Chapter 13
They were clear of the minefield, and because of that Dutch had opened the Lagoon up as fast as it could go. Revy sat ready, her newly acquired rifle loaded, her cutlass ready, and a crate of warheads to be loaded and fired if need be. Rock was beside her, taking inventory, coming up with the ammunition and weapons that were left. She knew that it was kind of a coping mechanism with him, but she also knew that it was for some of the less than legal collectors out there.
There was no doubt in her mind that the weapons, ammunition, and even the crates would sell to the various collectors of antique weapons. Plus there were the collectors that specifically collected anything that was Nazi related. Those sick bastards would pay through the nose for any number of the weapons here. Of course the rifle was going to stay with her. With the discovery that monsters were real it made sense to have something powerful enough to put them on their ass.
"Shit," Benny said, "They're through the minefield, and they're coming."
She looked at him, "How do you know?"
He looked at her and she could tell that he fought the temptation to roll his eyes, "It wasn't hard to get into systems. They've got everything tied to a pretty basic satellite phone system. Once I found the signal it was just tracing it, getting through their basic firewall, and then peeking inside. Unfortunately they're smart enough to not tie the navigation systems to it," he replied, "but their computer systems, scanned documents, and about a thousand hours worth of porn is all there for anyone to see. And their satellite phone does have a very basic global positioning system on it. I'd say that it's accurate within a mile or two. And according to it they're through and coming hard."
She cursed, "Fuck, how fast is the yacht?"
He shrugged, "It's pretty upscale, so I've go to imagine that they've got some serious diesel engines onboard," he replied, "We've got a lead on them, but in a straight out race they're gonna catch us. We really need to get somewhere that they'll run aground or have to go a really long way around."
The problem was she had made this run with Dutch before. He hadn't went to that island that Balalakia used as a layover, but she'd certainly been through here. Finding a place, specifically a place where they could get through that the yacht couldn't would be going pretty far out of the way. She didn't like them being this outclassed, but it made things simpler. Either they found a way to get past the situation, or they didn't.
She wanted them to find a way. She needed them to find a way. She'd just started a relationship with Rock. He'd made her feel like the only woman on Earth, and he'd just used his hands. It was better than she hoped, and she didn't want that to be the extent of it. She wanted share a bed, to wake up a sweaty mess, to know that the sheets would never really come clean, and of course she just wanted to be held.
There was so much that she wanted, and it changed things. She wasn't afraid of death, she never really had been, but she was worried about what she might miss now. She looked toward the crate with the warheads, worse came to worse the Panzerfaust could be used again, but since they knew that they had the weapon it could be possible that they negate its effect. Dodging, attempting to make sure that they overshot, or undershot, and of course if they had similar weapons they might attempt to take out their engines.
They needed the clients, and Xia-Long said he wanted them, but that didn't mean that he wouldn't be above deciding that they were more trouble than they were worth. On top of that she wasn't sure how many were even on the boat. At one point the obvious answer would be to treat it the same as they did that Neo Nazi yacht a few years back, but she was sure that the creatures on that boat were in a different league than those Nazi wannabe pricks.
For one, from what she had heard they were part of a crime syndicate. Not that it mattered that much. Those would-be criminals from Florida weren't that impressive. The fact that they were monsters was a different story. It meant that they would have powers and abilities that none of them had. Sure, her new rifle seemed to be powerful enough to handle what they'd thrown so far, but then again that kraken had been able to handle being shot with it. It was obvious that it hurt him, but it was like he was able to heal from it. It was like watching brand new growth just starting to appear from where he had been shot.
Having help was exactly what stopped it from killing her or anyone else. She didn't doubt for a second that it would have kept its promise of violating her. The rifle was a great tool, and it was obvious that it would help, but she knew that she couldn't just depend on it. Instead she had to hope that everyone together would be able to hold them off.
She wasn't sure about all of their clients, but she figured that if they wanted to get where they were going they would help. Everyone living in Roanapur knew they were dead. It was something of a running gag that everyone was waiting for their bullet to finally catch them. Revy had always been one step ahead of her bullet. Oh, it'd nearly gotten her several times. But she had come out on top, being faster, more resourceful, and sometimes just to stubborn to give into the bullet that was coming for her.
Her metaphorical bullet had nearly been a katana, actual bullets, flame, and earlier the promise of being violated by something with tentacles. The fact that Rock was Japanese, and that something with tentacles was threatening to do that to her, almost seemed ironic. Of course she was fairly certain it wasn't. More than likely it was just a coincidence. She looked toward Rock, and she hoped that her bullet wasn't here to claim her today.
