A/N : Now I don't like spoiling my stories, but I feel like I might lose a lot of you if I don't explain some things here. I do plan on making events follow the show's storyline once we catch up to it, and I do not plan, as or volume 7, on making Neo OOC. Now that this is said, I'll let you speculate on how that will happen while I continue on with the story.

As she was running down excitedly through the streets of Vale, Neo thought about her encounter with Ozpin.

He had explained that he had only realized something was wrong fifteen minutes in, when his button activated, and took about as much time figuring out what it was doing.

Neo had been worried her idea was doomed to fail, but the man had explained that, if not for his extensive knowledge of Dust, he would have never even realized something was off.

He had made her an offer. He was ready to pay a lot of money and even give her a Huntsman level scroll if she took the time to explain her contraption so it could be reproduced.

He had then let her go. Neo's head was now filled with questions. How could he offer her a Huntsman level scroll ? She didn't know much about Huntsmen, but she still knew those scrolls were top of the line items filled with military grade technologies.

He was nice too. Too nice in fact. Who actually negociated with a five year old ? More importantly, why did he immediatly assume she had been the one to make those items ? And who would ask a five year old to teach them something ?

They were all questions she didn't have an answer for. Maybe she could ask Roman later ? But that would mean admitting she had left the relative security of his home.

Neo arrived at her destination, the Club. She had copied whatever information she had heard in a small notepad and was now ready to sell it.

Junior was the friend Roman went to in order to gather information on her and help her live on her own. That meant Junior was a broker, whatever that meant. All she knew what that meant Junior would, at the very least, know who could use the information she had, and that meant he would buy it.

Neo barged inside the club and rushed to the bar, failing to notice that Roman was currently at the bar, talking to Junior. She ran to Junior and slapped her notepad on the bar, grabbing his attention.

" What are you doing here kiddo ? " asked Roman as he narrowed his eyes.

Neo finally realized he was there, and blushed as she looked down at her feet. Junior took the notepad curiously and started skimming through the pages.

" Shouldn't you be waiting at home." reproached Roman, " What if someone who knew you had seen you ?"

Neo slumped down some more. Meanwhile, Junior mouth had grown into a smirk.

" Hey Roman, how much did you manage to get this week ? " he asked.

" About five hundred lien why ? It's been a slow week." answered Roman.

Junior moved being his counter and gave Neo a bunch of lien cards. It totalled to a thousand lien. She was extatic.

" Well, seems like the kid earned twice as much in a single day." said Junior, now grinning.

Roman was stumped.

" How ? " he asked.

" Well, I don't know how she did it, but she somehow found info on the few next economical bills that the Council wants to pass. I'll be able to sell that info to traders who'll be willing to pay to gain an advantage." answered Junior.

Roman looked at Neo with clear disbelief. Neo smiled and gave him back the fifty lien she had stolen from him earlier. Roman looked at the lien in his hand at something clicked in his head.

" Wait. You're the reason I was short fifty lien this afternoon." he pointed accusingly.

Neo's smile grew sheepish. Roman finally sighed.

" Well, since you can make your own cash, you're taking care for yourself now. I'll still be nice and pay for the food, but if you want something you'll have to buy it yourself." he said resigned.

Neo nodded.

" Come now. We're going home, and we'll be talking about you leaving the security of the flat and risk getting caught by someone who knew you." said Roman, leaving.

Neo beamed and skipped happily behind Roman, before being held back by Junior.

" Go on ahead Roman, I have to tell the little one something." he said. Roman shrugged and waited outside.

" I'll be honest with you kiddo. What you gave me isn't really worth a thousand lien, but I gave it to you for two reasons." explained Junior.

Neo cocked her head, curious.

" Well first, I wanted to mock Roman a bit, and his face was definitly worth the price." he said, smiling, " Second, consider it an investment in you. You might haven't gotten much this time, but if you can do it again you might, and I want to know you'll come back to me if you do."

Neo smiled and agreed. Junior showed her her notepad.

