"Muru's Chant" And "Who You Really Are"
Vanellope was climbing up another cliff when she made it to the top and took a breather for a bit while also feeling tired and hot.
Vanellope: What am I doing? I'm running away, but I have no idea where I'm going. I've got to get out of the sun.
After she said that, the raven flew in her direction which made her gasp and wonder if it was following her.
Vanellope: Are you following me?
It landed on top of a dead tree and showed her a cave next to it so she could cool off.
Vanellope: A cave. At least it'll be dark and cool inside.
She went in as far as she could get without the sun shining on her and laid down to take a little nap. She was sleeping a few hours when she heard some noise that was further inside the cave. She got up and went to inspect where the noise was coming from. As she was getting closer, she fell through a big hole and into a cavern where she heard the noise which turned out to be singing. As she was coming closer, she saw a male brown field mouse sitting on a stone slab covered in crystals and singing some kind of chant.
Mouse: "Praise for the red dawn"
"Grass that we walk upon"
"Praise for the river's whispered tune"
"Praise for the Wind Brother"
"Praise for the Earth Mother"
"Praise for Father Sun"
"And Sister Moon"
"Praise for Father Sun"
"And Sister Moon"
"Hey-ya, hey-ya, hey-ya"
While he was singing, Vanellope started moving her head back and forth in rhythm and started howling, as well.
Vanellope: "Aawooo!"
Mouse: "Hey-ya, hey-ya, hey-ya"
Vanellope: "Aawooo!"
Once they finally stopped singing, the mouse had started complimenting Vanellope's singing which made her nervous for a bit.
Mouse: Your singing is quite beautiful.
Vanellope: Oh, thank you. Sometimes I just can't help myself. I'm sorry. Did I interrupt you?
Mouse: Oh, no! I love to hear wolves sing. It's one of your specialties.
He then began moving around while aligning some small ice crystals in certain areas. While he was doing that, Vanellope started arguing with him about her not being a wolf. The mouse though, wasn't afraid of her and kept on aligning the crystals where he wanted them to be.
Mouse: You also have such a keen sense of smell. Such wonderful creatures you are.
Vanellope: I'm not a wolf.
Mouse: Oh! Then that is why I'm not afraid of you. Why should I be afraid of one who does not know who she is?
Vanellope: I know who I am. I am Vanellope, daughter of Ralph and Felix, who happens to be a purebred Husky. Who are you?
She gave him a low growl, but it didn't phase him at all. What he did though, is that he kept his cool and introduced himself.
Mouse: I am Muru, son of Kahu and Quilac, both of them simple field mice. This answer tells us what we are, but not who we are.
Vanellope: Okay. Then how do I find out who I am?
After she asked that, she heard Muru moving around again and started asking what he was doing. He answered her when he started making light with the ice crystals from the light of the sun coming from a small hole in the ceiling. The light showed a lot of pictures of different animals on the walls and floor which intrigued her.
Vanellope: What… are you doing? Wow!
Muru: I am shedding light… where darkness lies. When every creature in the world is born, a spirit stands beside them.
Vanellope: Why?
Muru: To light their way through the long, dark night… and sing them songs to guide them.
Vanellope: Why?
Muru: Because each of us has a destiny that sets us all apart. The path is different for you and me, but the journey begins in the heart.
He then began singing with more voices singing with him while moving the crystals around to change the pictures. Vanellope was watching a caribou running and a fish swimming. It then changed into owls, a bear roaring and a wolf howling.
Muru: "You must go to the East"
"Go to the West"
"The road is rocky"
"And the way is far"
"It's a dangerous trail"
"A difficult quest"
"If you want to know"
"Who you really are"
"There are voices all around you"
"Comfort and to guide you"
"Fathers and teachers"
"Powerful creatures"
"And a voice"
"That sings inside you"
Then the voices and pictures became very scary and the pictures on the floor started to come closer to Vanellope which made her back up.
Various Voices: "Or you can"
"Turn back around"
"Run along home"
"Back to the place"
"Where your friends are"
"Perhaps that is best"
"You need the rest"
"Who wants to go"
"On a dangerous quest"
"Unless you want to know"
"You truly want to know"
"Unless you want to know"
"Who you really are"
The pictures then began changing into wolves repeatedly and Vanellope kept on looking back and forth. The voices then repeatedly sing only one phrase eight times.
Voices: "Who are you"
"Who are you"
"Who are you"
"Who are you"
"Who are you"
"Who are you"
"Who are you"
"Who are you"
When the voices began fading away, Vanellope began asking Muru something, but she couldn't find him. His voice then echoed throughout the cave which made her look around.
Vanellope: Muru, are you my spirit guide? Are you here to help me?
Muru: Have faith and trust yourself. And make the journey.
Vanellope: Muru? Muru?
She walked to the wall and took a closer look at one of the pictures that looked like a field mouse. That's when she realized that it was Muru on the wall. She was a little bit shocked at first but then accepted it. She then started to look for another way out of the cave.
