A/N: A writing exercise I did on the subject of last chances.

Disclaimer: I don't own anything, and all that jazz!

Inuyasha stared at the now complete jewel that sparkled in his hand. Naraku had been defeated. They spent one more year after collecting the rest of the shards. In that time, Miroku had married Sango just as he had promised her he would. So it was only Kagome and Shippou with him on most of the hunts.

After all of the battles, injuries, the friends made and lost, it was down to him and this tiny marble shaped jewel. He had one more chance to make everything right, get rid of this jewel forever.

It was his one chance at happiness.

Kagome was smiling when she had handed it to him. "Well, nows your chance to become full demon, Inuyasha," she told him cheerfully.

He wasn't so sure that was what he wanted anymore. He knew once he wished Kagome would have to go back to her time. She would be forced to, to make everything balance now that her task was done.

He could wish to be human. He would have for Kikyo, but again, Kagome would disappear. He didn't want to be human only to lose her. SHE would be his reason to become human. What was the point if she wasn't going to be there too?

He knew what he had to do, what he would wish for.

Asking for everyone to meet him at the well, he said his goodbyes to the companions who had become his family over the past five years and made his wish.

"Inuyasha! Wake up!" He felt someone shaking him. "Come on! We will be late for class!"

He groaned, opening his eyes to see Kagome nose to nose with him.

"Kagome?" He asked, confused.

She looked at him like he had lost his mind. "Duh! Who else would it be?"

He grinned and pulled her in bed with him. "Class can wait!" He chuckled, kissing her delighted at her squeal.

He couldn't be happier.

He looked at his friends, then to the jewel that rest in his palm. It glowed, calling to him to use it.

"I wish to be human, living in Kagome's time, so we can finally be together."
