Chapter Four - Girls Like Girls
Arriving in France, Beca was with her friends exploring and taking selfies in the lobby with Fat Amy, Flo and Ashley. She was feeling so much better after having shared the secret with the other girls. She was lucky they were all together, they were really the only ones she wanted to come out to at the moment.
Fat Amy walked off to talk to Aubrey, who was standing by a window, so Beca walked with Flo and Ashley, but she smiled as she spotted Evermoist make their way into the lobby.
"I see you smiling, I guess good news?" Ruby said, approaching Beca while Flo and Ashley silently stepped away to give them privacy but gave Ruby knowing smiles.
"Yeah, I came out to them," Beca said. "I feel so free, like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders."
"Happy for you, Bella," Ruby smiled before pecking her lips. "I'm gonna settle in, wanna meet by the pool in 20?"
Beca nodded, kissing her again before the tall brunette walked away. Beca felt like a teenager all over again. She sighed in happiness before turning only to see all the Bellas were staring at her with teasing looks.
"Shut up," she rolled her eyes before joining them.
"Smitten," Fat Amy said, making the other girls laugh.
Beca blushed and rolled her eyes. She and the girls went to their rooms, where Beca was quick to settle, use the bathroom, wash her face before grabbing her wallet, phone and the keycard and leaving for the lobby again before going outside by the pool, where Ruby was leaning against a half wall, looking around. She smiled when she spotted Beca and stood up straight.
"Got another secret spot you wanna show me?" Beca asked.
"It's not that secret, actually," Ruby said. "A few blocks from here there is this sort of street fair, a few restaurants, wanna get something to eat?"
"Yes, I'm starving," Beca said.
Ruby smiled, grabbing her hand and going back inside the hotel so they could get out. They walked three blocks where they found the spot Ruby talked about and sat down outside in one of the restaurants.
Beca was so happy to be having a lunch date with Ruby, the brunette was so smooth and sexy and it seemed like she didn't know how much.
"I'm sorry to say this will probably be the only time I have free today, I have rehearsals and stuff with the band," Ruby said.
"I get it, me too, actually," Beca said. "And tonight we have another performance."
"It's okay," Ruby said.
"But we can see each other after the performance?" Beca asked.
"Definitely," Ruby said with a half smirk. Beca tried not to blush as she smiled back at her.
"This is our last performance, how are you guys feeling?" Beca asked.
"The girls are feeling a little less confident after your last few performances," Ruby confessed.
"You really think Khaled is going to pick me?" Beca asked, her voice showed a lot of doubt.
"Yea," Ruby said. "Almost guaranteed."
Beca sighed, looking down at her hands, feeling a blush creep up her cheeks before looking up at Ruby again.
"I know this is gonna sound weird but I hope you're wrong," Beca said, making Ruby tilt her head in confusion. "If Khaled does choose me, I don't think I'll say yes."
"Why not? Isn't that what you came here for?" Ruby asked.
"It's complicated, I don't wanna sing without the Bellas, they're my family," Beca said.
"I understand," Ruby said. "I'm not telling you what to do, especially because nothing's even happened yet but if these girls are really your family, they'll understand."
Beca sighed.
"Thanks," she said with a small smile.
Beca felt her phone buzz in her pocket and picked it up to see Aubrey had sent a group text for them to meet up before their performance. She sighed, sad her date with Ruby had to be cut short but it seemed the girl had also received a similar message because she didn't look too pleased as she looked up from her phone.
"The girls wanna rehearse a bit before tonight," Ruby said.
"Yeah, same," Beca said. "Let's go back to the hotel."
The two got up, paid their bill and started walking back to the hotel, hand in hand. Beca kissed Ruby bye before going up to find the Bellas, who were all in Aubrey's room.
"Okay, now that everyone's here I wanna say something," Aubrey said, standing up.
Beca took a seat before feeling someone nudge her shoulder and she smiled and blush as Chloe gave her a knowing look.
"It's been so great singing with you guys again, I've truly missed it," Aubrey said. "If we don't win tonight, this will be our very last performance, so let's make it count."
The girls tried to hold back their tears because they still had plenty of time together, so they simply smiled and nodded, looking at each other.
oO0Oo
Beca was walking around the hotel with some of the girls, talking and discussing the competition. She was daydreaming about Ruby, not looking where she was going when she bumped into Theo. He asked if he could talk to her and brought her inside. She heard a piano playing rather loudly, paying close attention to what the man was saying, so much so she failed to notice it was DJ Khaled who was playing the piano. She looked at him, rather surprised and starstruck as he spun around to face her.
She was in a bit of a denial, but when she heard she'd been chosen, she was ecstatic. She couldn't wait to tell the Bellas they'd been chosen. Until she was interrupted and it turned out Ruby was right all along: they chose her, not the Bellas.
