The Sorcerer's Protector

Bluebox345

A/N: Hello and welcome to my new story! For returning fans, sorry about the long wait between stories, life has been hectic. So, just for some clarification, this story will be a Balthazar/OC story while Arya and Dave are best friends. I picture Arya to look a bit like Katherine Langford. 10 year old Arya looks a bit like Kayla Madison. Her 'theme song', as always, for fun, is Spells Trouble by Brand X Music from the album Xpeditions.

Disclaimer: I do not own Sorcerer's Apprentice otherwise there would have been a sequel by now. I only own my own OC and plot.

Update Schedule: This story will update on the first and third Saturdays of every month.

Summary: When Arya Miller and Dave Stutler go on a field trip and stumble upon Balthazar at Arcana Cabana, they become laughingstocks of their class. 10 years later Dave takes up his calling as the Prime Merlinean and Arya is recruited to be his protector. After all, who's Merlin without King Arthur? Balthazar/OC.

Prologue

Britain

740 AD

The war between sorcerers was fought in the shadows of history and the fate of mankind rested with the just and powerful Merlin. He taught his secrets to three trusted apprentices, Balthazar, Veronica, and Horvath. He should have only trusted two.

Morgana had pulled off a deceitful move against Merlin. She had sent out misinformation which managed to draw Merlin's prized pupils, Balthazar and Veronica, away from Camelot. In even greater fortune, they took a battalion of soldiers with them. She smirked. She loved it when plans came together. But she loved toying with Merlin more.

She attacked the castle at nightfall, after hearing the ring of the dinner bell. The thing about being an all powerful sorcerer was that you were a one-man army. She defeated the outer guard with ease. Morgana loved hearing them scream with pain or plead for mercy. The looks on their faces once they realized she wasn't going to give them any was exhilarating. She marched up to the huge castle doors which had been closed at the first sound of her attacking.

Morgana shook her head at their pitiful attempts to keep her out. "I'm a sorcerer, you idiots." She cackled. Morgana brought up her right hand and held it straight at the doors. A loud groan and the door floated outward and to the side, falling to the floor with a loud crash. She smirked and stalked through the doors, blasting the oncoming soldiers with either plasma bolts or fire, whichever served her fancy at the moment.

She headed for the great hall first. Even though she knew she needed to take out Merlin, there was one individual whom she needed to kill first. She blasted through the throne room doors to face the twelve Knights of the Round Table. She towered over them, and the knights gripped their swords and got into defensive positions.

"For King Arthur! For Camelot!" The battle-cry rang in her ears. She stood still until the first person moved and then she went on the attack. All in all, it took ten minutes for her to kill every single so-called Knight.

Morgana shook her head and tutted, "Pitiful. Just Pitiful. This is what the great kingdom of Camelot had as protectors? Bah."

She turned around to leave but a voice behind her made her freeze, "Morgana, stand down." It was a gruff voice that commanded attention and experience.

Morgana snarled in annoyance but when she turned to face the man, she was smirking, "Long time, little brother."

"Morgana." King Arthur stated, his features grim.

"You know why I'm here, Protector." Morgana practically hissed the last word. It was just like Morgana to acknowledge his title in regards to magic than his title in regards to leadership.

King Arthur tightened his grip on Excalibur, "Yes."

"Then I hope you'll give me a better fight than your so-called knights." She laughed maniacally and threw herself at the King. Arthur did, in fact, give Morgana a fight. King Arthur knew that he couldn't win against his sister, but he could at least do one last thing for Merlin: buy time.

Veronica and Balthazar witnessed the savagery of a sorcerer beyond evil, Morgana le Fay, Merlin's most deadly enemy.

Balthazar and Veronica got word about the attack and immediately began to gallop back to Camelot, leaving the battalion of Camelot soldiers in their wake. They rode hard and fast, bent over their horses to increase the speed. They had been played like fools. Balthazar could feel his heart beating fast, almost insinc with the stomping of hooves from his horse.

He glanced at Veronica who was focused on the road ahead. He allowed himself a long look at his beloved. She was as beautiful as the day they had met. Somehow, Balthazar knew this battle would be different from others. It was that feeling, the feeling of dread that filled up his stomach. He shoved down the feelings to deal with later. Right now, he had to focus on getting to Merlin.

Camelot soon came into view. Normally seeing the castle of Camelot, of King Arthur, gave Balthazar hope. Now, it filled him with dread.

His heart thudded in his chest as they slowed their horses and they took in the damage to the front gates. Balthazar and Veronica shared a look. Bodies of knights and soldiers littered the ground. They were too late.

A burst of fire from Morgana's hands shot down the stairway, incinerating the last of the late King Arthur's soldiers. Morgana steps into Merlin's chambers, looking for the old fool. However, Merlin was hiding behind a wall, having expected Morgana to eventually make her way to find him.

