The First War: Recollections
-----
There was a time, not long ago,
When the dark mark shadowed wizards all.
The aurors in a frantic war,
And healers treating the forlorn.
----
There was no freedom, no justice,
When the brave defended us all.
Life was a struggle, bitter and hard,
And families were hungry and poor.
-----
They spoke a dozen different tongues,
Though their dreams were all the same.
But their hopes for a better life were lost,
When dark's invasion begun.
-----
One rainy night, in a grimy bar,
A prophecy was spoken, giving us hope.
"The one who can vanquish the dark lord,
Will be born as the 7th month dies."
-----
That fateful night, on Hallows' eve,
The battle was won.
The price was great,
But the war not yet won.
-----
A little baby, innocent,
Achieved what countless others could not.
The love of a mother,
Bought us years of peace.
-----
But alas, it was not to be,
For the baby suffered years of neglect,
Alone, cold, friendless
While those who survived celebrated.
-----
Remember the past, we must
But many forget,all too quickly,
The lessons learnt
In the days not so long ago.
-----
Now we play a game,
With the old rules and tactics.
But change is a must,
If we hope to survive.
-----
We pledge to fight
For freedom, for justice
For equality and for peace
So that our children will not know the dark shadow of war.
A/N: Okay, what do you think? This is just a poem inspired by and adapted from a poem (or something) which is known to every one of my countrymen (or any PRs). Anyone knows which? This was written around national day one year. (coughhintcough)
To anyone who reads my other story: Harry Potter, Trainee Enchanter, it will be updated soon.
To any potential reviewers and readers: Thank you very much. Ihope you enjoy it and other one-shots are coming up soon.
