Chapter 7 Leaf in the Wind
Its been a few days since Sean and Korra arrived in Republic City to finish Korra's Avatar training. (By the way Sora no. Sean is 18 and Korra is 17 right now like every story in season 1. PAY ATTENTION!)
Since then the City has been excited seeing the one who acted as a gateway for the Ancients.
Except for Lin of course for obvious reasons.
Even though Tenzin warned her to drop the subject she went to the council to request Sean be put on the death penalty to get rid of the ancients.
Mana's reply?
Tore down her entire apartment which annoyed her.
Right now Sean and Korra were in the dining hall with Sean drinking some water while she read the paper.
"And in the final, round the Buzzard-Wasps won with a decisive knockout. What do you say we go to the arena tonight, catch a few pro bending matches?" Korra asked making Sean chuckle snatching the paper.
"I knew you were gonna bring that up. You couldn't stop listening to the radio on these matches." Sean said making her smirk before Tenzin walked in.
"That sport is a mockery of the Noble tradition of Bending." Tenzin said.
"Thats not what some of the Ancients like Jinzo and Gilford thought when they watched it." Sean said making him sputter.
"Come on Tenzin the Ancients encourage new things and be inventive. You should know that by now." Korra asked.
"I suppose. Still Your not here to watch that. Your here to finish your training. For the time being I want both of you to remain on the island." Tenzin said.
"Is that why you have Warrior or Beast-Warrior type Ancients here?" Korra asked seeing Axe Raider and Vorse Raider and some others.
"That and to make sure Lin doesn't pull anything. I don't trust her right now because of her views on the Ancients." Tenzin said.
"Hence why everyone hates the so called honorable Chief of police who has a giant metal pole up her ass." Sean said making Korra hold her mouth to contain her laughter while Tenzin's eyes twitched at that.
Soon the three were heading to a training site.
"So my mother informed me you fully passed your airbending training with Mahad." Tenzin said.
"Yeah he makes training look easy. Combining Magic with Bending on the other hand was a lot harder." Korra said.
"For good reason. To Humans Magic is almost second nature. However because we haven't used it in a million years our minds are not as used to it as they once were before Zorc arrived." Tenzin said.
"It's true." Sean said.
"Now before we get into your spiritual training I would like to see how far you've come in your airbending training." Tenzin said.
"Fine with me." Korra said as they arrived at some training site seeing the kids next to some thing.
"What the heck is that?" Sean asked.
"A time-honored tool that teaches the most fundament aspect of airbending. Jinora, would you like to explain this exercise?" Tenzin asked his oldest.
"The goal is to weave your way through the gates and make it to the other side without touching them." Jinora said.
"Seems easy enough." Korra said.
"I doubt that." Sean said.
"Jinora forget to mention you have to make it through while the gates are spinning." Ikki said before Tenzin blew them with Air making them spin before he pulled out a leaf and let it in.
"The key is to be like the Leaf. Flow with movement of the gates." Tenzin said as the leaf made it to the other side. "Jinora will demonstrate." Tenzin said as she went in. "Airbending is all about spiral movements. When you meet resistance, you must be able to switch direction at a moment's notice." Tenzin said as she made it through flawlessly before blowing wind back into it.
"This will be easy." Korra said before she made it in.
To Tenzin's surprise however she did it perfectly flawless before making it on the other side.
"I'm impressed. This is the first time you've done this and yet you didn't get hit like all usually do at first." Tenzin said.
"Mahad is a great teacher. Maybe he'll teach you a thing or two if you ask." Korra said.
Later
Sean and Korra were relaxing as they laid against naga watching the stars.
"I bet Tenzin was completely shocked by how well I did on that exercise." Korra said amused making him chuckle.
"We've both come a long way from the little kids we were when we first met." Sean said making her smile.
"In more ways than one." Korra said kissing him.
Thats when they heard the Radio seeing some of the Ancients listening in.
"Hmm." Sean said before pulling Korra up and walked over to the Radio listening in.
"Amusing." Vorse Raider said.
"Heh. I wonder what it's like in person." Sean said as they listened in.
After about a half hour things were getting intense.
However suddenly the Radio turned off.
"Hey!" Korra yelled hitting it.
"Ahem." Tenzin said making his presence known.
"Hey." Sean said annoyed.
"I thought I made it clear. I don't want you two listening to this distracting nonsense." Tenzin said.
"You said we couldn't watch a match. Never said anything about listening to one. Besides even Mahad and the others let us actually relax when we weren't training. You can't seriously expect us to just train and nothing more. We would drop from exhaustion." Korra said making him sigh.
"I suppose." Tenzin said leaving before plugging it back in.
"Dude needs to lighten up." Sean said.
Next day
Sean and Korra were outside in a mediative stance.
"Even though I'm used to this by now I really hate this no moving thing." Korra said.
"I know. Some things are more difficult than others." Sean said.
"No kidding. Can I ask something?" Korra asked.
"Course." Sean said.
"When you were first brought to the Ancients to see your mother...What exactly happened?" Korra asked.
