The third match had begun, and Tuffnut began firing slime across the pipes, and Ingrid injected her earphone jacks into the ground to hear the enemy team.
"The stage works for them," said Bjorn. "With Tuffnut setting traps and Ingrid on recon, this could be way worse. Like a real pain."
"Plus, there's Calder's strength and Snotlout absurd flames," Yale added. "It's a super balanced team; we shall assume we're dead if we mess up at all."
"None of that crap matters; let's just slash them all to pieces," said Jack.
"We'll take them by surprise; the early bird catches the worm," said Wendy.
"Currently, Class A and B and neck and neck when you look at the stats, but while they may seem evenly matched, the truth is Class A's victory was mostly down to Bard, so it barely counts," said Blood King. "I think we all know what that says about them."
"You've got to stop voting for your class, Mr Blood!" Class A complained.
"Blood sure is hot-blooded for someone who has the ability to control blood," said Midnight.
"He always loves his students… a lot," said Forge.
"A little competition is good, but he does take it a little too far," Stoick agreed.
Eret then approached his students. "Start complaining."
"What?" said Clueless turning on him. "But sir, this is a legitimate protest!"
"Is this how you will active you mess up in a real fight?" Eret asked. "Class B is creating countermeasures and plans to win. Blood is speaking the truth, which means technically he's beating me."
"Not surprisingly, these troublemakers can't hack it!" Cael laughed as he looked at Class A. "Why? The reason you get caught up in so many disasters is because you're immature!"
Kaia then approached him and smacked him on the head, knocking him out cold before dragging him away.
"Class B has been training hard every day to become stronger," Forge agreed. "But Class A still has plenty to offer."
"Considering the remaining teams have a pair of powerhouses, we could expect to come back from them," said Stoick.
Snotlout had taken the lead and was practically leaving his team behind.
"Why can't you keep up?" he yelled at Ingrid, who was finding it difficult to catch up with the rest of her team.
"I'm trying to listen for sounds while I run!" Ingrid yelled.
"You better not fall behind!"
"He's expecting people to follow him as usual," said Calder.
"He hasn't changed much since the Sports Festival," said Tuffnut.
"From a certain point of view, he is cooperating… sort of," Ingrid pointed out.
Earlier, Snotlout began giving orders to his team.
"Listen up, just follow me when it starts," said Snotlout.
"That's not exactly teamwork," said Tuffnut.
"Yeah, we are supposed to work together," Calder pointed out.
Snotlout ignored them. "I'll take the lead and head straight towards the fight. Look alive! You free had better be ready to support me…" He then pointed directly at Ingrid. "… especially you! Make sure you keep track of the enemy!"
"Hey, I have a name, you know," said Ingrid.
"Are you going to charge?" Tuffnut asked. "'Cause, the other team looks really good at counter-attacks. Ingrid is a recon pro; we should just hold back. Play it safe and wait for an opening."
Calder nodded in agreement.
Snotlout, on the other hand, looked at them fiercely. "Idiot! That's exactly what they're expecting us to do. We're not waiting for the right moment; we're making our own opening. If we get eyes on them, we've won. Got it?"
He then tossed them three grenades, and they quickly fumbled around with the explosives.
"What the heck, man?" Ingrid panicked.
"Take those just in case," said Snotlout. "They don't pack much of a punch, but they can be useful. One more thing…"
Snotlout's teammate with desperately trying to catch up with him, not entirely confident with his plan.
'Not much of a plan,' said Ingrid. 'Is this going to work?'
Snotlout then saw something fly out in the distance. "Got you!" He then quickly fired a blast of flames and landed on one of the pipes. "Confirmation!"
"On it!" said Ingrid as he inserted her earphone jacks.
"They should be around here somewhere," said Snotlout. "Find them!"
Ingrid began listening in, but she could hear a large amount of noise coming from different directions, making it impossible to pinpoint their exact location.
"What's taking so long?" Snotlout asked.
"Hang on," said Ingrid as he tried to concentrate, there was just so much noise it was impossible, and she immediately realised what was happening. "This is a trap!"
"Hi," said a voice next to Snotlout. Snotlout quickly turned and saw a mouth hovering next to him. "…and bye."
Snotlout swung his fist at the mouth, but it quickly pulled away and then purple pieces began flying towards him.
"I used Ingrid's searchability against you," said the mouth with Wendy's voice. "Smart, huh?"
