Chapter 9 Voice in the Night
Its been a few days since Sean and Korra Witnessed Amon's power to take peoples bending away.
Ever since then the bending population was on edge and fearful of the future.
Right now Sean was with Korra asleep.
Thats when her eyes shot open and breathed shakily before seeing she was in her boyfriend's arms making her sigh in relief.
"Nightmare?" Sean asked making her sigh.
"That obvious?" Korra asked.
"Kinda. Let me guess, Amon?" Sean asked making her nod as he held her close. "Thats not gonna happen." Sean said kissing her forehead making her smile.
"I know." Korra said before they fell back asleep.
Next Morning
Tenzin was in a council meeting regarding Amon.
"There is a madman running around our beloved city, threatening to tear it apart. We need to create a task force whose sole mission it find Amon and bring him to justice." Tarrlok said.
"Absolutely not. A move that aggressive would only further divide benders and Non-Benders." Tenzin said.
"Tarrlok, I'm inclined to agree with your proposal. But who would even head up such a task force?" A council woman asked making Tenzin frown at this.
"It would be my honor and privilege to accept such a duty." Tarrlok said.
"This is just another one of your ploys to gain more power isn't it? You've already interfered with several attempts by the Ancients to make life better for Non-Benders at almost every turn." Tenzin accused.
"All I'm trying to do is help. Think back. 42 Years ago, Republic city was threatened by another Dangerous man...Yakone. Your father wasn't afraid to face him head on." Tarrlok said.
"This is a completely different situation. And how dare you compare yourself to Avatar Aang!" Tenzin said angered.
"Amon is not going to stop with the Bending Triads. Eventually he will come for all us benders...Our friends...Our families...Vote for this Task force and I will stop Amon before it's too late. Or there is another option we could use." Tarrlok said.
"What are you talking about?" Tenzin asked.
"The Half Ancient Human." Tarrlok said making him frown. "We know the stories. The man who's half Ancient and Half Human and the son of a former King known as Pharaoh. With all that power he would easily destroy these Insurgents to order." Tarrlok said getting the others to agree.
"Absolutely not. He's not some weapon. And his mother would never allow that." Tenzin said.
"Maybe not. But willingly. All in favor for the Task Force?" Tarrlok asked making all but Tenzin raise their hands before Tarrlok slammed the Gavel with a grin making Tenzin frown.
Later
Sean and Korra were in combat practice against Flame Swordsman and Garoozis with the later trying to slam his axe on him but Sean kept dodging before kicking out his feet.
Korra however readied herself as Flame Swordsman used his sword to make a salamandra attack her but she redirected it back at him forcing him down before Sean knocked his opponent out.
"Whoo-Hoo!" Korra cheered.
However thats when the Radio turned on.
"Good evening my fellow equalists." Amon said surprising them. "This is your leader, Amon. As you have heard, the Republic council has voted to make me public enemy number one, proving once again that the bending oppressors of this city will stop at nothing to quash our revolution. But we cannot be stopped. With the help of the Ancients our revolution will succeed and Benders will never exist to harm innocents again." Amon said before Sean smashed it.
"Oh fucking please." Sean said.
"He's getting bold making statements like that." Korra said.
"Yeah. The ancients won't side with anyone until they know all the facts. So Amon is just using his words to encourage people to join him." Sean said.
Next day
Tenzin and his family were getting ready to eat.
"We are grateful for this delicious food, for happiness, for compassion and..." Tenzin tried to say.
"I'm not interrupting, Am I?" Tarrlok asked walking in making Sean and Korra look at him.
'Hmm.' Sean said.
"This is my home, Tarrlok. We're about to eat dinner." Tenzin said.
"Good, because I am absolutely famished. Airbenders never turn away a hungry Guest, am I right?" Tarrlok asked making him sigh.
"I suppose." Tenzin said sitting down while his wife frowned making him shrug.
"Ah you both Must be the Famous Avatar and Lord Kruger." Tarrlok said.
"It's just Sean or Kruger. I don't do formalities." Sean said.
"I see. The People of Republic City feel far safer now that both of you are here." Tarrlok said making Sean frown on the inside.
"Tarrlok, What do you want?" Tenzin asked having enough of his games.
"Patience, Tenzin. I'm getting to that. As you may have heard, I am assembling a task force. I will strike at the heart of the revolution. And I want both of you to join me." Tarrlok said.
"Really?" Korra asked.
"What?" Tenzin asked annoyed.
"I need someone who will help me attack Amon directly, someone who is fearless in the face of danger, And that someone is both of you. After all..." Tarrlok said.
"Get out." Sean said shocking him.