Beca couldn't believe it and declined. She couldn't do this to her family, she just couldn't. Theo told her to think about it, sleep on it but she just couldn't do it. She simply couldn't. She just left, wondering. She tried to find the girls but they weren't around anywhere, which honestly wasn't that unusual. She knew a few had gone out a bit to do some sightseeing and tried to find them but couldn't. She did run into Ruby, though.
"Hey, Bella," Ruby smiled. The other girls were with her, they no longer threw insults at Beca or the Bellas.
"Hey," Beca said. "Have you seen the Bellas? I need to talk to them."
"No," Ruby said. "Though I did see Amy, I think, going upstairs."
"Thanks," Beca said. She turned around but Ruby grabbed her hand and stopped her.
"Is everything okay?" she asked worriedly with a frown.
"Not really, it's sort of a long story," Beca said. "Khaled picked me."
"So I was right," it wasn't a question, though Ruby had a smirk on her face.
"Yeah and I wanna tell them," Beca said. "I'll talk to you later."
"Good luck and congratulations," Ruby said, before Beca went to the elevators.
Beca went straight to Amy's room and opened the door, but the blonde was busy walking around the room, talking on the phone. She didn't really listen to the Aussie's conversation, her mind was racing, still replaying her conversation with DJ Khaled and Theo in her mind and trying to figure out how to tell her sisters she wasn't doing it without them. She barely noticed she started rambling on to Fat Amy as the girl rushed around, grabbing ropes and outfits.
"Like screw them. It's not, like, the whole story. There's, uh.." Beca trailed off as Amy placed a black bra in front of her, trying to guess the size. "I don't know, I still feel like I want to tell you 'cause I think that, like, secrets are, like, the worst, right? So.."
Beca had the feeling and it wasn't the first time she had that feeling, that Amy was not listening to a word she was saying.
"Yeah, it's the worst," Amy said, rather distractedly as she walked past Beca to the door. "Let's go."
"Go where?" Beca asked as Amy grabbed her arm and pulled her out the door, closing it behind them.
"Don't worry. We'll change in the cab," Amy said.
Beca was utterly confused, even more so that Amy seemed to have clothes that fit her.
"Amy, what's going on?" she asked as they rode the elevator to the lobby.
"Fergus has the Bellas," Amy said. "We have around 30 minutes to get there and save them."
Beca was shocked.
"You dad?!" Beca asked. "What? Why?!"
"He found out I have some money and he wants it, so he's blackmailing me," Amy said.
"So what's the plan?" Beca asked.
"I haven't thought of it, yet," Amy said.
"What?!" Beca asked.
"Give me a few minutes," Amy said.
Beca was so shocked she had almost no reaction as Amy rushed her to the docks and they rented a small boat to get to Fergus' yacht. Beca, of course, was given the task of rowing and she was doing the best she could with her tiny and not very strong arms.
"Amy, what are we doing?" Beca asked, feeling more and more anxious as they approached the yacht by themselves. She figured when they got there, they'd be met with police helicopters or something but there was nothing. "Why are we not calling the police or Chicago?"
"No cops, there's no time. If my dad sees 'em, he'll take off," Amy said, using her binoculars to watch the yacht.
"This is serious," Beca said. "The Bellas could really get hurt."
"Not on my watch," Amy said.
"Amy, come on," Beca said.
"Look, I know my father. I know his guys. Some of them I know, like, really well," the blonde said, removing her binoculars. "And I know that boat, we can do this."
"Okay. What's the plan?" Beca asked, starting to get tired from the rowing.
"First up, I need you to pick up the pace, this boat's not gonna row itself."
Beca would've slapped her if she wasn't scared and tired, so she just worked harder and tried to row faster.
Beca was doing everything so quickly, her heart was racing with fear, she could barely register what was going on. All that was going on in her head was they all could and would die if Amy's plan failed. She tried really hard to focus on singing, since this could very well be their last time singing together.
As they sang for what felt like hours, Beca glanced up, trying not to be too obvious and saw Fat Amy on the glass above them. She danced around the Bellas, trying to get them to go to the sides, opening space for Amy. Chloe and Aubrey seemed to catch on and they helped her.
The glass burst and Fat Amy landed on her feet holding a fire extinguisher, blowing everything on Fergus and his two men. The Bellas started jumping on the water to save themselves while Beca tried to pull Fat Amy away before they were caught up in the explosion. The last thing she wanted was to die in the fire Fat Amy started in order to save the Bellas because the Aussie wanted to keep spraying her father with the fire extinguisher. That would be a tremendously ironic way to die.
As they jumped in the water, the yacht exploded, there were boats from the coast guard approaching them and a helicopter approaching. Beca was never so glad to see those in her life.
