Title: on deck
Summary: She was a janitor long before Polaris walked her through the FBC's extra-dimensional lockdown. A strange gun, Emily Pope and a bunch of paramilitary rangers calling her Director doesn't change that.
Written for the fan_flashworks borrowed title challenge an amnesty round ago. An amnesty round I forgot to crosspost once it closed, so here we are.
A thing I love is the way Jesse is always like '... right.' when people address her as the Director. Big mood.
Jesse wonders what the Rangers think of their new Director running around doing maintenance. She still hasn't resigned herself to it - is finding her brother and getting out - but with the Service Weapon bound to her (or Jesse to it, their introduction had been ... odd) she can help out with the FBC's Hiss infection whenever she comes across it. Ranger numbers stay more or less constant, and they're spreading out to hold Maintenance.
Beating heart of the place, after all. Or, well. The human part of it.
She doesn't overly care about their opinions, though. Part time janitors assistant is a good enough role for her. Done better by overlooked shift workers than any upper management types ever have.
Plus, she can fly now. That's job security in itself. Gutter work, if nothing else. She could make a killing around Christmas, and in July, and whenever else bunting has to get from storage to the heights. Provided the lift reappears.
