Chapter 16: The Hulk.
The moment Enid and Thor stepped into the room, Enid feared they were too late, as everyone was already arguing.
"I'd like to know why SHIELD is using the Tesseract to make weapons of mass destruction." Bruce Banner was saying.
"They're what?" Enid demanded all thoughts of what they came in here for leaving her mind. The only thing she could think about was how crazy they all must be.
"You want to know why." Fury said pointing at Thor. "It's because of him."
"Me?" Thor demanded.
"Thor hasn't done anything to anyone," Enid said. Feeling both angry and insulted on Thor's behalf.
"Expect hit me a few times with his hammer, along with a little lighting." Stark put in. "Other than that.." He trailed off because nobody was listening.
"My people want nothing but peace with your planet," Thor said.
"All except for two of your people." Fury said. "This isn't the first time your brother," He turned to Enid," and your sister has attacked this planet, weren't they behind the grudge match that leveled a small town not too long ago? We learned then that we aren't the only ones out there but are also hilariously outgunned."
"Once we find the tesseract, I will be taking Loki back to Asgard to face Odin's justice; he will not be bothering this planet again," Thor said. Enid frowned at him. She couldn't help but feel a little hurt by Thor planning to leave her again, so willingly.
"You're not the only ones out there, are you?" Fury demanded. "Not the only threat. The world is filling up with people we can't match. Not to mention mutants seem to be getting more powerful each day, some want to take over."
"Mutants?" Thor asked, frowning.
"Some people on Midgard are born with this unique gene, a mutation, " Enid explained, "that either makes them look different, gives them special abilities, or sometimes both. They are some that are known to be pretty powerful; a few years ago, Saphira was friends with a mutant named Remy LeBeau; he could make things explosive by just a touch, he was harmless though, well as harmless as a thief, and cheat could be."
"The point is." Fury cut in. "We don't only have those from outer space we have to worry about, but those right here in our own backyard as well, those who we can't control or trust."
"Like you control the cube?" Rogers demanded. "As I said before, you should have left that thing in the bottom of the ocean."
"Where anyone might find it?" Stark demanded.
"Someone found it while it was in their possession." Banner put in. "Steve has a point probably would have been safer lift at the bottom of the ocean."
"You speak of control," Thor said, looking at Fury. "But you court chaos."
"It's his MO." Banner said, "what are we a team? No, we're a chemical mixer, a ticking time bomb about to go off."
"Dr. Banner," Enid spoke up; what he said made her remember why she and Thor came looking for them in the first place. "Guys, let's all calm down this is all a part of Loki's plan; he wants us to fight, he wants Banner to lose control."
"Why shouldn't he let off a little steam now and then," Stark said.
"You know damn well why." Rogers snapped. "So, back off."
"I'm starting to want you to make me," Stark said.
Enid groaned and threw her hands up, looked like they got here too late, this rate, Loki's plan was going to play out.
"I thought Earth was better than this." Thor said, "Saphira was right; you guys are full of nothing but hate for one another."
"Did you agree with my sister?" Enid demanded, surprised; Saphira and Thor have never agreed on anything.
"Excuse me but do we come to your planet and blow things up." Fury demanded.
"Your work on the tesseract is what drew Loki, Saphira, and their allies to it." Thor pointed out. "It is a signal that Earth is ready for a higher form of war."
"A higher form of war?" Fury repeated, "No, we were trying to protect our planet."
"You told Loki he shouldn't be messing with the tesseract, it was a power he didn't understand." Thor continued. "You were doing the same thing, you didn't understand the tesseract, and was messing with it, now you have two power-hungry gods out to take over your realm, because of your actions drawing them here."
"My sister warned Jane Foster about messing in this kind of stuff before the whole New Mexico thing." Enid said, "Same warning applies here you are letting Midgard get too noticed, next time someone even worse than Loki might show up."
"Worse than killing 80 people in two days," Romanoff said, speaking for the first time, Enid hadn't even noticed she was in here. Though she might have got here after Enid and Thor.
"Your reason for not doing this is why we felt we had to." Fury said. "We needed a sure way we can protect our planet from both outsiders and those on it."
"Those on it?" Thor demanded.
"Yes, mutants and whoever else might be lurking and living among us we don't know about." Fury said; he pointed at Enid. "She and her sister were on this planet for a century, and we never knew."
"A nuclear deterrent? because that always works well." Stark said.
"Remind me how you made your fortune, Mr. Stark." Fury said.
"From the same thing, he is trying to shame you for making," Enid answered.
"You are going to judge me on where my money came from?" Stark demanded. "You own a casino; you made your fortune from people gambling away their rent and mortgage payments."
"I've never killed anyone or caused anyone to die," Enid said. She was stepping a little towards Stark.
"No, but your sister has," Stark said. "How many was that again, Nat? Eighty people in two days?" He stepped a little closer to Enid.
"Which is not much compared to the number of people your bombs and missiles have killed in a single day," Enid said. "You have the deaths of thousands resting on your shoulders."
"I get the feeling you don't like me much," Stark said, stepping even closer to her; this time, Thor put his hand on Stark's chest and gave him a small shove.
