Chapter 35 Southern Lights

Unalaq was waiting for Sean and Korra when they arrived on Naga making him smile.

"Your both early." Unalaq said pleased.

"Don't act so fucking happy. We're only doing this for the tribe. Not your spiritual nonsense." Sean said.

"So what do we have to do?" Korra asked.

"By neglecting the spirits the Southern water tribe have brought darkness upon themselves, and now it threatens to destroy our tribe. We must set things right." Unalaq said.

"So how do we do that?" Korra asked.

"We'll be making a trip to the South Pole. There we will begin to set things right." Unalaq said.

"Hmph!" Seto said preparing his snowmobile as Sean walked to him.

"You still don't approve of this do ya?" Sean asked.

"Obviously. I understand we need to find out what he's up to but I still hate the fact that we're working with a man no different than my step father." Seto said.

"Oh believe me I know. He's a lot worse than him though a hundred times over." Sean said.

"AHH!" Joey yelled as his camel kicked him back. "HEY! Why are there even Camels in the South Pole anyway?" Joey asked as others laughed at him.

"Welcome to our universe where there are unique animals in every corner of this world." Sean said.

Meanwhile

Tenzin and the others on Oogi arrived at the Southern Air temple.

"There it is, The southern Air temple." Tenzin said.

"Wow it's so beautiful." Serenity said.

"That it is. You should have seen it during the days long before the hundred year war when it was filled with Air benders. It was perfect." Tenzin said as they landed by the Acolytes.

"Why did the Fire Nation attack the Air Nation?" Serenity asked as Turok helped her down making Jinora frown.

"Because he wanted to end the Avatar Cycle by destroying the air nation. Fortunately my father had already left due to...Circumstances." Tenzin said.

"If by Circumstances you mean the fucking elders tried to force him to the be Avatar too soon...Yeah. I would say that." Turok said as they walked off.

Walking into the Past Avatar room they saw all the statues of past Avatars.

"Wow." Serenity said before looking at one Jinora was looking at. "Who's this?" Serenity asked seeing one who was an Airbender.

"My grandfather. Avatar Aang. He was the one who defeated Fire Lord Ozai by taking his bending and made Republic City before New Paradise City took its place. I always wanted to meet him. But he died before I was born and before my parents even met." Jinora said.

"He would be proud of you." Serenity said making her look at her in surprise before smiling. "So which is the very first?" Serenity asked.

"I don't know. There are thousands of Avatars. Some lived for hundreds of years. Others for certain periods of time due to events of their time." Jinora said.

Meanwhile

Everyone was getting the gear ready for the trip to the South.

"Hey. Wheres Mokuba?" Reznov asked.

"I left him with Senna. Not gonna drag him into potential danger that is unknown." Seto said.

"Probably for the best. Besides his skill is based on computers not combat." Sean said.

"True." Seto said.

"Man I hate these things." Joey said looking at his camel before it glared at him before kicking him back. "HEY!" Joey yelled making Tea sigh.

"I need more Female Friends." Tea said.

Thats when Tonraq arrived on a snowmobile.

Unalaq saw this and frowned before approaching his brother.

"Tonraq, What do you want?" Unalaq asked.

"I heard your going to the South Pole. I'm coming with." Tonraq said.

"Absolutely not! Your a distraction to both of them and a hindrance to what needs to be done!" Unalaq said.

"If you think I'm going to let you take them anywhere after the Stunts you pulled your dead wrong!" Tonraq said.

"Relax Dad. Let him try. He'd fail like all the other times." Korra said.

"Even after all these years your still misguided the fact of the matter is its people like your father who have put the spirits out of balance. He's ignored my warnings in the past and hasn't learned since." Unalaq said.

"You know why we trust him over you any day? He's more human than you are. He's not cruel and vile to everyone he thinks is imperfect unlike you do every chance you get." Sean said making him frown.

"Besides whatever happened in the past..." Korra tried to say.

"It doesn't matter. What matters is the Everstorm." Tonraq said.

"And just what is that?" Yami asked.

"A massive blizzard that has battered the south pole for decades. I'm coming, unless you think you can stop me." Tonraq challenged his brother who frowned.

