merendinoemiliano : Thanks. As for the grimm, they don't have a soul so they don't have aura, and I don't want to add MP because 1-Neo is OP enough as is and 2-It would put a limitation on Maidens, and I don't want that, as a battle of attrition would be to Neo's advantage.

soda-fiedPsycho : we each have our own ideas on what Aura can do. Here, the point is that to hurt a soul, you need a soul, except for grimm. So bullets don't do much and you can be launched through the emerald forest and fail your landing without taking much damage. Aura here, however, does not protect from pain. So you're still gonna feel it.

A/N : I've decided to make a special calendar for this show, as our calendar comes from the Romans and wouldn't make much sense to be used in Remnant.

So I've thought about names for the months and realized that we already had a calendar that had months named after what's literally happing in it, quite fitting for the show if I might add.

The French revolutionary calendar. And I'm not saying that because I'm French (ok maybe just a bit). So I've changed slightly the months' names to fit in English. Here they are :

Vintair, Mistair, Frostair, Snoweese, Raineese, Windeese, Germinal, Flowal, Meadal, Harvidor, Heatidor and Fruitidor.

Just like the revolutionary calendar, each month has 30 days and after Fruitidor there are 5-6 additional days to make the year fit. These days were called, after the War, the Days of Vytal.

For conversion simplicity, every year the 1st of Vintair is the 22nd of September, and there is no equivalent to the 29th of February.

Hope you like it, because I'm going to have so much fun using it.

Just kidding, I don't tend to use dates often. Now back to the story.

After Roman blew up the warehouse and Neo emptied the nearest ice-cream parlor while it's owner was asleep, things started going back to normal.

The gangs that were fighting before now stuck to themselves, afraid that their fate would follow what happened to the Film brothers.

The school year at Beacon soon started, and the staff had to teach the teenagers and young adults that came in drove to the school.

Ozpin had declared that Neo would stay with him, as he was the one that didn't have time constraints and could watch over her, and even teach her a bit. At least that was his argument.

Not one teacher was fooled. They all knew perfectly well that Ozpin was looking for a way out of his responsabilities. Glynda even only agreed to it so long as he did his work properly, and warned that failure to do so would mean that he wouldn't be allowed to spend any time with Neo at all.

So Ozpin was very cranky as he spent his days in his office filing paperwork while Neo played with highly volatile Dust.

Ozpin sighed when he made a green bubble for what must have been the hundrieth time that day to protect both Neo and the highly inflammable furniture that adorned his office as she had caused an explosion wielding fire Dust for the upteenth time that day.

He swore the kid must be doing it on purpose at that point.

Shaking his head, Ozpin went back to his job. He currently had to prepare an early test for the second to fourth years, in order to ensure they hadn't lost touch during the holidays.

Pretty straightforward, and Ozpin wished he could simply re-use what he had made last year, but this test was also meant to help teachers understand what their students needed to improve the most on.

Hence, each test was carefully crafted to fit each team, and even individual students, to a T.

Deep in thought, Ozpin was startled when Neo climbed on his lap. How did he not realize she was already so close ?

Neo looked at Ozpin with a smile, unaware of how bewildered he was at the situation. She then turned around to look at the screens on his desk, reading over the students files.

In fact, the reason why Ozpin hadn't seen her coming was because of a couple new skills Roman had taught Neo following their last incident, stealth and unnoticeable.

Stealth [You can now hide yourself, actively or passively. Stealth against Perception. Roll 1d20 if using actively or set to 10 if using passively]

Stealth mastery [You have mastered the ways of concealing yourself, 5 mastery bonus to stealth checks]

Unnoticeable [Hiding in plain sight does not mean being unseen. By mastering the different ways of making yourself unnoticeable you are much harder to find. 5 bonus to stealth checks when people have no clear idea of where you are]

Thanks to these two skills, and her small size, Neo was now virtually undetectable to anyone that wasn't specifically looking for her. In fact, if she really wanted to, only a few of Beacon's teachers could find her, and none of the students would be able to notice anything wrong with her presence. She had also gained two Dexterity points during her training.

Of course, usually, Ozpin would have still noticed her, but he had gotten used to Neo's presence and was only looking for variations in aura, to know when Neo's next explosion would inevitably occur.

