Chapter 17 A working plan
Enid and Thor walked through the ship with their arms around each other, until they reached the room Loki was in, then they let go of each other and entered to see, the cage door open, and Loki walking out; Thor shouted and ran toward him.
"Thor! Wait, it's..." Enid didn't get to finish as Thor went right through Loki's illusion and landed in his cage, in which Loki, of course, locked him in.
"Are you ever not going to fall for that," Loki demanded. Thor hit the glass in anger, putting a crack in it; Enid turned to Loki.
"Come on, Loki, let him out of there," Enid demanded. Loki turned to her with a grin.
"Where would the fun in that be?" Loki asked.
"You already had your fun, now let him out," Enid demanded.
"Oh, I think not," Loki replied. "I like him just where he is."
"Loki, I don't want to make my sister mad at me for hurting you, but I will if you don't let Thor out of there," Enid warned Loki laughed.
"Are you threatening me, " He turned to Thor "She is? Is she not? Enid's threatening me?" Loki turned back to Enid, "That's...cute." Enid glared at him.
"I'll do it myself," Enid said and went over to the controls; Loki rushed over and grabbed her arm in a gentle grip, to stop her from letting Thor out.
"Loki, let her go," Thor yelled, hitting the cage again, but Enid wasn't paying attention to him; she was looking down at the band on Loki's left ring finger.
"Is that what..."
"Yes," Loki answered; Enid looked up at him, blue eyes staring into his green ones.
"When?" Enid demanded.
"The night Saphira and I first got here," Loki answered; Enid jerked her arm away from his hand and walked back toward the cage. Thor looked between the two confused.
"Where?" Enid demanded.
"Las Vegas, Barton was our witness," Loki answered; he felt bad as he could see the hurt in her eyes, not because he and Saphira had gotten married but because she was in Las Vegas and didn't visit Enid.
"Witness to what?" Thor demanded. Even more confused.
"Thor, honey, look at your brother's left ring finger," Enid told him; Thor looked as Loki held it up for him to see, and his eyes widened.
"Married?" Thor demanded, "You and Saphira got married?"
"Indeed we did," Loki answered with a smile. "Of course, Saphira had to have what she called an engagement ring also, one with a big diamond."
"Of course she did," Enid mumbled; Saphira always loved jewelry, especially gemstones and diamonds. Anything that shined glittered or sparkled, Saphira loved.
"Now, if Saphira and I were to lose." Loki was saying," not likely, but still, if we were to fail, even Odin can not keep us apart for good."
"I do not understand." Thor frowned. He seemed to be saying that a lot today.
"Thor, remember we had to read about Asgardain marriage laws after we got in engaged." Enid said, "Even though they were married here if they used Asgardain vows.."
"We did," Loki said, then with a smirk he added. "Sister."
"Do not call me that," Enid demanded, pointing at him, then she turned back to Thor and explained. "Odin has to honor them. He will have to let them see each other from time to time."
"If that is true, brother, then stop this madness." Thor said, "Give up the tesseract, come home with me, we'll talk to father together, then when the Bifrost gets repaired, we'll come back for our loves."
"It's too late." Loki replied, "I can not stop now."
"It's never too late, Loki." Enid put in; Loki snickered and walked back and forth, tossing the scepter from one hand to the other, then turned back to them; Enid noticed he now had a bit of blue in his eyes.
"Look, I enjoyed the chit-chat with you two love birds, but I have a wife waiting for me," Loki said, pushing the guilt down and forcing a grin on his face; he turned to the controls. "You know Midgardians believe us immortal; let's test if that's true."
"Loki, don't, please," Enid said, rushing forward; she grabbed Loki's arm and tried to wrestle him away from the controls; Loki tried to get her off him without hurting his wife's sister.
"Enid!" Thor shouted in fear as he watched his girlfriend and brother wrestle around with each other. "Loki, do whatever you want to me, but please do not hurt her." He took Mjolnir and started to bang on the glass, trying to break out.
Loki finally got himself free from Enid, causing her to stumble back, then she righted herself, and glared at him.
"I promised Saphira you would not get hurt," Loki told her. "So, please stop trying to fight me. I do not wish to break that promise."
"Like she cares about anything other than herself and you." Enid spat. Loki laid his hand on her shoulder.
"Never doubt your sister's love for you," Loki told her. Enid shook his hand off her and stepped away from him. "She wanted nothing more than to come to see you but did not want to put you in danger. She tried to keep you out of all this."
"What have you done to my sister? What have you turned her into." Enid demanded.
"I have done nothing; Saphira is as she always been," Loki said. "We are not evil; we are doing this for all of us; she may not have said anything yet, but I know Saphira, I know how she thinks, she has it in her head that you and Thor will be married happily living on Asgard, she wants to bring the two realms together, we'll be great rulers you know, come with me, talk to Saphira, you will see."
"I'm not going anywhere with you," Enid said. "You and all your ruling and taking over bullshit, you brainwashed my sister."
