AN This chapter is happening at the same time Enid's chapter was after Thor left, it's what Thor was doing, and I have characters I have not shown yet. Hopefully, I did a good job portraying them. This is the first time I've written a chapter with mostly talking than anything, I hope I did a good job, and it's not confusing.
Chapter 60: Making Plans.
Thor doesn't think he's ever met anyone like Sam Wilson; he was loud, energetic, and funny but was also a genuinely nice guy. Thor could see why Steve Rogers struck up a friendship with him; Thor decided he liked Sam; he was immediately ready to help once Steve explained the problem to him, and Sam said he knew a guy that might be able to help, and that's how Thor found himself on an airplane, with Sam Wilson and Steve Rogers, along with Tempest flying to San Francisco, then renting a car, checking in a hotel, then getting up early the following morning and hopping in the car and driving to Sam's friend's house.
"This is the place, here." Sam Wilson said from the back seat; Thor slowed the car then turned into the driveway; Sam had helped Steve during the whole Hydra taken over SHIELD thing and then helped him find Bucky before Steve brought him to Thor and Enid for help. When Thor first met Sam, he briefly imagined a conversation between Sam and Loki because Sam had the same energy as Loki, minus the chaotic nature. Thor decided that would be an amusing conversation to watch.
"You sure this is the place?" Thor asked, turning off the car.
"It's the right address," Sam answered, opening his door and getting out.
Thor got out and closed the door; as Steve opened his side and climbed out of the car, together, the three walked towards the house. At the moment, Thor and Steve were trying to gather people who might be willing to not only help locate Vision but also willing to break into wherever he was being held and help rescue him; before leaving New York, Steve asked both Natasha Romonaoff and Clint Barton, both declined without really giving a reason. However, Thor was sure that reason was Tony Stark.
"He has a kid." Thor pointed to the pink child-size bike lying in the yard. "Perhaps a girl."
"Yeah, when I did some digging, I found out he has a daughter," Sam replied. "She's like six or something."
"I can not wait until Fenrir gets that age," Thor said.
"Whose Fenrir?" Sam asked.
"My nephew." Thor answered, "Not yet a year old, so he's just a tiny thing, but he can crawl and walk and speaks, well, he can say one word."
"You're telling me Loki has a kid?" Sam demanded.
"Yes, and he's the most adorable thing ever born," Thor said proudly, and he pulled his phone out of his pocket and brought up a picture of Fenrir.
"Cute kid," Sam replied, "Too bad about his parents."
"Loki and Saphira aren't like they used to be," Thor defended as the door opened; a tall skinny guy with dark hair stood looking at them with wide eyes.
"Scott Lang?" Sam stepped forward and greeted. "May we come in?"
"I haven't done anything lately," Scott said.
"You're not in trouble," Steve said. "We only want to talk."
"Oh, sure, come in," Scott said, moving out of the way, looking like a combination of confused, star-struck, and spooked; it was a weird look to see on someone's face.
"You guys need anything?" Scott asked, "Are you thirsty? Hungry?"
"No, we are fine," Steve said, sounding amused, as he and Thor sat down on the sofa; Sam stayed standing. "We came to talk to you about something and wondered if you could help us."
Steve started explaining everything to Scott about Vision and how they needed to get Vision back no matter what; he even explained to him about the mind stone, what it was, what it could do, that it came from Loki's scepter he used during his invasion, how that stone is the reason Ultron came to life, and that in the wrong hands it could be dangerous which is why they needed to get Vision back.
"This is...big," Scott said, standing and putting his hands on his hips, "And you came to me for help? How did you even hear of me?"
"I believe you know my friend Sam," Steve said, pointing at Sam. "He's the one that suggested asking you."
"Sam, yeah, you're the guy with the wings," Scott said, moving his arms in a wing-like movement."
"Yeah, the guy with the wings." Sam replied, "The name's Falcon."
"So, can you help us?" Steve asked.
"I'm willing to help you, but do you even know where this robot with the magical gemstone is?" Scott asked.
"That we do not," Thor replied; Scott nodded and looked to be thinking.
"Sounds like what you guys need is someone who can hack into computers, find the files get the location of your Vision," Scott said.
"Do you know anyone?" Steve asked.
"I might let me talk to my buddies and see; I'll get back to you in a few days," Scott answered. Thor and Steve stood.
"That's fine," Steve replied, "Do you have a piece of paper and pen; I'll write my number down."
"I should; let me go look." Scott left the room for a moment; while he was gone, something came crawling down the stairs and into the living room, thinking it must be a dog; Thor looked around to play with it, only to be shocked at the sight of a giant ant standing there, he jumped behind Steve and pulled Mjolnir from his side.