Neo, however, had grown bored of training her Dust skills. When she realized that Ozpin would protect her she had thrown all safety out of the window and used the most unsafe Dust skills she could think of, all of which had been thought of by someone else before as her semblance didn't tell her she had just invented a new skill.

So she had decided to look at what Ozpin was doing, and she didn't quite understand what was so appealing about it. He just read what was on his screen before typing for a while, then repeated. Neo thought there was something interesting in what he was reading, but all she could see was information on the students. Age, class, best subject, worst subject, weapon, and some additional information. She really didn't see the appeal.

Ozpin went back to his work with Neo on his lap. At least there she wouldn't cause any harm with her Dust.

So he read over the next team's files, and Neo read with him. She really wanted to understand what was so interesting that Ozpin would rather do it than play with her.

The team's name was unimportant to Neo, and so was the name of its members. What Neo found important though, was the description of their strengths and weaknesses, and what Ozpin was making of it.

Because Neo soon understood that Ozpin was writing ways to best mess with his students. His tests would first start by appealing to the students' strengths, lulling them in a false sense of security, before crushing their hopes and dreams by striking at their weaknesses.

The worst part was that it would look to the students as if it was a completly feasible task even though it was tailored for them to fail, and that would frustrate the students even more.

Neo couldn't quite grasp the second part of this, but she quickly grew interested in making the tests. Ozpin couldn't help but chuckle inside as he had finally found someone that enjoyed tormenting his students as much as he did.

At some point though, he noticed Neo had started crying. He gently stroked her hair before asking what was wrong.

Neo, still sobbing, pointed at the screen, where one of the student's birthday was written.

" The 9th of Frostair. So that student's birthday is today ? But I still don't understand."

Neo slammed the back of her foot into Ozpin's leg, doing her best to hurt him, to no avail. She then pointed at the 'Date of birth' mention, then at herself.

" Your birthday ? Wait let me grab your file." he quickly said, pulling out Neo's birth certificate from the multitude of papers he had to use to make Roman into her legal guardian.

" Date of birth. Date of birth. Here, Frostair 10." he muttered, before coming to a realization, " Oh. This will be your first birthday without your parents, isn't it ?"

Neo huddled herself into Ozpin's chest and nodded weakly between her sobs. Ozpin wrapped an arm around her and let her cry it all out while he went back to work.

Neo's birthday itself was quite simple. Ozpin wanted Neo to know they were there for her, but not overwhelm her, or worse, make her think they wanted to replace her parents. That was not something she needed right now and it would only make her feel worse.

So they only brought her a cake and some gifts after lunch, exceptionally got Roman on campus, and let her chose who she wanted to spend the rest of the day with.

To everyone's surprise, she chose Harold, the weapon's teacher. They soon understood why though. Neo wanted to build a weapon.

Glynda was completly against the idea. Teaching a child on how to use Dust was one thing, but giving her a deadly weapon or training her to fight was too far.

A promise was a promise though, and Harold was more than happy to teach Neo how to craft her own weapon, just as he was overjoyed with the idea of building a small weapon meant for a six year old.

He was a bit confused when Neo asked for an umbrella, or when she insisted on sewing the canopy herself, but he soon was impressed as he saw the young girl weave Dust inside of her work. There was a lot of patterns, too small to activate more than once before having to be recharged, but it would give her options and make her unpredictable.

Harold was still a sensible man though, so he refused to add the blade Neo wanted to hide inside the umbrella's shaft. He also stopped himself from adding a gun, no matter how much he wanted to.

Not that Neo could use a gun anyway. There was four ways to use a gun, three of which required Aura, and the last option being only useful against non Aura users made it so it was never used in a Hunstman's weapon.

The three other options were as follow. First was to simply project your Aura through the gun. Most light weaponry used this as it allowed their users to keep firing so long as they had Aura.

The second way was to use bullets infused with Aura. This usually meant that the shots were much stronger as you could fill your bullets ahead of time so as not to harm your Aura reserves as you shot. It was also the form used by Aura users that lacked Aura, for a reason or another.

