Chapter 2 Saphira
Saphira let out a sigh as her sister left her dressing room, and got up and went into the bathroom, and started a shower; she got it to the temperature she wanted, then undressed and got in. Saphira just stood there for a moment letting the warm water hit her as thoughts of the first time she met Loki went through her head.
They had been small children, her father was good friends with Odin and was head of his royal guard, her mother was friends with the Queen and had been called to the palace to help her with something, even though Enid had been there many times by then, accompanying her father and had already befriended Thor and his friends, Saphira had yet to see it because she had not been allowed to go, her father believing her to be too restless, so either her mother or Enid always stayed home to watch her, but that day she had been excited to go and see the prince her sister was always fawning over.
Saphira had been stunned by the beauty of the palace and not being able to sit still, Frigga said it was okay if Saphira explored the library just down the corridor, find a book to read, and hang out there until her mother came for her. Saphira read sometimes, but Enid was a much bigger reader than her, but hanging out in the library sounded less boring than sitting in the Queen's chambers with nothing to do for the next couple of hours.
Saphira was happy to obey the rules her mother gave her before letting her leave, but as she walked down the corridor, she wasn't paying attention to where she was going, too busy looking at the paintings on the walls, and ran right into a boy around her age, that turned out to be Loki. They both fell, and Loki dropped his books, when Saphira said, sorry, he looked up at her with a scowl on his face and was about to say something when his green eyes locked on hers, whatever he was about to say died in his throat. The scowl fell from his face as Loki just stared at her, then when he realized he was staring, he quickly looked away and went to gather his books.
Saphira was never shy, so she helped him pick up his books with a smile, apologized again, and said. "My name's Saphira." Loki's face had turned red, and he quickly mumbled Loki. Saphira knew who he was right away and explained who her parents were and why she had been roaming the palace; Thor, Enid, and their friends came along at that time, Thor had reached down and pulled Loki to his feet, after a few interactions, Loki seemed to get over his shyness and offered to show her to the library as he was already on his way; she accepted his offer. And that's where the Queen and her mother found them a few hours later, with Loki explaining one of his favorite stories to her. Her mother thankful that Saphira had not gotten into trouble, and Frigga was happy that Loki found a friend.
After that day, Saphira had been allowed to go to the palace to play every day. Loki still acted shy around her just a little unless he talked about a book he had just read. She hadn't understood why or why she would often catch Loki looking at her; he seemed mesmerized by her, always trying to look at her eyes without being noticed and staring at her ears, But mostly her hair, Loki was amazed by Saphira's copper color curls. Saphira was confused and sometimes a little annoyed by it because she was the only one that hadn't realized Loki fancied her.
After washing herself off, Saphira got out of the shower and dried herself, and dressed, putting on skinny jeans and a t-shirt, then stood there towel drying her hair. She smiled as more memories flooded her mind. Like the time Loki had done some spell and gave Thor long fluffy rabbit ears, they all had been friends a couple of years by then. Loki was no longer shy around her, but Saphira still caught him looking at her sometimes only for him to look away quickly when she looked at him. After he gave Thor rabbit ears, she and Loki had a good laugh about it, then the rest of their friends and Enid and Thor had chased them around the palace, which started all the pranks and tricks she and Loki played on the others.
Thor's other four friends were more friends of his and Enid's than Saphira and Loki's who preferred to stick to themselves, only joining the others when Enid or Thor dragged them into playing a game or company them to a different realm or somewhere where they would end up in a fight and Heimdall had to open the Bifrost and bring them back to Asgard to escape being cornered or something like that. They did that for a few years, then Odin declared it was time for Thor to become a real warrior, Sif became Lady Sif, Fandral, Volstagg, and Hogun became the Warriors Three. Enid joined right in, she and Thor a couple by then, soon after she started learning about business, trading, and stuff like that, she even went to University along with Thor.
Loki and Saphira were left out, but it didn't bother them too much. Even made a couple of friends of their own. After Saphira had complained to Loki one day that she couldn't get the hang of the elven magic her mother was teaching her and Enid, he tried to teach her some of the things his mother taught him. She couldn't do most of those either, so he helped her discover what she could do, which is how Saphira learned her connection to nature and how she can control the elements. Loki helped her manage it. He even taught her a new fighting style. By then, Saphira had started falling for him hard.
By the time Thor and Enid announced their engagement, Loki and Saphira had become a couple themselves. Unlike Thor and Enid, they didn't go around kissing each other all over the place, mostly cause their relationship mainly was kept a secret; her father didn't like Loki and disapproved of her friendship with him, he indeed would have hated them being a couple, (they learned just how much later on)so they had to be careful together.
