I do not own Glee or any of the characters created by Ryan Murphy. If I did we would see way more of Shelby. This story will contain spanking of a teenager. If that's not your thing stop reading now and go read something else.

"You have got to be kidding me!" Rachel knocked her pen off the kitchen table and crossed her arms over her chest when Shelby handed her the apology letter back.

"I am not kidding, Rachel. I told you that you would write this letter until I was satisfied with it. So far you have given me nothing but a backwards apology that still manages to insult Mrs. Smith. You will sit here until you do it properly."

"Come on, Mama. I've already finished detention with her. Why do I have to do this?"

"I told Mrs. Smith that you would apologize to her, Rachel. I don't care that your week of detentions is over. That verbal apology you made is not enough. Now I would suggest that you do as you are told or you will be spending every free minute this weekend working on that letter in between your other homework."

"What about our extra glee club rehearsal tomorrow?" Rachel asked in a panic.

"You will not be going to that unless this letter is done." Shelby leaned back on the counter and watched as her daughter glared at her. "I know you are not happy with this, Rachel. But it's called being held accountable for your actions. I am going to finish dinner, you need to get to work."

Growling Rachel picked up her pen from the floor and looked at the letter in front of her. Sighing in frustration she turned to a blank page in her notebook and began to write as her mother put the finishing touches on their dinner.

Rachel had finally finished the apology letter, again. She had had to take a break for dinner and was then given directions to work on it before bed. Watching as her mother sat across the table from her reading it she hoped that it was good enough to pass the Shelby Corcoran judgment.

Not able to take the silence any longer Rachel sighed when her mother put the notebook down in front of her, "Well? Is it acceptable?"

Seeing her mother's raised eyebrow Rachel became quiet again not wanting to jeopardize being grounded from glee the next day. "Mama?" Rachel had improved her tone and let out a deep breath when her mother's eyebrow lowered.

"You will turn that into Mrs. Smith on Monday, Rachel. You will not accompany it with any snide comments or body language that conveys your displeasure.

"Rachel, do you understand me?" Shelby demanded.

"Yes Mama. I'll turn it in and despite how I feel I'll give her my best show face."

***GLEE****GLEE****GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***

"But why can't I go? Santana, Mercedes, and Puck are all going." Rachel was currently toe to toe with her mother wondering why the woman never let her do anything.

"Because my fourteen year old daughter is not going to a Lady Gaga concert almost two hours away alone, Rachel. If you can get a parent to go with you then I will consider it."

"Why can't you go with us?" Rachel whined.

"Rachel you know that V.A. has a competition this weekend. I'm sorry, sweetie, but I can't do it this time."

"This isn't fair. I still don't see why I can't go. I mean Puck's older brother and best friend are going. They're seventeen."

"No Rachel." Shelby's voice and stance were firm and Rachel's face fell.

"It's not fair!" she yelled. "My dads are gone, one is probably dying, and you won't even let me go to a concert." Running from the living room Rachel ran up the steps to her room being sure to slam the door after entering.

Pacing for a few moments Rachel finally made a call on her phone. "Kurt, is your dad letting you go? Damn. Yeah, I'm in. No, I'm going to have to go with the sleepover angle the same way you are. Yeah, don't worry and tell everyone I have the transportation covered. No, I don't think she believed me about Puck's older brother at all. Okay, I'll see you tomorrow at school. Bye Kurt."

Ending the call Rachel threw herself on her bed and hugged her stuffed rabbit close. Her dads still hadn't come clean about LeRoy's true condition and if not for all the secret phone calls she was making from Sue Sylvester's office Rachel wouldn't know anything that was going on at the hospital.

She knew that her mother was having the same problems getting the truth from her dads and that just made her more frustrated. All she wanted was one night to forget everything and her mother wouldn't even give her that. Resolved with what she was going to do Rachel decided she would take the night no matter what Shelby Corcoran said.

Hearing footsteps Rachel remained on her bed hugging her rabbit close. Her job now was to show her upset without doing anything to jeopardize her freedom on Friday night and Saturday. "Come in." She responded to the knock and stayed still when she felt her mother sit on the bed next to her.

"Rachel sit up please." Shelby's voice was gentle but firm and Rachel did as she was asked. "Rachel I'm sorry that I can't take you to the concert. I know it may seem like the end of the world right now, but there will be other concerts." Shelby brushed a piece of hair from Rachel's face.

"I know, Mama. It would just be nice to have a night off from thinking about everything." Rachel hugged her rabbit closer and sighed. "I'm sorry that I yelled and stormed out, Mama. I was really disappointed."

"I know, sweetie." Shelby smiled at her daughter. "And if V.A. didn't have a competition I would be more than happy to take you and your friends."

Rachel nodded and accepted Shelby's hug, "Mama, do you think it would be okay if I spent the night at Kurt's on Friday since I can't go to the concert?"

"He isn't going?"

"His dad agrees with you," Rachel admitted. "So, would that be okay? He and I can have a diva night Friday and go to the mall Saturday."