"My mother unlocked parts of my memories so I would remember her and my father." Sean said.
"Why lock them to begin with?" Korra asked.
"There are some things people are meant to remember right away and others they shouldn't until the time is right." Sean said.
"I guess that makes sense." Korra said.
"Why don't we get off the island tonight?" Sean asked making her grin.
"Oh yeah? And go where?" Korra asked.
"The Pro bending Arena. See whats so special about the game." Sean said making her smile.
Later
Both Sean and Korra were on the back of a Water Ancient heading to the Bending Arena before it brought them up to a window.
"Thank you." Sean said as they looked inside before they found the Gym.
"Wow." Korra said before.
"Hey, what are you doing in my gym?" A man asked.
"Our bad. We were looking for someone and got lost." Sean said before someone passed by.
"Like I'm gonna buy that garbage. You know, I'm sick and tired of you kids sneaking in without paying. I'm taking you to security." The old man said.
"Oh come on is that really necessary?" Korra asked.
"Be quiet you dumb..." He tried to say before a blade was at his neck making him gulp looking back seeing Vorse Raider behind him making him shake.
"Care to continue?" Sean asked.
"There you guys are."
Both turned to see some guy who was a year younger than Korra.
"I've been looking everywhere for you guys. It's all right, Toza. These two are with me."
Toza just scoffed.
"Whatever." Toza said doing his exercises.
"Sorry about him. He's not what you call a people person. Names Bolin by the way." Bolin said.
"Bolin? Wait we heard about you on the Radio last night." Korra said before he lead them away to the arena.
"What do you think? Best seats in the house, Huh?" Bolin asked.
"Oh wow. This ranks up to the training arena back in the Ancients world." Sean said impressed before two others walked in.
"This place is even more amazing than I imagined." Korra said.
"Psst. Bolin."
"Yeah, Mako?" Bolin asked his brother.
"I told you to stop bringing your crazy fans here. Get them out of here." Mako said.
"Oh come on, Mako. Look, I kind promised them they could stay. But I got a good feeling about her. Theres something special about her." Bolin said before rushing to Korra. "Come here, I want you to meet my brother Mako." Bolin said as Mako got geared up.
"Mako? Wow, I heard you play on the Radio last night." Korra said excited.
"Come on, Bolin, We're up." Mako said walking past her.
"Never fucking mind." Korra said with her eyes twitching in annoyance.
"Yeah, Sorry about that. My brother. just gets real focused before a match. Okay, I gotta go." Bolin said getting his gear on. "Wish me luck. Not that I'll need it mind you." Bolin said making her giggle as they entered the arena.
"Good Luck. Knock them out!" Korra said.
"I wonder how this works." Sean said.
And in a short amount of time The Fire Ferrets won with Mako pulling them from certain defeat.
"Oh wow." Korra said amused.
"Nice." Sean said as Bolin came back.
"YES! One more win and we're in the championship. So...What'd you think?" Bolin asked trying to look cool for Korra which Sean saw and snorted in amusement.
"Oh that was amazing." Korra said impressed before seeing their water bending teammate threw his gear.
"Useless." Mako said.
"That was incredible out there mister Hat trick." Korra said.
"Your still here?" Mako asked making her eyes twitch in annoyance.
"Oh, you're still a dick?" Korra asked making Sean chuckle.
"Dude is just asking for it." Sean said.
"Anyway. I've been immersed in bending my entire life, But I have never learned how to move like that. It's like there's a whole new style here." Korra said.
"Not unexpected." Sean said.
"Can you show me a few tricks?" Korra asked.
"Absolutely...But I don't know how my Earth style would work for your water style." Bolin said.
"Not a problem. I'm an Earthbender." Korra said making Sean scoff.
"I'm sorry...I didn't mean to assume I just assumed based on your water tribe getup." Bolin said.
"Oh no. I'm a Water bender and a Fire bender." Korra said while Bolin just looked very confused scratching his head.
"I'm very confused." Bolin said.
"3,2,1." Sean counted.
"Your the Avatar...And I'm an idiot." Mako said.
"No fucking shit." Sean said.
"Both are true." Korra said shocking Bolin.
Later
"So your the famous Avatar...But who's he?" Bolin asked.
As Sean was about to answer.
"Hi boss!"
"Oh no!" Sean yelled looking up as the three Ojama brothers came down on Bolin.
"Hi boss. How ya doing?" Green asked.
"What are they doing here?" Sean asked annoyed.
"You know each other?" Bolin asked.
"Sure...He's Mana's boy." Black said.
"Oh so you're the guy who's half Ancient." Mako said.
"Thats me." Sean said as Kuriboh and Ruby appeared.
"So what exactly do you do?" Mako asked.
"Just like Korra being a bridge between the physical world and the Spirit world I do the same for the Ancients. I'm a living gateway for them to enter this world since they had to destroy the original ones because of Bakura and Zorc." Sean said.
"So why does the Chief of Police hate you so much?" Bolin asked.
"Is someone in need of a lesson?" Green asked.
