Chapter 77: Revenge
"We've been hunting Thanos for five days now through face scans and satellites; so far, we've got nothing." Enid was explaining to Loki while Thor sat on the other side of the table that was under the computer screens; he had his arms crossed, listening, not in the mood to get involved with the conversation as Enid was explaining all about their battle in Wakanda, Thanos winning. What they have been doing to try and find him, the screens on top showed faces of those they knew were gone, the ones under those were showing a map of the universe. About two hours ago, Loki, Kurt, Mantis, Nebula, and Tony Stark showed up on the ship that belonged to the Guardians of the Galaxy; they told their story about what happened on Titan first, and now Enid was telling their story.
"My father isn't stupid, of course; he'd stay away from anything that would get him caught." Nebula said.
"Yeah, and unfortunately, it's making him impossible to find," Sam replied; besides him, Thor and Enid, the others that were here when Loki and the others arrived, were Rockett and Natasha Romanoff.
"We eliminated some places." Enid replied, "We doubt he's still on earth, and Titan is out, and this side of the galaxy, we believe he's somewhere over there; two days ago, there was a surge in energy in the area for a moment; we are sure he used the stones again."
"But for what?" Mantis asked, "He already did what he wanted."
"We don't know," Enid replied, "But it narrows it down."
"Is that even doing much good, though?" Stark asked, "You still can't find him."
"Unfortunately, it's still been impossible to find him." Enid said, "Damn it; I want to kill the bastard."
"You'll have to get in line," Loki replied, Watching Rogue's face pop up on the screen with the other dusted victims; he wasn't saying much and had cried a little at the news of Rogue's fate, then immediately asked if Remy was okay; Enid explained that he left a couple of days ago heading to New Orleans to check on his family there and after Mystique called Kurt and learned she still had two sons, she went back to Alfheim to check on Frigga and Fenrir, going the same way Mystique, Rogue. Remy had arrived in Wakanda using some device the light elves had invented to travel through the nine realms, and fifteen minutes after she left, she called with the news Frigga and Fenrir was alive. But Astra, Vera, and all but one of Enid's uncles got dusted, along with half the elves and Asgardians, including The Warriors Three, but fortunately, Lady Sif was fine.
"Tony, you fought Thanos..." Enid tried to ask.
"What are you talking about? I didn't fight him. No, he wiped my face with a planet while the wizard gave away the stone. That's what happened; there's no fight." Stark snapped; Thor frowned, not liking how he was talking to Enid.
"Okay, did he give you any clues, any coordinates?" Enid asked, looking up as Bruce Banner's face popped up on the screen; Nick Fury popped upright after, then Jean Grey, then Jane Foster, then Eric Selvig.
"I saw this coming a few years back, I had a vision, but I didn't want to believe it. Now it's true." Stark said, watched James Rhodes's picture pop up then disappear, be followed by T'Challa.
"Tony, I'm going to need you to focus..." Enid tried; the picture on the screen was now Groot, then Maria Hill.
"I needed you, all of you, as in past tense. That trumps what you need. It's too late, Cinderella. Sorry, the dance is over. Do you know what I need?"
"Tony, come on, man, no need." Sam tried, but Stark had stood and was walking around the room.
"What we needed was a suit of armor around the world! Remember that? Whether it impacted our precious freedoms or not, that's what we needed!" Tony continued.
"Well, that didn't work out, did it?" Enid demanded.
"I said we'd lose. Guess what, Queenie? We lost, and you weren't there. But that's what we do. Our best work after the fact? Are we the Avengers? Oh no, wait, you're not an Avenger, that's right, you never were, isn't that what you've always said, always too good to join the team?" Stark demanded.
"That's enough," Thor demanded; he pointed at Stark, "You watch how you speak to her."
"See, this is what you are?" Tony said, "You're the wife who hides behind her big wall of a husband when things don't go her way; you run to your hammer-wielding God of thunder."
"I don't run or hide from anyone," Enid argued; she snatched Mijonir off the table and showed it to Stark; Thor saw Loki's eyebrows go up, looking at the hammer in her hand. "I didn't run and hide in New York while you got abducted; I didn't run and hide when I used this to kill Cull Obsidian; I didn't hide when fighting in Wakanda, and I sure didn't hide when I was bashing Thanos face in with my hammer." She slammed it back on the table and turned from Stark, causing a piece of the table to break off; Thor watched as Enid's eyes looked his way, and he gave her a wink.
"Okay, you both made your points; just calm down," Kurt said, trying to stop a fight from breaking out.
"No, no, here's my biggest point," Stark argued; he paused, then "I got nothin' for you, I've got no coordinates, no clues, no strategies, no glass slipper, no options! Zero, zip, nada. The only thing I have is I was right. I was right; that's it."
"That might be, but I was right, too; I told you what would happen if you alienated everyone with the power to help stop Thanos, and now look," Thor said, "Everyone is gone."
"Yeah, well, maybe they'd all still be here if you'd gone for the head." Stark snapped; Thor frowned at him; throwing that up hurt him.
