Prompt: Discord Drabble Nights September 2021
Inspiration: "Boom Clap" by Charli XCX
Start
Kagome ran her fingers through her hair, combing out the last of the tangles. They'd been fortunate to come across a hot spring—the first one in weeks—and she'd indulged longer than normal.
"Sorry for the wait, everyone, we can get started now—" She frowned as she looked around, flames from their fire causing shadows to dance around empty spaces.
She stiffened as she reached out with her reiki, worried she'd missed an impending threat. Strong youki responded, caressing her aura as Sesshoumaru stepped out of the trees.
"They have moved on, miko."
"What? Why?!"
Drawn
As if to answer her, lightning crackled across the sky, darkness turning to daylight before thunder echoed in the distance.
"They have sought shelter."
Kagome cursed under her breath. "They could've let me know!"
"You seemed to require extra time in the spring, we have been on the move for some time."
Blue eyes widened, realization dawning on her. "You waited until I was done?" A single nod of his head had her lips curling up into a soft smile. "Thank you."
He shrugged a shoulder. "Consider it payment for protecting Rin during our last encounter with Naraku."
Root
She shook her hands in front of her, about to deny his claim, but her words were cut off as rain began to pelt them from above.
"So much for the hot spring," Kagome groaned, the icy water quickly soaking through her clean clothing. Looking around, she tried to figure out which way her friends had gone but the electricity in the air was dulling her senses.
A tug at her wrist had her stumbling over tree roots, Sesshoumaru almost dragging her through the forest.
"Hey, w-wait!"
"There is no time, the storm draws nearer, and you are vulnerable."
Influence
"It's not like you're immune to lightning."
He gave her a backwards glance, his gold eyes gleaming in the encroaching darkness.
"Are you certain?"
Kagome didn't answer, instantly intrigued. "Are you?" Another flash of lightning streaked across the sky above them and she heard him hiss through his teeth before wrapping an arm around her waist.
And then they were darting through the trees.
She yelped and grabbed hold of his haori, her protest muffled against his breastplate.
"I can still walk!"
"We do not have time for you to stumble around like the monk when he is under the influence."
Centre
They made it to the entrance of a cave in record time. Kagome started to step away from him but was quickly thrown to the ground, Sesshoumaru's body covering hers before the hair on the back of her neck stood on end.
His youki engulfed her a moment before the grass around them went up in flames, white-hot electricity sizzling around them as it tried to find a conduit.
Kagome huddled underneath him, safe in the centre of the dome of his power. It seemed to swell before he grabbed the back of her shirt and threw her into the mouth of the cave.
Content
"Was that necessary?" she groused, gingerly getting to her feet.
"You would be content with the possibility of electrocution?"
Blue eyes glared at him. "Possibility my ass. Guess I can add 'lightning-proof' to your list of superpowers." She looked around the cave, suddenly realizing they were alone.
"Where's everyone else?"
"It is not safe to travel, we will wait for the storm to pass."
Blood drained from her face. "B-But… What about Rin?"
"The slayer is more than capable of caring for Rin until we return." He brushed sodden locks out of his face, then settled against the cave wall.
Origin
Kagome bit her lip as her heart thudded against her chest, the sound seeming to grow in volume with each passing moment.
She'd never been along with him before, never let herself be alone with him before. It was bad enough that he'd been travelling with them for the past few months.
Secretly seducing with every glance and kind word.
She sighed, unable to pinpoint the origin of her infatuation but already having resigned herself to another broken heart.
"You can relax, miko, you have nothing to fear from me."
Bristling, Kagome crossed her arms. "I am not afraid of you."
"Then why does your heartbeat echo off the walls?"
Essence
She avoided his question, looking out of their sanctuary and into the essence of the storm. Winds raged, the grounded vibrating with each roll of thunder.
Rubbing her arms, she tried to bring warmth back into her limbs, all while ignoring how his gaze bore into her back.
She could feel his curiosity, his aura curling around her feet. Goosebumps broke out on her skin, and she turned to sit against the opposite wall, but was stopped by claws wrapping around her wrist.
Sapphire met gold before she was pulled down beside him, close enough to feel the heat from his body through pale silks.
Heart
"Rin requires warmth during storms, I assume you are the same."
She nodded, keeping her eyes on the other side of the cave, her body stiff as her arm brushed against his side.
A soft sigh escaped his lips, and he rested his arm atop a bent knee. "We will return to the others soon; your disquiet is unfounded."
"I told you, I'm not afraid of you."
"Then why does the beat of your heart increase every time I am near?"
A dark blush stained her cheeks and she forced herself to look up at him, unable to lie to him.
"Because I'm not afraid of you."
Cause
A pale eyebrow rose, the only acknowledgement of her confession. Kagome struggled to breathe; the sound of the storm muted in her ears.
"I do not want to be the cause of any distress." His claws brushed her cheek, pushing her damp hair over her shoulder before tilting her chin up. Soft lips dragged across hers and a harsh shudder wracked her body.
He smelled like mint and the first snow in winter.
Confusion mingled with hope, her hand moving on its own to trace the stripes on his face. Gold turned to burnt amber as they hypnotized her.
Enticed her.
Effect
"Sesshou—" He didn't let her finish, effectively silencing her as he pulled her into his lap. Smooth palms slid up her thighs as he claimed her lips. The kiss was as demanding as the storm outside, and Kagome wasn't sure she'd evaded the lightning strike, his hands causing electricity to scorch her skin through her clothes.
His tongue slipped into her mouth, and she moaned, burying her fingers into his hair. A low growl vibrated through his chest, and she smiled against his mouth, then dug her nails into scalp. Fangs scraped against her bottom lip before he pulled away, crimson bleeding into his eyes.
"Keep that up and we will be delayed in reuniting with your pack."
Cerulean darkened to indigo, the scent of the rain being drowned by her arousal.
"We don't know how long the storm is going to last, we should stay here just in case."
His lips curled up into a smirk, revealing pale fangs. "Do as you please."
