CHAPTER SEVEN

Jesse couldn't sleep. She was too amped up from her encounter with Knight, and if she was truly honest, the aftermath with Slattery. She was mad at herself for losing control in the first place, and she was doubly mad at herself for not being able to forget being pinned by Slattery. She was in the gym working off her extra aggression and anger.

She was putting herself through a vigorous kickboxing regimen attacking the bag with all her might. If the bag had been a live person, they may be dead by now, but she wasn't done so she worked. She'd been there not quite an hour when the doors opened up. She paused briefly and saw Slattery walk in. She internally groaned. Oh boy.

She worked at the bag harder, trying to flush all the feelings out of her system. She glanced over and saw Slattery was working on one of the machines. She pulled her attention back to the bag and worked harder, pushing her limits. Her ribs burned but she used the pain to fuel her. After another ten minutes she had to stop. Jesse had exerted a great deal of energy.

She went over to the treadmill and did a cool down run to walk. Slattery moved to the treadmill next to her and started his own run program. Neither spoke and Jesse was grateful for that because she didn't know what to say. Slattery had been very respectful of the boundaries she had set, but she knew he was trying to get to know her better. He had shared a lot about himself, but she was still stand offish and not ready to open up to anybody.

That fear of losing again was very strong and very real. As her run came to an end, she knew she needed to work the bag again. Her mind was still amped on high gear, and she wasn't quite to the exhaustion mark she wanted to be. She left Slattery still running and walked back to the bag where she ran through a series of kicks and punches.

She was lost in her thoughts, her body running on autopilot as she worked through her emotions. The bag had been floppy and responsive but all the sudden it was firm and stern. She glanced at the bag and noticed that Slattery was behind it holding it. She stopped her routine and stared at him.

"What are you doing?" she asked. He paused a moment, thinking his answer over.

"Looked like you could use a spot on the bag," Mike said quietly, almost shyly. She nodded, waited a moment, then resumed her routine of kicks and punches. She could feel her muscles finally relaxing, the tension and adrenaline finally releasing. She slowed her moves, going into a cool down routine before finally stopping. She reached for the towel she had close by and wiped her face. Slattery was standing, leaning against the bag watching her.

"You, okay?" he finally asked. When she looked up at him, she saw the concern for her on his face.

"Yes," she said, draping the towel over her shoulders. They stood like that, eyes locked for a long time, Jesse was studying him, as he studied her. She started to feel self-conscious and dropped her eyes from his.

"Tough day," Mike said gently and stepped from behind the bag. Jesse looked up at him and licked at her lips. He was sparking feelings in her she wished she could bury. He came up in front of her and stopped. She could see in his eyes his intensions and it scared her a little. Because she knew she could easily give in too. It had been a long time since she had felt the need for physical attention.

"Slattery," she said in a warning tone. He stopped and looked over her shoulder at the wall, maybe a little disappointment on his face. They stood for a moment longer, silence between them.

"What's your first name?" he asked suddenly. Jesse was a little surprised by the question. She was sure that he would have just looked it up by now. He took a step closer, and she took a step back. He smiled a crooked smile and stepped closer again.

Jesse was feeling the heat from his body and hers was reacting in kind. The look in his eyes told her what he wanted, and she wasn't sure if she could say she didn't want it. He was still waiting for her answer, and she again stepped back to put distance between them. He stepped closer still and when she stepped back again, she collided gently with the wall.

Slattery stepped up again and there was only an inch between them, and she didn't have anywhere to go. He reached his arms out and placed his hands against the wall, just above her shoulders. He stood, not moving after that. Jesse felt her breathing increase, and the adrenaline she had worked out earlier, was returning. His eyes were intense, and he watched her closely.

She could tell he was still waiting for an answer to his question, but she couldn't seem to say it. She knew if he said her first name it would be over for her, and she hung onto that last bit of control. He leaned his mouth down next to her ear, his breath skittering over her skin, sending shockwaves through her system.

"I guess I'll let it go for now," he whispered into her ear. She shivered involuntarily, desire rocking through her body. She closed her eyes and swallowed hard, willing her body to stay still. "I've been thinking about you," Slattery confessed. She nearly came unglued when she felt his lips brush along the top of her ear. Her hands shot out and pressed against his chest, her fingers feeling the muscles under his t-shirt.

She pushed slightly. Not enough to shove him away, but enough he got the hint and pulled his head back. He locked eyes with her, and she felt another rush of desire sweep through her, pooling in her center. She needed to make a choice. She was torn as she didn't want to put herself into an awkward position, but her body was aching for physical release.