"You're one to talk, Stark," Loki said, glaring at him, "I did not see you go for his head on Titan."
"Oh, so this is all my fault now, is it?" Stark demanded, "Weren't you the one who worked for him? Attacked my planet for him? You knew of his plan all these years; why didn't you stop him? You had some of the stones when he had none? You could have killed him."
"I would have had his arm chopped off if you could have just held him still." Loki replied, "You could not even do that."
"You're one to talk; you couldn't even save your wife," Stark said. The whole room went silent at those words as Loki stared at him, then suddenly dodged for him. Fortunately, Thor jumped up and grabbed Loki in time to stop him from jumping over the table and attacking Stark.
"Let go of me, Thor," Loki demanded.
"Brother, he's not worth it," Thor told him.
Loki jerked free of Thor and turned away from them, paused long enough to put his fist through a screen on the wall, then he left the room; they could hear him breaking things as he walked down the hall, then Loki started shouting and yelling which caused then all to jump, startled.
"I'll go calm him," Kurt said, rushing out of the room; Thor had to stop himself from telling Kurt to be careful. When they heard another crash of something, Mantis ran off to help Kurt.
"I don't like Loki either," Sam said, "But man, that was just cold."
"I know, I know," Stark said, "It just came out; I didn't mean it; I'm sorry." he looked at Enid. "I'm sorry."
"Next time you want to hurt Loki, do it without bringing my sister into it," Enid said, then walked around the table and sat by Thor; a few minutes later, Kurt and Mantis reappeared and said Loki asked for some time to himself, and they walked on in the room and found chairs to set in, the conversation about Thanos seemed to have ended now, and Thor reached down and scratched between Tempest's horns, Thor had been surprised to find her with Loki and the others when they arrived, it had taken them a little longer to return to earth because Loki had insisted on going by his ship and retrieving Saphira's body, only to find it gone; it was like it mysteriously vanished, which is why Loki was even more touchy about Saphira right now; he had hoped to be able to give his wife a proper funeral, now he couldn't even do that, they did, however, bring Heimdall's body with them so that he could have one, it currently laid in a big freezer in the basement of the building until they could give him one. Anyway, when they were on searching the ship for Saphira's body, they discovered Tempest, who had somehow not only survived being thrown out in space but also somehow found her way back on the craft.
"I'm going to check on Loki," Enid said; she stood and headed towards the doorway, only for Loki to reappear with a wet face, watery eyes, and a dagger in his hands; he looked right in Enid's eyes raised the blade then flipped it over and held the handle out to her, confused Enid took it.
"Go on, do it," Loki said; he held his arms out and poofed out his chest, then closed his eyes; Enid looked even more confused, "Go on, I did promise."
"Promised?" Enid asked, then her eyes grew wide, and she dropped the dagger and walked over to the other side of the room. "I'm not killing you, Loki."
"Please," Loki replied, dropping his arms, "Please, I can't live without her. I just can't."
"Saphira wouldn't want that," Enid replied, "And I can't do that to Fenrir; he lost his mother, and on his birthdays, I can't take his father from him; think of your son; he needs you."
"I love my son more than anything but the pain I feel," Loki said. Enid stepped forward and put her hand on Loki's shoulder.
"I know you're hurting; I am too, but Fenrir needs his father now more than ever," Enid replied.
"What will we do without her?" Loki asked.
"I don't know," Enid replied; this time, Loki stepped forward and pulled Enid into a hug, and they both cried; Thor glared over at Stark, who at least looked ashamed of what he had said, then walked over and put an arm around each, and held on to them.
"Alright, I'll think of Fenrir," Loki said after a moment. "I'll think only of him."
After a moment, Loki pulled himself away from Thor, and Enid then strengthened up his shirt, used magic to dry and clean his face, ran his hand through his hair, and looked at everyone.
"So, we were talking about?" Loki demanded as Thor sat back down.
"Thanos," Romanoff said, "Did what he said he would do. He wiped out 50% of all living creatures."
"Mystique said Gambit's cat Lucifer was dusted, but Oliver is fine, so are Mischief and Rosey." Thor put in.
"Rosey?" Loki demanded, "I thought we had accidentally left them on Asgard."
"Frigga found them on their ship," Enid replied.
"How did...Saphira." Loki whispered, looking away.
"I'm sure she knew Thanos was going to attack," Enid replied, "Steve got a message from her warning of the attack, and she sent Bucky money to buy Fenrir a birthday gift from her."
"Bucky?" Loki asked, looking around, "Did he..?"
"No," Enid answered, "He left not long after we returned from Wakanda, right after the snap."
"He left the birthday gift here, though," Sam said, "Have them in a room down the hall."
"Them?" Loki demanded.
"Wolf cubs, two of them; Saphira told Bucky to buy one, but he bought two," Enid explained. "They are in an empty room with beds, have food, and I've been cleaning up after them; Thor insisted we let you decide what to do with them." Loki looked at Thor and gave him a slight smile, then turned to Enid.
"I will take them home when I go." Loki replied, "Saphira bought them for our son; they belong to him, though I have no idea where the home will be."
