Update on Ao3 so go there for a better reading experience.
This is basically a kind of twist on isekai. My first attempt, actually, so I'm not sure how well I've managed to do that. The basis is that Kagome was reborn into Fódlan of common blood and with no Crest where she became an orphan during the royal assassination and Duscur Genocide.
In the aftermath of Garreg Mach's fall, Kagome spends those first few days helping survivors and culling Imperial soldiers. After multiple ambushes on the medical tents, they retreat behind the walls of Garreg Mach's once sprawling town. The houses fill quickly, furniture overturned to make room for beds and clothes used as bandages or tourniquets.
One of the Bishops, who later introduces herself as Cerlia - an older woman with grey in her hair and deep smile lines around her mouth - hands out journals.
To 'help cope', and 'come to terms with what has happened so we may pray to the Goddess easier'. Kagome may not use it to pray to the Goddess but it helps to write out her thoughts, even if it's just random gibberish or messy doodles.
A valkyrie promotes her after learning she was under both Manuela's and the Ashen Demon's tutelage, ("Byleth taught the Golden Deer, and Manuela the Black Eagles, I was in the Blue Lion's class!" - "You've been an adjutant with their students before though, yes?" - "Well, yes, but-" - "No buts, we don't have time for buts, you're promoted, end of discussion.") has her oversee all alternate methods they could use to heal the wounded.
A group of them clean out homes that belonged to nobility, taking any yarrow or sugar they can find. Magic is instead used to summon ice. Tea leaves are ground down to powder. Sugar is poured onto wounds. Sheets are used to elevate wounds. She scours the books that were ransacked from the market stalls, reads through notes that one of the knights managed to procure from a healer's office here in town.
It doesn't lessen the number of injured. Edelgard's troops don't stop attacking, even when it's clear who the victor is.
And eventually, any thoughts of 'why did she do this' and 'how come we didn't notice sooner' disappear alongside the dwindling number of Knights of Seiros.
All she is able to focus on are the bodies left in the wake of Edelgard's revolution.
End.
Note:
- This will be a mix of Azure Moon and Verdant Wind with obvious Canon Divergence.
Kagome's memories of her old life are not a major part of the story nor is the jewel or her powers. There will be mentions of them but until I get to a point in the story that they possibly become relevant, again, there will only be mentions of them. [Kagome's memories of her old life come and go in flashes]