"If it's okay with Kurt's dad, I don't see the problem." Shelby smiled at Rachel. "I know it's not Lady Gaga but at least you aren't being forced to come to the competition with me."

"Thank God for small favors," Rachel teased.

"Watch it, young lady," Shelby teased back. "I know where you sleep at night."

Feeling just a little guilty Rachel hugged her mother again trying to let go the feelings of the lying she had just done and what she was about to do in two days' time.

***GLEE****GLEE****GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***

"You're sure Kurt's dad doesn't mind you sleeping over tonight and spending all day with Kurt tomorrow?" Shelby asked again.

"Mama, you talked to Mr. Hummel, you know he's fine with it. He's going to be working in the garage all day tomorrow so he thought it was great that Kurt would have company," Rachel answered with a smile.

"And you're sure you want to head to Kurt's after school today?" Shelby asked pouring the last of her coffee into her travel mug.

"I'm sure."

"Well then," Shelby put her mug down and moved to her daughter. "Give me a hug and grab your stuff so I can get you to school."

"Thanks Mama," Rachel gladly gave her mother a hug knowing that the next time she saw her Shelby would either be none the wiser to Rachel's antics or Rachel would be on death row Shelby Corcoran style.

***GLEE****GLEE****GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***

"Thanks again for dropping us off, Mr. Hummel." Rachel gave her best show smile. "Are you sure you don't mind if we spend the weekend over here instead?"

"Nah, I told you, Rachel this is fine with me. You and Kurt have fun doing whatever it is you're going to do. Just don't give your mom too hard a time," Burt Hummel teased.

"We won't, Dad." Kurt smiled at his dad. "Sorry that Ms. Corcoran couldn't call you herself."

"That's okay, I understand she's under lockdown with her show choir. I know you kids take all that seriously. Do you two need anything else?"

"Nope." Kurt smiled at his dad once more and closed the car door. Waving until the man was down the street and around the corner Rachel and Kurt then squealed in delight as the limo pulled in front of them.

The back door of the car swung open and Rachel and Kurt tossed their bags in before sliding in themselves. "About time, you two. I never thought Kurt's dad was going to leave."

"Relax Mercedes, it's not like we're going to be late." Rachel leaned back on the seat and looked at her watch. "We are right on schedule and will make it to our hotel room in time to change before eating and getting to the concert. Lady Gaga here we come!"

***GLEE****GLEE****GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***

Looking at her watch Shelby groaned. She had kept the Vocal Adrenaline students until ten o'clock that night and then spent an extra hour making sure everything would be perfect for their competition the next day.

Getting into her range rover she finally pulled her phone from her purse hoping she hadn't missed any calls from Rachel. Seeing that she had three messages Shelby put on her seatbelt being sure to lock the doors before pressing the play button and the speaker phone button.

"Yes, Shelby, this is Hiram. I was just calling to find out if you knew why Rachel had charged a hotel suite in Columbus for tonight and tomorrow to her emergency credit card. It seems as if she's rented a limo as well. LeRoy and I were just wondering if there was some type of competition that she might be going to solo."

"I am going to kill her," Shelby took a deep breath and pressed the second message.

"Hi Mama. I just wanted to call and say goodnight. Kurt and I are going to have a Barbra marathon so don't worry if you don't hear from me until tomorrow sometime. I love you."

Another breath followed as she pressed the third message, "Ms. Corcoran, this is Burt Hummel. I just wanted to let you know that I dropped the kids off at your house after school. Thanks for letting them stay there this weekend. I'm going to be in the garage all day Saturday and it's nice to know that they'll see you before and after your competition. Thanks again."

"Dead, she's dead." Shelby scrolled through her contacts and hit one. "Hiram, it's Shelby, we need to talk."

***GLEE****GLEE****GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***

"That was freaking amazing!" Mercedes said again. "I still can't believe that we saw Lady Gaga in concert."

"Yeah, who knew she really was that wild at her shows?" Puck grinned remembering one of the barely there costumes.

"Knock it off, Puckerman," Santana punched him in the arm. "Though, yeah, it was a nice costume."

Kurt and Rachel were surprisingly quiet and merely smiled at their friends' comments about the concert. Getting back to the hotel, they headed to the suite Rachel had reserved ready to order room service and have some more fun when all their plans were dashed.

"Sabe, Bubbe?" Rachel gulped and moved to hide behind Santana. "What are you doing here?"

"Come in, come in," Rachel's grandfather motioned to the large suite and pointed to the couch. "Now before we discuss things, let's make introductions first."

He waited until Rachel and her friends were seated on the couch before standing in front of it with his wife. "I am Theo Corcoran and this is my wife, Emily. We're Rachel's grandparents being as Shelby is our daughter."

"We're dead," Kurt moaned.

Hiding his smirk Theo Corcoran merely nodded, "Imagine our surprise when our daughter calls us at eleven-thirty tonight asking us to come down here and wait for you to get back from a concert that at least four of your didn't have permission to go to."

"My moms is going to kill me," Mercedes whispered.

"I may never see daylight again," Santana added. "Why did Britt have to be out of town this weekend? She can always stop me from doing stupid stuff."