"Jesus," Sam swore as he backed up away from it. "That can't be real, can it?" At that time, Scott came back into the room and chased it off.
"Since when do ants grow that big?" Steve asked.
"Let's say he's a special ant and leave it at that," Scott answered, handing Steve a piece of paper and a pen.
"I can do that," Steve replied as he wrote his number down and handed it back to Scott, who shook their hands before Steve, Sam, and Thor left.
"Scott Lang seems like a nice guy," Thor said, opening the door and getting in.
"Yeah, he does," Steve replied, shutting his door then putting on his seat belt; just as Sam got in the back and closed his door, Thor began to back out of the driveway.
"Have you talked to Enid?" Steve asked.
"Yeah, she said Magneto's campaign seems to be going well," Thor replied, stopping at a red light. "It would seem, Graydon Creed is unliked by many."
"But having someone like Magneto winning?" Sam asked, "Are we sure that's any better?"
"Probably not," Thor answered, "But he will be against the registration act passing."
"Do you and Enid know what you're going to do if it does pass?" Steve asked as Thor made a turn.
"Asgard," Thor answered. "We'll probably go back home."
"I guess I can't blame you?" Steve replied, "Wouldnt be the same without you two around."
"We'll keep in touch if we go." Thor replied, "Perhaps we can make yearly visits; I don't want to, but I will not live in a Realm where I have to report everything I do like I'm a child checking in with my parents."
"Hey, I hear that," Sam replied, "If that act passes and there is any hint of my name being on the list, I'm leaving the country."
"I'll probably be forced to also." Steve said, frowning, "I can't let Bucky be locked up in an asylum somewhere. He won't be able to handle that. I'll try to get Bruce to go with us."
Thor pulled into the hotel parking lot; Steve put on a pair of sunglasses and a cap on his head, and Thor covered his head with a hoodie, both trying not to be recognized; Sam didn't seem to care; he did nothing to hide who he was, as they got out of the car and headed into the hotel, then straight to the elevator, not much they could do right now other than waiting for Scott Lang to call. So, they sat around talking, went out for food, and later that night, when Steve and Sam went to their room, Thor decided to call Loki, since he hadn't called him in a while; he talked with his brother, as he sat on his bed with Tempest, she laid next to him, as Thor scratched between her horns. The cat-like creature had grown even more, now a little bigger than a Main Coon cat.
"Did you kill him?" Loki demanded after Thor got done telling Loki about Enid getting mugged.
"I was more worried about Enid's wellbeing than chasing after the mugger," Thor replied.
"Now that you know Enid is okay, find out who the guy was and kill him," Loki replied.
"Loki, I can't do that," Thor said, rolling his eyes.
"Why not?" Loki demanded, "You have to make an example out of him. Let the world know putting their hands on the wife of Thor will bring them nothing but misery and death."
"You can be frightening sometimes, brother," Thor said, and Loki started laughing, "Besides, the guy was wearing a mask; I have no idea who he is."
"You said he overpowered Enid with strength," Loki said, "There is your first clue, brother; Enid's mugger was a mutant."
"What makes you say that?" Thor asked.
"Enid is an Asgardain/Ljosalfar hybrid; she's more potent than your run-of-the-mill Midgardain." Loki replied, "Mutants, on the other hand, some have inhuman strength. To outdo Enid in strength, unless another Captain America or James Barns is running around, then Enid's attacker has to be a mutant."
"But she's on their side; she's been very vocal with mutant's rights and helping Magneto," Thor replied.
"Magneto has been viewed as a villain more often than not; there will be those against him winning," Loki replied, "Or, it could have just been a down on his luck mutant that needed money and saw an opportunity of possibly getting loads by stealing from a woman known to be rich."
"It was probably the latter." Thor agreed; he went to say something else, but someone in the background called for Loki. He answered them before returning to his conversation with Thor.
"Sorry, brother; mum needs my help with something; we'll talk later." Loki hung up, and Thor decided to call Enid and tell her what Loki thought; of course, his wife had already figured that out. Thor smiled as he talked to her; Enid was a brilliant, kind, and stern woman who listened to both sides, and tried to be fair, all qualities that'll make a great queen.
It took Scott Lang a week to call Steve, the day after the call; Thor was pulling up in front of a run-down-looking apartment building where Scott was standing outside waiting on them; they greeted him, then he led them into the building and to the top floor, where his friends were waiting. Scott's friends were three guys named Luis, Dave, and Kurt. They all seemed excited to meet them.