Slattery waited, watching that internal battle wage out in her eyes. He licked his lips and leaned down a fraction, but she didn't respond so he stopped.

"What do you want, Second Place?" he asked, his voice thick and husky. "You make the call."

She knew exactly what he wanted, it was written all over his face, and his body. She wasn't ready yet. She didn't know what she wanted. So, she said the first thing that came into her mind.

"Spar. Me vs. You," she said a little breathily. The words surprised her a little, and from the look on Slattery's face, him as well. He stepped back a step.

"Lead the way," he said. And she could tell it made him nervous, but he was willing to do what she wanted. She walked over to the boxing ring and climbed in. Slattery followed suit.

"Mild contact rules," she said as she set herself. She watched as Slattery made himself ready. It looked like his training was primarily boxing from the way he set up.

Jesse made the first move, testing his abilities. He was able to anticipate and block. She smiled. For the next half hour, they sparred with Jesse pinning him most of the times. She let him win twice, just to bolster his ego. Jesse was letting him score a hit when she quickly dropped down and swept his feet out, knocking him down to the mat on his back. She quickly straddled his hips and pressed down with her hands on his shoulders, pinning him to the mat. She expected him to just buck her off or roll and pin her, using his superior weight, but he didn't. His next moved surprised her and took her breath away.

He freed an arm and gripped the back of her neck, pulling her down as he sat forward. His lips crashed into hers and he kissed her slow and sensual. The shock of the moment froze her for a long moment before the sensation of what he was doing won out and she joined in the kiss.

She felt his tongue smooth along her lips and she opened her mouth, allowing the kiss to deepen and become a frenzy of teeth, lips, and tongues. Her body lost its fight, and she molded herself on top of him, chest to chest, as they continued to duel with their tongues.

Jesse worked air in and out through her nose and neither one was willing to break the sweet friction of their mouths. She felt him rotate his hips under her and the unmistakable feel of his erection pressed hard against her core. His hands were roaming her body, as hers were on the mat directly over his shoulders.

She felt him snake his hand under her t-shirt and caress the soft skin of her torso. Need and desire took over her brain and blinded her to anything else. She wanted more contact. She broke the kiss away long enough to sit up on his lap and strip her shirt and bra off then crashed her mouth back down to his. His hands found her breasts and gently massaged them, sending shivers down her spine. She sunk her hips down further grinding over his erection and felt his chest hitch with desire. He broke his mouth from hers and pushed up into a sitting position, cradling her in his lap. His mouth found her nipple and sucked, and she arched her back.

She reached down and grabbed the hem of his shirt and yanked it up he broke his mouth away and finished removing it from his body before he kissed her neck and jaw. Jesse grabbed his face in both her hands and pulled it up and mashed their mouths together again. Heat was overtaking her, and she felt the tingling in her limbs. Slattery gripped the waist of her workout pants and started to tug on them as he kissed her passionately. She reached down and helped him remove them. As soon as they were off, he bucked his hips, gripped her upper body and flipped them over on the mat so she was under him.

He maneuvered enough to slide his shorts off and then gently placed his body over hers. He looked her in the eye and then slowly and sensually kissed her as his fingers trailed down her belly and inner thigh. She arched when she felt him feeling her core, and gasped when he stuck a few fingers in, rubbing his palm against her clit. He kissed her once more on the mouth then left a trail of kisses down her neck and chest.

She closed her eyes as she felt an organism building in her center. Slattery then pulled his hand back and cupped the back of her head. She opened her eyes and stared at him as he pushed his erection into her. A gasp of pleasure escaped her mouth as he crashed his down over her. He started to move, and she matched his movements, relishing in the feelings he was stimulating inside her.

Her belly was tightening and the tingling in her feet was growing as he rhythmically thrust into her. She closed her eyes and leaned back against the mat to let the sensations wash over her. Slattery's thrusts were no longer in a steady rhythm as he was moving with more frantic moves. She felt her inside spill over the top and the wonderful convulsions inside start.

She could hardly breathe as she rode the wave of ecstasy as her orgasm blew through her. She felt her muscles squeezing him as he groaned under his breath. Then he was over the top as his own release came, his mouth finding hers. They kissed slowly as he pushed a few last times into her. He settled half on top of her, half on the mat, his breathing heavy.