It was, in fact, Wendy who could split her body into multiple pieces. At the moment, she was able to split her body into 50 different pieces at a time and control them at will. It was for this mainly instant that she had called herself Lizary.
Floating directly over the battlefield was a single eye that was observing them from up high. She then began sending the pieces of her body at Snotlout, who tried to push them back from the flames and attempted to get away from them. However, she merely had the body parts continue to follow him.
"Cheap move," Snotlout muttered.
Tuffnut immediately covered the entire place with slime creating a sort of barrier around himself and the others.
"Snotlout, down here!" Tuffnut yelled as Snotlout flew overhead.
"Nice, that's checkmate," said Wendy as the pieces started to merge together to form her head.
Bjorn then poked his head out and began covering Tuffnut's slime barrier with glue, making it extremely sticky.
"Ow, gross," said Ingrid.
"Oh shoot, this backfired," said Tuffnut. "We've basically built a spiderweb that they've gone and trapped us in."
"Got them," said Bjorn. "I knew Tuffnut and his plan would defeat them."
Bjorn had the ability to shoot out of glue and control how fast it dries. It was for this reason that he chose the hero name Stickman.
Jack then looked down from above, and a pair of blades appeared on his forearms. "To slow villains!"
Jack had the power to produce blades of any portion of his body and had chosen the hero name Jack Mantas.
He then began slicing through the pipes at an unbelievable speed, causing them to fall directly on top of Tuffnut and the others.
'I flew off Ingrid's ability by forming a cacophony of noise around her,' said Wendy as more of her pieces began to form around her body. 'And beyond covered the pipes and slime with glue; one touch and they're stuck for good.'
Calder looked at Tuffnut and Ingrid and quickly stretched his arms out to catch the pipes. 'I'll protect my teammates!'
Certainly, a burst of flames erupted, blowing the pipes away, and they turned to see Snotlout flying directly over their heads.
"Snotlout?" Tuffnut stared.
"Just what I hoped for!" Jack yelled as he launched himself, heading straight for Ingrid. "I'll start with Ingrid!"
However, much to the shock of everyone, Snotlout suddenly appeared, kicking Ingrid out of the way placing himself between her and Jack.
'Hope you're watching because I got an even stronger,' Snotlout smirked and then unleashed a massive explosion right in front of Jack.
Jack was able to protect himself from the worse of the explosion by using his blades as a shield, but the force of the explosion still sent him flying backwards.
'One more thing… whenever you guys are in danger, I'll protect you,' said Snotlout earlier.
Everyone was still stunned by what they had just witnessed.
"Mangaed to block the blast; guess bugs have fast reflexes," said Snotlout. He then launched himself into the air, so he was right in front of Jack, blasting him back with another powerful explosion.
"Seriously?" Wendy stared.
Snotlout then landed on one of the pipes.
"Thank you!" said Ingrid gratefully.
"Shut it!" Snotlout snapped. "They got away. Search for them! It doesn't matter if this is just training; I made a decision! No one will question our victory because our match is going to be flawless. 4 to 0 and no injuries. Understand? That's how someone with actual strength competes!"
"Sorry, what?" said Cael as he rubbed his eyes as he looked at the screen, bewildered. "There must be something in my eyes. It looked like he just protected Ingrid just now."
"Heck, yeah, he did," said Clueless smiling. "By kicking her."
"You're about to see what our Snotlout is really like," said Dogsbreath placing a hand on Cael's shoulder. "Cool, huh? Don't worry; your eyes are fine."
"Are you telling me his personality changed!" Cael roared in disbelief.
"Well, I guess what he did is kinda new," Dogsbreath admitted. "Never seen him put so much on the line."
Astrid noticed that the only person not surprised was Hiccup. "Did you know this was going to happen?"
Hiccup shrugged. "Well, I figured if he can work with me, he can work with just about anyone. We all know how strong he is as an individual, but now we are going to see just how strong he is as a team player."
Jack had managed to soften the blow by sticking a blade out of his back. Once he recovered, he quickly detached himself from the pipe and quickly put some distance between him and Snotlout.
'Not smart to face Snotlout head-on; better stay back,' said Jack.
'If we find him as we expected to, we'll definitely lose this match,' said Wendy as she and Bjorn retreated. 'So we can't capture them, we'll retreat and ambush them repeatedly. It's the only way to have an advantage over them.'