Last but not least was to use bullets infused with Dust. As anyone could easily guess, this allowed to affect the Dust's properties on the bullet, and you could still use the Dust inside to affect your semblance. However, to make this you needed to use the most stable of Dust, as anything else would activate as the bullet was fired, inside the barrel.

So unless Neo wanted to kill some non Aura users, she would never use a gun. And Harold didn't even want to think about that possibility.

Neo's weapon took a few weeks to make. Even if the umbrella didn't have anything special aside from its ability to open and close quickly with the simple push of a button, Harold simply didn't have any parts ready that could be used on an umbrella, much less one meant for a six year old.

Moreover, Harold still had classes to teach, so he could only work on her weapon in between classes. And since Neo wanted to learn how to do it herself, he couldn't pull all nighters working on it either.

Finally though, the weapon was done. It was a lot sturdier than normal umbrellas, as it was meant to fight and not protect from the rain. Neo took it happily and started clumsily swinging it around. Harold had made a great job, and it hardly made any sounds as Neo wacked an imaginary opponent.

" Seeing how beautiful you made the canopy, it'd be more accurate to call it an ombrelle." said Harold.

Neo turned around, curious as to what an ombrelle was.

" It's old Valean. High class women long before the war used to carry little parasols to cast shadows on themselves, protecting them from the sun and heat. ombre means shadow and elle is added to make something smaller or cuter, so it was called ombrelle.

Harold chuckled as Neo came back to him, beaming as she hugged her new weapon.

" You should give it a name." he said.

Neo looked at him, asking silently why.

" Weapons are part of ourselves. So we name them as a sign of respect for what will become our closest ally." he explained.

Neo looked over her umbrella, then nodded happily, seemingly having found such a name.

" Will you tell me ? " asked Harold as he held out a notepad and pen for her to write.

Neo shook her head with a smirk. This was her friend, and hers alone. She would be the only one to know of its name.

The weapon didn't make a sound, just like her. But unlike her, this was by design. Looking over her weapon, Neo made a vow. She might not be able to talk anymore, but she would make that lack of speech a part of her that she could be proud of. She hugged her weapon closely.

This was now her friend, and its name was Silence.

Neo's first planned activity with Silence was combat training. Roman had taught her how to hide, but she wanted to do more than just run and hide from people who wanted her harm. She wanted to fight back.

So she went to Glynda to ask for training. Glynda obviously refused.

After all, not only was Neo only six years old, but she would almost certainly never be able to use aura. And while fighting with aura was dangerous, fighting without was downright suicide.

But Neo was stubborn, and she was dedicated. In fact, while she was with Ozpin reading over student files, she had been noting down students that were using weapons similar to what she wanted to use.

She had a hard time choosing, but settled on spear users, shield users and blunt weapon users.

Now that Glynda had refused to help her, Neo sneakily watched over every student on her list, noting down everything they did that she thought was training. She then emulated what she saw and trained hard.

Glynda saw this, but didn't do anything at first. The training the students did wasn't meant for non Aura users, much less a young child. Any such child would soon give up as they wouldn't see enough improvement to be worth the effort. But Neo wasn't any child.

Neo had an ability, her Gamer semblance. It allowed her to see in real time the result of her training. Every new skill, every increase in her stats, she would know about, and it would drive her forward. Even though some skills were slow to learn, Neo would be perfectly fine in repeating the same action hundreds of times as she saw her knowledge of her skill increase slowly but surely.

As weeks past and Neo wasn't stopping, Glynda eventually folded. While she didn't want Neo to fight, she knew that if she let her keep training by emulating Beacon students, it would end up being detrimental to her health.

So Glynda took Neo under her wing, and planned her training extremely seriously.

And for the first time, Neo met the devil teacher that was Glynda Goodwitch.

For until then, Glynda was teaching Dust weilding thinking Neo would only use it in controlled conditions. She hadn't been training her to fight after all. But now she was, and since Neo wouldn't have Aura to protect herself, Glynda would make sure to go extra hard on her.

Each day Neo would come home exhausted. Every morning she would wake up to sore muscles and would drag her feet to Beacon, but she would never stop. She wanted this, and she could tell thanks to her ability that Glynda's monstruous training regimen was working far better than her previous attempts at copying the students.