During the times they spent alone together, Saphira would sit next to Loki with her head on his shoulder as he read to her, or Loki would lay with his head in Saphira's lap while she read to him, they held hands, snuggled, kiss on the cheek here or there, a couple of quick kisses. Then Enid moved out, first it was to go to school, then moved into the palace. Her up-and-coming wedding and Thor became all she and their parents cared about, and Loki became the only one she could turn to when she needed someone.
Saphira hated having to leave her home; her whole life changed that day. It felt like it was yesterday, her and Enid on the Bifrost fleeing Asgard. Loki was there helping them escape. They kissed told each other they loved each other, then just held on to one another until Saphira had to go; Loki had then promised her leaving wouldn't be forever that he and Thor would come to get her and Enid and bring them home, Saphira still believes that will happen. Her life would go back to the olden days, and she and Loki wouldn't have to hide from anyone. Before Saphira left, Loki asked her to wait for him, and Saphira promised she would. That was the last she saw Loki and missed him more each passing minute.
Saphira walked out of the bathroom, and sat at her vanity, and begun to brush her hair. She didn't consider herself coincided, but she was happy with her looks, her height, and figure, though sometimes her long curls got on her nerves. They were hard to handle and untangle. She had tried short hair back in the day and hated it, so she grew her hair out long. When it bugged her too much, she just tied it back in a ponytail or braid.
Saphira set her brush down and ran her hand through her wet curls; she loved fashion and went through many different styles throughout the years, sometimes she did wear jeans and shirts, but she had other clothes that made her stand out. Saphira loved makeup, especially eye makeup. She loved bringing out the shape of her eyes. She usually dressed better than she was now, but she was planning on just going up to their apartment and going to bed,
Saphira pulled her hair back in a ponytail. Then glanced down at the picture she kept sitting on her vanity, it was her, taken in nineteen forty-nine when she was working as a movie star; Saphira had thought the earth would grow on her if the people here liked her, one of the reasons Saphira stuck to those kind of jobs, but she got addicted to the attention and praise, on Asgard Enid had been the one people fond over, thought was the prettiest, Saphira knew it was because her sister looked more like the other Asgardians. Saphira looked more like a Ljosalfar, but the main reason she wanted to be famous on Midgard, she had hoped it would make it easier for Loki to find them if her face was all over the place.
She reached out and opened the drewer on her vanity and pulled out a metal locked box and held her hand out, and made a key appear; one thing Saphira had been able to learn from Loki was how to hide things in a pocket dimension, he even made it where she had access to his hidden things or could put something in his. Like he hers. Saphira unlocked the box and opened the lid; inside were numerous love letters from Loki, written after she fleed to Midgard, unknown to Enid, the biggest reason Saphira still believed in Loki's promise was that they were still in contact with each other, passing notes, and letters, by putting them in these dimensions. Saphira even sent him pictures and postcards and different things from places they've been, and this is how she knew Odin was behind Loki not showing up yet. She loves getting the letters, but in a way, they made her miss him that much more.
After they had been on earth a while, they realized when Enid had started studying different Mythologies, that at some point after leaving for Midgard, Odin had done something, most likely with magic, and ripped her whole family from Norse Mythology, no one in recent years knew of them and being near worshiped by fans almost felt like it did back then. But Saphira would have and still would give it all up to be able to go back to Asgard, back to Loki.
Saphira sat there a moment a little longer, just looking at her reflection, thinking about everything, the weekend at Saphira's house than the road trip sounded like fun, Saphira was looking forward to it and decided for once not to think of the past, but to have fun and spend time with her sister. She locked her box back up and put it back in the drawer. She kept it here instead of in her room so that Enid wouldn't find it; Saphira wasn't sure why she felt it had to be kept a secret from her sister but was scared of how she would react after what happened with her father and how Enid went on and on about forgetting about Asgard and enjoy life on Midgard.
After a moment, she decided to go up to her and Enid's apartment, maybe eat something, then curl up in bed, maybe play a game before going to sleep. Saphira got up and left her dressing room, and she walked down the hall and toward the elevators, when three guys and women, on either side, surrounded her. Saphira just rolled her eyes. She had noticed them at the other casino, had been keeping an eye on them because they had been closely watching her and what she won.
"Hand over all that money you had; you won't get hurt." One guy said.
"I don't have it." Saphira shrugged. "Gave it away."
"You expect us to believe you just gave that much cash away." A different guy demanded.
"I don't care about money." Saphira said. "I just like winning."
"Bullshit." the women cried, then swung to punch her; Saphira ducked the blow, then pulled the girl's leg out from under her, causing her to fall hard on the black marble floor. One guy came after her. Saphira just tossed him over her shoulder, then ducked another hit, before punching that guy in the stomach, then knocked his legs out from under him, the last guy came at her, Saphira stopped his punch, then grabbed his arm and sent him over her shoulder, where he hit an expensive painting hanging on the wall, then crashed through a glass table that sat under the painting. Saphira was the only one left standing as the others laid around her on the floor. She heard footsteps running towards her and looked up to see Jim, the head security, and three security guards. They all stopped and looked around.