Merlin opened his fingers, prompting nearby braziers to coil around Morgana's arms, restraining her. He jumped from his hiding spot with a sword at hand. Morgana on the hand. Merlin cuts both braziers with focused heat before using both as improvised twin foils to fight the great sorcerer.

While the duel intensifies, Balthazar and Veronica search for survivors inside the castle.

The duel culminates when Merlin corners Morgana at a pillar and seemingly fails to deliver a final blow due to Merlin's sword knocking nearby the wall instead - a distraction for Morgana not to notice her hands magically fuse into the pillar itself.

"We are but servants." Merlin reminded his former pupil, sad that Morgana strayed from the light.

Suddenly Horvath entered the room, "Merlin." He said stoically.

"Horvath!" Merlin responded, but celebrated too soon as Horvath betrayed his mentor and casted the Disperse Spell with his enchanted Sword, freeing Morgana le Fay. Merlin looked at Horvath, his student, "You betray me?"

While Merlin was focusing on Horvath's betrayal Morgana took this time, while Merlin was distracted, to fatally stab Merlin in the torso, "I am no one's servant." Morgana hissed to Merlin who fell to the ground. Morgana then rid herself of her improvised foils and turned to Horvath, "Well done. Now get the spell."

Horvath stalked to Merlin's Encantus and tore the page titled The Rising from it. Morgana nodded, approvingly, "We're done here."

Horvath sent a plasma blast at Merlin's wall, blasting it open to the night air.

Meanwhile, Balthazar and Veronica had split up to cover more ground, searching the castle for Morgana. He heard the sound of a plasma blast and bricks falling. His eyes widened and he sprinted towards the sound which happened to be coming from Merlin's chambers.

Balthazar burst into the room with his sword drawn and before he could even assess the situation Morgana blasted him and he fell to the ground in agony. He lifted his head up and looked up at Morgana who was getting ready to blast him again.

Out of the corner of his eye he saw movement further down the corridor. Balthazar turned his head to see his love, Veronica, standing at the end of the hallway in the process of starting a spell. Balthazar knew instantly what spell she was casting.

Veronica magically binds Morgana's body via the Human Fusion Spell, before gesturing her hands at herself, and then at Morgana while all Balthazar could do was stare at Veronica in horror. As the process completed Morgana's physical body disintegrated. Morgana's soul, which was now inside Veronica, began to choke her on the throat from the inside, attempting to take over her host.

Veronica sacrificed herself for Balthazar by drawing Morgana's soul into her own body. But Morgana began to kill her from the inside.

Devastated at the choice Balthazar had to make, he reluctantly used the Grimhold's innermost layer to seal Veronica away just as her eyes changed into Morgana's.

To save Veronica's life and to capture Morgana, Balthazar trapped them both in the Grimhold, an inescapable prison.

Balthazar breathed heavily and realized that it was over. His senses returned to him and he heard struggling behind him. He breathed in as he realized he had forgotten his Master, "Merlin!" He cried, staggering over to the slowly fading sorcerer. Balthazar knelt down and held Merlin's hand.

As Merlin lay dying, he gave Balthazar his Dragon Ring, saying it would guide him to the child who would one day grow to be Merlin's successor, the Prime Merlinean.

Merlin pulled his dragon ring off his hand and placed it in his Apprentice's hand, "The Prime Merlinean is the only one who can kill Morgana." Balthazar bowed his head. "And the only one who can protect the Prime Merlinean is The Protector. The Dragon Ring and Excalibur will show you who is worthy. That is my last quest for you… my loyal apprentice."

Balthazar stayed next to Merlin's body until sunrise, then began the burial preparations.

As time passed by, the Grimhold filled up with evil sorcerers that Balthazar had defeated. Abigail Williams's container had a brown background around her figure on the Grimhold and Sun Lok had a red background.

Over time, Balthazar fought many sorcerers who tried to free Morgana, trapping them in layer upon layer of the doll. Eventually, he captured Horvath as well.

Eventually, after centuries of pursuit, Balthazar locked Maximum Horvath away in the Grimhold. As he battled the sorcerers, he searched all over the known world for The Prime Merlinean and the Protector.

Balthazar would search for centuries.

Balthazar started his quest in Africa. Posing as a wanderer, he met a tribal child whose hands did not cause The Dragon Ring to react. He then continued his search to other parts of the world, including in India. In India he posed as a doctor while having random intriguing children checking on The Dragon Ring.

After some time he moved on to Russia and posed as a teacher, taking on jobs were he could meet as many young children as possible.

And never, it is said, will Balthazar waver from his quest, for mankind will never be safe until Morgana is destroyed by the Prime Merlinean.