"I beg your pardon?" Tarrlok asked.
"I said get out." Sean said glaring at him.
"If I have offended you in some way..." Tarrlok said.
"Oh you have. Tenzin told me all about you. How you constantly make life difficult for Non-Benders and make life easier for the other side." Sean said making him look at Tenzin.
"I'm sure he's exaggerating since thats not my intention." Tarrlok said.
"No? Tell me when was the last time you tried to make life easier for Non-Benders? When have you offered jobs to Non-Benders? When have you done anything for them period?" Sean asked making him stutter a little.
"Well I...I assure you I do have their best interests." Tarrlok said while Korra frowned.
"Thats not Tenzin told us. He said you tried to block every attempt the Ancients made to make Life easier for Non-Benders." Korra said.
"Well, I just think they should focus more on the benders since they can do much more." Tarrlok said before Sean slammed his fist down startling him.
"There it is. The favorite playing jackass! You don't give a damn about Non-Benders because they can't do what benders can do. Thats unfair and what gave Amon his rise to power. Your only proving his point." Sean said.
"Amon won't be a problem if you both..." Tarrlok tried to say.
"Get out!" Sean yelled making him cough.
"And what about you Avatar?" Tarrlok asked.
"The answer is no." Korra said.
"I'm not giving up on you two that easily but I will respect your wishes. It has been a pleasure." Tarrlok said leaving.
"Arrogant self-centered son of a bitch." Sean said.
"He's always like that." Tarlok said.
Next day
Sean smiled as Kuriboh jumped up and down in front of him while Korra petted both Naga and Ruby before Bolin and the Ojama brothers showed up.
"Hello, fellow Teammate and good friend!" Bolin yelled making them chuckle.
"Hey Bolin. Staying out of trouble I hope." Sean said.
"Otherwise we may start charging and it won't be cheap." Korra said
"Of course. Missed you guys at practice this week." Bolin said.
"Yeah, you guys haven't stopped by." Yellow said.
"Yeah, sorry about that." Korra said rubbing Naga's belly.
"Aw, it's all right. We're probably out of the tournament anyway. Unless some money miraculously drops out of the sky by tomorrow. Anyway, reason I came by was to give you this." Bolin said handing her a rose and a cupcake making her giggle.
"Wow thanks. Whats this for?" Korra asked.
"Uh...Oh, I can't remember now. Oh, yeah, now I remember. You guys saved me from Amon." Bolin said.
"And what did you think we'd do? Just move on get a new teammate forget you ever existed? Sorry but no." Sean said making Korra giggle.
"It was no big deal. Surprised Amon let you go but guessed he doesn't want to get on the Ancients bad side." Korra said.
"Or worse make Mana real mad by hurting her boy." Green said.
"That too." Sean said before some woman who worked for Tarrlok came with a basket of gifts.
"Compliments of Councilmen Tarrlok and he urges you to reconsider."
Thats when Tiger Axe appeared and snarled at her making her yelp before running off.
"This is one of those benefits of being related to the Ancients by birth." Sean said.
"Who's this Tarrlok guy? Is he bothering you?" Bolin asked.
"Looks like someone is asking for a beating!" Black said.
"Nah. He's just an annoying council member. Don't worry." Sean said.
Later
Sean was coming back to the Island after visiting his mother for a while.
Thats when his eyes twitched seeing the Car left by Tarrlok as a gift.
"We don't even know how to drive." Sean said annoyed. (Kinda pointless if they don't know how to drive)
And in the car was Ikki and Meelo pretending to drive.
"Out of the way! We're driving here!" Ikki said.
"Out." Sean said getting them to do so before he casted a spell reducing it to dust.
"Aw." Meelo said disappointed.
"I ain't risking you two accidentally turning that on and getting into an accident. Now run off." Sean said making them do so.
While this was going on Korra was practicing her Magic before Mana appeared.
"I see Tarrlok's gifts are getting Larger." Mana said.
"Yeah the guy doesn't know how to take no for an Answer." Korra said.
"Korra...Are you doing all right?" Mana asked.
"Course." Korra said before she sat down.
"Why don't you take a seat." Mana said getting her to do so. "I'm glad you both turned down Tarrlok's offer...but for you I want to know if its for the right reasons." Mana said.
"I'm just focused on my training is all." Korra said.
"Or is it because you're afraid of losing your bending?" Mana asked making her look down. "Theres no shame in being afraid you know. I had my own both during and before I became an Ancient." Mana said.
"I know being afraid is human nature. And I know I can't always just say I'm fine when I'm not. But Amon actually scares me worse than Bakura does. Since I don't wanna lose it all after all those years of training to help fight beside him." Korra said.