"If you have a problem with Enid, then you have a problem with me," Thor warned.
"Really? Tony, you are going bully a woman?" Rogers spoke up.
"You got a problem with me, Spangles?" Stark demanded, turning his attention to Rogers; Enid groaned again and walked away from them when Stark and Rogers started arguing and threatening each other, then the others got in on it. Thor followed her.
"This is what Loki wanted," Enid told him. "If we are fighting among each other, then we can't stop him and Saphira."
"And then Banner turns into the Hulk, and things get even worse." Thor agreed.
"If they don't straighten up, put aside their petty difference and work together, they might find themselves kneeling to Loki as their king," Enid warned.
"We need to get them to stop fighting," Thor told her. They both looked toward the others, frowning. Banner had picked up the scepter and said something about how he stays in control, but then something over on the computers beeped; he put the scepter down and ran over to see what it was.
"Did you find the tesseract?" Thor demanded, but Banner didn't answer.
"Oh, ooh." Banner said; Enid frowned and walked over toward him to see what he saw, but at that time there was a bang, and the ship shook, then a big explosion, threw them all apart.; Enid felt herself go falling and landed hard a floor below, she moaned and slowly went to sit up, and noticed Romanoff lying a few feet away from her, a large metal pipe was lying across her legs, across from her Banner laid, he was upon his hands and knees, moaning and acting weird, Enid didn't have a good feeling about that.
"Bruce, it's okay." Romanoff was saying. "You're okay, and we're okay."
Enid was about to tell her maybe she shouldn't talk to him and try to avoid him seeing her, but before she got to, Banner suddenly grew and turned into a giant green creature, the Hulk. He looked at Romanoff and growled; she tried to get her legs free but couldn't, Enid stood, and with her telekinesis, she lifted the large pipe off Romanoff and tossed it at the Hulk, it strikes him in the chest, and he stumbled back a bit, but he just shook it off and turned to her and growled, Romanoff looked her way in shock.
"Run," Enid demanded, Romanoff, refused, even though she felt fear, she wasn't going to leave Enid to defend the Hulk off by herself, and as the Hulk headed towards Enid, Romanoff pulled out a gun and fired at him, but she might as well been missing, for the bullets couldn't go through Hulk's tough skin, it only made him angry, and he turned towards Romanoff; Enid used her telekinesis to make a pipe hanging from the ceiling break, and then fold itself around the Hulk's neck, and then pulled him back, the Hulk stumbled, and grabbed hold of the pipe and pulled, Romanoff took advantage and ran forward and drop kicked the Hulk's leg, he made an angry noise as he fell to one knee, Enid then had two more pieces of pipe wrap around his arms trying to hold him in place. Then rushed around to his front, put her hand on his shoulder, and looked him in the eyes, Hulk stopped struggling and stared back at her.
"Dr. Banner, time for you to come back out now," Enid said, "You don't want to hurt anyone." Enid tried to reach into the Hulk's mind in hopes of reaching Banner and pulling him out, but the moment she entered it, his mind was such a mess, between Hulk and Banner battling over control, Enid immediately had to pull back out, because Banner/ Hulk's mind was giving her an instant headache.
"Are you alright?" Romanoff asked when Enid stepped back and begin to rub her head, she has hardly ever used that ability, believing it wasn't right to invade someone's mind or personal thoughts unless she had to, and she has never had anything like that happen to her, then again she's never met anyone like Banner before, two different beings sharing the same body and mind, struggling for control.
While Enid was distracted, the Hulk got free of the pipes holding his arms pretty easily, he first hit Romanoff, knocking her across the room, then with an angry growl, he pulled the pipe off his neck and got to his feet, and turned to Enid. She backed up, and as he came towards her Romanoff pulled out her gun, and shot a pipe above their heads, steam shot out of it, blocking Enid from the Hulk's view.
"Hey, over here!" Romanoff yelled, getting his attention, Hulk turned his attention back to her, she turned and went running down the corridor, wanting the Hulk to chase her, but as he went to do so, Enid stepped in his path and stared him down, Hulk roared in angry and tried to move, but Enid's powers were stopping him, but barely as his strength seemed to be overpowering her mind, and she hadn't used her abilities like this in a long time and was a little rusty.
But still, even though Enid's head felt as if it was going to explode, she stared at the Hulk, as he roared in anger, his heavy feet were cracking the floor, where he was trying so hard to move. Enid wished Thor had fallen to this room with her, she had no doubt he could take on the Hulk. And she knew she was losing control, as Hulk was moving a little.
Hulk gave another roar, and Enid let out a gasp as he broke free from her hold and came running to her, Hulk grabbed Enid and tossed her across the ship, she hit a wall, and fall to the ground. Hulk kept roaring while hitting his chest, then as Enid was trying to get up, Hulk came running toward her, so Enid got back down and covered her head.
The Hulk was just a few feet from her when suddenly Thor came crashing through the wall and tackled the Hulk, they rolled away from each other and Thor got in front of Enid, who could tell he was mad.
"Do not touch her, ever again." Thor demanded, "Or I will kill you."
