A/N: look so... Undertale is a thing on this world. Sue me. (But if anyone were going to know about a centuries old videogame it would a nerdy historian such as Ms. Mavis here.

Mavis pushed up her glasses with the edge of the box in her arms as she trotted down the hallway towards her office. She had a meeting that had started five minutes ago, so it was a good thing she knew the people she was meeting with. She also knew that at least one of the people would notice her Undertale sweater. So... Extra glad she knew the people. Before opening the door, she pushed her curly hair out of her face, brushing it behind her horns (ever convenient to have horns that functioned as a headband in a pinch.)

She pushed her office door open with her back, the pleasant chatter within quieting.

Within sat her friend and colleague, Freyah, with four other Auferas. Medusa, in her big blue coat, with the grub on her lap, her matesprit who's name Mavis couldn't remember off the top of her head, and Nairuu. Matesprit guy had a pencil balanced on his nose, and he gave her thumbs up. Meioxi! His name was Meioxi.

"Mavis, dear! Good to see you." Freyah said, jumping up and hugging her.

Mavis giggled, setting her box down on the end table. She sat down behind her desk, still smiling.

"So you've come by today to talk about... Some sort of paradox?"

"I don't think paradox would be quite the right word, dear, more like an anomaly." Freyah said.

"And a big one, too." Medusa put in.

"Hmm. What's the nature of it?"

"A troll. He, apparently, has been stuck in a tomb for a very, very long time. Any normal person would have lasted a week in a tomb like that if they were hyper hydrated, and yet he has claimed to have been trapped for eons. His physical state, or, part of it, indicate that he's been in there for, at the very least, a long time. Longer than anyone could survive in an underground tomb."

Mavis's eyes were wide.

"Oh. Oh my. Well, that's sure an anomaly. Uhh, is there anything else about him you've noticed?"

"Only a few things. First, he's freakishly strong. I mean, obviously in a severely weakened state like his he's not out of the ordinary, but..."

She could see Mavis wasn't following. Turning to Meioxi, she said,

"Hon could you try and explain it? I'm not adept in explanations."

Meioxi smiled, startled, and began, "o-oh, well, you see, his weakened state is as strong as a typical #FF470D88 is in a healthy state. Implying that in a healthy state, he would be doubly or more as strong as a typical troll of his hemotype would be."

Mavis interlaced her fingers, holding the pointers to the bridge of her nose.

She hmmmed once or twice.

"Oh, also!" Neiruu said, "he didn't have a name when I found him. He latched onto the name Lightning Bug. He's got no memory other than the word juggalo."

"Ooh. Hmm. Okie dokie. Well. H-have you told Faygoe about him yet?"

"Not yet. We wanted a professional opinion before trying to register him and get paperwork and all that jazz." Medusa said.

"Hmm. Well, for a professional opinion, I'd like to talk to him personally. But from the information you've given me, I can at least get you started. This isn't an isolated event. There have been other cases of something like this happening. Do you know about the appearances?

They shook their heads.

"Well, the first one was a complete of human children, discovered on an isolated island about a year ago. The island didn't have any plant life on it, and the kids couldn't've been there too long, but there was no way they could've gotten there. Then there's Ms. Radhia's husband and... Oh I guess that one actually would be the first one... Anyway he had no records before Radhia introduced him to the world. There are a couple others, and all but one happened in the last 30 or so years. There's something funny going on, I'd say, and it seems to be coming to a head."

The room was silent for a second. Radhia, one of the four leaders of the trolls, (along with Faygoe, Tekii, and Lanshe) had seemingly found the goldblood out of thin air. They hadn't thought anything of it until Mavis tied it together.

Medusa shifted Ramses to the other knee, tapping her knuckle to her face contemplatively.

"And you know these things are all correlated?"

Mavis drooped a little.

"Well, to be perfectly technical, no. These are *possibly* totally unrelated incidents, but? People showing up randomly like they were just... Released from a pokespawn ball? It all seems very correlated."

"Hmm. That's fair. But that does leave three dozen or so questions unanswered, true?"

"Very true."

Medusa fished a folded sheet of paper from her pocket.

"Would you like me copy you a list of info and questions?"

"Oh, uh, you could just send me a picture of that list if you'd rather and I can extract text from it and copy it into a database. It'd save you a little writi..." Mavis saw Medusa's eyes glaze over trying to look interested and invested in technology, "nevermind lol. Absolutely."

"Sweet."

Medusa passed Ramses to Meioxi behind her, and started copying down the note.

They met a couple more times, and Mavis even came to the farm once to meet Bug personally.

After piecing together everything they had, they met once again, a few weeks later, in the cluttery office again.

Mavis, today wearing an Avatar, the final Windtwister shirt and black slacks, began,

"Well for a professional and 'scientific' opinion, I have to say he's just naturally gifted when it comes to physical strength, and suffering from amnesia, potentially from a traumatic event. And again, if we're going by the current 'scientific law' I have to say that he couldn't have been in the fridge for more than a couple of weeks. But. I mean, that's pretty clearly not true,"

She said, now looking at Nairuu,

"You know those woods like the back of your hand, and you would have known if someone had entered them, right?"

Nairuu nodded, "yeah, the border walls would have been breeched, and a few of them have security cameras. Not to mention three or four dangerous lusii."

"So you see, there's not much we can do besides believe him, at least, not at present. I do have one other theory I'd like to put on the table, though."

Medusa sat up slowly, leaning forward.

"Mhmm?"

"Plot convenience."

The room went dead silent.

"... Plot... Convenience."

"Yes. N-named after the writing cliche of something turning up exactly where it needs to be at exactly the right time. According to the ancient Rose Tomes, it happened frequently in the years leading up to our world's appearance. I... There's no evidence for it, but it offers an explanation besides 'well see he must've only been stuck for a week!'..."

Freyah nodded.

"That would make sense. That's the principle behind a lot of how our world works. It's not unreasonable that he's just... Cosmically important somehow."

Medusa smiled at the thought.

"I don't pretend to know all that much about semi speculatory sciences, but I'd say yes, that seems the answer. Or at least in the same orb park."

The room was quiet for a second, before Nairuu spoke.

"So now what? I s'pose we go ahead and talk to Faygoe?"

"Hold up Nai, I should think we should teach him the ins and outs of current life before we insert him into it. He clearly needs a refresher on how the world works right now."

"Fair. Heh. The other day, he asked me who the current condesce was."

Mavis stopped herself from laughing.

A/N: I guess this kind of goes without saying, but that last joke would be like if someone asked you if Caesar was still ruler of Rome.

Slightly shorter chapter this time. Probably a pretty long chapter next, either that or I break it up into two chapters of about this length. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
