Chapter Fifteen

Maya looked up surprised to see her stepdad standing in the doorway of her classroom as she sat behind her desk grading her students' artwork.

"Shawn, what are you doing here?"

"What I need an excuse to come see my daughter?'

Maya gave him a small smile. Things between the two haven't been the best since Sophie and Hunter made their great debut and when her pregnancy came out. It was no secret to her he was having a hard he was trying to accept it. At her gender reveal she knew he wasn't happy but put his feelings aside to be there. "No, it's just surprising to see you that's all."

Shawn nodded, walking into her classroom and taking a seat at one of the desks he knew he was too big for. "I was just in the neighborhood. Thought I would stop by."

Maya gave him another small smile as she stood up and walked around her desk to lean back against in front of Shawn.

"How have you been? You're really starting to pop."

Maya rolled her eyes with a slight smile, "Is that your nice way of telling me I've gotten fat?"

Shawn chuckled, shaking his head, "No, you're pregnant."

Maya could hear the tone in Shawn's voice at the mention of her being pregnant. He still wasn't over her getting pregnant and Josh possibly being a father to another person's child. "I don't regret my baby."

"I didn't say anything."

"You don't have to," Maya pointed out. "You're still upset that Josh and I got pregnant but I don't regret my baby with my husband no matter what is happening at this second. This was a planned baby," she said, resting her hand on her growing stomach. "Maybe the timing wasn't perfect when we first planned her because I'm still new to my career and Josh is still working on his career and we've only been married for a year but this is mine and Josh's lives. We get to pick what is best for us and our baby is not a mistake no matter what is happening in our lives right at this moment. Sophie didn't even exist in my world when I got pregnant. I knew nothing about her-"

"But she existed in your husband's world and who knows how many Sophies there are."

Maya sighed, "I don't need reminded of my husband's past."

"I think you do because you keep downplaying it, Maya. His past constantly hurts you."

Maya shook her head, "That's not true. We have had our bumps and a couple of them because of you and Josh didn't even know about Hunter."

Shawn shook his own head at Maya pointing out some of her and Josh's bumps were because of him. "Yeah, I know," he nodded. "It's exactly why we don't know how many Sophie and Hunter there are out there and how many are going to come in and turn your life upside down and you continue to stand there and defend him and keep popping out kid after kid by him."

Maya felt like she was hit by a truck at her stepfather's word. She wanted to scream at him but reminded herself where she was. She took in a deep breath and let it out slowly to calm herself down. "I understand you and even mom aren't his biggest fans but I am," she began, strongly. "I'm my husband's biggest fan and I'll never hold his past against him like you two like to constantly bring up."

"Only recently."

Maya shook her head and rolled her eyes, "It doesn't matter. He is my husband. I am standing by his side. He is my unborn daughter's father. Your unborn granddaughter's father. If you can't accept him and just be there for all of us then stay away from us. That's your options. It's all of us or none of us and I'm not going to have you around my daughter if you can't accept her father and you are going to constantly throw his past in our faces. You're not going to downgrade her father in front of her because of his past."

Shawn sighed, standing up.

Maya's eyes followed Shawn's every move as he started to walk out of her classroom but stopped in her doorway and turned back to her.

"Just know I'll always support you. No matter what.

"I can't believe your leaving me again."

Riley smiled listening to her best friend pout.

"And now I have to live all alone with a boy."

Riley scrunched her face suspiciously, "Don't act like you don't like living alone with said boy."

Maya chuckled, shaking her head. "Okay. Just a little."

Josh snorted as he heard the ending of their conversation. "More than just a little."

Riley nodded as Maya smiled blushing.

"I hate both of you."

"Nope you love both of us."

"But me more," Josh said proudly.

"We are not having this argument again," Maya told them, standing up.

Riley narrowed her eyes in on her uncle. "And you don't have to pretend you're happy I'm moving out. I know your sad and going to miss me."

Josh wiped away a fake tear from his eye," Here let me get the last of your stuff so you can go," he told her, causing Riley to roll her eyes and Maya to shake her head at him. He picked up a few other of Riley's items before walking out.

"Before I leave," Riley began quietly and seriously, "You're okay from your Shawn's visit from earlier?" she asked, knowing Maya was upset about it but played it off and didn't want to make a big deal about it especially in front of Josh.

"I'm okay," Maya gave her a reassuring smile. "He knows where I stand. He has his choice. He supports all of us and gets to be in our lives or he doesn't and he is out of our lives."

Maya watched the door close behind Riley as Josh turns to her with a huge smile on his face.

"We finally have our house all back to ourselves," he grinned as he walked towards her. "You know what that means?"

Maya raised an eyebrow.

"We can be as loud as we want."

Maya chuckled, shaking her head as Josh wrapped his arms around her waist and her arms went around his neck. "Don't you dare think about picking me up. I'm getting too heavy."

Josh frowned, pulling back. "What? Because you weigh two feathers now instead of one. I can handle it."

Maya smiled and went to stand on her tippy toes to kiss her husband but stopped at the sound of knocking on the front door.

Josh sighed, resting his head in the crook of Maya's neck. Maya smiled, gently pushing him towards the door.

"Riley whatever you forgot is ours now because you left it," Josh yelled, jogging towards the door. He opened up it surprised. He swallowed before looking back at is wife.

Maya frowned at the look on Josh's face. Her heart dropped when she peeked over to see Sophie standing at their door with a suitcase next to her and Hunter hugging onto her.

"Sorry I didn't know where else to go."

Dun dun dunnnn. What do you think is going to happen now that Sophie showed up...with a suitcase? I know this was a shorter chapter than normal but I hope you enjoyed! Please leave me a review with your thoughts and prediction. I would love to hear from you. Until next timexoxo.
