Thoughts of returning to school itched nastily at Ginny all summer. But six weeks of her parents cloying protection made everything about Hogwarts seem comforting – the casual friendships, the many distractions from schoolwork and house rivalry.
Mostly, she enjoyed flying.
In autumn, the vibrant leaves matched Ginny's hair. She swept though the sky on a knackered broom, speeding though winds fierce enough to make squinting at the ground difficult, flying recklessly around the castle, crying while thinking of Tom.
During winter, Ginny and Hermione sat together. They occasionally talked in heated whispers, and while still Ginny cried, the pain faded.