"I thought you were head of security?" Saphira demanded, putting her hands on her hips. "Why were you not here to stop them trying to attack me?"
"I went for a smoke break," Jim said. Saphira rolled her eyes.
"Well, while you were on your break, I did your job for you," Saphira said.
"I see that?" Jim answered. Looking at the people on the floor, with a bit of surprise look on his face.
Saphira patted his shoulder as she walked, passed him, and Jim raised his walkie-talkie to say something into it. Saphira stopped and turned around.
"While you're at it, tell my sister I am sorry about the painting." Saphira then turned and walked off, leaving Jim shaking his head with a slight smile.
Saphira walked straight to the elevators and straight up to their floor and apartment; Enid was still working, so Saphira grabbed a can of pringles and a Pepsi, then went to her room; lying on her bed was Mischief. Which was something he never actually got into, being too lazy to do anything other than eat and sleep. But she had not been able to resist naming him that.
"Hey, Mischief, have you been good today?" Saphira smiled at her cat as she slipped off her jeans then climbed into her bed. "Meow," was his answer. Saphira got under her covers as Mischief sat next to her and batted at her Pringle's can, smiling. Saphira knew what Mischief wanted, and she popped the Pringles open and held one out to him; he ate it out of her hand.
Together Mischief and Saphira ate the Pringles, then Saphira drunk her pop, turned the tv on a random channel because she couldn't stand silence, got comfortable under her covers with her smartphone to play a game on it, Mischief curled up next to her legs, and went to sleep, he wasn't the only animal at the hotel, some rooms had different themes to them, the back of the hotel had an aquarium room, where the walls were fish tanks with all kinds of fish. There was the nature room, with trees and plants, that also had birds, even a couple of peacocks. There was also a room, where the walls and floors were black, with stars and planets that glowed when the lights were off at night.
Saphira was in a good mood the morning their vacation started; she had been looking forward to it and planning it for two weeks now; she and Enid were going to stop at the grocery store, then head to her house, make homemade pizza, eat junk food and watch movies all weekend long. Then get up at some point Monday and head out, driving anywhere. They choose to go toward Arizona, and that way, see what they find or keep going until they decided to stop.
Saphira got out of bed early to find a note left by Enid saying she was finishing up a few things, leaving instructions for the staff, then they would head out. Saphira was a little disappointed they weren't leaving right away but figured it gave her time to pack, shower, and grab something to eat. Saphira went into the kitchen, made some toast, and boiled water for a cup of tea before sitting at the kitchen table and ate her toast and drunk her tea while reading the newspaper that was sitting there.
After Saphira ate, she took a shower, brushed her teeth, then wrapped a towel around herself and headed back into her bedroom, it was a pretty good size, with a large bed and dresser, vanity, and shelves with different things on them, and a walk-in closet, which is where Saphira headed to find something to wear, she chose skinny black jeans and a green crop top. She got dressed, slipped on a pair of black shoes, then sat down at her vanity and did her makeup and hair. She left her hair down and pushed it back with a hairband.
Saphira decided to pack her suitcase with some of her favorite clothes, then a bag with some jewelry, and makeup, and few other things, and carried them into the living room and sat it next to the bag Enid had packed last night. At that moment, the door open and Enid walked in. She was wearing jeans and a light blue blouse.
"Oh, good, you're ready." Enid said. "Give me a minute; then we'll go." She headed down the hall, was gone for about three minutes, then came back down the hallway, pulling her hair back in a ponytail. "Ready?" She grabbed her keys and purse from the counter, picked up her bag and suitcase. Saphira did the same, and they headed out the door and down to the garage where the cars were.
"We'll take my car; it goes faster." Saphira said, unlocking the trunk and opened it.
"Sister, we are not going to spend our road trip just speeding through towns." Enid said, tossing her bag in the trunk.
"Of course not." Saphira grinned, taking the key out of the lock, then walked to the driver's side door and unlocked it.
Saphira got in, then shut the door, and put on her seatbelt as Enid got in next to her. Saphira then started the car and drove off; she squealed the tires as she speeds down the road.
"I thought you said you weren't going to speed through town." Enid asked.
"When we are on our road trip, I won't." Saphira said. "Unless we are driving down country roads."
"Saphira." Enid said; Saphira just grinned, which made Enid smile, happy that her little sister was in a cheerful mood.
It didn't take long for Saphira and Enid to get out of the city. Not having to make any stops, Saphira keeps her car full of fuel, plus she hardly used it, preferring to walk around the Vegas strip instead of driving.