"I did no such thing." Loki shouted," You know Saphira, you know she's always loved being the best, winning."
"Winning yes, beating everyone yes, in games, sports," Enid said. "She can fight, but she would weather win a beauty pageant than a battle; that's all you and your need to be a King. My sister had always been unruly, but she has very rarely been violent, not until you came back into her life."
"Do not ever accuse me of doing anything to my wife," Loki ordered; his calm demeanor and low voice frightened Enid a little. Then in his anger hit the bottom that dropped Thor's cage.
"Thor, " Enid cried, running over but too late; he and his cage were gone; Enid turned back around to face Loki. "What the hell is wrong with you? How could you be so cruel? You expect me to believe Saphira is safe with you when you do that to your own brother?"
"Do not dare," Loki warned. "I have never done anything, but be there for her, love her, take care of her, protect her."
"Then why did you drag her into all this," Enid demanded. "This dangerous idiotic plan of yours is going to get you both hurt or even killed."
"It's not what you think. None of this is." Loki said, "Saphira and I, yeah we want to rule Midgard, but we did not attack because of that, it was not my idea, they are beings out there, plotting against not just Midgard but all worlds, realms, and planets, under Saphira and my rule Earth could be protected."
"What are you talking about," Enid demanded.
"Those very beings are who sent me here." Loki said, "I only agreed to this because they threatened Saphira; I had no choice; they would have tortured her. In ways you could not imagine, believe me, I went through it. It was pain and misery I would not even wish for Thor to go through." Enid stared at Loki in shock for a moment. "If I lose, they will come after us; go after her."
"Oh my God, Loki, what the hell did you get Saphira into?" Enid demanded.
"Me?" Loki demanded, gripping the scepter tighter. "How dare you suggest."
"Don't give me that wounded Loki act," Enid demanded. She went to say something else, but Loki cut across her.
"It was all Thor's fault," Loki yelled, so loud Enid jumped. "He's the one who broke the damn bridge, causing me to fall into an abyss, where they were able to get a hold of me."
"You can't blame Thor for that; he had to break it to stop you from destroying jotunheim." Enid said, "Another one of your idiotic schemas you cooked up that got you in trouble, and once again, my sister got caught up in it every time you are with Saphira; you do nothing but get her into trouble. Even on Asgard..."
Loki cut her off by laughing, a laugh that somehow sounded angry, and his eyes looked mad, it was a bit frightening.
"Oh, you do not want to bring up our lives on Asgard." Loki said, "You who got so wrapped up in your life with Thor, you never even noticed your father would lock your sister up and keep her prisoner in her own home."
"Father did what?" Enid demanded.
"I was the one there for Saphira, not you." Loki answered, "Thanks to my idiotic schemes, I was able to help her escape for a while."
"You should have told me." Enid said, "I would have gone to the house and gotten her out of there."
"That bastard, I'd give anything for him to be alive now so I could kill him." Loki said, "And it is all because some damn snitch on Asgard couldn't keep their mouth shut and mind their own business."
"Did you say father did this because someone told on you two?" Enid asked, frowning.
"If I ever find out who it was, I will kill them too," Loki growled.
"I...don't know what to say; I knew Father and Saphira never got along well, he couldn't stand her wild nature, but to lock her up," Enid said. "Was it because he...did he know you are a jotuun, father hated them with a passion."
"I am only half jotuun; besides what I am is not a good reason for doing what he did," Loki told her.
"I didn't say it was." Enid denied. "But Mother told me once that he hated them so much because he had two brothers, killed in the war."
"I can not believe my ears," Loki said, "You are making excuses for him."
"I am not," Enid replied.
"Do you know what he put her through?" Loki demanded. "He was not only locking her up, but he also called her dishonorable names, said he was ashamed of her, he hated her, threatened to send her off-world, threatened to disown her, and all because she was in love with me."
"I never knew; Saphira never told me," Enid said.
"You should have noticed, but you were too wrapped up in your world," Loki told her. "Planning your perfect wedding to your perfect guy."
"I'm surprised she doesn't hate me," Enid said.
"Indeed," Loki remarked
"You would love it if she did, wouldn't you?" Enid demanded.
"Why would I?." Loki demanded.
"Because Saphira is the only one you care about." Enid explained, " So, you want you to be the only one she cares about."
"Do you know how stupid that sounds?" Loki demanded. "Yes, I admit Saphira is the only person I give a damn about anymore, but that's just because she is the only one that has ever given a damn about me; that does not mean I do not want her to care about anyone else, you make it sound as if I want her to turn into some monster, I do not. Saphira is perfect the way she is."
"Don't give me that nobody gave a damn about your bullshit." Enid demanded."You know for a fact Thor always adored you, Frigga your mother, loved you, Odin loved you too even if he never showed it, I thought of you as a friend, so, I don't know where you got it in your head nobody but Saphira has ever cared about you."
"I have been lied to about who I was my whole life." Loki yelled," Raised to fear and hate my kind, to view jotuun as monsters only to find out I am one, sorry, if that messes with a person's head a bit."