"Kurt," Thor repeated his name as he shook Kurt's hand, "My brother has a brother named Kurt."
"He's not your brother?" Kurt asked.
"No, " Thor answered, "He's only a friend."
"Hang on; you're talking about Loki?" Dave said.
"Yes, I am," Thor answered.
"Oh, Loki, man, he's stupid cool," Luis said, "With the big staff thing that shoots out lasers and the giant helmet with the big horns and walks around like a boss, your brother's badass." Thor raised his eyebrows.
"His brother tried to take over the planet," Sam said, looking at Luis like he was crazy.
"Yeah, man, you have to respect," Luis replied, "He wanted to rule the world and did his best to make that happen; he wanted something and sat out to get it no matter how big that was. Goals, man."
"He killed dozens of people," Sam said like he couldn't believe what he was hearing.
"Yeah, that part's not cool, but hey, he has a hot wife." Luis reasoned.
"Scott, you said you could help us," Steve spoke up, stopping the conversation.
"Yeah, Kurt, here is a computer wiz; he can hack into any computer, and Luis and Dave, well, are all a part of my crew; they're willing to help us."
"Does this android of yours have a tracker on him?" Kurt asked, "If so, that would be easier than taking months trying to hack into a computer system made by Tony Stark."
"No, Vision isn't like other androids," Thor answered, "He has no trackers."
"Can his programming be hacked into?" Kurt asked, "Or is there any computer connected to him?"
"He made robots," Thor replied, "Enid has them working in housekeeping at her casino; I believe Enid said he has them connected to him so that Vision could keep track of where they were at all times."
"That sounds like he has a tracker in them," Kurt replied, "If I had one, I might be able to figure out a way to hack into Vision from it and use it to tacker him."
"I'll call Bucky, get him to bring us one," Steve replied. He and Thor looked at one another, silently communicating; they didn't want to get civilians involved since they could get hurt or in trouble, but what other options do they have? After a moment, they nodded at one another before turning to Scott.
"Alright, if you're going to help, you need to know a couple of things," Steve said, "We will be breaking the law. If caught, you will get in serious trouble."
"Wouldn't be the first time," Dave said.
"It will be dangerous," Thor replied, "Your very lives can be at risk."
"Um, we were going to be sitting in a van," Dave said, "Scott's the one doing the break-in and all that."
"Yeah, man, Scotty is the Superhero," Luis replied. "He's Ant-Man."
"We understand the risk." Scott replied, "And as they said, I'll be the one doing the um..superhero type stuff."
"We accept that," Thor said. "Still might be a bit risky."
"Okay, now all we need is to find out where Vision is and form a plan," Steve said.
"I know two more people that might be willing to help," Scott spoke up. "If you want to bring more people into it."
"Can you trust them?" Sam asked, "We don't need someone running and telling anyone what we are planning."
"Yeah, I trust them," Scott replied. "You guys can come with me to see them if you want."
An hour later, Thor, Steve, and Sam found themselves in the home of a guy named Hank Pym and his daughter, Hope van Dyne; she stood there with her arms crossed, glaring at them, as Hank paced around a little, looking as if he was thinking.
"Let me get this straight," Hank said as he stopped pacing and turned to Scott, "You brought three Avengers into my home, asking me for help in stealing a very dangerous and brilliant android with a magical earth-ending rock in its forehead from Tony Stark? Is that what you're asking me to do, Scott?"
"Well, yeah." Scott shrugged.
Hank turned to Steve. "You knew Howard Stark."
"Yeah, Howard and I worked together back in the day," Steve replied.
"I once worked for SHEILD," Hank said, "I was the first Ant-Man, I quiet after a while, I still helped them out a little, that stopped once I discovered that they were trying to copy my technology, Howard Stark, being the one behind it because you see that's all a Stark is good for, stealing other people's ideas and taking credit for it."
"I'm sorry to hear that," Steve replied respectfully.
"Yeah, well, " Hank said dismissively, "Who made the android, designed it, and built it?"
"Ultron had him built with robotic parts he stole from Tony," Steve answered.
"Okay, but who put the parts together, programmed it, but the magic pet rock in its forehead?" Hank demanded.
"Enid did," Thor spoke up, "She was under the mind stone's control, but she built Vision, programed him, then embedded the stone in his forehead, and later I brought Vision to life with my lightning, though Tony Stark and Bruce Banner did help with that part."
"Enid Bard? I've heard of her, refuses to work with SHEILD, doesn't get along with Tony Stark," Hank said, "A smart woman."
"She is," Thor said, pride clearly in his voice.
