies, and tucks them in a vase in the backroom, and hopes that afterwards, he'll have the time to approach Kiki, compliment her performance, and give her the flowers. He has no idea what kind of flowers she likes, would find it weird to ask anyone but her, but he's positive that no matter what the flowers are, flowers are a wonderful gift.
And common at recitals anyway, usually just from the audience to the performers, and still yet, Mitsuhide doesn't want to miss a moment to finally tell her how amazingly talented she is and how in awe of her and inspired by her as he is.
"Oh, Kiki?" He's breathless, half-worried she'll leave, she's standing near an older man that looks kind of like her, must be her father, and he just doesn't want her to leave yet.
"Yes?" She looks confused, and Mitsuhide notes that she doesn't have a bouquet in her hands, no one had come up to her afterwards and given her one.
"You did amazing tonight, as always, and I thought I'd give you something to show for it?" He hands over the bouquet in the vase he'd just bought for it, and Kiki's lips pull up into a smile at it, more amused than awed.
"You know you're a part of the orchestra too, right?" She asks, and Mitsuhide shoots her a look.
"Yeah...?" He answers, a little surprised that she'd ask him such a question, "But you're still an incredible violinist, and I just wanted to let you know that."
"Thank you." And there's the smile softening at the edges and the actual gratitude, though there's still a spark of amusement in her eyes. "I didn't get you flowers though." She tells him anyway, and Mitsuhide almost panics. He didn't want her to feel bad!
"No, no, no! It's okay." Mitsuhide lets out in one quick breath, "You didn't have to."
"Thank you." Kiki looks down at the vase, "Why are they in a vase?" People usually give flowers in that bouquet plastic lining, not already vased.
"I didn't want them to die while we played." Mitsuhide explained, smiling just a little.
"That makes sense." And Kiki looks stunning in this lighting, and Mitsuhide has no idea if she knows that or not. Her hair's pulled up in a nice and neat bun atop her head, and the lighting in this hallway makes it look just a tad more golden than usual, though he's positive that she'd look incredible in any lighting. She always does.
"See you around?" He's suddenly nervous all over again.
"Of course." Kiki answers with ease, "See you around."
And Mitsuhide's left in awe even as they say their goodbyes and wave. There will be practice and more performances, and Mitsuhide hopes they'll get to talk even more now.