"You were lied to by your parents, not by me and not by Thor." Enid answered," We did not know of your adoption any more than you did."
"Saphira seems to be the only one who understands why I am so angry about this," Loki said.
He gripped the scepter real tight in his hand, and suddenly a blast shot from it and headed towards Enid, she cried out and was able to jump out of the way and land on the ground hard, she even ripped her pants on a piece of metal sticking up out of the floor. Loki looked at the scepter in his hand in shock, he didn't do that, he didn't mean to do that. His anger was causing him to drop his guard, and the mind stone mess with his head without Loki realizing it; he took a deep breath to calm himself, as he pointed the scepter towards the ground. Saphira would never forgive him if he hurt her sister, accident or not. Something he almost just did.
"Enid, are you alright?" Loki asked, quietly "I..am so sorry, didn't mean to do that, I swear." He took a step to her wanting to make sure she was okay, but Enid held out her hand and backed away.
"Loki, please." Enid suddenly said, sounding scared.
"I would never hurt you, " Loki swore, taking a step toward her, but before he could say more, Nick Fury suddenly appeared next to her, pointing a gun at Loki.
"Step away from the lady, drop your weapon, and put your hands up." Fury demanded Loki backed away and held up the hand, not holding the scepter. He looked to his sister-in-law, who had pulled herself to her feet.
"Enid, " Loki tried again. "Please, you have to know I wouldn't."
"Loki, don't, ... just don't," Enid told him, for a split second she felt bad, as hurt was clear on Loki's face, but then he shook his head and forced out a laugh.
"It's been a fun visit, but I do have a beautiful bride I need to get back to," Loki said. "How do the Midgardains say it? Oh yes, I'll see you later alligator." Then Loki disappeared in a swirl of green magic.
"Did he say, bride?" Fury asked; Enid nodded.
"Loki and my sister got married the night they arrived on Earth," Enid answered.
"And the disappearing with sparkly green light, I'm guessing he could have done that at any time he was here." Fury asked.
"It would appear so," Enid said.
"Motherfucker." Fury swore, finally putting his gun down, "You guys could have warned us about that."
"I didn't know." Enid defended. "I'm not all that familiar with what Loki can do; I'm not sure if Thor even knows."
"Looks like we all got planned." Fury groaned, then turned back to Enid. "You going to be okay?"
"Yes," Enid answered. "I just need a minute."
"Sir, " Maria Hill came rushing into the room carrying a cell phone. "It's the Professor."
Fury took the phone and put it to his ear. "Hey, Charles, yeah, Nick Fury here, I have a bit of a situation on my hands." He was saying as he left the room, Hill following next to him.
Enid ignored them as she sat down and did something she hadn't done in years, and that was to cry; after letting it all out, she whipped her eyes, then stood up and headed to find the others; it was time to go stop Loki and Saphira.
"I'm going with you," Enid said as she walked onto the quinjet; the ones left were on getting ready to go, Iron Man would be flying ahead, Clint Barton would be flying the jet, she, Captain America, and Black Willow would be riding along.
"Are you sure you are up to this?" Rogers asked.
"Yes, " Enid said, "I've been in battles before." The three others looked at each other.
"Are you willing and ready to fight your sister if you have to?" Romanoff asked.
"No, " Enid replied; they frowned at her. "I will fight the aliens, I'll even fight Loki if it comes down to it, but I will not and can not fight my sister, but I will not stop or interfere in any of you doing so, I know she as much as Loki needs to be stopped."
"Good, " Barton told her. "I owe that little bitch some payback. Her and Loki." Enid bit the inside of her jaw to stop herself from snapping at him.
"I ask one thing of you," Enid said.
"What's that?" Barton demanded.
"Please, don't take her life, stop her, arrest her, lock her up, whatever needs to be done, but do not kill her," Enid asked.
"There is no way of knowing the outcome of the battle." Rogers said, "But we will do everything we can to stop Saphira and Loki without taken either of their lives."
"That's all I ask." Enid reply.
"I was hoping you would come with us." Romanoff said, "I saw how you handled the Hulk, we can use all the help we can get."
"You sure you can fight in that?" Barton demanded, waving his hands towards Enid's outfit. Enid just raised her eyebrow, and dark purple light surrounded her; when it disappeared, she was no longer in her work clothes but in the outfit, she wore into battle on Asgard. Black leather pants, trimmed in dark blue and purple , matching top, and boots, with a metal protective plate covering her top, metal armbands, and a small sword hung from her side.
"That should do it," Rogers said, as they stared at her in shock, then Barton closed the door, they all sat down, and the jet took off, following Iron Man towards New York.
In AN Next chapter we get back to Saphira, and we'll see a bit of another character I "borrowed" for this story, chapter after that will have even more. and if anyone is wondering Loki was concerned about Enid, he did like her, she was the only one of Thor's friends that always showed him genuine respect and kindness, and not just because he was Thor's brother.