"So," Hank said, "What you want is our help to steal back something Tony Stark stole that Enid Bard created?"
"Yes," Scott said before Thor could answer, "That's what they want."
"And her name is Enid Odinson now," Thor said. "We recently got married."
"Okay," Hank and Hope looked at one another then, Hope turned back to them.
"Give my father and me a few days to talk things over, and we'll get back to you," Hope replied.
"That's fair," Steve said, shortly after he, Sam, and Thor headed to their car while Scott stayed behind.
It took Hank Pym even longer than Scott Lang to get back to them, around two weeks, Thor and the others plus Bucky, who had joined them days ago to bring them one of Vision's robots, where all are hanging out in Thor's hotel room, while Kurt had the little robot hooked to his laptop, trying to hack into its programming so he could use it to track Vision; Tempest was sitting on the end table by the bed, hissing at anyone that wasn't Thor or Bucky when there was a knock on the door; Thor opened it, and Hope van Dyne walked into the room and looked at Scott.
"Alright, we'll help," Hope told Scott, "All of you are to come by the house no later than noon tomorrow to talk things over." She then left without saying another word, and they all got back to planning.
"Did you say, Hank Pym?" Enid demanded later that night when Thor called her.
"Yeah, have you heard of him?" Thor asked.
"Of course, I have," Enid answered, "Hank Pym, the most intelligent Midgardain I ever heard of, he's genius. His inventions and technology are not like any others; the man is a complete legend."
"I take it you're a fan," Thor replied, laughing at Enid's excitement; he would have to see if Hank would be willing to meet Enid; she would probably like that.
"Yeah, I guess you can say that," Enid replied, laughing a little, but to Thor, she sounded upset; she claimed to be tired; and they talked a little more before hanging up, leaving Thor feeling guilty for being apart from her when they'd just gotten back from their honeymoon; he'd have to make it up to her somehow, maybe buy her a gift of some kind to take home.
When Thor and the others went to see Hank the next day, he agreed to help and would be in charge of their operation; he then told them to leave and come back when they had a location where Vision was; two days later, Kurt was able to track where Vision was being held, which was Avengers Headquarters, which was different from Avengers Tower, Tony had turned an old warehouse Stark had a redo and made their headquarters, he was planning to switch Avengers tower back to Stark Towers, wanting to separate his superhero life from his everyday life, which was okay with Thor, the new headquarters was just outside the city, and not close to any other buildings or other people, making it easier to break-in without being seen, and meant they'd be less innocent bystanders around that might get hurt.
"It won't be easy to break into the building." Hank was saying, "But if we come up with a good plan, it should be possible, and thanks to us breaking in once before, we know the layout of the building and have this map here." He was currently going on a map of the inside of the building; how they had it, Thor didn't ask and didn't care; to be honest, it was a good thing they did. "Scott and Hope can sneak in and get Vision."
"Why Scott and Hope?" Sam asked.
"Because with their suits, they can go in unseen," Hank answered. "Anyway, even though they will be unseen, it doesn't mean they won't trip the alarm; we need a distraction. So, a couple more of you will have to get noticed to keep anyone from realizing Scott and Hope are in there. Make them think you set off the alarm."
"What about a storm?" Thor asked, "I can knock out power to the building."
"That does sound like a good idea, but the building will most likely have a backup generator," Hope replied.
"Is there any way of turning that off or disconnecting it before Thor causes a power outage?" Steve asked.
"For that, you would have to know where the generated was," Hank replied, "Which is usually in the basement of the building."
"I still can't believe I've been in that building lately and never knew Vision was there," Sam said.
"Well, to be fair, it is a big building," Scott added.
"You've been there?" Thor asked.
"I have a few times before Tony, and I had that fallen out," Steve answered, "It is a big building with a good security system but just a few guards; I guess Tony doesn't think they're needed."
"I already broke in there once." Scott said, "I should be able to do it again."
"They probably tightened security since then." Hank said, "But we should be able to do it if we plan this right and carefully."
"We might be able to use Thor's storm idea," Steve said, "If there was a way to make sure the lights stayed out."
"I have a question?" Luis said, "Let's say you make it in and get Vision; how will you make it out without anyone seeing him?"
"Too bad we do not have Loki's jacket. We could give it to Vision, and he could turn invisible." Thor replied.
"For real?" Luis asked. "Loki has an invisibility jacket, dang man, that is stupid cool, just like Harry Potter."
"Harry, who?" Thor asked.
"It's a fictional character," Sam explained, "From a kid's book."
"Change of plan," Hank said, "I just thought of a better one."