Hulk roared in response and he and Thor ran toward each other and ended up going through another wall as their bodies hit.
"Thor." Enid cried and got up and ran after them, she got there in time to see Thor knock Hulk back with Mjolnir. Enid stood in shock as she watched them fight, Hulk would toss Thor then, Thor would get a good hit on Hulk, back and forth it went, at one time Hulk hit Thor so hard, he went flying across the ship and hit the wall as Enid had, and from where she stood, she couldn't tell if Thor was knocked out or just stunned. Enid took a step towards him, but then with a rare Hulk went running past her and straight at Thor who was now slowly getting to his feet.
"No!" Enid, waved her hand and a protective bubble surrounded Thor when the Hulk went for him, he was unable to reach him, mad, he turned towards Enid and headed for her, making Thor yell out no, but Hulk didn't get near her as Enid used her abilities to through broken pieces of the ship at, him, metal pieces, and such, she even had him wrapped up and tied again, but it didn't help, he just got out of everything, but while Enid had him distracted Thor tackled Hulk to the ground, and their fight from moments ago continued.
Then suddenly a jet flew up to the ship and started shooting in at the Hulk, Thor cried Enid's name as he rushed over and pulled her to the ground and covered her with his body to protect her, and she put a protective bubble around them both. the Hulk turned his attention to the jet and ran toward it, jumping out of the hole in the side of the ship and grabbing onto the jet, they both went spinning out of sight.
Thor sat up off Enid with a sigh, she set up and they stared at each other for a moment, before they both laughed in relief. Thor smiled put his arm around Enid and pulled her to him.
"I missed you so much," Enid said, hugging him, and Thor kissed the top of her head.
"I was planning to come back to you once the Bifrost was fixed," Thor replied. Enid closed her eyes, the few months it had been just her and Thor together on Midgard as he tried to get worthy again, had been great for them, they had grown close again, and Enid found herself falling even more in love with him.
"I'm starting to understand how Saphira feels when everyone seems out to keep her and Loki apart," Enid remarked.
"And I have to separate them again," Thor answered. He didn't want to, but he had no choice, he wondered if keeping them apart is part of the reason they turned the way they have.
"You're also leaving me again," Enid replied, Thor's grip on her tightened.
"I swear to you I will be back." Thor promised, "we will live down here or on Asgard or anywhere you want, does not matter to me, as long as we are together."
Enid looked up and smiled at Thor, he leaned in and kissed her, then stood, and helped her to her feet.
"How did you know I was here?" Enid asked.
"Romanoff told me when we bumped into each other," Thor answered. He gave Enid a slight smile and pushed her hair out of her face. "I have never been more scared as I felt when she told me you were fighting the Hulk."
"I owe her a thank you if it hadn't been for her helping.." Enid didn't finish her sentence, she put her arms around Thor and hugged him again, her thoughts went to Loki and Saphira. "Where did we go wrong? How could Loki and Saphira turn so, so, " Enid couldn't say it.
"Evil?" Thor finished. Enid tightened her grip on him. "I do not know about Saphira, but I have been doing a lot of thinking, and I believe my Father can be somewhat to blame for Loki's actions."
"Your father?" Enid asked, looking up at him in surprise.
"I know Loki is an adult and his actions now are of his own," Thor explained. "But, if father had not kept who he truly was from him, treated him as a true son, treated him same as me, then maybe just maybe Loki would not have turned out the way he has, and I should have shown Loki more how much I truly do care about him, adore him as my brother and treated him as my equal. Now it is too late."
"Where are you getting this from?" Enid asked.
"Saphira," Thor answered.
"My sister Saphira?" Enid demanded.
"I visited her often in her cell." Thor explained, "She did not talk much, but when she did I listened."
"I don't know what's more shocking, you listening to Saphira or her not talking much," Enid replied.
"No one knows Loki the way Saphira does," Thor explained. "I just wanted to try and understand why he did what he did. "
"That's understandable," Enid replied.
"Enid," Thor said, he put his hands on her shoulders and looked her in the eyes. "We are not to blame for our sibling's wrongdoings, my brother and your sister are adults, they and our parents are both to blame for how they turned out."
"Our parents?" Enid asked, confused.
"Yes, my father and mother adopted Loki, he was their responsibility to take care of, to raise and teach good values to, same can be said for your sister and parents, we were not their parents, but yet I always ended up being the one to take care of Loki, get him out of trouble, you were that for Saphira."
"And here we are doing it again." Enid said, "Trying to clean up the mess my sister and your brother are causing."
"Let's go make sure my brother has not escaped," Thor said, putting his arm around Enid, she put her arm around his waist and walked with him. Heading towards the room Loki's cage was in. Enid hoped despite the chaos, that had been going on he was still locked up in it.
AN Hope this chapter and the fight was alright, I liked showing the two women working together, and wanted to show a little of what Enid can do, but of course, Hulk would way out power both of them, which is why I didn't think a fight between him and Enid and Black Widow would last long.
I also wanted Thor to be a little more understanding or try to understand how Loki feels and what drove him to be like he is.