" I'll copy this, and give it back to you. I'll underline what was important in what you noted so you can learn ok ?" he continued, Neo kept on nodding, " Oh, and one more piece of advice. Don't trust people so easily. If you weren't with Roman I would've barely given you a hundred lien for that."

Neo acknowledged him and waved him goodbye as she left the club, following Roman back home.

Neo decided to talk to Roman about Ozpin's offer over dinner. She wanted to know what he thought about it.

" So let me get this straight... You spied on some rich and powerful people, and when the freaking Headmaster of Beacon caught you he let you go with a job offer ? " he said, astonished.

Neo nodded absent mindedly. She knew Beacon was this big important thing above Vale, but she didn't know what it was for. And what even was a Headmaster anyways ?

Roman thought about it for a while before talking again.

" I think you should take it." he said, " I know you're bored in here, and I'd rather know you're safe than going around in the streets. From what I heard Ozpin's a really chill guy, and you can always trust Huntsmen anyways."

At the word 'Huntsmen', Neo grew scared. She remembered that the man who killed her parents was a Huntsman, and she didn't want to go anywhere near one. She shook her head to show Roman she didn't want to go anymore.

" What's wrong Neo ? " asked Roman.

But Neo wasn't listening anymore, she was furiously shaking her head, scared that she had been so close to another Huntsman. Roman was worried and soothed her by rubbing her back and giving her a hug.

" Listen, I'll come with you tomorrow and meet the guy. Then we can decide together if he's trustworthy or not." he said calmly.

Neo rested into the hug, and nodded.

" Do you even know where you can meet him ? " he now asked.

She nodded. Ozpin had told her he was going to be in the same lounge for the next week or so, negociating with the Council for some law he wanted to pass.

" Then we'll figure everything out tomorrow." said Roman.

Neo grabbed Roman's arm and didn't let go all night.

As promised, Roman accompanied her to the building she had met Ozpin in. When they approached, Roman was impressed by the sight.

" Wait, isn't that the Council Hall ? " he asked.

Neo shrugged, she didn't know anything outside of the fact that most rich people came there to discuss everything important.

Neo walked confidently through the halls, but Roman was a little overwhelmed. To anyone watching them, it would seem Neo was the adult and Roman the child.

Neo didn't sneak around this time, and directly showed herself at the front desk. Ozpin had told her he would make sure they would know to call him when they saw her.

Moments later, a guard told them to follow him through the halls. They walked to one of the VIP rooms where Ozpin was waiting for them, a mug in his hand.

Neo was a bit more afraid, now that she remembered the man in front of her was a Huntsman, like the one who had tried to kill her, but feeling Roman's hand squeezing her own filled her with confidence. She sat on the opposite side of the room with Roman by her side.

" I've looked into you after yesterday," said Ozpin, " and while I would like to know how you came to meet someone that was charged multiple times burglaries, I must first apologize"

Neo was surprised at the man's kind tone and words, but what he said next answered her questions.

" I'm am truly sorry for your parents' death. Reports have showed that they had surrendered and they shouldn't have been killed. The Huntsman that was there was known to hate criminals, but we never thought he would go so far. Please accept my most sincere apologies." he explained.

" Wait, that maniac was a Huntsman ? " shouted Roman. " He was going to kill Neo when I found them."

Ozpin was taken aback from the revelation. He was clearly horrified.

" I am so, so deeply sorry." he said, head hung low," I did not expect you to forgive me before and I wouldn't even forgive myself now."

A long and heavy silence filled the room. Neo stood up and walked up to Ozpin. She grabbed the hand that wasn't holding onto the mug and looked him kindly into his eyes. Neo had killed the Huntsman. She had gotten her revenge and didn't want the pain she felt when her parents died to come back and haunt her.

Ozpin looked at the little girl, and saw emotions that no five year old should be struggling with. But he also saw a girl more mature on the subject of life and death than most of the students he would deal with on a daily basis.