It wasn't long until some of Beacon's students walked in on Neo's training sessions, and soon rumors went on about a kid training harder than any of the Huntsmen in training currently in the school. Not to be undone, many students increased their training. By the end of the year, when the 35th Vytal festival, and tournament, was held, Beacon wiped away the competition and brought all eight of their teams to the finals, ensuring their victory.

The following year, Glynda was adamant that Neo get enrolled into elementary school so she could make friends her age. Neo was, quite obviously, against the idea and wanted to keep spending her days at Beacon, but since she didn't need Glynda's or Ozpin's constant supervision for her Dust studies anymore, and that she had just finished improving her wind Dust listening device, she lacked any sound argument to stay.

Which does not mean that she hadn't thrown a tantrum. In fact, with her physical and Dust training, it was probably the most destructive tantrum any soon to be seven year old ever made.

Speaking of her wind Dust invention, Neo had worked with Ozpin during the year to improve on the design. Now the wind Dust on the buttons were only used as an anchor for the main device to link to, upon which it would draw the wind path needed to make sound travel between the two.

This also meant that two devices that had been linked together could now talk with each other, making it a rather secure means of communication, so long as nobody walked in on the wind path, or rather flew into, as Ozpin had changed the automatical pathing to go high in the air before falling down.

The range and battery had been increased too. Now devices could listen for hours on end from kilometers away, and you only needed to recharge the main device on Dust.

With Roman's help, Neo sold one of her devices, linked to buttons scattered inside the Council Hall, to Junior. This gave her enough money to redo her entire wardrobe, make a few combat outfits, and still keep most to be used at a later date.

She had wanted to give some to Roman, but he refused, saying he was already feeling bad from seeing a kid make more in a single transaction than he had made his whole life, and didn't want to feel even worse.

Neo did however manage to convince Roman to take her on some of his heists, and Roman took the opportunity to use Neo's short stature to their advantage. Everything was going quite well for Neo, at least until school started.

Elementary school turned out not to be a fitting place for Neo. Students in her grade were learning how to write, count and read. All skills she had long since learned. Her physical training put her far above her peers, and most of all she had entered the school in second grade, meaning all kids already had found their group of friends.

Of course, that wouldn't usually be too bad, as children at that age are quite curious and willing to interact with anyone new. However, for Neo, that was an issue. She wasn't used to meeting a lot of new people at once, and so she felt overwhelmed when the kids came to her in groups of four or five.

During classes, she could relax. Since she already knew everything she could simply sit in the back and daydream. She had tried sleeping once but was soon admonished by her teacher.

Speaking of the teachers, Neo's teacher clearly didn't like her. She had no idea that Neo's lack of interest for her class was due to her already knowing the subject, and so she was quick to label Neo as a likely troublemaker.

And that proved to be the biggest issue for Neo's stay.

Over the next few days, the kids' interest in Neo changed. At the beginning, she was constantly mobbed by children trying to get to know her, but as she never answered, most slowly started to stop coming over to see her.

Neo was fine with it, she didn't find any point in making friends here. However, that didn't mean all the kids stopped tailing her.

There was two small groups. One of three girls and one of two boys. The girls were insistent on making Neo their friend, to have her "open up" to them. The boys simply wanted attention, and didn't appreciate when Neo didn't talk to them.

None understood the true reason behind her mutism, and they had no reason to. Disabilities that came from psychological trauma wasn't yet recognized officially in Vale, and so Neo had no medical document stating hers.

Of course, when Glynda had signed Neo up, she had told the teachers of her inability to speak, but none took it seriously. To them, since the disability was psychological in nature, it was a simple matter of getting Neo out of her shell and force her to interact with her classmates.

Whether these teachers truly believed to know better that the mighty Goodwitch, of if they were grasping at anything that could offer them a chance to show it up to her, was anyone's guess.

To Neo, this meant that no teacher would come to her aid when children started trying to make her talk.

It started rather innocently. The girls spent their time during recess with her, talking and playing with her. Neo even started to get used to the kids, even though she had yet to acknowledge them as her friends.

The boys would try to grab her attention, or demanded that she talk to them. Thanksfully for Neo, her maybe friends would defend her, although they did so by saying that if Neo was to speak to anyone, it should be them first.