As she fell back, she continued making noises with her pieces, which made it hard for Ingrid to concentrate as she listened with earphone jacks.
"So loud, but there aren't as many," she said.
"Are you sure?" Tuffnut asked.
"And they're moving further away from us," Ingrid added.
"Then they must be trying to regroup," said Snotlout. "Those morons are completely underestimating us."
'Snotlout is the powerhouse of their team; the others are simply following his lead and trying to keep up,' Wendy deduced. 'If we focus on Snotlout and force him to make a mistake, the rest of them won't stand a chance.'
"There are so many sounds in the way, but if I concentrate, I can tell them apart," said Ingrid.
"Let's go!" Snotlout yelled and quickly took off.
He flew across the air until he noticed Bjorn. Upon seeing him, Bjorn immediately ran away and turned round the corner.
Snotlout quickly launched himself at Bjorn, but then jumping out from behind the corner was Yale.
"He was hiding without making any sound!" Ruffnut gasped.
"They turned the tables again!" Agnar panicked.
Yale quickly pulled out some metal rods and began welding them to Snotlout and a pair of pipes trapping him in place.
"Welding complete," said Yale.
Yale could fuse things together at the molecular level; the only problem was he could only do everything he touched. Because of his ability, he had chosen the name Welder.
"They know us too well!" said Tuffnut and fired a stream of slime at Yale.
Yale then quickly jumped down and used the pipes to block Tuffnut's line of sight. "Yeah, like you can catch me with slime with so many pipes in the way!"
"Was this part of Wendy's plan?" Tuffnut asked. "She had everything figured out!"
Calder then jumped in and quickly swung his fists with blinding speed.
"Here comes sugar rush!" Calder yelled, smashing the metal rods and Snotlout's gauntlets, freeing him. "You're good!"
Snotlout smiled and, in waste, a single second, took off after Yale. "You won't stop me, damnit!"
"You don't have to get so mad!" said Yale activating his blast shield and pulling out some metal rods.
However, at the last second, Snotlout fired a blast of flame, somersaulting directly over him. "Handle this guy!"
When the smoke cleared, Yale could see that right in front of him was Tuffnut, who had used his slime to swing over and was carrying Ingrid in his other arm.
"On it!" said Tuffnut.
"You're mine," said Ingrid attaching her earphone jacks into her wrist amplifiers.
She then extended a ear jacks, so the amplifiers were right in Yale's face.
'Whenever you guys are in danger, I'll protect you,' said Snotlout earlier. 'And when I'm in danger, you guys had better save me.'
Ingrid then unleashed her sonic attack right in Yale's face. His last year was only designed to protect him from explosions and blinding light, not sonic attacks. As such, his blast shield was destroyed, and he found himself completely at the mercy of Ingrid.
'Yale!' Wendy panicked and then saw Snotlout taking off after Bjorn. 'No, he's headed after Bjorn.'
She then detached more pieces of herself in her arms and set them straight towards Snotlout, but he merely blasted them away with an explosion. In no time, he managed to catch up with Bjorn, who quickly turned around to face him.
"Not good!" Bjorn cried as he unleashed the web of glue at him.
Snotlout easily destroyed the blue with a burst of flames, smiling down at him evilly. "You never did better than that!"
He then bombarded him with small explosions around his body, leaving him completely dazed, and he quickly flew away. Bjorn was so dazed that he didn't notice Calder, who immediately pinned him down to the ground.
"I've got this guy!" Calder yelled.
Tuffnut and Ingrid and already apprehended Yale, who had fall unconscious due to Ingrid's sonic attack.
"What unexpected teamwork from Class A," said Blood King. "They've managed to take two of my dear students in an instant."
Cael was completely horrified. 'I thought it was a time and you could work with others? Don't tell me he started to mellow out now.'
Ingrid was using her earphone jacks to pinpoint the enemy and immediately pointed one of them to her left. "Snotlout!"
Snotlout followed the direction of her earphone jack.
'He acts on his own accord, and the rest of them support him,' said Wendy panicking. 'I thought we found a small opening. We could widen it slowly until they break down, but look at them!'
Jack was currently fighting in midair with Tuffnut and had just dodged his last of slime. He moved into taken down, but Snotlout suddenly appeared right in front of him, and before he had a chance to react, Snotlout grabbed him. He then spun him around with all his strength using his explosions to gain extra speed, and sent him flying into a nearby building.