Watching as the other boy leaned back on the couch Theo and Emily shook their heads. Shelby had told them that the one called Puck had been given permission for the concert. However, the other parents were on their way to pick up their offspring while Rachel would be riding back to Lima with her grandparents in the morning.

"Rachel, please introduce us to your friends," Emily encouraged.

"Um, this is Kurt, Santana, Mercedes, and Puck," Rachel managed to get out. "Everyone, these people are my grandparents."

"We're dead," Kurt muttered again.

"Kurt relax would ya? I mean what are they going to do?" Puck was a little too relaxed.

"Get a brain, Puckerman," Santana growled. "These people raised Ms. Corcoran. That means she learned from them and you know what that means."

Puck finally sat up and looked at everyone before looking back to the Corcorans. "Oh, we're dead."

"You aren't dead yet, young man. And I promise we are not going to kill you. However, we would like you to know that all of your parents, save Puck's, are heading here right now to pick you up. We offered to take you home but it seems as if they wanted to deal with you tonight. Puck, Mr. Hummel agreed to give you a ride back to Lima," Emily explained.

"Seeing as it's almost two a.m. now I would say that most of your parents will be here very soon. I would suggest you all get changed and have your things ready to go. I doubt if they'll want to linger." Theo added.

Scrambling to do as they were told the teens all bolted for the rooms their bags were stored in. Rachel was left alone on the couch and merely groaned when her grandparents flanked her. "Is Mama coming to get me?"

"Nope, we are taking you home tonight and then driving you back to Lima tomorrow." Emily hugged Rachel and gave her a kiss to her temple. "Not even Shelby managed to do something like this growing up."

Perking up slightly Rachel grinned, "Really? You mean I did something Mama never thought about doing?"

"Oh she thought about it, Rachel," Theo clarified. "But she never followed through."

The smile that was leveled at him wasn't the reaction Theo Corcoran had been expecting. "What are you so happy about, Rachel?"

"I just can't believe I managed to do something that Mama hasn't done before. If you'll excuse me I'm going to go change before all the parents get here." Jumping off the couch Rachel headed the same way Kurt had gone.

"You do realize that we may have stop Shelby from actually killing her?" Emily asked her husband.

Chuckling he nodded, "We could just remind her of the time she decided to take up smoking and almost burned the house down."

"True," that should calm her down just a bit." Emily chuckled as well before standing and answering the heavy knock at the door.

***GLEE****GLEE****GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***

"Rachel it's time to get up." Emily shook her granddaughter awake gently. "Come on, sweetie, your Sabe is making brunch before we head to Lima."

"Can't I sleep some more?" Rachel whined. She was so comfortable and the last thing she wanted to do was get out of bed.

"It's already ten, Rachel. You have thirty minutes to get up, shower and get downstairs." A swift swat to Rachel's bottom finally got her moving.

"Okay Bubbe," she yawned slowly sliding from the bed under her grandmother's watchful eye until she headed to the bathroom."

Dragging herself into the bathroom Rachel made quick work of a shower and getting dressed. Despite the fact that her mother would probably kill her when she got back to Lima, she had enjoyed the concert and had managed to have the time of her life. Not wanting to worry about the consequences of her actions, Rachel followed her nose to the kitchen and sat at the table next to her grandmother.

"Good morning, Rachel."

"Morning Sabe, it smells good in here," Rachel took a large drink of her juice. "What are you making?"

"Cheese omelets. I hope that's okay but Shelby told us that you eat dairy and eggs now." Placing the food on the table Rachel took in the scent.

"Oh those look and smell wonderful, Sabe. Yes, I do eat dairy and egg now. I decided that the vegan lifestyle wasn't giving me all I needed in order to keep my stamina as a singer."

Looking at each other her grandparents held their smiles. Their own daughter had told them something very similar when she had decided to stop being a vegan as well. "Eat up then," Theo finally spoke. "After we eat we'll head back to Lima."

"Okay."

"Rachel, don't take this the wrong way, but aren't you worried about seeing your mother today?" Emily asked noticing that Rachel seemed a little too relaxed.

Putting down her fork Rachel finally looked at her grandmother. "I am beyond terrified, Bubbe," she finally admitted. "However since there is nothing I can do right now I figured I'll pretend that everything is fine at least until Mama sees me." Rachel picked up her fork again. "When that happens don't be surprised if I try to hide behind one or both of you as well as trying to keep my backside safely away from her swatting hand."

Laughing heartily Theo looked at Rachel. "You are so much like Shelby, my dear. She and her sister managed to get into a few things, but it was always Shelby who seemed to be trying to stay away from our swatting hand."

Rachel nodded, "Yes, I heard that your hand was more than sufficient to get certain points across though Bubbe gave Mama the idea for the evil hairbrush."

This time it was Emily who laughed, "Oh Rachel you have no idea how often your mother had conversations with that hairbrush."

Eyes lighting up again Rachel looked back and forth between her grandparents, "We are going to have such a great time driving back to Lima. I can't wait to hear more about my family and more stories of Mama growing up."