A bright yellow light shined in their eyes, coming from the window, and when it disappeared, a blond-haired woman was standing there, looking in at them, then she opened the door and walked in.
"Where is Nick Fury?" She demanded.
"Dust," Loki replied, not caring to break the news to her gently.
"What happened?" She demanded. Romanoff explained all about Thanos and the infinity stones and their fight and then losing; the blonde then introduced herself as Carol Danvers, then asked where the infinity stones are now.
"Thanos still has them." Rocket answered.
"So, let's get them and use the stones to bring everyone back," Carol replied.
"Just like that?" Sam demanded.
"Yeah, just like that," Stark said, liking the idea.
"Even if there's a small chance that we can undo this, I mean, we owe it to everyone who is not in this room to try," Romanoff said.
"If we do this, how do we know it will end differently than before?" Kurt demanded.
"Because before, you didn't have me," Carol said.
"Hey, new girl? Everybody in this room is about that superhero life." Sam said.
"I'm not," Loki replied, "I couldn't care less about saving people I don't know."
"Well, I do," Carol said, "And I want to go beat Thanos and get the stones and bring everyone back. Do you have a problem with that?"
"I genuinely do not care what you do," Loki replied.
"Good, I will go get the stones from Thanos; anyone who wants to help is welcome to come." Thor stood up, walked over, and stood in front of Carol; he then called Stormbreaker to his hand, sat it in front of him, and put his hands on the blade.
"I like this one," Thor replied; Enid narrowed her eyes, walked over, grabbed Thor's arm, pulled him back, and got in front of him, surprising and confusing him.
"if you don't mind my asking, where have you been all this time?" Enid demanded, putting her hands on her hips.
"There are a lot of other planets in the universe, and, unfortunately, they didn't have you guys," Carol said.
"Don't sound like they had you either." Enid replied, "Where have you been all these years? Where were you when Thanos went from planet to planet, killing half of everyone? Why haven't you done anything about him until now?"
"Enid," Thor said, "Stop," he put his arm around her and led her away from Carol. Enid pulled away and walked off; Thor frowned. Was she mad at him for some reason? He looked towards Loki to see him looking amused; when Loki looked towards him, he stepped closer and said.
"I did not know Enid had a jealous side," Loki replied. Thor didn't think that was it; Enid never got jealous of another woman talking to him.
"Are we going to do this or not?" Stark demanded.
"I say we go get this son of a bitch." Rocket said.
"Oh, yes, good idea; let me know if you find him," Loki replied. Oh yeah, that's right, none of them had any idea where Thanos was.
"I might know." Nebula said, "Thanos spent a long time trying to perfect me. When he worked, he talked about his great plan. He even disassembled I wanted to please him. I'd ask where we would go once this plan was complete? His answer was always the same to the garden."
"That's cute. Thanos has a retirement plan." Sam said.
"That bastard does not deserve a garden." Loki snarled; everyone but those close to Loki gave him a weird look, not understanding why Thanos owning a garden would upset him. "Well, what are you waiting for? Let's go."
"I thought you weren't a superhero?" Sam demanded.
"I am not," Loki replied, "You guys can get the stones if you want; I'm going so I can kill him."
When they made it to Thanos's garden, Stark shot a laser at him; then Carol flew in and grabbed him in a headlock; Nebula, Enid, and Sam held one side, while Kurt and Thor grabbed the arm with the gauntlet, while Loki chapped off that arm with his scepter, Thanos cried out in pain, as Rocket bent down and turned the gauntlet over.
"Oh, no." Rocket said, "Loki, the stones aren't here."
"Where are they?" Loki demanded, putting his secpter to Thanos's throat.
"Answer the question," Carol demanded.
" The universe required correction. After that, the stones served no purpose beyond temptation." Thanos explained.
"What did you do?" Enid demanded, walking around to Thanos' front, gripping Mjolnir in her hand.
"You should be grateful," Thanos said.
"Where are the Stones?" Thor demanded.
"Gone. Reduced to atoms." Thanos replied; Loki dropped his scepter and stepped back.
"That's not possible." Loki said, "Nothing can destroy an infinity stone."
"Unless it's another infinity stone." Thanos replied, "I used the Stones to destroy the Stones. It nearly killed me, but the work is done. It always will be. I am inevitable."
"We have to tear this place apart. Thanos has to be lying." Kurt said.
"My father is many things. A liar is not one of them." Nebula said.
"Ah. Thank you, daughter. Perhaps I treated you too harshly." Thanos said.
"Oh, shut up." Loki snapped, "I'm sick of hearing your voice."
"Ah, yes, you're still upset over your wife," Thanos said, "I don't blame you; she was such a beautiful and powerful being; but unfortunately, her death was..."
Loki heard enough; he brought his scepter down and sliced off Thanos's head, then made it disappear before walking off without a word to anyone.
"What did he do?" Rocket asked.
"My brother went for the head," Thor said.
AN: Next chapter will be a big time jump, and as you see, since I changed it a bit on who got dusted, some of the time heists will be different also.