'How is this team so in sync?' Wendy panicked as she pulled in more of her pieces to form her body.
"Snotlout trust his teammates, so he doesn't have to do it all alone," said Fishlegs.
"Being in the band loosened him up," said Clueless as he played an air guitar.
"But he still driving the beat," said Dogsbreath pretending to play a drum set.
Tuffnut quickly wrapped his slime around Jack as he fell and then saw one of Wendy's pieces flying right by.
'Wendy's power allows her to split her body into 50 pieces, which she controlled from afar,' he said. 'The parts that leave stop moving after a set amount of time, and then she regenerates them onto her main body. I'm guessing about a couple of things here, but I'm betting she can't regrow those pieces forever.'
During the fight, Tuffnut had made sure to wrap all the pieces he could see, trapping them against the pipes, therefore, preventing them from returning to her body.
'I think she's like Astrid; when she is tired, she probably loses focus. If she split herself as much as she could to make noise, then I think it will only be harder for her to fight a full power. In that case, would she bring some back to her body to reset the timer and save her stamina so she can keep using her power? Ingrid said it sounded as if there were fewer noises around, which just proves my theory.'
Tuffnut has also used his sticky slime to stick the grenade Snotlout had given him to one of the pieces. It flew back towards Wendy, who had just noticed it in time. She managed to pull back just before it exploded.
"That was close," she said.
She then turned her head and was horrified to see Snotlout floating right next to her. He had already extended his arm, preparing the blaster with an explosion, and she knew she had no time to escape.
"No, you're kidding," she said. "How have you changed this much?"
Snotlout then blasted her with an explosion that knocked her unconscious. "I haven't changed. My goal has always been the same to surpass Skullcrusher and become the number one hero."
Moments later, they took Wendy's team to their jail, winning the match with a perfect score.
"The horror… the shame…" said Blood King. "The match didn't even last five minutes. Thanks to unexpected teamwork, Class A wins with today's first perfect score of 4 to 0!"
After the match, everyone began receiving reviews from their home teachers.
Eret merely gave them the thumbs up. "You didn't do unnecessary damage, and you neutralise your opponents efficiently. Snotlout may have taken the lead, but you three supported him. Solid win, great job today."
Blood King, on the other hand, was glaring at his students. "Given how you knew about the other team, you came up with a strategy that should have given you an edge. But you are stuffed on it and needed to be more flexible like Jac."
Wendy looked at her team apologetically. "I'm sorry that I made our team look lame. I failed."
"No, let's carve this loss into our hearts and learn from it," said Jack.
"Yeah, sure," Bjorn agreed.
"If a monster like Snotlout turns into a team player, there's no witness for us to exploit," said Yale.
"Afraid that's true," Jack agreed.
"I agree," Bjorn nodded.
Hearing all this cheered Wendy up a little.
"Snotlout, you can play with others when you want to," said Clueless approaching him. "And Ingrid, you were a total heroin out there!"
"Nope, I'm a hero," Ingrid corrected.
"Our resident delinquent taking in the strays," said Tuffnut.
"Nope, not astray, dude," Ingrid added.
They then stopped when they came face-to-face with Stoick.
"That was very impressive," said Stoick.
"Of course it was; it's me we're talking about," said Snotlout walking off.
"Glad to see that you're starting to work with people," said Hiccup.
Snotlout just walked past him without looking. "Yeah, well, not everyone is as useless as you."
"The more things change, the more they stay the same," said Astrid as she joined Hiccup. "Honestly, it's hard to see how you two are even related."
"I guess it comes down mostly to upbringing, I mean, I was raised by my overprotective father who didn't want me to follow the hero path, and Snotlout's dad practically drilled the path of the hero into him."
"Well, whatever the case, I'm glad it your you," she said and then walked away before Hiccup could respond.
"I'm glad your you?" Heather questioned.
Astrid's face turned pink. "I meant it!"
Cael, meanwhile, was looking at Snotlout with his eyebrow twitching. "What? I can't believe that hysterical rage monster turned out to be a team player. Since when does he strategies?"
"Cael, apologies," said Wendy as her team approached him. "With one win, two losses and one draw, Class B can only hope to tie now."
