Midnight Madness

"Come on! Don't be a stick in the mud!" Yang shouted at Shiro.

It was a sunny Friday. Birds were chirping, and there were no signs of grimm around the log house they stayed in. Basically everything was perfect.

"I'm sorry Yang but going traipsing through Vale is not my idea of a celebration before going to Beacon." Shiro stuffed more of his clothes into his gray duffle bag he used when traveling with his father. It was going to be a long weekend. Move in was on Sunday, with initiation and orientation on Monday. All Shiro wanted to do was relax. Which brought him to this.

"Look. You are going with me whether you like it or not" Yang suddenly looked cowed, "I….need your help"

Shiro laughed, "Yea, no. That works for Ruby, but you can't pull it off"

Yang scowled, "Traitor"

"Yang! Yang? Yang, where are you?" A curious Ruby could be heard out in the hallway.

"I'm in Shiro's room!" Yang yelled out before Ruby came in holding strings of shells, not struggling at all under their weight despite her short stature.

"Here are the dust rounds you wanted for your gauntlets. Wait, why are you in Shiro's room?" Ruby asked while handing off the rounds.

"She was annoying me"

"Ruby, get this. All I wanted to do was show Shiro around Vale, out of the kindness of my own heart, but he refuses to come with me" Yang said sadly.

Ruby looked at Shiro, "You two can't fight! You'll be going to Beacon together. You need to get on the same team so you can kick grimm butt."

Shiro noticed Yang smirking behind her sister. "Ruby we aren't fighting. She was just annoying me about going out when I don't want to"

"Out of the kindness of her heart"

He started breaking and she knew it "Ruby but-"

"Please" Tears started to form in her eyes

…. "Fine. I'll go with Yang. But I better not regret this. I haven't spent much time in Vale before so I expect a full tour okay?" He said slightly pouting.

"Oh yea! Time to hit the town!" Yang said pumping her fist. "I'll show you the sights. Gonna need to know more than just Beacon to survive in Vale!"

He didn't have time for this. Well, now he really didn't have time for this since he was accompanying Yang. He threw his new jacket on. It felt right. He might not know much about his mother but the fact that she got this for him. It...it felt like she was there with him. Holding him and watching over him.

This was going to be a long day….

Shiro looked over to the girls to see them whispering to each other. He swore he heard a 'you owe me' from the little miss puppy dog face but who knows what they were talking about. He waited a little bit before he spoke up. "Hey are we doing this or what?"

Yang smiled, "Don't worry, We'll get you up to speed" She motioned him to follow her out of the room.

Shiro grabbed his weapon, the handle of the blade pushing out over one side of the blade so he could slide it onto his belt holder. In his hesitation he lost track of Yang. He had heard her walk downstairs but she wasn't in the kitchen. He finally found her staring at something on her scroll in the shed outside. The shed was small, smelling of old wood and bagged fertilizer for Tai's flowers.

"Hey, I'm ready" It seemed to startle her because she jumped before throwing a punch at his face. Shiro was able to dodge it easily, but it still was an interesting reaction for Yang of all people to have. "What is that about?!"

Shiro saw her eyes go from red back to their usual lilac color. "Sorry! Don't sneak up on me"

"Sneak up on you? You told me to follow you!" Shiro said confused about the supposed 'sneaking'.

"Well, you owe me now."

"I owe you nothing-"

"And because you owe me, we'll take this" Yang threw off a tarp that Shiro thought had farming tools underneath, only to see wheels attached to a black and yellow chasey. "Built it myself, with a little help from Ruby"

"No no nonononono. I am not getting on that" Shiro said backing up towards the opening to the shed.

Yang saw ammunition, "Aww, you scared?" She pushed the motorcycle out of the shed, "I call her bumblebee. She's my girl"

"And you can keep her….Not that I'm scared. I'm not scared of anything" He crossed his arms and tried to look as intimidating as he could.

She fired up the engine, "Then prove it. She's mine so I'm driving, all you have to do is hang on" Yang revved the engine, making the bike purr. "This is gonna be great!"

"But, um I-"

Yang frowned, "Do I have to get Ruby again?"

Shiro frowned but got behind Yang, "I hate you, you know that?"

Yang smiled, "You love me"

She revved it again, letting the dust kick in, making them shoot towards the the docks so they could ferry to Vale.

Two girls could be heard. One was excited, the other was screaming for their life.

Naomi was bored. She thought that it would be easy, just do a job for Cinder then get her revenge. She had wrapped herself up in something more complex. So here she sat at the bar of a club called 'Junior's', the center of information in the underground of Vale. It was too loud. Her sensitive faunus wolf ears pounded with the beat of the music from the dance floor. There were so many people. The air made her feel hot through her black overthrow.