"I know. The best thing we can do is admit our fears and do our best to face them. It makes it easier face them." Mana said.
Later
Sean held Korra close as they looked at the stars while the girls played.
Thats when the same woman from before approached them.
"Avatar Korra and Lord Kruger. I have something for you."
Sean growled before approaching her.
"Tell Tarrlok to fuck off and stop sending us gifts! We ain't joining!" Sean said turning her around and kicked her back about to rejoin his girlfriend.
"It's not a gift. It's an invitation."
"To what?" Korra asked walking to them.
"Tarrlok is throwing a gala in your honor. All of Republic city's movers and shakers will be there. The councilman humbly requests your attendance."
Sean and Korra looked at each other raising an eyebrow.
Later
Tenzin and his family arrived with Sean and Korra.
Sean was dressed in his regular robes with a frown.
Looking at Korra however she was dressed in more formal clothing which she noticed with a grin.
"And just what are you looking at?" Korra asked.
"I have never seen you look more beautiful." Sean said making her blush.
"Should we leave you two alone?" Senna asked surprising them.
"What the? What are you guys doing here?" Korra asked.
"One of Tarrlok's messengers told us about this and with the stone we came here. Whats this about?" Tonraq asked.
"His dumb attempt to recruit us for some task force." Sean said before he approached them.
"So glad you both could make it. If you'll excuse us, The city awaits its heroes." Tarrlok said leading them away from the parens before Tenzin frowned before he looked around and then had a look of horror on his face.
"Meelo, No! That is not a toilet! Oh, dear." Tenzin said rushing to him, (Oh brother)
"It is my pleasure to introduce Republic city's most famous industrialist, Hiroshi Sato." Tarrlok said introducing them.
"A pleasure." Sean said.
"We're all expecting great things from you." Hiroshi said making Sean frown in his mind at that.
"Hey guys." Mako said approaching them with his brother along with a girl they had never met before till now.
"This is my daughter, Asami." Hiroshi said.
"It's lovely to meet you. Mako told me much about you two." Asami said.
"I don't mean to sound offensive or anything but he hasn't said anything about you." Korra said.
"We just met." Mako said.
"And how did that happen?" Korra asked.
"Asami ran over the guy." Green said.
"Hey it was an accident." Asami said annoyed making them all laugh.
"Anyway I got some good news. Mr. Sato has agreed to sponsor our team." Mako said.
"So we're back in the finals?" Korra asked excited.
"Yup." Mako said making her cheer.
After a while Tarrlok led them down some steps to some reporters.
"If you wouldn't mind answering some questions for them." Tarrlok said.
Sean growled in his head before they walked to them.
"You both witnessed Amon Take away people's bending firsthand. How serious a threat does he pose to the innocent citizens of Republic City?"
"I'd hardly call him a threat when he's only going after gangs and criminals. He's doing everyone a favor right now." Sean said making Korra agree.
"Is that why you both refuse to join Tarrlok's task force? As the avatar and an Ancient, shouldn't you be going after Amon before he targets innocent people?"
"Well..." Korra tried to say.
"Why are you both backing away from this fight?"
"What? No. We're not backing away from anything." Korra said.
"You promised to serve this city. Are both of you backing away from that promise?"
"Do you think Pro-bending is more important than fighting the revolution?"
"How do you think Avatar Aang would have handled this?"
"ENOUGH!" Sean roared making them step back in surprise as Korra was also surprised before he glared at Tarrlok. "Now I know what your doing you fucking asshole." Sean said.
"I'm not doing anything." Tarrlok said before gasping as Sean grabbed him.
"Your trying to guilt trip us into joining your task force. It's not gonna work. Amon is..." Sean tried to say before metal wires wrapped around his hands making him look seeing Lin and her officers before she pulled him to her.
"Thats it. Your under arrest and you are facing the Death Penalty." Lin said.
"Let go." Sean said startling her officers before he freed himself. "You have no justifiable reason to arrest me nor do you have authority to have me killed just because you hate me for being a gateway for the Ancients." Sean said.
"You think I care. These so called honorable Ancients don't belong here. And you don't either." Lin said.
"Cut the fucking garbage. This isn't about the Ancients or me. It's about the fact that they get something you never got. Respect and Admiration. Something you wanted desperately from Toph." Sean said shocking her. "Not that you ever deserved it." Sean said.
"Sean...Enough." Tonraq said.
"No. She needs to fucking hear this. Your selfish attitude is why you have nothing unlike your sister. I actually met her. She was kind, compassionate and caring to everyone she met. She's not selfish like you are. You only care about yourself." Sean said making her glare.