"Okay, what is it?" Hope asked.
"You and Scott will no longer be going to get Vision." Hank explained, " Your job will be disabling the generator; Thor, we'll go with your power outage idea; you need to cause one hell of a storm, so when the lights go out and don't come back on, that should disable the security system, a couple of you go for Vision, with the power out, and not coming back on they should be a little chaos, and you should go unseen."
"Only one person needs to get Vision." Steve said, "They will need to be fast, though, can get in and out quickly."
"Fast," Thor mumbled, "How about so fast he can't be seen?"
"No, Thor, if you think what I'm thinking, that's a bad idea," Steve said. "We can't trust him; we don't even know if he'd help anyway."
"Enid is helping his father; the least he can do is help us," Thor replied, "I'll bring up asking him when I call her tonight."
"Who are you guys talking about?" Sam asked.
"Pietro Maximoff," Thor answered, "Magneto's son, he can run fast."
"You mean that mutant that's been calling himself Quicksilver?" Sam demanded.
"What about shrinking, Vision?" Scott asked, "Whoever goes to get him can take one of those disks, shrink him, and put him in his pocket."
"I thought of that." Hank replied, "I don't think it will work."
"Because of the stone?" Hope asked.
"Yeah, if what they say about it is true, I doubt it would shrink," Hank replied, "Still might be able to shrink Vision, but doing so could pop the stone out of his head."
"Most likely kill him," Steve said, "He can't leave without the ut stone in his head."
"So, back to sneaking him out," Sam said.
"I'll get Enid to ask Magneto if Pietro can help." Thor said, "Offer to pay him if I have to."
"What about the ones sneaking in, knowing where to go, or knowing if someone is heading towards them, we need a way to warn them," Dave said.
"I have away." Hank said, "I'll have some of my spies go in." He pointed to a table where many ants were crawling, "The three wombats and I will be parked around the block in the van and keep watch, talking to you guys through earpieces."
"You mean the ants? " Bucky asked, he has been keeping quiet when they had shown up; Hank seemed very curious about Bucky's missing arm and asked all kinds of questions afterward, he went silent and been listening whether than talking, Thor figured it was an uncomfortable topic for him; who wants to talk about your arm getting stolen with someone you don't know.
"Yes, they can do it," Hank replied, "Don't worry about it."
"That is nasty." Sam leaned in and whispered loudly to Steve, looking towards the ants, so he missed the glare Hank gave him.
"What if Maximoff won't help?" Sam asked, "We can't force him."
"If he won't, I'll go in and get Vision," Steve said, "Only thing changes is I won't be fast like him, though I won't be easy to stop either."
"Well, I guess we have a plan," Scott said.
"More like the idea of one," Hope replied.
So, over the next few days, they planned and worked out what they were going to do; at one point, Hank disappeared on them, and Hope said he was working on something since he wasn't going to be involved in the actual theft of Vision, they didn't say anything about it. They got back to planning; Thor found it hard to focus because he was growing more worried over Enid; she wasn't acting herself, and when Thor offered to come home now, she denied him; Thor wondered if he was right, that Enid being upset about him being gone or if it was something else, Loki said Saphira had noticed Enid wasn't acting herself, also; he then told Thor he needed to get his ass home and see what was wrong with his wife because it was getting harder for him to stop Saphira from going to Midgard to see what was wrong with her herself, and said Saphira warns if it is anything, Thor did he would be answering to her.
Unfortunately, Thor was gone a little over the month he had said. It would take a couple more days to get back to Enid because they all decided instead of flying back to New York, that all of them but Hope, Hank, and Scott would pile in the ugly brown van and drive to New York, with the other three following behind them in a truck with a lot of equipment they'll need, it would be quicker to fly, but most of their stuff probably wouldn't be allowed. Hank didn't trust his equipment on a plan anyway, so Thor was in for a long ride. At least Tempest would be next to him now and not in a carrier where the luggage goes, like when they flew to San Francisco.
When Thor had told Enid the news, she said it was okay; she understood and was just glad he'd be on his way home; she sounded close to tears, and the day before they were to start their road trip home, Thor bought Enid a white teddy bear, that was holding a red heart that reads "I Heart My Wife." Yeah, it was a little corny, but Thor was sure that's why Enid would like it and hoped it put a smile on her face.
The day they headed out, Thor had gotten this bad feeling something was going to happen, what he couldn't put his finger on it, but something told him it had nothing to do with breaking into Avengers Headquarters and stealing Vision back.
AN yeah, Enid is keeping most of what's happening from Thor. I hope you enjoyed the chapter. I don't have anything else to put.