" Thank you." he wispered. Ozpin then looked back up and continued his speech, "I am currently trying to pass a law that would force Huntsmen to go through counseling sessions on a regular basis. As while this event is certainly the worst that ever happened, and rogue Huntsmen are not uncommon, there are a lot more Huntsmen that are starting to lose control of their emotions and attract large packs of grimm as a result."

" I can see how that would be bad." said Roman, " But while the kid might forgive you, I won't."

" And I don't ask any of you to." answered Ozpin, " But I will ask you to keep what you know to yourselves."

" Why? I mean, I'm fine with not telling anyone about it, but I'm wondering why you wouldn't want to." asked Roman.

" The Council doesn't want people to find out that Huntsmen can be as fallible as any other person." explained Ozpin, " which is why I'm having such a hard time getting mandatory counseling sessions for them."

" Obviously, I am not asking you to stay silent for free." continued Ozpin, " I will ignore the fact that you just admitted to another charge of breaking and entering, that your cane is most likely a unregistered Dust weapon, and that you killed a Huntsman, although the relentless stabbing may have been too much."

" Y-Yeah..." stuttered Roman, trying his hardest not to look towards Neo. Thanksfully Ozpin was too focused on him to realize she was starting to shift akwardly.

" And I will make it so you would become miss Politan's official guardian." finished Ozpin.

Neo beamed, and Roman was definitly surprised.

" What ? Why ? I thought you would want to take care of her yourself." said Roman.

" That would be impossible. An active Huntsman cannot adopt a child due to the risks of his profession, and while I could pull some strings to make it possible, the Beacon faculty and myself are too high profile to be able to adopt her." explained Ozpin, " You, on the other hand, are relatively low profile mister Torchwick."

" Should I feel honored that the Headmaster of Beacon knows my name ? " asked Roman.

" You are quite well known to the police force." said Ozpin with a smile, " Why, I've even heard they consider looking over you while you're down at the pretinct to be the most extreme form of punishment there is."

" I try." said Roman, smirking at the thought.

" Back to the topic at hand." said Ozpin, " can I trust you to keep quiet ? "

" Obviously, I mean, if people hear of it I'll go to jail for murder, so I'd rather not." said Roman.

" Perfect." said Ozpin. He then turned towards Neo. " Now about the other topic you actually came here for. May I ask what your answer is ? "

Neo, who was now back to Roman's side, was about to nod before Roman stopped her.

" That's the thing, we have a few questions before that." said Roman.

Ozpin sipped from his mug with a little smile.

" I was expecting that." he said.

" Well then, let's cut to the chase." shot Roman, " How were you so sure Neo was the one who created that little device you were so impressed by, why is it so interesting, and what do you plan to have her do ? "

" All perfectly valid questions." said Ozpin as he took another sip, " I will not explain the details on how I knew she was the one to make it, only that I do. I am more interested in miss Politan's capabilities than the device itself, for as interesting as a new form of ranged communications is, I doubt it would be useful enough to even come close to replacing the CCT. I am, however, interested in helping such a young bright mind into acheiving her full potential. That ties in to your last question, as I plan on having someone teach her all that is known about Dust, in addition to providing her with the best education there is."

" What's the catch ? " asked Roman.

" There is no 'catch'." answered Ozpin, " By educating miss Politan we may be educating the next generation's Dust genius, and I'm sure her future acheivements will bring our society to even greater heights."

" What about any arrangements ? " asked Roman next.

" I understand that the underworld is growing restless because of her parents' death, and I do not wish any more than you do for her to be dragged into it." explained Ozpin, " I, however, cannot let you both on Beacon's ground permanently, so I'm offering for her to be picked up at Vale's airport every morning by one of my staff, where a school Bullhead will bring her to Beacon for the day. She'll be dropped off at the airport once the day is over."

" Uhmmm, everything seems fine, what do you think kiddo ? " said Roman as he turned towards Neo.

Neo nodded her head happily, she was going to learn everything there was on Dust and maybe even play around with it at Beacon, and she would even be able to come back home to see Roman every night. It was everything she ever wanted.

" Well, seems you got yourself a deal, Headmaster."