Several men and even some women had come over offering her drinks. She thought about some of them, but by the time she had made her decision they had moved off. Go figure, apparently this wasn't the place for patience.

The doors were thrown open as someone came in. Someone loud. "Oh yea! Straight from Atlas and ready to PARTAY!" the girl shouted.

Naomi watched as the girl went from table to table trying to get attention from someone. Some talked to her but ultimately moved away. Others seemed to outright ignore her. Those tables for some reason seemed to have unfortunate accidents at them. A drink spilled on a prissy girl here, on another a guy ignored her to try to hit on a different girl. His pants fell down as soon as he stood up, the girl who caused it tossing the belt clip into the trash when she thought nobody was looking.

The girl caught Naomi staring and smiled.

Naomi quickly looked back down at the bar and her drink. It was some kind of alcohol given to her by one of the many people that tried to hit on her. She had no intention on actually drinking it. She had seen much in the years since her parents were cut down by Adam. Discrimination. Hunger. Desperation. Some she had even seen in herself, some she had regretted while others kept her alive.

"-Hello? Are you ignoring me too?"

A hand waved in front of Naomi's face startling her, though it didn't show on the outside. It was the mischievous girl. Now that she was closer and out of the flickering lights that hurt Naomi's eyes, Naomi got a good look at her.

She had Navy blue hair, obviously dyed that flowed down to below her shoulders. She was small and lilith with the body Naomi would associate with a thief. Even though she wore clothes that screamed 'I'm here to party' Naomi spotted several hidden pockets in the dress.

Naomi could see though that there was no fat on this girl. She was obviously trained by somebody. A threat? Probably not.

"Look, are you just going to keep staring at me? I know I'm hot but come on, give me a break here" She said before her eyes lit up and she pulled out some kind of notebook. "Give me a sec"

Eh, She's a seven out of ten. Good, but Cinder was still better.

"I'm not ignoring you," Naomi spoke carefully. Another blast of music to a new song had Naomi twitch before the music went back down.

"She speaks!" The girl said glancing away from whatever she was writing with her jeweled pen. "I was just asking if it's normally like this here. See I'm new"

Naomi already knew that. It was easy to tell from the girl's entrance. "So am I"

Naomi thought that would at least get the girl to not ask her more questions. Why would she? The girl wanted to know more about the club, and she knew nothing about it.

"That so huh? That combined with the sword and the gun...You're a Beacon student aren't you?! I'm going to Beacon as well...or was confined to it I guess? Eh, It's complicated." The girl spouted out.

This wasn't what she wanted. This girl went from asking about the club to asking about herself. That was worse. She didn't know what Cinder had planned for her. They were obviously here for something, but for all she knew they were going to burn down Beacon, if that was possible. "I don't know"

The girl ordered a drink from the barkeeper. He slid a shot-glass over to the girl. It looked the same as whatever was in her glass, that was for certain. It even smelt the same.

The girl played it off, play slapping Naomi's shoulder while laughing. "Playing aloof hmm. I can have fun too! What'cha say? Wanna have some fun with me?"

The girl had put something inside Naomi's drink when she play slapped her shoulder. The girl obviously knew she had but it concerned Naomi. Poison? No, it changed the smell of the drink in a way Naomi had smelt before.

With a quick sleight-of-hand, Naomi switched their drinks. Just in time.

"Come on! Let's have a drink and then go party!" The girl held up Naomi's glass thinking it was hers. Naomi grabbed the one in front of her. The girl clinked the two glasses together. "To freedom and friendship!"

The girl's eyes lit up as Naomi pushed the alcohol into her mouth. She made it look like she swallowed it while she held it in her mouth. The girl suddenly went white.

"Are you okay?" Naomi asked aloofly.

"Yes...I just...how...I've gotta go!" The girl ran off. Naomi saw her rush into a back bathroom. When she was sure the girl wasn't coming back, she spit the alcohol back into the shot-glass.

Fast acting laxative. She had dosed herself….That was fun.

"Fox!" Junior said coming over while being flanked by his twin bouncer girls, both being six out of tens. Too much makeup. "Torchwick is meeting with your boss in the back. They told me to fetch you"

Naomi nodded, no words spoken. She got up and went to the room she watched them go into earlier.

"-And it is crucial you do what I say. Is that understood Roman? I can only be so...understanding" Cinder spoke softly with danger in her voice.

"Yes. I understand. I'll get Neo to scope out targets just after they get in their shipments. It's easier that way" Roman answered as Naomi went over to the couch Cinder was sitting on.

Cinder didn't glance at her. "My associate here and I will accompany you on the first job, just to see if you are worth it. Pray you are Roman."

"I'm the best in the business! I can guarantee it. You came to the right guy"

"Tomorrow night you can prove it" She waved for Roman to leave. Roman honestly looked more relieved to be walking out of the room than he was when he was sitting down. Naomi swore she felt someone else go with Roman, though she didn't see anybody.