"I can take her." Black said.
"Bullshit." Sean said. "She hates me because the Ancients get more respect and Admiration which she tried to get from her mother but failed. Not that she should have any in my view. So she wants me dead to get rid of them for her own selfish reasons." Sean said.
"So with you dead the Ancients can't come back." Mako said.
"Yup. Tenzin says she's been given strict warnings about this.
Next day
Korra was once more in the training exercise doing it flawlessly before appearing from the other side.
"Again very well done. Most Avatars have never come so quick as you have in such a short time." Tenzin said.
"I had a lot of good teachers. So when do we get started on the spiritual part since I got this down so good?" Korra asked.
"Soon enough. I have to make some preparations incase Lin tries anything. Even though I've given her strict warnings I can easily tell she's up to something." Tenzin said.
"Why don't you just fire her? Get it over with?" Korra asked.
"I've suggested putting her on leave but the council feels with her success record it would make things difficult. I assure you I will make sure she doesn't try anything as best I can." Tenzin said walking away.
Sean was by the docks on his back whistling as he enjoyed the peace and quiet.
Thats when a Shadow came over him making him look seeing Korra above him.
"Enjoying yourself?" Korra asked before kissing him making him chuckle.
"Yeah. You wanna know something funny? This City is on the remains of my old home a million years ago." Sean said making her blink before looking at the City.
"It is? What was it called?" Korra asked not ever hearing about this till now.
"It was called Paradise City." Sean said before his palm glowed showing the old City seeing the beautiful City it was that outshined Republic City. (Picture it from Gods of Egypt movie)
"Wow. no wonder they called it Paradise City." Korra said laying next to him.
"Yeah. Who knows...Maybe one day they'll rename the City New Paradise City." Sean said.
Later
Korra and Sean arrived at the arena to see Mako and Bolin to support them for the final match to enter the tournament.
Thats when they noticed the disappointed looks on their faces.
"Oh boy this doesn't look good at all." Sean said.
"We didn't miss your match, did we? You guys look like you already lost." Korra said.
"We might as well have." Bolin said.
"That Water Jerk is a good for nothing no show." Black said.
"Oh so thats what the problem is. I guess I should have known since the guy looked pretty pissed off the last time we saw him." Sean said before the Ref walked in.
"You got two minutes to come out ready to play, or you're disqualified." The Ref said before leaving.
"Aw...There goes the championship." Yellow said.
"And the winnings." Mako said.
"Can't you ask one of those guys to fill in?" Korra asked looking at another team.
"I don't think you can do that." Sean said.
"No you can't. You can only play for one team." Bolin said.
"Well, then...How about me?" Korra asked. "I'm a top-Notch water bender, if I do say so myself and trained by the Ancients." Korra said proudly.
"But you're the Avatar. Isn't that cheating?" Bolin asked.
"Not if she only uses Water bending." Sean said.
"No way, I'd rather forfeit than look like a fool out there." Mako said making her eyes twitch.
"Can you seriously like not be an asshole for like five minutes?" Korra asked before the Ref walked in.
"Times up. You in?" The Ref asked.
"We're in." Korra said.
"We are?" Mako asked.
"Yes!" Bolin said.
"All right!" Yellow cheered.
"Hey, I didn't agree to this!" Mako said.
"You can thank me later." Korra said getting geared up.
Meanwhile
Tenzin was looking for Sean and Korra on the island but couldn't find them.
Growing concerned Lin may have pulled something he suddenly heard the Radio.
"Hmm?"
"You gotta be kidding me. She's the Avatar, Folks! Playing in a pro bending match!"
Tenzin widened his eyes before turning red.
"Now don't get all angry." Mana said floating above him.
"Lady Mana." Tenzin said.
"Even they need a life outside their training and more importantly this also could help train Korra in combat abilities against Bakura and Zorc. You'll find that events like these can be more helpful in certain situations." Mana said.
"Hmm. I just find it disgraceful to the noble tradition of bending." Tenzin said.
"And how is it disgraceful? Using your abilities to play a simple game? We had events like these back in the glory days long before Zorc and Bakura. People used magic in games like these for the entertainment of others and to further strengthen their skills. Everything serves a purpose." Mana said making him sigh.
"Yes I suppose." Tenzin said as on the Radio it turned out Korra actually won singlehandedly.
Later
Sean and Korra were back on the island before Tenzin approached them.
"So I assume you two enjoyed the pro bending leagues?" Tenzin asked making them freeze.
"How'd you know?" Korra asked shocked.
"The radio." Tenzin said making them hold their heads down.
"Ok we're busted." Sean said.
"But perhaps the game did serve a purpose. I heard Korra won the game by herself." Tenzin said.
"So...You'll let us off the island?" Korra asked.
"Just so long as you two are together so Lin can't try to pull something then yes." Tenzin said making her smile
"I'll see you tomorrow for spiritual practice. Bright and Early. And, by the way, I kind of permanently joined the fire ferrets, and we're playing in the tournament in a couple of weeks." Korra said as she and Sean ran off making him sigh.