As the year went on, things slowly escalated. Neo's inability to speak meant her teacher couldn't test her on her reading, and although she had to acknowledge that Neo knew how to write, she refused to believe that Neo was up to par on anything else, often saying she was cheating on her neighbours, while they were the ones copying on Neo. This wasn't helped by the fact that Neo held no interest in correcting her.

For the childrens, Neo's "friends" eventually grew tired of her never talking to them, and decided to help the boys with their more forceful methods. Neo would defend herself, but that only made things worse.

The first time she fought back, it was in front of her teacher. The children kept on harassing her with wispers, saying that all she had to do was speak and they would stop. The teacher couldn't exactly hear what they were saying, but she could see that Neo was trying to speak back and smiled, failing to notice the tears threatening to fall.

That smile faded quickly when Neo punched one of the kids in the face, making him, and the four others, shut up quickly. The teacher rushed over and scolded Neo, while looking over the child Neo had hit for any lasting wound. Satisfied when she found none, the teacher had Neo follow her to the principal's office, angry that Neo kept glaring at her through her scolding, not once showing remorse for what she had done.

Since then, Neo had gained a reputation as a violent kid with both childrens and teachers. And since then, the number of kids that tried to make her talk or simply make her regret her life choices only grew. And everytime Neo would crack and punch one of them, her schoolife would get worse.

Everytime that happened, Neo would end up in the principal's office and Roman would be called. However, ever since the first incident, where Roman had defended Neo tooth and nail after she had explained the situation to him, the teachers stopped caring for Roman's opinion and just considered him as one of those bad parents that were spoiling their child rotten.

Over the course of the school year, Roman got Glynda to enroll Neo at another school, but that meant more questions from the kids, and more judgemental looks from the adults. It only made things worse.

One day, she had even ended up fighting against one of the kid's older brother, a first year at combat school that was mad that she had beaten his eight year old little brother earlier that week. The thirteen year old had just barely unlocked his aura.

He had a wooden bat. Thanksfully for Neo, not many students built their weapons before their third or fourth year, so he couldn't bring anything more threatening.

With little warning, he swung his bat at her. Neo took a step back and smirked. She was growing frustrated with all the harassement, and punching kids wasn't cutting it. So she was more than happy when a punching bag presented itself. She had even let him follow her to a dark alley in the shadiest part of town.

The young Huntsman in training growled when he saw his swing miss.

" Stay still. I'll make you pay for hurting my little brother." he said angrily.

Neo rolled her eyes and got into a fighting stance. Thanks to Silence being an ombrelle, her weapon was inconspicuous enough that she could take it wherever she wanted, although she had never used it against one of the childrens before, no matter how bad they were.

After all, why sully Silence when she can beat them all by herself.

Neo gave a short look at Silence again.

Silence : An inconspicuous weapon made by one of the best weaponsmith in Remnant and your first friend.

Proficiency bonus : 2

Shield bonus : 2 to AC

Enhancement : 1 to attacks and damage

Melee damage : 1d6

Skills :

Dust canopy[Your canopy is filled with Dust, allowing you to use its effects whenever you want. You can activate any known Dust skill once]

Then she looked at his bat.

Wooden bat : Just a normal, wooden bat.

Proficiency bonus : 2 to attacks and damage (locked for this wielder)

Melee damage : 1d4

Neo's grin grew wider seeing the difference between the two weapons, and her opponent got the distinct feeling that she was looking down on him, which only enraged him more.

Rupi swung again, and was surprised whe Neo parried his strike with Silence. Seeing Neo take her stance again, he understood that she had gotten combat training.

It didn't deter him, on the contrary. It only made him angrier that someone training to become a Huntress - for that was all you could train to fight for in his eyes - would attack a defensless child for no reason.

Because yes. None of the childrens actually understood that they were harassing Neo, much less doing something wrong. To them, Neo's outbursts of rage and violence were completly unwarranted.

Neo attacked this time, and her forward strike past through the young teenager's guard and struck him in the chest.

-1 AP

He had backed away, so the hit wasn't as hard as Neo would've wanted. He took the opportunity to smack her head with his bat.

