So, we are still in the middle of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, however, Ariana changes the course of events and some things don't happen. So enjoy this change of events. You can call this a stand alone chapter if you want, but yeah, it does have a place in the timeline. I haven't decided if I'm going to do Ultron yet or not. I do know that the Snap and Blip happen, only because it will bring out more of who Ariana is and how she has grown. What won't be happening is Thor: Ragnarok and the resulting battle from it. Obvious reasons for that. *cough* Loki *cough*
Differences mentioned in this chapter: All of it.
"They're hiding something," said Tony. "Since the party…"
"What?" asked Ariana, walking into the lab.
"You're ex and HYDRA buddy. They're hiding something. I want to know what it is."
"Really, dad? You think everyone is hiding something. Ever since you went through the wormhole…"
"I know I'm paranoid, but it's kept you and Pepper safe. Since your party, both of them have been avoiding everyone, me and you more than the others."
"Bucky has been acting weird every time he looks at one of us. He's not exactly the best at keeping secrets."
"See?"
"Okay. I think they took a jet, so let's follow them. It must be something huge if they keep avoiding us."
"Suit up, kid. We're tracking super soldiers."
"Sounds like fun."
Tony smiled. But When they got to Siberia, Ariana frowned. This looked like a bad idea. She and Tony split up. Normally, she could hear their thought because they shout them at her. Now, she heard nothing. If she tried to hear them, it would alert Bucky and Steve. She had to follow her fellow super soldiers at her own pace.
She entered a room and saw Tony watching a video and looking at Bucky. She stepped in and Bucky's face fell more than it already had.
"Ariana Stark," said Zemo. "The Stark Princess. Just as your father has a video, so do you. What do you remember of your birth parents?"
"Nothing," she said in confusion as she walked to a monitor that turned off nearby. "Why?"
She watched in horror as she saw herself as a five-year-old, being carried by a woman and protected by a man. She recognized him as a former member of SHIELD, one who was almost as famous as Howard Stark and Peggy Carter. Ariana looked back and forth between the screen and Bucky. She gripped the table when the Winter Soldier killed the man and woman in front of the child before picking her up. Young Ariana struggled but he stuck her with something to make her sleep. He took her to the orphanage where Tony found her.
"She will be an excellent subject for the next generation of Winter Soldiers," said the head priest. "I won't let her leave. Heil HYDRA."
The monitor went black. She threw the table towards Zemo's room, though he was no longer there. Sparks began appearing around her hands. She wanted to punch something. Her whole life, messed up by HYDRA.
Tony began fighting Bucky and Steve, snapping Ariana out of her thoughts. Tony went to hit Bucky, but Ariana got between her father and brother.
"Dad, stop!" she yelled. "He's not the Winter Soldier! That was HYDRA, not Bucky!"
"I don't care," Tony said. "He killed my mom."
"So, when you see me, do you see your daughter or Snow White?"
She waited for the answer. Tears formed in her eyes, dreading the answer. He hugged her and she relaxed, but then he blasted Bucky back.
"Dad!" she yelled.
"I only see my little girl, but I only see…"
"The Winter Soldier killed my birth parents, dad! I wouldn't have been in that HYDRA ran orphanage! But Bucky? Bucky is my brother, the one that protected me through everything since my kidnapping! Please, stop!"
But it fell on deaf ears. Tony tied her up to keep her out of the way. Ariana struggled but her worry over Bucky and the fact that she couldn't break the light ropes made it difficult. Steve helped her out.
"Thanks," she said.
"At least you forgive Bucky," Steve replied.
"Bucky didn't do it. The Winter Soldier did. Now, let's go make sure my dad doesn't kill Bucky."
"Right."
They followed after Tony. When they fell to a smaller area, Ariana fell hard. She stood up against a pillar, only to get knocked into it, hitting her head and blacking out. Bucky went to check on her, but Tony threw him away from her.
"Stay away from my daughter," he said. "You won't take her from me too."
"She's my sister and your fighting hurt her," Bucky struggled to say. "She knows it wasn't me, Stark."
The fighting continued until Steve managed to break Tony's chest reactor. He picked up Bucky and began to leave, dropping his shield. Tony looked at Ariana and, with some difficulty, carried her back to the compound.
Loki was there. Tony explained everything, but he was still hurting from the revelation. Loki sat Ariana down on the couch.
"Stark, if you allow me, I can take Ariana to Asgard," he said. "Perhaps we can fix what HYDRA did to here, rid her of Snow White for good. I'm sure the Captain is doing the same for the one-armed soldier."
"So, now you want to take my daughter away?" Tony asked, getting upset.
"To help heal her."
"No."
"Think about what she may want. If there is a chance for her to be free of HYDRA for good, shouldn't we take the chance? You are in pain, but so is she. I can hear her nightmares right now, of the memory she repressed. Coupled with the knowledge she has, it is a war in her mind. Let me help the woman I love, Stark."
"The woman you love is an adult," she groaned. "How long was I out?"
"A few hours," said Tony. "Your precious Barnes left with Steve and without you."
"You didn't give him much choice, dad." She looked at Loki. "I want Snow White gone. The bitch has got to go." She looked at her dad. "The month Bucky was here, Snow White was doing his job. I was doing it. If you see the Winter Soldier in him, you have to see Snow White in me."
"Ariana…"
"I love you, dad. I do. And Bucky will always be my brother. But she needs to be gone. I'm going. Odin wants to see me anyway, so two birds, one stone. I promise I'll have Heimdall update you on my progress." She looked at Loki, who nodded, and she took off her ring and put it in Tony's hand. "This will let him talk to you. And if you need me, just call."
"I'll always need my little girl."
"I'll come back when I'm healed. I promise."
"I'm going to miss you, Ari."
"Take care of mom." Tears fell from her eyes. "And tell Uncle Happy to ease up on security. You're a superhero, after all."
"You got it."
"Be back soon."
Loki pried her away from Tony and helped her outside. He held her tight as he called on Heimdall and they went to Asgard, Tony watching from the compound.