"Naomi, good to see you again. Have fun in the club?" Cinder said with mirth and fire in her eyes.

Naomi stayed silent. She knew Cinder didn't care; that was not what she was called in for. She took Roman's empty seat across from Cinder. She kept her guard up, as she knew Cinder did.

Cinder smiled before continuing, "I want you to get into Beacon. I hear initiation is on Monday. You need to pass that without making a scene. The documents have been handled for you, so you should be registered already as a beacon initiate."

Naomi nodded. It should be easy. She knew she wasn't the best, she had never been to a huntsman training school, but she had one thing most of the initiates didn't have.

Experience.

When you have to survive by yourself in the wilderness against the bandits and grimm of Mistral, you tend to figure out how to fight. Though she still preferred stealth over fighting. She might need a change of clothes to fit in…

"This is after tomorrow night of course. I need to keep an eye on you for a bit longer. You understand."

Naomi understood. She stood up and went to leave.

"And Naomi dear. You are under the same scrutiny as Roman," Fire came out of Cinder's hand before bouncing around her fingers and going back to her hand, "I am not someone to disappoint"

Naomi swallowed. For all Cinder's beauty and grace, she definitely screamed trouble. Naomi's senses screamed to run away. That girl was unnatural. Powerful. Scary. Naomi nodded and left.

She quickly went to the front of the club. She needed to find out what she could about initiation. She was confident in her fighting skills, but if it was a written test she might be in trouble.

As she left she passed a golden haired girl in a tight fitted top that showed off a large amount of cleavage in a yellow and black pattern. She was with some white haired boy. Maybe her boyfriend? The good ones were always taken. Either way Naomi was sure of one thing.

That girl: Ten out of Ten

"What are we doing here Yang?" Shiro asked as they approached a club named 'Junior's'. "This is not what I thought you meant when you said you would 'show me the town'.

"Oh come on! What, you want coffee shops and candy stores? This is where the magic happens." She brushed her hair with her hand, making sure there were no bugs in it, "You'll thank me when you get a little girlfriend at Beacon. Oh wait, you are only fifteen. Are girls still icky for you?" She said it in a mocking tone.

Yang hit a nerve saying that, "I'm fifteen, not five. Anyway, I can get girls without your help thank-you-very-little!"

"Wow, you really are just like your father. No game" Yang said, smirking.

"What was that!?" Shiro yelled not wanting to be compared to his father.

"~nothing~" Yang pushed him forward, "Anyway it was a good idea to bring your weapon. This is the seedier part of town"

Shiro patted his sword handle, "It was the first thing Qrow ever taught me. Never leave your weapon if you go out." Shiro smiled as he remembered some of the earliest memories he had of his father before he was pushed onto Tai.

"Yea whatever." Yang pushed past him, snapping him out of his daze.

Two bouncers were outside the door, letting some people through while pushing others away. Yang winked at Shiro, but before she could work her magic the bouncers were distracted. A girl came running out of the club holding her stomach. She looked sick, her white skin contrasting her blue hair.

"Did that girl come out here? Where is she?" The girl questioned one of the bouncers.

Yang quickly grabbed Shiro and slipped in behind the bouncers.

The doors opened to a large dance floor with a massive crowd of people dancing in the middle of flickering lights and beating music. It definitely got the ambiance right, Shiro was sure of that. "Seriously Yang, what are we doing here?"

"I can't take my little brother out for some dancing? I feel like I should, being your big sis and all." Yang said brushing him off as she seemed to be looking for somebody.

"Are you saying you would bring Ruby here?" Shiro questioned with a raised eyebrow.

Yang's eyes turned red instantly. She grabbed Shiro by the collar, pulling him close so no one else could hear her, "No! She will never come here. At least not for a couple years. Especially not with anybody that hasn't been personally vetted by me. Not my innocent cinnamon roll!"

"Are we talking about the same girl that bragged last week that she killed an entire beowolf pack, by herself I may add, with a giant scythe that she created?"

"Yep. Beowolfs can't hurt her. Not like a boy could." Yang said before spotting who she must have been looking for. "Anyway, you say you can get girls without me? Prove it. Hit on those twins over there."

Shiro looked over at the bar where two girls, one in red and the other in white stood next to a large man in suit. They were….very beautiful. Yang wanted a show, he would show her, "I got this."

He walked up the girls. "Ladies! How are you doin tonight?" He put on a smirk and went easy on the eyes. It was everything he learned from watching his father flirt as he slide up next to them. "Mind if I buy you lovely ladies a drink?

The girls stared at him before looking at each other. That's right, Shiro had them.

They started laughing.

"You are way out of your element here aren't you?" One laughed.

