Title: With Devils

Summary: The times and trials of a human bonded to a vampire.

Notes: Its been forever since I have worked on this but I have edited it a little so there are small style changes. Of course, Kristopher and Nickolas belong to Amelia Atwater Rhodes. Be warned that this isn't a fluffy romp featuring some hot guys (the guys are hot but still), there will be disturbing violence and sexual situations. This isn't your Grandmother's AAR fanfiction, baby.

Fourth chapter

Lucy's heart was beating so and she couldn't help but notice that every so often, the boys would stare at the pulse in her neck with longing. Kristopher was the one to escort her and his arm underneath her hand was comforting. Nikolas walked on the other side of Kristopher, his face was jolly as much as Kristopher looked fierce. It was strange to be around so many vampires. Just the front steps were crowded with vampires; laughing, talking, or walking around in all of their splendid finery. The back of Lucy's mind was screaming for her to run for there were predators about. Thankful of the white gloves covering her arms to the elbow for she was clutching Kristopher's arm so that she feared that her knuckles would be white. She schooled her features to show none of her fear. Kristopher patted her on the hand and smiled at her. They were about to go into the ballroom.

Marble floors, high white ceilings, and rosy hued frescos made Lucy's eyes glitter as she stepped on to the threshold of the ballroom. It was like a ballroom of every little girl's dream where she imagined that a prince would whisk her away too. Kristopher leaned over to her and she felt his cold breath on her cheek.

"You look divine and remember that we chose you because of your beauty and spirit. They will try to brow beat you but stay respectful yet proud." Kristopher murmured as he pulled the mauve shawl from her shoulders. He handed it to Nikolas who gave it over to a servant. Their marks on her arms were still red and tender. They almost matched the bodice on her soft pink dress.

Kristopher and Nikolas's name were called and they all stepped forward and down the wide stairs. The vampires watched them with slight applause. Lucy kept her chin high and her eyes above all the vampire's heads. When they reached the floor, Kristopher wrapped an arm around her waist and smirked to Nikolas. It was as if that was a cue for Nikolas began to greet certain vampires. Lucy had no time to watch Nikolas share vampiric pleasantries as Kristopher lead her away and to a tall, tanned man with black hair that was long and beautiful enough for a woman. His cold, black eyes bored into her own.

"Jaguar, my old compatriot. How does the world rate to Midnight? Where is the rest of that motley crew?" Kristopher asked jovially but Lucy could feel tension in his fingers on her hip.

"Mmmm," Jaguar said as he looked at Lucy in a most shocking manner but she felt proud of how she didn't lower her eyes or turn away but just let her face grow icy from disapproval. Kristopher's fingers dug into her flesh. Lucy bit the inside of her under lip to stop from crying out. She would make him kiss the bruise that he was making later. "Midnight has comforts that the world can create but I see that you have brought your comfort with you. I admire your good taste. The others are around enjoying the party. You must let yourself enjoy things, old man." Jaguar smiled and slapped Kristopher on the back. Lucy looked at Kristopher, pleading with her eyes. He was really beginning to hurt her. His face was calm and his muscles were relaxed but his fingers were still… Flashing her a smile, he straightened out his fingers.

"Jaguar, is Jeshickah here? I'd just love to see her or Garbriel. They always tend to be the leaders of such fun at Midnight." Kristopher took up one of Lucy's hands with his free one and kissed her fingers lightly as he watched Jaguar.

Lucy felt rather than heard Nikolas walk toward them. He was on Jaguar and Kristopher's other side and he put a hand on both of their shoulders. Lucy smiled at him in relief. The tension between the two vampires was palpable and she didn't want to be in the middle of their fight.

"Jaguar! You leave the fair walls of Midnight? I see that you have met my brother again. Now, I need some advice on a sensitive matter concerning ladies…" Nikolas said winking at Lucy as he put a arm around Jaguar's neck and lead him away from Kristopher and Lucy.

Kristopher turned to face Lucy and ran his knuckles down her cheek as her murmured, "Sorry to have frightened you but this night is far from over my darling."