"What are you apologising for, my dear Wendy?" said Cael dramatically. "Surely our immature compatriot reflected on his actions and evolved. It's a marvellous thing. While it is true that Class B can't win anymore, we still haven't lost yet! The people see when they lose, we will prove our point.
We are hard-working students that will never cause an ounce of trouble. Meanwhile, Class A undeserved attention because of their disasters. Who is on the better path? Everyone is a side character in other people's stories, but we are each the protagonist of our own lives!"
"So what's the plan?" Palma asked.
"You're killing my vibe," Cael glared.
"I think we should do something similar to Wendy's team, even though it didn't work out so well," Lance suggested. "Our team is a lot like theirs was in terms of balance, unlike our opponents. We've got a group that excels with technical powers, so it would be best for us to hide ourselves and attack when we can surprise them. We have five people, so that gives us the upper hand; there's no reason for us to choose close combat."
"There's a difficult fight ahead of us," said Palma. "Don't you think that Hiccup is spooky?"
"He's spooky?" Bard frowned, confused.
"Oh, she loves spooky stuff; it's kinda her thing," Lance explained.
"Okay," said Bard and then looked over towards Hiccup. 'Hiccup, huh?'
"Considering his mobility and combat skills, he is the same if not better than Snotlout," Palma explained. "Additionally, he's the smartest guy in our course and has the highest points score when it comes to leadership skills. He's also got long-range and close-range attacks, plus he has a recon drone. We stumble even a little, and it will end up like the last match; he'll destroy us."
"True," Bard agreed. "So we make Hiccup our top priority. No matter what the others do, we take him down first. At the Thawfest Festival, he did devise a way to counter my brain control but is not as prepared this time. If we use my power in conjunction with Cael's power, I think we can take him."
"A lot of pressure new single me out like that," said Cael. "It's possible that it will be a blank on my end."
"A blink?" Bard frowned.
"Meaning he won't be able to copy Hiccup's powers," Lance explained.
"Oh."
Cael turned to face them. "Well, we will be able to do anything unless we stop him somehow. We're counting on you, Bard."
The teachers then gather together to discuss Bard's performance.
"Match five, it's down to this," said Forge.
"The new guy, how's he doing?" Midnight asked.
"This battle will determine whether he'll transfer into the Hero Course," said Eret. "He's already shown that he can hold his own in the first match, but I doubt he can use the same trick they know it now."
"Plus, he's up against my son, who he's already faced," Stoick added. "This will not be an easy fight."
"Agreed," Blood King nodded.
"The Class A team is fairly stacked; I hope the boy fares well," Midnight noted.
Hiccup's team already making their way to their base.
"Yeah, so we should start by going after Bard, right?" said Agnar. "I'm kinda freaking out about that weirdo. I don't want him to snoop around in my head."
"Don't get too hung up about one member of their team; they've got a bunch of people who can attack from anywhere by surprise without giving away the location, and we make things…" said Fishlegs taking off his helmet and making it float. "…float."
"…Melt…" said Ruffnut squirting some acid.
"…Stick…" said Agnar juggling his balls.
They stood there for a few seconds before becoming utterly crestfallen.
"Not great," Fishlegs moaned.
"Now I'm bummed," said Ruffnut.
"We can't lie in wait… we can't attack…" said Fishlegs.
"All right, we should go with my special pop-off operation and kick their butts," said Agnar.
"No one is going to fall that," said Ruffnut. "We should find them first and get them to fall into a trap. No sweat."
"And I can help with that," said Hiccup.
"What you mean by that?" Ruffnut asked.
"After watching the fourth match, I think the other team will be on guard about me," said Hiccup. "They don't want to repeat Snotlout. Additionally, with Cael's copy ability, he'll be able to copy the powers of his teammates. Plus, Bard will no doubt hide in the shadows and uses voice modifier to try and break up our communication."
"So, how are we going to beat them?" Agnar asked.
"I've already come up with a plan, and if all goes well, it should work, but if it doesn't, we're going to have to improvise," said Hiccup.
"That doesn't sound much like a plan," Agnar pointed out.
"Well, it sounds like a plan to me!" said Ruffnut.
"We've got your back," said Fishlegs.
'After the show, Snotlout put on in the last match, I really got to step up my game,' said Hiccup as he clenched his fists.
"It's now time for the fifth and final training match!" Blood King yelled in the mic. "This one is for all the glory. Are you ready? Do your best into the last student is down. Begin!"
Hiccup and his team then moved out.