"HEY! GUYS! WAIT FOR ME!" Bolin yelled driving to them on a high tech snowmobile.

"What the hell?" Joey asked amused.

"Check it out. I'm traveling in style." Bolin said before turning the throttle on before stopping. "Sorry, still getting used to that throttle." Bolin said.

"Two questions. Where'd you get that from and why do you even need it for a one day trip?" Tristan asked.

"I got it from Varrick. You know that guy Asami came to visit for business? He also gave me this fancy snowsuit. It's inflatable with an internal heater, emergency beacon, and foot ration pouch. I mean, if I get lost, I can survive in this thing for like a month." Bolin said.

"Why would you need that out in the South Pole? It's beyond pointless." Duke said.

"Hey! It could save his life." Green said.

"Don't act like you know everyone hotshot." Black said making Sean sigh in annoyance.

"Whatever. Lets go." Sean said as they walked off.

Thats when Eska walked to Bolin.

"Does this Sidecar have capacity for two passengers?" Eska asked.

"Sure does." Bolin said placing a hand on the side passenger seat. "But, uh, who's gonna drive?" Bolin asked.

Later

Bolin had an annoyed look on his face as he drove both Desna and Eska. (HAHAHAHA! I feel so bad for him!)

"Well, what do you know? Looks like..." Tristan tried to say.

"Go away Tristan." Bolin said making the others laugh.

Up ahead Sean and Korra were with Unalaq.

"So once we get to the South Pole, then what happens?" Sean asked

"Korra will open an ancient spirit portal." Unalaq said.

"I'm sorry. What now?" Korra asked confused.

"At the South Pole, there is a portal that connects our world to the spirit world. But it has long been closed." Unalaq said.

"And thats why evil spirits are attacking?" Korra asked.

"There are no evil spirits. There is light and dark in all of them. But when they're unbalanced, the darkness takes over. If you can open the portal in time, balance will be restored. Unlike the Ancients they can only be corrupted by Zorc hence why Guardians exist to prevent him from entering their world." Unalaq said.

"What does that mean in time?" Sean asked.

"Theres a reason the glacier spirits festival ends on the winter solstice. Thats when the spirit world and the physical world are close together. Only the Avatar can open the portal." Unalaq said.

"But thats tomorrow." Korra said.

"Exactly. And we can't afford to wait another year." Unalaq said.

"Why didn't you say so sooner? We could have gone yesterday" Sean said.

"We needed to prepare of course." Unalaq said making him sigh in annoyance.

Suddenly however Naga started growling.

"Easy, Naga." Korra said calming her down before Kuriboh appeared on Sean's shoulder and whined making him look seeing shadowed figures.

"The hell are those?" Joey asked.

"Dark spirits." Korra said just as they vanished.

"Lets keep moving. We have to find a safe place to set up camp." Tonraq said.

The group came to a stop and set up camp.

"So why are these Dark spirits appearing anyway. Like Sean said. They are rare." Yami said.

"The Spirits are angry because he's here." Unalaq said pointing at his brother shocking Korra. "Haven't you ever wondered how your father ended up in the South Pole? Why he's never taken you to visit his homeland in the North?" Unalaq questioned.

"Unalaq, this is not the time." Tonraq said.

"You're right. You should have told her a long time ago." Unalaq said.

"Told me what? Dad whats going on?" Korra asked making him sigh.

"I left the North Pole because I was banished." Tonraq said shocking her and the others.

"You were banished from the North? Why?" Korra asked.

"Because I almost destroyed the entire tribe. 20 years ago, I was a general in the northern water tribe, Sworn to protect my people. Then one day a group of barbarians attacked the tribe. We fought back and forced them out. We tracked them down to a sacred forest thinking we would never dare to attack on sacred ground. They thought wrong." Tonraq said.

"So you were just doing your job." Seto said.

"I was. We took them down and captured them but in the process we destroyed the forest. The next night angry spirits came at the tribe. Unalaq was able to stop them and returned them to the forest. But the damage had been done and my father banished me from the Northern water tribe and I made my way here...Where shortly after I met Korra's mother than we had her and later found Sean." Tonraq said making Korra look down.

