Chapter 8

The time that had been bought hadn't seemed to be nearly enough. Revy could see the yacht in the distance, far enough away that they couldn't just board them, and it was obvious that not one of them was going to attempt to get to them. The copies of that woman were standing with her on the deck of the Lagoon. All of them were armed, and she hoped that her knowledge of weapons wasn't the extent of her skill.

Luckily they had gotten enough from the bunker to at least slow the yacht down, and she hoped enough to sink it. They were close to that island, it would be a decent swim, but it was certainly a kinder option than just in the open water. She waited, like everyone else, for one of them to jump over the side, or fly above them. They were staying ahead, and she knew that Dutch was avoiding the mines that were holdovers from the second world war. As far as jobs went this wasn't that far off from what they normally did.

The biggest difference was that their clients, and the people chasing them, were monsters. Not the normal human monsters, not like Balalakia, that fuckin' maid, Changlish, or even those two kids were, but instead they were real monsters. Creatures talked about in legend, and the fact that one of them was a living corpse bothered her more than it had a right to. She knew that she needed to focus on everything else, but if that zombie bitch was honestly dead, and since she took her head off to prove the point, then that meant there was more than this life. She didn't know if it meant there was a god, but if there was then he let her get beat and raped for nothing. He could have fuckin' stopped it, and didn't.

The sisters at the ripoff church said that he was a father. Well that fit. Her dad was a bastard, a real mean son of a bitch, and if god was a father as well then obviously her old man had fit the mold. But Rock was different. Was it an off day, or did he mean to put something good and pure in the world only to have it end up in a shithole like Roanapur? Maybe it didn't matter, but she knew one thing for sure. Rock was hers, and she was his. They were going to be together, and once this was over and done with they were going to go on some decent dates.

There'd be sex, and a lot of it, but they'd go out together, do things together. Maybe they could go to a shooting gallery, or there were a thousand other things. It really didn't matter to her. She just wanted to be there with him. To be part of his life. Of course to get there she had to watch that fuckin yacht. She had to make sure that they didn't get a surprise popping up from the water, or flying in overhead.

That bird girl could be dangerous up close, but like Changlish if she didn't give her the chance it pretty much made her useless. The mermaids were great for swimming up to them and surprising them, but a well placed round was enough to take them out. She didn't know about the rest of them, but she had to figure that there could be some like those things in the bunker. That wasn't fun. Sure, fire worked wonders, but it wasn't like they had an overabundance of flamethrowers or even fuel. They had extra fuel, which it would stupid not to carry extra fuel, but that was for when they had to travel without stopping for fuel. Wasting it on one of those Frankenstein wannabes didn't sit right. Explosives worked, but then too much of an explosion could cripple the Lagoon as well. All in all they were pretty much left with trying to cut it apart with gunfire and hoped that worked.

Of course that was if it didn't reach them. She was ready to just be done with this. She really wanted to curl up with Rock, and just forget that the world existed for a couple of days. Maybe they could take some time off when they got back. A couple of days with nothing too serious to do would be fine. Her attention went straight to the yacht when she saw something moving on the deck. It moved toward the back and her eyes followed. For a moment there was nothing, and then she saw the figure just disappear.

She looked toward the sides, waiting, and expecting to see something pop up out of the water at them. Instead nothing came up. She wondered if maybe she had been. Or she did until the water a few meters out violently erupted. Her eyes widened in realization that she had been right, and that the mermaids were finding the mine and moving them.

She wasn't sure if it was killing them or not, but regardless the fact was they were making it easier for the yacht to catch up to them.

"Fuck," she said, "Dutch, we've got to move our asses! Those fuckers figured out how to move the mines away!"

She heard a quick swear, which more or less reflected how she felt, and she felt the old torpedo boat begin to speed up. They still had distance on their side, and if they could make it through the field before those bastards they stood a fighting chance. Of course if it came down to it they'd have to break open some of the party favors they'd gotten from the old Nazi bunker. She would be lying if she said that she wasn't excited to try out some of it.

Sure, it wasn't like she didn't get to play with some of the weaponry anyway, but this was a chance to really let loose. One of the first things she'd do is take a Panzerfaust and use it on the yacht itself. If she hit the side just right it would make a huge hole. That would at least slow them down. If she was even luckier would be enough to completely disable that fuckin' thing and they'd have to wait for reinforcements to come out and get them. Unless of course they came in full force, which would be incredibly stupid.

The Huang Family was moving in circles back in Roanapur that was fairly dangerous. They were holding their own, obeying the established rules, and doing fairly well. It was obvious that they weren't foolish, even though this little trip could be considered on the foolish side. If the Miao Family was the same, then it was likely that the yacht didn't hold all of them, or even the strongest. If the yacht was disabled then it would be likely that they would call in help.