"Thats not true." Lin said.
"No? Name one time you have ever cared about something other than yourself. Name one." Sean said making her open her mouth but nothing came out before she closed it. "Thats what I thought. Your a self centered bitch who has nothing to live nor die for. All you have is yourself. Unlike your sister." Sean said walking past her making her growl before She earthbended a spike into his back making Sean yell in pain shocking everyone before she threw him into a wall as he growled in pain as Korra and her parents rushed to him.
"You ok?" Korra asked worried.
"No...I can't feel my legs." Sean said before Lin earth bended Korra and her parents away from him.
"I'm going to enjoy this." Lin said before a massive Fiend Type Ancient appeared in front of her and roared.
"You really shouldn't have done that."
Lin looked up seeing a man in black robes glaring at her. He had White Skin brown hair and purple eyes.
"Who in the hell are you?" Lin asked.
"The name is Johnathan Reznov. I prefer Reznov or Rez. And I'm a Sentinel. Someone who's charged with protecting the guardians like Kruger. And you just fucking pissed me off." Reznov said.
"Stay out of this. I've had enough with these things in my world." Lin said.
"Too fucking bad. King of Yamimakai! Destroy her!" Reznov ordered as his Ancient roared before smacking her outside.
Lin grunted as she landed on the ground before seeing two more ancients known as Barox and and Dark Chimara growled at her before blasting her making her yell in pain.
Reznov floated out before landing in front of her.
"Little known fact. Sentinels can summon one type of Ancient without the DiaDhank. I can summon Fiend type Ancients. Technically you're a Fiend. You try to murder someone who has done no wrong. Abuse your position to do what you please. You think your mother would praise you for that?" Reznov asked making her growl before trying to Earth bend him but he dodged before punching her down making her groan before Yamimakai stood over her with a ball of lightning before slamming it down on her hard making her scream in agonizing pain.
"Enough." Mahad said stopping him. "We'll deal with her." Mahad said with Mana who glared at Lin.
"Fine." Reznov said rushing inside before the Fiend type Ancients vanished.
Lin growled as she tried to stand up before seeing Mana above her glaring at her.
"Who do you think you are?" Mana asked.
"Get out of my way." Lin said trying to move past her.
"I can see why your mother never praised you." Mana said shocking her. "You only care about yourself." Mana said.
"Thats not true!" Lin yelled.
"What do you call all that? What has my son ever done directly to you to warrant such hatred. What crimes has he committed that you would try to have him killed? Answer that to me right now!" Mana yelled making her look away. "My point made exactly. This is why Tenzin ended things with you. Because you don't care about anyone but yourself. And it's why you're alone. More than ever now." Mana said making her look down.
"I..." Lin tried to say.
"You ever come near my son again...And I will banish you to the Shadow realm...Never to come back." Mana said as she and Mahad left while Lin just stood there.
Later
Korra arrived on Air Temple island after lashing out at Tarrlok for his acts which resulted in this.
"How is..." Korra tried to ask before she heard Sean screaming in pain as Senna let out a shuddering breath holding her mouth while Tonraq held her.
"It's been going on for a while now. Time Wizard is fixing his bones like nothing happened but he's feeling it all." Reznov said.
"I can't believe Lin did this. I know she was difficult but this is way over the line." Pema said holding her kids close.
Thats when Mana and Time Wizard came out.
"The damage has been reversed but he's still gonna need to take it easy for a while." Mana said.
"Can I see him?" Korra asked.
"Course." Mana said as she rushed in.
Sean was on his side groaning as Korra came in.
"Hey." Korra said making him smile lightly.
"Hey. Not how I expected things to go." Sean said making her nod.
"I know. Tenzin says he's gonna make sure Lin is properly punished for this." Korra said.
"Unless Tarrlok gets in the way." Sean said.
Meanwhile
"THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE LIN!" Tenzin roared.
"Tenzin...I..." Lin tried to say.
"Don't make some excuse. You have none. Your Suspended for the next two weeks without pay and when you are back on the force you'll be under close eye by the Ancients. You have any idea how this is gonna make the police look because of this? People might call for it to be disbanded and let the Ancients fully take over causing men and women to lose their jobs...BECAUSE OF YOU!" Tenzin yelled.
"I...Didn't even think..." Lin said.
"Get out." Tenzin said shocking her. "Get whatever belongings you have in your office and clear them out till your suspension is over." Tenzin said making her sigh before leaving.
Authors Note: Wow that was really intense. So Lin is temporarily out of a job because of her actions and will be hated by almost all because of this.
