Chapter Five

Maya regretted the instant she turned to snuggle up to her husband. She didn't know why she set up herself for disappointment. She opened her eyes to find his side empty just as she did the day before. She stayed still, listening for signs that maybe he was in their bathroom but heard nothing. She sighed, stretching her body out. She knew Josh's parents were arriving soon and his game was a late afternoon game so there was no need for him not to be in bed with her. She sat up, glancing around her room.

"He didn't even leave a note this time," she muttered herself disappointed at the fact that at least last time he left her a note telling her he was going to practice with Hunter. She didn't have much time to dwell because her stomach had other plans that found herself in front of her favorite place. The toilet. She was shocked to find a hand helping her hold her hair back while the other rubbed her back, while he whispered soothing words to her, comforting her.

"You okay?" Josh asked, helping Maya up off the floor, once it she was finished.

Maya took in deep breaths letting them out slowly before she nodded and rinsed her mouth. "I think so."

"Awe, Gorgeous, I was hoping to surprise you in bed with breakfast," Josh told her making her heart melt and regretting her disappointment not finding him in bed. "I was in the kitchen making you favorite breakfast when I heard you," he continued, pulling her to him once she was all done brushing her teeth and wiping her face with a wash cloth.

She gave him a small smile, happy to know he didn't plan on leaving her and was at home with her. "I can't wait for this morning sickness to be over."

"Me too. I hate seeing you sick."

Maya gave him a grateful smile as he leaned down and pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Have you talked to your parents?"

Josh nodded, pressing a kiss on her cheek and then the side of her neck. "Yeah, they should be here in the next hour or two. Are we going to tell my parents about this little one?" he asked, placing his hands on Maya's stomach.

Maya looked down at Josh's hands before looking back up at him and shaking her head, "No," she answered, disappointing Josh.

"Why?"

Maya moved away from Josh's grip. "Now is not the time."

Josh frowned, his eyes on Maya as she walked out of their bathroom and started going through drawers looking for something to wear for the day, "You know we are going to have to start telling people."

Maya glared over in Josh's direction as she squad down to go through her drawers. "I know, but right now is not the time. They are here for your other kid."

Josh sighed, closed his eyes, knowing another argument was on the horizon. He heard the tone in her voice at the mention of Hunter. "Maya I don't want to fight."

"I don't either."

"Then why are you starting one?"

"I'm not!" Maya argued, picking one of Josh's shirts to wear.

"You are!"

"Oh my god, Josh! I can't deal with this right now."

"We have to. We can't keep pushing this to the side."

"I'm not dealing with this right now," Maya slammed the drawer shut, and stood up to face her husband. "I said no. I don't want anyone knowing about the baby until I'm ready," she snapped before grabbing her clothes and walking back into their bathroom and slamming the door behind her.

Maya smiled as she heard the front door bell ring. She heard Josh's footsteps come down the stairs before the woman's voice fill the house. She put the lid on the crockpot wiping her hands on a towel before taking off her apron and going to greet her in-laws.

She fluffed her t-shirt making sure it wasn't sticking at all to her growing bump as she made her way out of the kitchen. She knew she had nothing to worry about because she was wearing one of Josh's team t-shirt that was baggy enough to high her bump and most people wouldn't even notice her stomach anyway, but she wanted to be extra careful. She knew her mother-in-law had an eye to catch everything.

"Dad just leave your bags there I'll get them later."

"Are we going to be introduced to him as his grandparents or?"

She heard Josh instruct as her father-in-law got straight to the point of their visit.

"Of course not!" Amy shook her head, and glared into her husband direction. "Maya, dear" she smiled at the sight of her as she walked into the foyer.

Maya returned her smile as she was pulled into a hug. "Look at you. You're glowing."

Maya felt her heart drop and she forced the smile to stay on her face. She glanced over at Josh who was behind his parents and shook his head and shrugged.

"It must be that honeymoon glow," Alan put out there. "They are still in the honeymoon period."

Amy nodded as the four made their way into the living room. Amy and Alan sat on the couch while Maya and Josh took seats on the loveseat.

"What are we doing about Hunter?" Alan asked, getting straight to the point again. "How are we suppose to interact with him?"

Josh sighed as Maya glanced down at the floor. "You're going to meet him as his coaches' parents today and that's it," Josh answered, causing Maya to look over at him.

"Why?" Amy questioned, causing Maya to look over at her.

Josh swallowed taking Maya's hand into his. "Because Sophie doesn't want to introduce him to us yet as his family. She wants to wait until the end of summer or early fall before telling him that I'm his father. She wants us to get know him and him to get to know us before laying that news on him. We agreed to not rush things and ease me into his life."

Amy made some kind of grunting noise as she crossed her legs and folded her hands in her lap.

"Interesting."

"It's hot out here."