It likely wouldn't be anyone she personally knew, unless of course some of the people she knew were actually monsters. Thinking about it she wondered if Mr. Chang was actually human. His fighting ability, and luck, bordered on the paranormal most of the time. He seemed to escape most scrimmages fairly untouched. Luck had a tendency of running out, but it never really seemed to run out for him. Part of her wondered if maybe he was a wizard or something. If he was, then it certainly explained how he managed to stay in the game for as long as he had.

She stopped wondering when the water exploded violently again. This time a little further back, and further to the side. She could see the yacht moving closer toward them. She growled and walked toward the hatch.

"Someone pass me the fucking Panzerfaust!"

"What?" Benny shouted, "What the hell is a Panzerfaust?!"

She looked to see Rock coming up with it. The antique RPG was already loaded, something that had already been done. He didn't get a single word before she kissed him. She took the Panzerfaust, feeling the weight of it, and unlike its modern brethren it was meant to be heavy. She quickly realized it wasn't meant to be shouldered. It was held under the arm, the aiming target was a long piece of metal with various marks on it. She growled realizing that all of it was in German.

"Rocky-Baby, you read German right?!"

"Yeah," he said, "I can read it."

"Good, right now you're gonna read the instructions to me," she said, "Consider this foreplay baby, this is all foreplay, because I'm going to be honest. Right now I'm so fuckin' hot to shoot this thing that I can't stand it."

He looked at it, "Okay, the marks are in meters," he said, "by aiming it higher you're adding meters to it. So, you have to judge how many meters the yacht is, and then elevate it until you're sure that it will hit."

She looked at the yacht, and then looked at the antique targeting system, "What do you think, three or four kilometers?"

He nodded, "I'd say about three and a half," he replied looking at the yacht, "yeah, three and a half and gaining."

She aimed, "Now, how do I fire the fucker?"

He looked at it, "The lever system activates the launching system," he said, "It should shoot out once it's activated."

She pushed the lever. And the sound was massive. The modern recoilless projectile guns were silent angels next to their ancestor. She watched as the head itself hit toward the right of the yacht, and when it struck it blew a hole high in the side. A moment later the water exploded near the Lagoon itself.

"Shit!" Dutch cursed, "Hold on!"

Dutch had been moving as quickly as he could safely, that was gone now. Suddenly they were rushing forward, and she realized that he was navigating strictly by memory now. If he screwed up they were sunk, but it didn't matter anyway. As effective as the Panzerfaust was, it was limited. Rock had to move out of the way from behind her. The blast behind her was most of the propellant leaving. On top of that the aiming was flawed. It made the distance they were shooting, but the aiming was off. She realized that it was designed for much closer combat.

She could use it again, but there was no guarantee that she would strike exactly where she was aiming unless they were practically right on them. Still, the hole they made would slow them down. There was no doubt about that. Where it was located was high enough to minimize the amount of water it would take on, but low enough that they had to patch it. Hopefully they would think that they could hit them worse if needed.

It would also mean that they would think that was a warning shot. It made her a little angry that they'd think she would give them a warning shot. She dropped the tube, and she felt two arms around her. She wasn't lying about being hot. Firing that thing was practically orgasmic in and of itself. She leaned against rock, her hips grinding into his crotch, and she could feel his interest.

"Rocky-Baby, we've got to get some modern RPGs to carry on board, because that was fun!"

"We've got a crate full of warheads inside."

She smiled, "Good, but we need to let them closer to really do damage," she said, "A good Kryuk would work wonders. Five hundred meter range without any guessing on how to hold it. Just imagine how much fuckin' easier this would be."

One of the copies went downstairs, and a moment later she saw it coming up with another Panzerfaust. She was about to say something when the four of them loaded it, aimed, it, and to her surprise they hit ahead of the ship. She was about to say something when the water around the yacht exploded violently. The realization hit her that the mermaids were moving the mines, but obviously not all of them. It was likely that the Miao family knew about the mines and wanted to leave some as a deterrent against rival organizations using this stretch of ocean.

She looked toward the copies with grudging respect. It was obvious that geisha doll obviously had skill. Her copies, which appeared to be moving ice sculptures, seemed to have her same skill. It was insane to watch. She could see the evidence of what she was plainly able to do, and it surprised her. She had purposefully aimed at the to target a mine instead of targeting the ship. The mine itself was far enough away from the yacht that it wouldn't do more than rock it, but with the hole they punched into it with the first shot it was fairly evident that too many of them could sink it.

The yacht was hanging back, not coming closer, and she was fine with that. Dutch was still opening the Lagoon up fairly fast, and she didn't blame him. Once they were out of this minefield things would be different. Sure, they had weapons, but she didn't know what kind of beings were on that other ship, and what weapons they might have. While she loved a good fight, she wasn't stupid. This wasn't a time to get into a fight just for the kicks.