"There may be something," Rock said as he looked at her, "Before we left, the shipping routes, I did notice the areas that were going to be patrolled by military presence. It's a slim chance, but perhaps if we can go through one of those areas we could tie them up with a naval vessel."
She could kiss him, fuck that, she could kiss him, strip him, and do all of the wonderfully delicious things she'd been thinking about for a while to him.
"What do you think Dutch?"
There was a grunt, "Honestly, it might be the best shot. They're going to go after the bigger prize. That's not to say they won't come after us, but they will certainly go after the yacht first."
Rock neared the cabin, "One of the areas is a place where there is supposed to be both United States and Japanese Naval presence," he said, "It's the most likely place for there to be a ship either way."
Dutch nodded, "Sounds good, we can…"
He was about to say something else when something hit the boat. Dutch looked at him, "It was a good idea Rock," he said, "Really, it could have worked."
Revy readied the rifle, it was loaded, the bolt had already been primed, and the moment she got out she had a shot ready. She was hoping that she'd have time for more than one, but at least she would get a single good shot out. She opened the hatch and standing on the deck of their ship was the bird woman. Behind her was another young woman. She was athletic, her build was similar to Sawyer the Cleaner. Her blond hair was pulled into two ponytails, each coming over her shoulder. Her brown eyes were mischievous, and Revy could see the Japanese heritage of the girl. She noticed that she was wearing what looked like a purple halter top, a purple and green plaid skirt, fishnet stockings, two running shoes, and the chainsaw with a heart at the end of the blade was overkill.
The girl blew a bubble with her chewing gum before she smiled and waved.
"Hello!" she shouted with glee, "I'm Router, daughter of my father and master Xia-Long! We've come to take the ship, and I'm supposed to not hurt any of you unless you fight me first. Please fight me, my poor baby is thirsty, and I haven't been able to feed her."
Dutch looked at her, "Well, then we have no reason to fight, but we aren't going to stop either."
She grinned. "Oh, well I can carve up your engines, that'll work, or I can say you decided to fight and carve you up!"
"Router!"
She sighed, "Sis! Seriously! Look at them! They're easy pickings!"
Chyou looked at her and shook her head, "Father said to leave them be. He wants to run experiments on them," she chastised them, "And I will not be letting him know that you ruined that for him."
Router grumbled and kicked the armored deck of the Lagoon, "I never get to have fun."
Chyou shook her head, "But I must ask you to please kill your engines and await for our father to arrive. We are sorry, but we have a contract."
Revy looked at Dutch who smiled, "So do we," he said, "And we've made a name for ourselves by always trying to fulfill our contract."
Chyou smiled, "I see, but one of us are going to have to not be able to fulfill our contract, and if we don't then we could be seen as weak by other organizations," she said scratching her head with that strange digit, "I suppose that the only choice we have is settle this."
She looked remorseful, "It is most sad, I respect someone trying to keep their contract. Know that I will do my best to be as quick and efficient as I can be."
There was a gleeful shrek of joy right before the roar of a chainsaw could be heard. Revy didn't hesitate, she jumped back, and fired her first shot not at the girl, but at the chainsaw. She was certain that the girl was stronger than she seemed, that was the normal thing as of late, but she doubted that she could hold onto what had to be at least a ten pound running machine that was hit with a high caliber round. Her assumption was right as the chainsaw was ripped from her hand, causing her wrist to bend awkwardly for a moment and the chainsaw itself went overboard.
"MY BABY!"
Revy never used the bolt action on a rifle so quick as she did right then. The spent shell ejected and the new one was rammed home. She opened fire again, grazing the girl's leg, causing her to drop to the deck of the boat.
"Ow!" she yelled, "Not Fair! You're not supposed to be so fast, you're just human!"
Revy walked toward her, "That's true, but you don't live long where I'm from if you're slow."
She aimed the gun, and the moment she fired something moved in front of the blast. She watched as the bird girl took the hit in her left wing. She fell to the ground.
"Chyou!" Router screamed, "You're gonna be alright!"
The blue haired, and winged, harpy looked at her sister, "You really are dumb at times, Router," she groaned, "You shouldn't try to show off, just attack."
Revy looked at them both, "Your sister is right, and your mistake just cost you both."
There was the sound of footsteps, "They may be better as hostages," came the reasonable voice of her man, "I mean, if the yacht is catching up we might have to use them as leverage."
She looked at him, "Unless daddy dearest decides that these two are expendable."
Router was looking to her sister, "I'll kill you all with my bare hands before I let you take us hostage," she growled, "She ruined my baby, and then she shot Chyou!"
She didn't get another word before she was frozen. Tsurara walked up from behind them. Her lollipop still in her mouth, "Well, I believe he's right about them being hostages."