"Do you now see? It's people like your father who only make things worse." Unalaq said.

"Like your any better." Sean said shocking him. "How many times have you tried to force both of us to be more like you? How many times have you tried to take me away from what I have? How many times have you acted EXACTLY like Bakura. Every fucking time. We'd rather support him than someone like you." Sean said making him frown.

"Clearly you've become so misguided you cannot see people for their faults." Unalaq said standing up.

"I'm not the one misguided. I actually care about the people. Both in this universe and theirs. You only care about what you want. Name one time you haven't." Sean said making him frown.

"He doesn't have to answer to a passant." Desna said making him growl.

"And more proof about inhuman you are. Having children who look down on others because of their status." Sean said.

"We are superior to you. Your nothing but a filthy commoner." Eska said.

"Heh. He's the commoner tell me why he's more respected than you two? Where people respect him...They hate you." Seto said making them frown.

"Thats what I thought. You two are nothing but garbage. Just like your father." Sean said making him glare.

"And another thing where the hell were you when all this happened?" Korra asked making him widen his eyes.

"What are you implying? That I had something to do with what happened 20 years ago?" Unalaq asked.

"She didn't say that but you did." Seto said making him glare.

"I didn't ask for your opinion. You tarnished the name of the Ancients with this pathetic Card Game. Something that never should have been brought here." Unalaq said.

"Everyone else feels differently. See you can't accept change and that no one else is like you. So you try to force what you desire on people. Like me when I was a little Kid shortly after I came out of that cave." Sean said.

"I was trying to make you realize your destiny!" Unalaq said.

"There is no such thing as Destiny. Theres chance and the choices we make that affect our present and future. But you can't accept that because you can't accept something thats not your idea or view." Sean said.

"When this portal is opened up I want you to leave and never come back. All you do is cause problems and I'm done with it." Korra said making Unalaq glare.

"If only the Next Avatar had been someone who could be less pathetic." Unalaq said shocking her before Sean put him in a head lock chocking him as he held him tight.

"You are so gonna regret that." Sean said before Water hit him making him look seeing Desna and Eska.

"Keep your filthy hands off him!" Desna said before two Fiend type Ancients appeared and roared at them.

"Back off!" Reznov yelled.

"ENOUGH!" Sean yelled making everyone stop as he dropped Unalaq who got some air back into his lungs. "When this is over...Never come back." Sean said making him glare.

"I had such high hopes for you." Unalaq said.

"Happy to disappoint ya." Sean said.

Later

Everyone was heading to the southern portal.

"You ok?" Sean asked holding Korra from behind making her sigh.

"Yeah I'm fine. Just...I wish I wasn't related to him." Korra said.

"I know the feeling. But he choose his path just as you choose yours. It's the choices we make that make us who we are today." Sean said making her nod as he kissed her.

"Here we are." Unalaq said as they arrived at the Southern portal seeing trees frozen in ice.

"Frozen trees?" Tea asked.

"This is the effect of the South being out of balance." Unalaq said.

"Why is it I don't believe that?" Sean asked Korra who nods. "Ok so what do we do?" Sean asked.

"Korra must reopen the southern portal in order to set things right." Unalaq said.

"When this is over we never want to see you again." Korra said as they made it inside.

"This place gives me the creeps." Sean said as they made it to the portal.

"Why do you think this portal was closed anyway?" Korra asked as they made it to the middle of the frozen forest.

"I wish I knew." Sean said before Dark Spirits appeared making him growl before Korra went into the Avatar State and slammed her palm on the portal before it opened up making the dark spirits scatter.

Thats when a bright light shot out at the sky engulfing it in bright colors.

"Spirits dancing in the skies." Korra said smiling.

Everyone outside saw this.

"Wow." Tea said in awe.

Unalaq grinned at this.

Later

Everyone soon arrived at the Tribe but saw something that made them frown.

Arriving at the Tribe was Unalaq's forces.

"The hell is going on now? I told you when this was over we wanted you to leave." Korra said.

"Opening the Spirit portal was only the first step in getting the southern water tribe back on its righteous path. Theres just a few more things left to do." Unalaq said making them frown.