As her brain cleared the fog of orgasm, she realized what had just happened and she started to panic. This was going to complicate the shit out of her life, and she hated complicated. He was her boss; they would see each other all the time. She wasn't ready for this kind of intimacy with someone she saw on a daily basis. Her body tensed and her hands came against his chest, pushing a little. Slattery seemed to sense the change in her demeanor and picked his head up, looking at her.

She wondered if her eyes looked as wild as her brain felt as she squirmed to get free of his weight. He lifted the part of his body that was on her and settled on his side next to her, his hand lingering on her stomach. Flight took over her senses and she knew she had to get out of there in a hurry. She couldn't face him; couldn't face the pain she knew she was going to see in his eyes.

Panic enveloped her brain and she turned away from him, searching for her clothes. She grabbed her pants and shirt as quickly as she could and then walked away into the woman's locker room. She was sure he was watching her go, most likely stunned, but she couldn't bring herself to look back, or say anything. She just needed to be gone.

Once in the locker room she showered quickly, washing all traces of what they had just done away. Tears slipped down her face as she knew she had made a mistake. Even as right and wonderful as it had felt, she knew she shouldn't have given in to that temptation. She shouldn't have challenged him to spar, she should have excused herself to bed when he asked what she wanted. God, she didn't even know what she wanted, and that fact scared the shit out of her.

Now she'd screwed it all up. She had really liked this job, besides the one cocky recruit. And her anger grew even deeper as she blamed Knight for everything that happened tonight. That one cocky son of a bitch managed to ruin everything she had going. How was she going to face Slattery after that wild sex they had just had?

She had really messed up. Freshly showered and cleaned off, she threw her clothes on and hurried out the back door of the locker room, trying desperately to avoid Slattery. She hurried across the parking lot and walked up to the men's barracks and knocked on the door for the officer's quarters. She knew the other trainers were staying in there and she needed to see Tex. She needed the keys to the jeep. The door opened and Gavin West answered the door. He took in her agitated state and took a slight step back.

"Second Place, what's up?" Gavin asked wearily. She bit at the inside of her cheek, knowing she must look a mess.

"Tex here?" she asked quickly. Gavin glanced over his shoulder into the room, before answering her.

"Uh, yeah. Let me get him," he said with concern. She knew he knew something was amiss. He walked into the room calling for Tex and told him she was at the door. Tex came up quickly, concern on his face when he saw hers.

"Hey, what's the matter?" Tex asked gently as he stepped outside and closed the door behind him. She was grateful for that.

"I need the keys to the jeep."

"What's going on?"

"I fucked up and I need to put some distance for now."

"Okay, it's not really that bad. The kid will be fine," Tex said, and Jesse realized he thought this was about Knight. She didn't bother to correct him and just pursed her lips.

"Sure. Can I have the keys or am I hitchin' a ride to town?"

"Calm down, I'll grab the keys. Just do me a favor," Tex said as he reached for the door handle. Jesse bounced from foot to foot impatiently.

"What," she said roughly.

"Don't do anything stupid," Tex was saying.

"Too fucking late," she mumbled as images of her sex with Slattery flashed through her mind.

"Like drive drunk is what I was going to say," he said looking at her curiously. "You sure you're, okay?"

"Just give me the keys," Jesse said feeling a tightness in her chest. Tex nodded and disappeared inside for a moment. He came back out dangling the keys in front of her. She grabbed them but he didn't let go.

"Want some company?" he asked, and she could hear the concern in his voice for her. She took a deep breath, thought about it, then decided this was one fuck up she needed to drown by herself.

"Thanks, but not tonight," she huffed and yanked the keys from him. He held his hands up in surrender. Jesse walked away from him and got in the jeep, driving away from the mess she had just created.

Jesse drove aimlessly as the tears streamed down her face. Boy had she fucked this up. Slattery was a good guy and she had to admit that she gave into the sex because she was attracted to him, and not in a small way. She liked his manner, his slowness of approach, his acceptance of her not wanting to share.

He was a good-looking man, and still in very good shape. She liked his easy manner and joking ways. She liked how gentle he could be but knew he could use his brute force if needed. She sat in Tex's jeep with her forehead against the steering wheel and cried. She had really screwed this up.

After an hour of crying, she picked her head up and put the jeep in gear. She had no idea where she was going, she had nowhere to go but back and she couldn't do that yet. It was early in the morning, so she needed to find somewhere to hunker down until she figured out where to go and what she wanted to do. She just knew she couldn't face Mike Slattery right now.