-1 HP

Due to him backing away, the strike hadn't been as good either. Neo held her left cheeck, were the attack had landed. It hurted and she could feel tears form up in her eyes. She would probably have a bad bruise after this, but she still smiled. She liked it when they fought back.

Seeing her opponent come back for another swing, Neo quickly went back into her stance and opened Silence to block. Neo then twirled around while closing Silence to swing at Rupi's side.

-4 AP

His aura instantly faded and Neo grinned. However, the teenager didn't stop and swung again. He had felt the pain but Neo's strike had failed to distabilize him. His swing hit Neo straight in the kidney.

-2 HP

Neo winced as she clung to her side. Her opponent hadn't stopped once his Aura was gone, and he prepared to strike again. He hadn't realized that Neo would die if his next swing hit, and probably didn't care enough to make sure he wouldn't break her bones.

So Neo saw red, and activated the Dust weaved into Silence. She first froze the bat as she blocked it, the added weight and sudden frost making the young teenager drop his weapon. Neo followed with a lightning attack that hit his leg.

-2 HP

Rupi screamed in pain and held his leg, falling to the ground. He hadn't felt that much pain in well, ever, and he didn't expect to feel anything that bad after everything he went trough once his Aura was unlocked, even though it didn't block pain.

Fear filled his eyes as Neo towered over him. He started scrambling but Neo wouldn't let him. She activated the fire Dust in Silence and an explosion hit her ennemy's now turned back.

-7 HP

The young teenager dropped head first on the ground. He was still breathing, although weakly, and Neo took the time to observe him again.

Neo looked over the unconscious boy. She felt strange. She felt... bad ? She hadn't felt that way during the entire fight.

When it started, she was pissed and glad she could take it out on someone. When the first hit struck she felt hurt and thrilled. When the second came she felt threatened, almost scared.

But when he turned tail and ran, all the feelings disappeared. She felt empty and her frustration came back. What she had thought would be an outlet for her bottled up feelings ended up only being a temporary fix.

Neo took the wooden bat and used her wind Dust to blow the teenager's body against a wall, trying to get anything close to what she had felt during her previous killd. His neck snapped from the shock and he fell behind a garbage bin, lifeless, but the satisfaction never came.

As she was about to get out of the alley, she bumped into someone.

" Give me everything you have kid." said the person she had bumped into.

She looked up to see a desperate lynx faunus that was currently attempting to mug her. He was looking weak and starved like he hadn't eaten anything in days, maybe weeks. Neo then looked at the bat in her hand and smashed it against his head.

-1 HP

The faunus got knocked to the side of the alley and Neo turned around to face him, not even bothering to observe him.

The faunus lunged forward with his claws out, and Neo smashed the bat straight into his face in a panic.

-1 HP

That killed him, as he slumped next to her, this time, Neo felt the rush she had missed before, and she understood what had been missing. It's only fun when they fight back.

She then decided to leave the bat there before going home.

When she came home, Neo found Roman watching the news on his scroll.

" Today in downtown Vale a young boy, Rupi Winchester, was found murdered in a small alley in a majoritarly faunus district. The VPD's preliminary report suggest that he was assaulted by faunus and fought back since a known violent element and member of the White Fang was found dead close to where his body was found. The Winchester's family known hate and mistreatement towards faunus might be why the thirteen year old Huntsman in training was targeted when he was in the vicinity. The police is still investigating."

" Well damn." said Roman, before he turned towards Neo and saw the bruise on her face as she held her side in pain. He jumped out of his seat and took a bag of ice from the fridge, giving it for Neo to hold on her bruise.

" What the hell happened to you kiddo ? "

If you guys wanna know how Neo managed to not get noticed by Ozpin, here's the rundown :

Neo : 10 for using Stealth passively, 5 from Stealth mastery, 5 from Unnoticeable, 4 from her small size, -3 from Dexterity (which was 4 at the time) = 21

Ozpin : 10 from using Perception passively, 5 from Perception mastery, 15 from level, 5 from Wisdom, -5 from being distracted, -10 from already using Perception to check on Aura levels = 20

Neo's Aura being unusable means in practice that it's stuck inside her body and Ozpin can't see it easily with his Aura sense.

And 21 being higher than 20, Neo went unnoticed by our dear Headmaster.