"We should stop at a store and pick up a few things before going to the house." Enid said.
"I'll find a store next town we get to." Saphira answered, slowing down to make a turn.
"So, what movie are we going to watch first?" Enid asked.
"I'm not sure, possibly Night of the Living dead." Saphira answered.
"Rember the first time we went to a movie?" Enid asked.
"It was Wizard of Oz if I remember correctly." Saphira answered. "Remember we got kicked out of the premiere of my first movie?"
"If I remember right, you were the one that got us kicked out." Enid laughed, "You were the one that started people throwing popcorn."
"Hey, that one guy ask for it; he said my movie was stupid." Saphira said. "I lost my temper and threw my popcorn at him; how was I suppose to know it would start a popcorn fight?"
"Sister, " Enid said," that movie was stupid."
"Keep it up, sister, and I will pull over and let you out." Saphira threatened.
Enid only laughed, then for a split second thought Saphira had meant it, as the car slowed to a stop, but it was because she was turning into a store parking lot. They were still smiling a bit as they got out of the car and headed toward the store. They quickly found what they needed and paid for their things; while inline, Saphira grabbed a few magazines and tossed them on the counter with the other stuff. They put it all in the backseat, then pulled out, and Saphira sped away.
By the time they made it to Saphira's house, it was late in the evening; since it was out in the middle of nowhere, and no one was around to see them, Enid used her telekinesis abilities to help carry the bags in.
"We'll make our food then watch a movie after we eat, " Enid said. Enid put the groceries away; Saphira went over and pulled open the curtain covering the kitchen's sliding door; she grinned when she saw standing on the other side a mountain lioness along with her three cubs. She unlocked the door and slid it open.
"Aww, Lucy, you had your babies," Saphira said, as the lion came in, followed by her tiny cubs, Saphira got down on the floor to pet the mama lion then picked up one of the babies. Enid stopped what she was doing and watched.
"Are you calling that lion Lucy?" Enid demanded.
"She's my friend," Saphira said, "I thought it was cute."
Enid watched as Lucy laid down on the kitchen floor as if she lived there, and her cubs ran in and out of the sliding door running around playing. Enid turned from the giant cat and looked at her phone lying on the table.
"Oh no, you don't." Saphira said. Enid looked at her unquestioningly. "Don't look at me like that, Sister; I know why you were staring at your phone, no work stuff; this is our vacation."
"I was only thinking about checking in." Enid replied.
"If you're needed, or there is an emergency, they will call you; they have both our cell numbers." Saphira said. "You even think of picking up that phone, and I will feed it to Lucy."
"Fine, " Enid sighed and walked over and started getting out the things they'll need to make the pizza. She glanced back at her phone. "Though I do hope everything is going fine."
"You worry too much, like an old grandmother." Saphira laughed as she stood over by the sink pulling back her hair, then washed her hands before going over to where Enid was making the pizza bread. Enid paid her back for her remark by tossing flour on her.
"Hey, " Saphira cried, then grabbed her hand full and threw it on Enid, which caused them to throw flour at one another while laughing. It took them a while to get to making the pizza and watching scary movies, but after eating it, they popped popcorn, then went and sat down on the couch and put on a movie and chat.
"I never understood why father disliked Loki so much," Enid said, as their conversation went to the olden days.
"Father was an asshole," Saphira replied, her look darkening a moment. "Before his rebellion ruined our plans, Loki and I had been planning to run away together." Enid looked at her with a frown. "You know how father was, Loki, and I would have never been allowed to be together."
"When were you planning to go?" Enid asked.
"Right after your and Thor's wedding ceremony." Saphira said. "Both Loki and I wanted to be there for it, plus afterward everyone would be at the celebration that would follow, no one would notice Loki and me missing until it was too late."
"Are you are serious?" Enid demanded.
"Of course I am; my trunk was packed, and everything." Saphira said. "But as you know, we never got the chance; he wanted to when we were fleeing Asgard, though."
"Why didn't you go with him?" Enid asked.
"I knew Mother would abandon us. I wasn't going to do that to you too; Loki understood, he would have been willing to come with us, but Frigga wouldn't have let him." Saphira answered. Enid looked at her in surprise. "Don't look at me like that; you're my sister; I couldn't let you go off to another realm alone if Thor or Mother was with you; that would have been different."
Enid didn't say anything. She just smiled and turned back to the movie. Guess she didn't know Saphira as much as she thought, and that wasn't so bad; at least this part of her wasn't.
AN It's a bit slow and possibly borning right now, but it'll pick up a little once Thor shows up, I am not sure if this is an M rated store; it will have some violence and foul language, and hints at specific stuff, but not detailed, but made it M to be on the safe side. Summary and tilted of the story kind of suck, but if I can think of something better later it'll be changed.