Maya nodded, as she fanned herself with some random flier a kid was passing out in the parking lot. She was thanking the heavens above she wasn't going to be heavily pregnant in the summer because she didn't know if she would survive this heat. The two were sitting on the blenchers in the hot sun while Alan was down next to Josh helping him coach. Maya looked up at the scoreboard thankful they were in the bottom of ninth inning and the end was near.

"One day you and Josh will have a little one out there."

Maya looked over at her mother-in-law and wonder if she knew what she was hiding. First the glowing comment and now this. Maya smiled, "Yeah, someday."

"Soon?" Amy asked, raising an eyebrow.

Maya could feel Amy's eyes staring into her.

"Maya."

Both Amy and Maya turned as the brown hair women approached them. Maya put the smile on she always did at the sight of Sophie.

"Hey," she greet politely.

"Hey," Sophie said back, taking a seat next to her. "I can't believe I had to miss today's game."

Maya gave her a small reassuring smile. Sophie may not be her favorite person but knew if she was in her position and had to miss her baby's ball game she would be heartbroken too. "Hunter killed it today," she told her, softly, before looking over at Amy and hating she had to be the one to introduce the two. "Sophie, this is my mother-in-law, Amy. Amy, this is Sophie."

Amy perked up at the name. "So your Sophie."

Sophie nodded, "I am," she smiled as the three stood up at the ending of the game and made their way down the blenchers. "You may remember me. We met a long time ago," she reminded the older woman with a smile as she looked over her shoulder before the three came to a stop by the gates. "I was with Josh back in New York."

Maya frowned at Sophie's words. She was a one night stand. The way Sophie was talking and the tone of her voice made it as if her and Josh were in a relationship.

Amy shook her head, glaring at the younger dark-haired woman. "No I don't remember you," she said, snippy. "When it comes to my son I only remember the girl who mattered," she replied, nodding her head towards Maya. "I knew right away I needed to remember her name and what she meant to him and the fact he was going to marry her."

Maya couldn't help the warm feeling that rush through her body and the small smile that came to her face at Amy's words.

"I know my son now and I knew my son back then. I knew when a girl didn't mean anything and I knew I had no reason to remember any of them. They weren't worth remembering so why bother?"

Maya stood uncomfortable and she could feel the tension grow as Sophie was now glaring at her mother-in-law and folded her arms across her chest.

"Well now I guess you have a good reason to remember me," Sophie fired back with a smirk. "I am the mother to his son."

"Oh sweetie," Amy chuckled, not backing down. "That's not my grandson and I be damned before letting my son take care of child that isn't his and he has no business taking care of."

Maya's mouth dropped open and she glanced around making sure they weren't making a scene.

"Josh knows Hunter is his son."

Amy lowered her voice into a deep threatening voice that Maya had never heard before, "If you think I'm just going to let some little hussy like you walk into my son's life and pin a child on him that isn't his then you obviously don't know me because it will be over my dead body."

Maya swallowed, as she felt the tension become even thicker between the two. She watch as the two glared at each other.

"Dad's already in the car starting it up to get it cool..." Josh began, as he walked over to the three women. He stared into Maya's eyes. The two holding contact before she glanced between the two other women causing him to wrap his arm around her and pull her close. "Is everything okay?" he asked, carefully.

"Everything is fine, Joshua," Amy answered, forcing a smile. "Right ladies?"

Sophie tried to hide her anger the best she could and agreed. "Yeah."

Josh looked between the two uncertain before looking back down at his wife. "Maya?"

Maya glanced back over at the other women with their fake smiles on before she put on her own fake smile and slowly nodded, "Everything is fine."

Josh stared into Maya's eyes questioning her for the truth. The two breaking contact at his mother's voice.

"Josh, I think you should take your wife home. It's hot out here and it's been a long day. I'll be there in a second."

The other three couldn't help but noticed the emphasis on the word wife. Josh went to question but his mom's look and smile told him to leave it for now. "Hunter is with Brad," he told Sophie letting her know Hunter was his best friend before he looked back down to Maya, "You ready, Gorgeous?" he asked, softly.

Maya smiled up at him before slowly nodding, and Josh removed his arm from around her but instantly took her hand into his.

"I'll be right there," Amy told them as Josh nodded and the two walked away, leaving the other two women behind watching the couple.

"You're not going to ruin my son's family and his future."

"I'm not trying to."

Amy took her eyes off of her son. "You are. I can see it from a mile away. Go find your child's real father because it's not my son."

"I don't want to disrespect you because your my son's grandmother, and I'm not going anywhere."

Amy smirked, "We'll see about that."

"We will."

Did Amy have the reaction you thought she would have? I went back and forth on how to write her with Sophie. Please leave me a review with your thoughts/something you want to see or whatever you want to share. Reviews keep me inspired and let me know you are enjoying the story. Until next time xoxo.
