Howard scooped up both an infant duckling and and an infant raccoon-kit that happened to be his ducklings's best friend whom Tivon, otherwise known as the Collector had cloned from him, and his pal, Rocket but he couldn't let two innocent kids become Tivons's, so he had escaped, taking them with him.
"It's okay you two, we're getting our tails out of here, so you two can have a better life." he said getting into a ship, seeing it was bound for Terra, otherwise known as Earth engaging hyperspeed leaving space landing on the roof of his apartment building, seeing both younsters surprised, yet curious as it was somewhere new, exciting.
"It's alright you two, he won't set a paw or webbed foot here, I promise." Howard said pickijg them up gently, taking them to his apartment...
Three tears had passed on the planet since that fateful night when Howard had rescued them from Tivon's cruelty, but today was a big deal for in the Duckman apartment, it was Lindas's thied birthday, which made Howard happy alomg with Shocket as she and Linda were bery close which Howard got yet thought adorable, he had debated telling Rocket about the female kit, knowing she was way happier here, and had gotten up early to go get Lindas's cake, as he had tried making one, which had led to epic disaster besides Shocket eating the ruined attempt, with Linda which they loved, hoping he would do it again, before deciding buying a cake was easier checking on them, relieved they were sleeping since they had been up late playing which he had allowed, knowing it would wear them out kissing both their heads before leaving their room without wakijg them up, or chaos would ensue, like the toaster wihen Shocket had made pop tarts.
Since the apartment was small, Howard had turned his spare room into a bedroom for Linda and Shocket, but had kid-proofed it just in case anything happened, putting on his signature black jacket, grabbing his wallet, writing an note just in case Linda and Shocket woke up and got worried, because they knewhow to read thanks to Tivon, so this was a good thing when he had to leave on short notice, locking the apartment door gently.
After a while, both females awoke, plus were surprised that Howard was not there, finding the note, making Shocket grin deciding to make her and Linda pancakes as it was Lindas's birthday making Linda unsure about this, knowing Shocket was wanting to make herhappy, finding microwaveable pancakes knowing herdad would be okay with them using the microwave, compared to thestove seeing Shocket agree.
"Alright, Ducky, you're the birthday kid hehe." /)3 said kissing Lindas's feathery cheek.
"Yep, us against the galaxy, soulmates for life, til death do us part, through happiness andstrife." Linda replied.
That was something the two of them would say, when in the Collectors's warehouse, when they were sad or hurting, which Howardhad them say many times and knew theywere meantto be, yet they still said it despite being on Terra and before fallimg asleep which Howard always listened out for before going to bed, only Shocket makijg excited noises made Limda curious, seeing the female kit hadfound the rest of thecake thatHoward hadtried baking, giving them a crazy idea because they thought, that Howard had thrown it in the trash, apparently that was a lie smirking.
"How about cake for breakfast instead?" Shocket asked, smirking.
Linda grinned as they put it on plates, digging in with paws and wings, knowing Howard hadtaught them to use utensils but thiswasway more fun, gigglijg just as Howard returned, smirkijg seeing what was going on, hearing Shocket tell him amusing him that she was makimg Limda happy this mornijg as it was her birthday, she wanted Shocket to be included.
He also noticed that Linda was itchy, thinkimg it was the cybernetics, until Shocket's eyes widened in awe seeing little spots appearing on the femaleduckling, not understanding why their dad was freaking out, hearing Linda giggling feeling Shocket scratching her wing gently with her paw, like when their cybernetics itched.
"Please be careful, as she has duck pox, which is makimg her not feel too good, alright?" Howard told her.
"You look adorable with your pops, you know?" Shocket told Linda hugging her.
"Thanks Shockie, dad doesn't agree though." Linda said coughing.
Howard had called somebody for help, since taking Linda to a vet was out of the question, plus Shocket would be distracted with Linda to notice, seeing Rocket come over with the stuff he needed, relieving Howard, hearing giggling, guessing Linda and Shocket were playing dress-up which was good, besides Rocket knew about Linda, he did not know about Shocket knowing how he might react, Shocket might ask questions.
"Thanks, as this worries me, it had to happen on her birthday, I feel bad." Howard said.
"Relax, she doesn't seem too upset, plus it's good it happened." Rocket said.
After Rocket left, Howard saw Linda and Shocket had built a fort, only he noticed that Linda was not feeling so hot, and Shocket was getting itchy too as Linda had shared her germs with her, feelijg bad saying that they needed to rest, makijg Linda understand feeling out of it, following Howard to the living room, making a bed out of the couch, seeing Linda snuggling Shocket whose furry boy was getting covered in the same spots as Linda, seeing Howard calling somebody.
"Sorry I got us sick, Shockie, and dad in panic mode." Linda said coughing.
"It's cool, we can just snuggle, you know?" Shocket replied.
She knew that Tivon never acted like how Howard was acting, so it was nice to have somebody worry about you, so was getting sleepy, as Howard was ordering takeout for the three of them like normal which was making both youngsters happy.
"How come you're around us if we're sick?" Shocket asked.
"You only get the pox when you're little like you and Linda, I had it at your age while having fun with my friend, Rocket so you can't get it again." Howard replied explained.
"Ohhhh okay, but it makes things intresting, right?" Linda asked.
"Yes it does, sorry it wrecked your birthday." he told her.
"It's okay dad, we can try next year." Linda replied.
Shocket was quiet as she had forgotten to get her soulmate a present, knowing that Linda was okay with that since they were not normal little kids as Howard pointed out which they agreed with, yawning deciding to have cake later or for breakfast making Linda smirk as this morning had been a lot of fun as she and Shocket were getting ready for bed, making Howard sigh, he would plan something fun to do with Linda to make up for her birthday getting wrecked, alomg with having to put them in pre-school at a certain compound as he and Rocket had finished the paperwork.
"Their reactions to that should be fun, especially Shockie." he told himself.
He did not regret bringing both youngsters here, as they would flourish, than be Tivons's servants, knowing sometimes, Shocket would make him coffee or she and Linda would clean the apartment when it got messy, as that was stuff Tivon made them do, so was trying to knock that out of them, let them be kids like this morning, hearing a certain thing both youngsters said.
But at midnight, Shocket woke Linda up, saying that their dad had a surprise for her, making Linda curious, as she like Howard loved mysteries following her to the kit hen, seeing her cake with three lit candles, making the female duckling surprised, makijg a wish for both her and Shocket, knowing Shocket might ask her, when they were in their room, only she wanted it to come true, blowing them out, making Howard and Shocket happy, but eating cake getting messy which Howard thought was cute taking photos, to show his parents, as they were curious.