"Like, first time you ever hit on a girl?" the other continued.

Both of them looked at him and answered at the same time, "You couldn't handle us virgin" Then they laughed again.

Shiro was so embarrassed! This didn't make sense. It was everything he learned from Qrow, so why didn't it work? Qrow always talked about his female conquests. It seemed like every one of his stories had at least one girl swooning over the 'rugged huntsman'. He must have done something wrong.

Let's try again.

Before he could he looked past the girls towards Yang. She was...Why was she gripping the man's crotch!? And now he was about to kiss her? Shiro did not need to see this side of his cousin!

Yang punched the man in the face, sending the man through one of the glass towers on the dance floor. Immediately somebody screamed and the people ran towards the doors, leaving a massive group of black suited, red tie bouncers to surround Yang.

Some of them pulled out guns, while others pulled out swords, either way things were bad. Yang's eyes were red as she opened her gauntlets and started wasting the crowd.

The girls that Shiro was talking to seemed to snap out of their laughter when the DJ pulled out a gun and started firing at Yang. She quickly jumped up and finished him off.

"Get out of here kid, we have work to do" Both girls walked onto the dance floor to face Yang. Nope, there was only one way to solve this. Shiro pulled out his scroll and quickly sent a message. He just hope she acted in haste.

"Melanie, who is this girl?" The red one said to the White one while donning hand claws.

"I don't know Miltia, but we should teach her a lesson" the white one, apparently Melanie, answered. Only then did Shiro notice that she had sharp blades attached to her heels.

There was a series of explosions as Yang fired off the new rounds Shiro recognized from earlier that morning.

Shiro ran in as Yang fought with the girls. Yang kicked the white one back. She noticed him. "I told you to get out kid!" She ran back into a fight with Yang. Her sister Miltia went flying through another one of the glass panels.

Shiro figured he would help out. He pulled out his sword and walked over to Miltia,"I would stay down if I were you. She tends to attack indiscriminately when she's angry."

"Kid. Didn't I tell you to get out of here!?"

Shiro rubbed his head. "Unfortunately I'm with her". Dammit Yang. He would make sure she got a mouthful later. This was ridiculous!

The red girl on the ground didn't wait for an explanation. She used her claws to push his blade away before twirling and cutting his abdomen. Shiro managed to bring his sword up in time to block it. He slashed back at her legs, knowing that if she fought with blades on her arms, she would be more vulnerable on her legs.

She must have expected that because she did a back-flip while slashing up with her claws. They missed, but one of the high heel shoes managed to hit him under his chin. As soon as she was up she came back, hacking and slashing like a wild animal. Her attacks were not strong necessarily, but they were constant.

Shiro blocked another strike on his blade while pushing up. It was enough to throw her arms up without giving her the momentum to do another flip. Shiro flipped his blade around and pushed in. The idea was to get a long cut against her side. He noticed that both girls had their aura's unlocked, so if he could push her until her aura broke, she wouldn't be able to fight anymore.

A kick caught Shiro off-guard, slamming against his side and into a wall. The white clad girl Melanie came back over clutching her stomach, obviously hurt even through her aura, but not hurt enough to be out of the fight.

Melanie seemed to be sympathetic for all of three seconds before her sister Miltia went on the attack. Now Shiro found himself on the defensive. He could no longer attack. Every time he pushed one sister, the other would come at another angle, forcing him back.

Shiro heard an explosion loud enough for him to look away and see Yang punch the man she had punched earlier out a window.

"Pay attention!" two voices shouted. He looked back to see a clawed fist and a bladed foot come at him at the same time. They slammed into his chest. He felt his aura flex then give way as he went flying out the same window Yang had just jumped through.

Shiro landed on the man Yang was fighting before rolling off of him. That was not what he was expecting. Everything hurt, especially near his diaphragm, where he was just launched from.

"And stay out!" He heard two voices shout through the window.

"It's a long story" He heard Yang say to someone.

Ruby's face came into view. "I got your message and came as soon as I could. Are you okay?"

Shiro groaned, "Just glad to see my favorite cousin. Thank you for coming." Ruby helped Him up, letting him set the pace as she threw his arm over her shoulder.

"Hey, I'm right here!" Yang said pouting.

Shiro looked between Yang, the broken nightclub, and then Ruby. "My statement stands"

Ruby giggled.

"Last time I take you out for a night on the town" Yang commented while sauntering back towards Bumblebee, leaving Ruby to help Shiro along.

"I'll hold you to it," Shiro grimaced as Ruby pushed him onto the back of the screaming metal death trap before climbing on herself. She was small enough to fit.

Yang rolled her eyes as she slowly and responsibly drove them back towards the ferry docks. Her sister was riding with her after all.

Shiro knew it was going to be a long day.

Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
